He'll be the only vassal who won't complain about the Balkanization. Well, the only one who originally had a kingdom. The Boltons and Freys are thrilled.
Well, Doran won't complain either. A lot of people will likely complain about him and his new business, selling Dornish peeling salt.
For the Dornish, the conquest is the biggest "Fuck all of you!" they could give to the rest of Westeros. They are getting so filthy rich.
"Guess who has two thumbs and got to keep all his lands? This guy!"

I personally disagree with the idea of not trying to get Rob free from Winters hands. No good can come of it.
I understand the sentiment not going on another huge quest for little gain but I see that Something should be done even if it takes longer.

Okay. Answer this though. With what lead?
We don't even know where his soul is. We don't even know how to learn where his soul is. Even if we wanted we couldn't. At least not now, maybe in the future we will have options.

We don't even know where to start. This isn't something we can pursue immediately.

We did know where to start, animating his corpse and then researching how to track his soul through that. A bit too late now though
That would have opened up a months long line of research which may or may not have amounted to anything useful, during which time Soulless Robb would have, by necessity, been in less than total containment so that researchers could have access to him.

I really don't like giving up on Robb, but the time investment and danger involved just aren't worth the potential payoff, IMO. By the time we figured something out, if we figured something out, the likelihood of Robb's soul being intact would be negligible. The Void would destroy it utterly before allowing us to take it back, especially after we nabbed Rina from them.

our only current options that I see to track Robb's soul (without going on a wild goose chase in the Lands of Always Winter) are:

1) Let the Old Gods use a DIvine Salient ability which a)might not even be enough and b)enables THEM to mirror the action which is Not Good.

2) Do another giant sacrifice in thousands of HD to (hopefully) break through the Mind Blank-class wards which a) might also not work b) if that works I would rather use it on ANYTHING ELSE. Lanna, the Deep Ones, the Citadel, etc.

I've been looking for the two chapters in which Viserys and Lya went on a date in Braavos, went to the theater, watched a rather inaccurate play about them (well, about Viserys) and then surprised the terrified owner (or head of the troupe?) with a surprise visit.
Any suggestions for stuff to type into the search bar?

"that matter Eddard Stark is Jon's father and not Rhaegar who sired him"

Not sure what you were going for here.

Fixed.

Found it.

"Too young...?"

"Viserys is a MAN'S MAN. Braver than a Bravo! Tougher than a Tiger! Dauntless and not cautious! What do you know of fighting fiends form Hell?! My vision is undisputed before your charlatan hackneyed impressions!"

"I--"

"Everyone knows Viserys is tall, bulging with muscles that make shirts ripple and with luscious silver-gold hair!"

"But--"

"And sure, you do well enough... but the clothes!"

"What's wrong with--"

"Everything! No periwinkle cloak! No gold tassels! No lacquered red boots! Nay, ser! I say nay! Even your accent is off!"

"Now see here--"

"No, you see here! He speaks like a proper Braavosi. You sound like one of those oafish Westerosi Crownlanders at best! Overplaying his heritage, but everyone knows he's a true son of Braavos, never mind his origins!"

"You're--"

"I'm not finished! Before I throw you out of here, impostor, know this: Before the august majesty of King Viserys Targaryen, you are but the mere lesser shadow of a writhing snake upon the ground!"

Lya: *giggling* "Oooh nooo."

Viserys: "...CHANGE!"
I also found this gem, @TalonofAnathrax

@Azel Just thought it might be a good time to clarify a thing, as the time approaches? I think we didn't decide on every single Duchy because some of them would be used as rewards as land and keeps were stripped and handed off, but clarification would be nice.

Duchy of Western Dorne: Prince Doran Nymeros-Martell
Duchy of Eastern Dorne: Prince Doran Nymeros-Martell

Duchy of the Arbor: Duke Paxter Redwyne
Duchy of Oldtown: Duke Baelor Hightower
Duchy of the Mandervale: ?
Duchy of Red Lake: ?

Duchy of the Marches: ?
Duchy of the Stormlands: Duke Stannis Baratheon

Duchy of Greyport: Duke Theon Greyjoy
Duchy of the Heartlands: ?
Duchy of the Sothern Crownlands: ?
Duchy of the Northern Crownlands: ?
Duchy of the Midlands: ?
Duchy of Golden Mountains: ?

Duchy of the Iron Isles: Duchess Asha Greyjoy

Duchy of The Forks: Duke Walder Frey
Duchy of Greater Darry: Duke Raymun Darry
Duchy of Runestone: Duke Yohn Royce
Duchy of Verdant Vales: ?

Duchy of The Neck: Duke Howland Reed
Duchy of Whitelands: Duke Wyman Manderly
Duchy of the Dreadlands: Duke Roose Bolton
Duchy of the Winterlands: Duke Eddard Stark
Duchy of Stony Shore: ?
Duchy of Last River: Duke Jon Umber
Duchy of the Crowlands: ?
Duchy of the Bearlands: Duchess Maege Mormont
Thennlands: Duke Styr Magnar

Edit:

Looking at that list, Stony Shore is so sparsely populated that I do not believe there is anyone there who regularly collects taxes, and there's no port at all. So we could build a city there and just give the whole duchy to someone as a reward, if they don't mind the buildup period. It's basically unexploited, the only con being probably the perception that it isn't so good for farming given the soil, which can easily be fixed, and I imagine there's probably at least some forests, not to mention ore deposits.

Verdant Vales was going to go to a Braavosi viceroy I think? To let it develop and grow.

The Crowlands Was probably going to go to whoever ran the Night's Watch by the time the Long Night 2.0 was over, I guess?

Golden Mountains is looking like it might be awarded to Ser Reyne in our service (just as an additional FU I guess).

Midlands not sure.

Northern Crownlands and Southern Crownlands, well in the case of the Northern ones, perhaps the Brunes? And in the case of the Southern, we were looking to award it to someone, but I think we could just use it as a viceroy position, y'know? Bit like how Dragonstone was used as a training ground, except on an actually appreciable scale since anyone in our family we sent there would have swarms of staff from the Administration to help out who follow procedures and do most of the minutia, so mistakes aren't as great a deal.

Heartlands, not sure.

Marches, not sure.

Red Lake, not sure, also the Mandervale.

Part MMMDCLIX: Unbound and Away
Unbound and Away

First Day of the Fourth Month 294 AC

You, Dany and Ser Richard walk with Jon through the dusty corridors of the First Keep, still under his uncle's eye yet not somewhere a servant might see you. The dust lies thick as a memory of snow here and in the deep silence you can almost hear Lyanna following along unseen but not unfelt. "Can you call your mother forth please, Jon? This concerns her as much as it does you."

"No... that is, I can't. She was banished, I guess. I was afraid..." he trails off unable to finish the sentence, or perhaps unwilling lest it tempt fate.

As good an opening as you are likely to get. "That is part of what I wished to speak to you of. Since Dany learned of your magic we have been constrained in the aid we could give you in growing into your magic or indeed anything else you might wish to do with your life..."

"I want to learn magic. I need to learn magic," the boy interrupts you fiercely. "That thing that came to Winterfell, you could cut it with a sword as long as the sword was Ice, but the Ones behind it, those will take sorcery to unmake, even to understand enough to know where to start."

With a mental note to thank Ser Halys Wavestrider for teaching Jon to value knowledge and not just power you nod. "Right then, let me start with an offer to anchor your mother's soul elsewhere else than in yours." Jon looks like he wants to interrupt again but you raise a hand in mute request to finish. "The binding between you is the consequence of magic and souls reaching blindly and without plan, and more to the point it is not fair. It is not fair to you that you would have to carry another person, through your every sleeping and waking moment, and it is not fair to her in that she would forever be frozen in that desperate moment, unable to let go of fear and anger lest love and life too slip away."

"I... I'm not doing that to her. Am I?" he asks horrified. The air grows chill with Lyanna's anger, but you pay her no mind for now.

"No, you are keeping her here the only way you can," Dany answers catching on to what you were playing at. "We could have glazed that in honey more, but it would have served no purpose." She pauses a moment, looking him up and down, then her eyes grow a little unfocused as she tries to look for Lyanna. "Love is not an arcane property, Jon. It does not require a thread of binding magic. Once she is anchored differently in life, be it by flesh, by steel or a necromancer's arts, she will still be your mother."

"Necromancers?" Jon asks surprised. "You have... I mean, I know I could use those sorts of spells and rituals, but I have never really wanted to. Too much like Them."

"It is not the sort of magic anyone can practice in my realm, not without scrutiny and trust, but for all that it is a valuable tool in many ways. Consider those men call the Deep Ones, masters of mind magic yet unable to subvert those without living brains or minds...." You had not planned to give an ad hoc lesson on death magic, but it should hopefully prove distracting from his troubles and give Jon some understanding of how the Scholarum operates and why he might wish to travel to Sorcerer's Deep.

By the end of it Jon is nodding along thoughtfully, and asking questions about testing Qyburn's unliving soldiers against Winter. You suspect he is imagining what some of them could have done in defense of Winterfell and his foster brother. "You said something about steel too. Mother is interested in that. I think..." he cuts himself off, a dark expression that might have been sorrow, anger or both together coloring his features. "We would like to hear about that."

So it is that between Dany and yourself you recount the tale of Anu and the warforged, in particular of their powers and their nature as ensouled steel. Though you cannot judge Lyanna's mood directly, the warming of the air back to being merely drafty rather than cold enough for your breath to fog in front of you seems to be a good indication that you have won her over.

The words, almost too soft for you to catch, certainly do much so for Jon to hear: "A bargain then, they would not give me steel to bear because they valued my body too highly so it is fitting that I should wear a body of steel in the end." A moment passes, than five more words ripple through the air: "You are not like Rhaegar."

You take the sentiment in the spirit it was meant. Perhaps Lyanna can be more than someone you tolerate for Jon's sake.

"She says yes," the boy repeats, unaware of the byplay.

"That brings us to the second part of my offer. If you wish you may come to Sorcerer's Deep as my ward, study at the Scholarum, you can receive training in swordsmanship from Ser Willem Darry and even Ser Richard over there just as Dany and I did."

"You use a sword?" Jon blurts out, cheeks flushing a moment later.

"More a knife really," she says, drawing Feeder, in all his strange glory. She laughs lightly, "Oh, you think this is strange, maybe you should have a look at Sorcerer's Deep before saying yay or nay."

"I would love to," Jon replies, though the smile slides off his face as he speaks. He sighs. "It's just that Robb would have loved to see it with me. I don't know if I can do or be..." he shakes his head almost angrily. "I should feel more grateful for this. I mean, you are giving me all this and all I can feel is angry and sad and..."

Dany puts a hand around his shoulder. "It's alright Jon. We don't expect you do or be anything. Viserys is offering you all this because you are family and we would like for you to be closer to home. There aren't that many of us out there you know."

"Home..." Jon had stopped walking, looking like he would like to step out of the hug but not quite able to bring himself to do so. "Home was always here for me, but without Robb it won't be the same. Lady Stark would be less cold I suppose now that I'm no longer a stain upon her marriage, but..."

Cold comfort far too late, you silently finish what the boy is too polite to say.

"I love Bran and Arya as my own brother and sister, but they are still little, they won't miss me that badly and I can still visit, right?" Jon continues to convince himself, barely needing a nod from you. "All right, I'll go... I mean, if Lord Stark won't object."

Somehow you doubt he will, you think as you turn back towards the entrance of the keep, though that does raise a question of how much of a garrison you should send without Jon being present.

OOC: Breaking off here because I want to do Eddard's oaths in his own interlude. If you guys have suggestions for equipment and such for Jon now would be a good time to discuss.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

Can you give us Jon's stats, @DragonParadox? I realize he's still a kid, but I mostly need to know what numbers are even and odd, so I can work up a plan for some a couple pieces of custom gear for him.

Mostly thinking hitting him out with an upgraded version of the standard Scholarium Combat Sorcerer's gear package, with better stat boosters, various charms, etc.
