[X] Be candid about your tragic backstory
I give it...Odds of a Nat 20 Himegami here doesn't trail off and stare into the sunset just when it's getting good, so to speak. Or maybe something a bit slicker then that because like she's going to get into the really vulnerable parts of her backstory with jerks watching to mock her.

Did we ever get Kanas full backstory? Was it comparable to the war crimes?

Yeah no, I'm not a fan of the backstory option when the most likely response is "clearly they were secretly subversives" or something like that.

A montage of the love-hate relationship she developed with Kana after she's forced to kill her, while the sad end credits theme begins to play early and Mari cries.

Fuck. Now I wanna see this, but it requires for us to die?

Why do you do this to me, you diabolical geographical dictionary?

Also.
"And I'm sure the Lady-High-Commander taking an interest in you doesn't speed things along at all," Amani says, unconvinced.

I'm going to take this wildly out of context and use it as supportive evidence for my crackship, HIMS Northern Daystar, to be precise.

Telling her about our tragic backstory is better, because Mari will have a flashback to this moment when she watches us die!
You see, this is where our brilliant forethought saves the day. Being injured and without a mecha, we gain extra sympathy points for our wounds, while being unable to deploy and thus immune to being tragically slain in battle!

if nothing else i`ll get a chapter of hopefully well written backstory beyond what we all ready have.

Ew, emotional honesty. We have an image to maintain!

What do you mean without a mecha? I'm sure they can procure us one of those civilian models with a modified cutting laser, like those guys in the space station back in Petals of Titanium. Dying will have never been easier!

(Horrifying war crimes, Naiya won't like it)

What is she gonna do tho, break out of jail at night while the guards are sleeping and murder us in our sleep?

(Please don't, I'd like Hime to live long and suffer)

Yeah, not feeling sympathetic, plus they can't really try to deny it without the Imperial Iapetus vet having an obvious freak-out.

As tempted as I am to overshare, I think that someone nominally on Mari's side (or at least not not on her side) that she can empathize with will be lot more effective at convincing our schoolgirl murder-pilot. Remember, teenager.
