On all sides of you there is the congregation. You thought you were a part of the community. For once in your miserable life you felt safe. You decided to open yourself up to your neighbors and the pastor.
You spoke of the forest, and the things within it. You spoke of the worms you couldn't see but knew that were on the edge of your vision just waiting for a moment of weakness. You spoke of Mansus.
The pastor smiled, and when he was sure that he knew everything he needed he had you beaten to within an inch of death by the very same community you had trusted. Then they dragged you to a miserable frozen hell-hole up north for a day.
They looked for a tree by some crossroads. Then, they hung you by the neck. They congratulated each other on a job well done and gradually dispersed, with the pastor being the last to leave. Before he left he told you one last thing.
"Thank you my friend for your last gift. With my new knowledge I can combat the enemy of man better than ever before. I hope you find peace in the Winter you spoke briefly of."
Then they left you, mostly dead, to die in the snow. Unfortunately for them you were only mostly dead, which meant you were still somewhat alive. You cling to life with a desperation that only the dying possess.
The community only knew the barest hints of the knowledge from your dreams. Never the entirety. They could never know what you held closest to your heart. The knowledge you dwelled on that let you survive what the community thought was Winter.
