Does that mean Cynthia will be starting with two mons? I'm jealous. ;)

The turtle theme isn't going to get far, as best I can remember these are the only two chains, however I wanted a rock/ground team anyway so its fine.

With the two we have, plus Squirtle and Tortera Torkoal, we already have enough to aim for Ninja Turtles. So yeah, even if the turts theme falls to the wayside, we have a decent backup.

Shieldon is dope, and Turtwig can bond with it over also being a slow, sturdy, small quadruped. The character/appearance image is nice, and contrasts well with the other two's character designs.

Cranidos would also be cool for a fossil starter. I'm all in favour of highlighting some of Sinnoh's Pokémon/fossils for our team first, before we start branching out.

I was thinking of picking Piplup as Empoleon is awesome. However, I have been convinced of the Way of the Testudines.

My other choice would have been the skull fossil, but we can honestly just pick it up later. What's important is that we go for Rock/Ground/Steel and integrate Sandstorm into our strategies.

Also, I actually did have something of a Steel-type tortoise Fakemon in mind (Toisword), although I was trying to keep Fakemon to a reasonable limit here, mostly some of my previous creations that I felt could fit in with Sinnoh (the evil Team being from another region), and Sinnoese forms.

Alright, as it seems clear that many want a turtle/tortoise team, I decided to search for all the options. In not specific order they are:

-The Squirtle line:
Water all the way and with a Mega evolution.

-The Turtwig line:
Grass all the way.

-Torkoal:
Fire and only fire.

-The Tirtouga line:
Water/Rock in both.

-Turtonator:
A fire/dragon.

-The Chewtle line:
Water and then Water/Rock.

And now, the following ones are in the "I guess you could call them tortoise/turtle base" category:

-Bergmite line:
All ice.

-Shuckle:
Bug/Rock
 
So a little weirdness happening with the tally, 'dark blue coat' and Red/Grey are actually tied for appearance right I now believe, but since the tally doesn't count images so counts [ ]Red/Grey and [ ](picture) separately, it may look like blue coat has the clear lead.
