Luck Runs Out
There's a shovel in your hand. It's what you came here searching for, you're pretty sure, and turning it over in your hands, you have an idea. "Maybe we could dig out."

"We could-" Rikuto stops himself, for a moment, though it's too dark for you to see the look on his face. "...Right. That. Good idea." He sounds nervous, which is not a thing you expected from him at this point.

Really, if he was going to lose his nerve, he should have done it before you decided to risk picking a fight with Puppetmon and ended up setting his building on fire. Something tells you you're going to have to deal with the consequences of that at some point.

You've never claimed to be good at digging. And the walls aren't exactly made of the softest dirt around. Can you even break through it? Or is it too firm, while you're too weak?
But you're determined to get out, and so you take your shovel to the wet, salt-encrusted stone, before pausing. "...Do you want to be the one that digs?" You ask Rikuto. You'd extend a similar option to Biyomon, if she had a form with hands that wouldn't bring the long, dark tunnel down on top of you just from showing up.

For the longest time, he's completely silent. "...I think it's best that you dig," He finally says, and gives no explanation for why he thinks that.

That's fine. You don't need to know everything that he thinks. What's it even matter, anyway? The only thing he's got going for him is his own good fortune. Compared to most of your predecessors, he's basically a stick.
You press the shovel into the stone, thinking about how much you want to get out of here and go someplace safe, to get to Primary Village and provide food for the young Digimon, and part of the wall gives way, sending a shower of dirt and pebbles to the ground around you, and releasing a strong smell of dirt and salt into the air.

Your eyes sting a bit. Maybe you shouldn't have been doing this without goggles like Tai's or Daigo's. Maybe you shouldn't be doing this at all.

But it's the fastest way out, isn't it? So you screw your eyes shut, and take another swing at the ground you're trapped underneath.

And you dig, and you dig, moving upwards with your new tunnel, until the world starts shaking beneath you. "Wh-what's happening?" You call down. "An earthquake?"

"I hear water!" Biyomon reports to you. "I think the tunnel's flooding!"

"The tunnel-" Rikuto repeats, again stopping before he can finish his sentence. "...Sora, you need to dig faster."

"How?" There's enough ridges in the side of your tunnel to make good handholds, so your digging is more vertical than most people would expect. It's not easy. "I'm already going as fast as I can!" And the shaking earth doesn't exactly make your job easier. It just means that you're more likely to miss with your shovel.

But you attack the world above you with all the vigor you can muster, and suddenly, a small crack of sunlight appears in your vision, prompting you to quickly look down as another shower of dirt and pebbles falls, getting into your hair and letting actual fresh air come flooding in, hearing splashes as what falls past all of you hits water that wasn't there just five minutes ago.

Even looking down, the sunlight is almost blinding.

But Biyomon flies out ahead of you into the sun. "We're free!" She cheers, despite how you still have some distance to climb to pull yourself out. Below you, Rikuto has squeezed himself into the tunnel you've created as best he can, probably to get away from the swirling movement you can sort of register below.

But you can hear the water, and smell the salt, and you don't really like the way it moves below you. It doesn't catch the light the way it should, as if it were liquid shadow rather than water.

Maybe it is. There's very little in this world that would surprise you.

And besides, you're pretty sure that MetalSeadramon's stolen all of the world's actual water, anyway.

...So why is so much of it gathering below?
(Sora's Climbing total: 52 vs. DC 77 (Unstable ground))
You reach to try and climb higher, but the dirt keeps giving way beneath your fingers, slipping through and showering more dirt. "I-I can't get up!" Every bit of progress you make, you just slide back down again.

You can't see Rikuto, so focused you are on getting out, but you can hear him. "Sora... You know how Kaz'd kill me if anything happened to you?"

"...Rikuto?" Why's he saying this now, of all times?

"...I promise. It's going to be all right."
(52 + 64 (Rikuto assist) = 116 vs. DC 77 (Unstable ground))
And then, without any kind of warning, you're shoved upwards, onto the steady ground that had previously been above you. Biyomon gasps. "Rikuto!" She calls out.

You hear a splash.

When you turn around, the ground behind you is unmarked, as if nothing of the past few minutes had even happened.

There's a message on your Digivice.

I'm sorry. -Riku

You're not really sure what to do, now. You think you'd had a goal in mind, at some point, but... You're not sure what it was, anymore. "Biyomon? Do you remember what we were supposed to be doing?" You ask, still staring at the spot where Rikuto disappeared.

"...We were helping Elecmon," She replies. "But..."

But Puppetmon's probably looking for you, since you set his house on fire. But you've been underground for so long, you don't even know where you are in relation to them anymore.

But that was before you lost Rikuto.

Your shovel is still in your hand. If possible, you think it's even heavier, now.

[ ] ...You should try and find your way back to Elecmon. Just to make what happened worth something.

[ ] ...You should try and figure out what happened at Puppetmon's place. It'd be dangerous, but... You don't think it can be much worse than what just happened.

[ ] ...You should try and find your way to the other DigiDestined. This wouldn't have happened if there had been more more you.

[ ] ...You don't know what you should do, anymore.

Invisitext for the update, and... Man. Man.

Well. We need to do something.

I think going to Elecmon would just lead Puppetmon to him and the young Digimon, so we have to rule that out. And doing nothing is not, in fact, doing something.

So it's down to figuring out what happened or trying to find the other Digidestined.

I don't actually know which one to go with right now. Anyone else got an idea?

It's kind of hard to decide because all of the options show that Sora is pretty depressed right now. Maybe we should look for the other DigiDestined because that feels less immediately suicidal than going back to Puppetmon's place right after we set it on fire.

Yeah, good point.

Is it the safest choice? No. Is it the wisest choice? Probably not that either. But it's what I imagine Sora would do. I don't think Sora could forgive herself if she leaves and something horrible happens to Rikuto.

Going Off a Dot and a Prayer
...You have to find the other DigiDestined. You have to tell them what happened, you need to get them as backup, you need... You don't know. You just need to find them.

You click through the buttons on your Digivice, not really expecting to see anything. It's a big world out there, and even if they're around, the others could be anywhere on Spiral Mountain. Finding them could take... a very long time, if you manage it at all.

But on the very largest radar setting, you think you might see something, and even if that's not the case, even if you're just imagining it in your desperation to do something right... it's better than just sitting around here.

"...Come on, Biyomon." You stand up, turn in the direction you think you saw the dot in, and slide your Digivice back into your pocket. Your other hand tightly grips the shovel. "We're going this way."

She blinks at you. "I... don't think Elecmon's that way." Like she thinks you could ever show your face to Elecmon again, after what just happened. You were doing this for the sake of taking care of others, and yet... what you managed to do is make a friend vanish like he was never there in the first place.

"We're going this way." You set off into the forest, taking no heed of the complete lack of any sort of trail, and not bothering to look for the seams in the landscape. If Puppetmon wants to cause trouble for you... well, first he's got a fire to deal with. You've probably got a few more minutes before he starts searching.

So you walk, and you walk, paying no attention to your landscape, tripping over at least one tree root, and suddenly your Digivice beeps with a received message.

Sora, where are you? -Izzy

Oh. Now they care about being able to find you. You wonder if it's because they've only just gotten in a position where it's safe to look, or if Rikuto's message reminded them that they could at all. Assuming, of course, that he sent it to everyone, and not just you.

[ ] Your response (Limit 30 characters)

Oh, boy. I knew that Sora wasn't feeling good about herself, but now she's blaming the other DigiDestined as well.

"Near Puppetmon's Mansion" is my first response, and that's 24 characters if I'm counting correctly. Any ideas?

Okay so uh, first thing after we leave the digital world and enter the per-monthly-scheduling stuff, can we get therapy for Sora? I think she's gonna need it.

Message prepared, let's see how this turns out.

It should be fairly evident, at this point, that Sora was the only one trying to stick to the initial plan, because everyone else's circumstances required just a bit more creativity.

I'm Just Saying the First Thing You Learn Probably Isn't the Thing that Turns Everything to Pixelart
Well. Communication has been opened, no reason not to use it. You just have to use whatever you can to try and get across what you need to, and what you can use is a Digivice with a character limit that requires at least some knowledge of Digicode to communicate with.

Fortunately, you know Digicode. So that's one hurdle out of the way. You'll be able to send something, at least, even if it's not necessarily what you wanted.

Among other things, the Digicode for 'dot' is one of those things you have no idea of. You might be able to piece it together, if you took your time with it, but... if you let yourself stop moving for too long, you aren't sure when you'll start again.

If you'll start again.

You're just going to have to compromise.

At Puppetmon's. Heading 2 u.

...That should be enough. You hope so, at least. No one tries to contact you again, and you don't have the mental capacity to send them more, at the moment.

You wonder if you should look for dots on your screen again.

...You're still heading in the same direction. It should be fine.

It might not be fine, but that's probably because you've encountered the first large amount of water since you landed. "Why'd it have to start raining now?" Biyomon complains, landing in a forming mud puddle as her wings quickly become too waterlogged to fly.

For a moment, you think wistfully back to when you had a hat. Then you realize that it's coming down so quickly that a hat wouldn't save you.

...Also, the ground's softening really fast, and if you're not careful, you could lose your shoes in it. Which wouldn't be too bad, you have more than one pair, it's just... your other pair's in the Analog World. Not exactly somewhere you can pick it up easily.

The tree's are a bit sparser at the moment, and you aren't sure if any of the ones currently around you are good for shelter, but... maybe it'd be worth considering. Just so nothing happens where you have to fight a Dark Master barefoot. That would be... kind of inconvenient.

[ ] Try and take shelter.

I'm torn on whether to take shelter beneath a tree or look for something better. On one hand, a tree is probably not going to block out the rain all that well. On the other hand, looking for something better means staying out in the rain longer, and we don't know if anyone else will be sheltering in any location we find.
