[X] Inquire about the Pure World and Cloud Tribe History/Myths in general.
This only applies if you believe the world to be a zero sum game, which it isn't, it's very much the case that you can gain more total utility from cooperation than if you just fought for resources."People do not need to be that way," Ling Qi said quietly. "Your kin could trade for the things they need if that was all it is. It is not acceptable in the Empire to kill your neighbors for their things."
She of all people, couldn't say anything about theft.
"It is not?" Ilsur asked, still impassive. "You are strange then. My wife's people, they say such things. But, in the end if you tell a village they cannot fight their neighbors warriors for the chance to hustle their sheep, it seems to me that they simply make the arrangement of who takes and who is taken from even more unchanging."
I agree with you that the world is more than a zero sum game, but even the idea of zero sum games is fairly new. For the vast majority of history people have treated existence as a zero sum game, so it is completely reasonable for people in this story to do the same. This only applies if you believe the world to be a zero sum game, which it isn't, it's very much the case that you can gain more total utility from cooperation than if you just fought for resources.
Its simple fact for hunter gatherer nomads. This only applies if you believe the world to be a zero sum game, which it isn't, it's very much the case that you can gain more total utility from cooperation than if you just fought for resources.
It's... NOT a fact for hunter gatherer nomads though. It's a thing for pastoralists. With hunter gatherers the costs are high and the rewards low, because everything another tribe has is on that tribe's persons, and hunter gatherers do not generally possess much in the way of surplus. With pastoralists the costs are much lower, because a small number of people can look after a large herd, and the rewards are high, because herds are extremely mobile. Its simple fact for hunter gatherer nomads.
There is only so much to take. If you need more you have to take from someone or something else. The only resource they can build up is the skills and numbers of their tribe, and in order to do that they must prey on weaker tribes(if they are strong) or any tribe(if they are weak)
Seems like a waste, I thought it was pretty strongly implied what he saw as the difference between Ling and CaiAre we allowed to just straight up ask him what his problem was with CRX?
He probably views CRX as representing everything in the empire that he steals from and has enough when he was starving. But feels some sort of solidarity with Ling who has been a thief herself."Hah, you understand of course. I can hear your song of privation, lowlander. You know what it is to have your hollow belly devour all other concerns."
