    First Day of the Fourth Month 294 AC

    The table has not seen use since the invasion of Lys and before that the plan for the integration of Myr, all the way back to the invasion of Tyrosh. It is one of the few pieces of furniture that survives what the more obsequious courtiers call the 'barbaric splendor' of the Old Keep. Personally you call it the mark of a good eye from whatever pirate captain had to set together a solid foundation for future raids and plunder. There is room enough for all among your companions concerned with military matters, from Dany at your right hand to Ser Richard at your left, Waymar and Tyene sitting together across from you pouring over maps of Dorne and the Vale to Garin here to discuss the distribution of the last acts of the shadow war.

    Here too are representatives of the Legion, the Skyfleet and the Navy of the Stepstones in black and crimson. The men and women who guard the Narrow Sea, the ones who will fight for your birthright, though you hope that it will be less battle and more enforcement in the end. The letters you have planned for the end of this month are meant to help seal that transition. Your mother is already working to formulate them best for each House, from true loyalists, to those who know which way the wind is blowing to those Houses still unfortunate enough to count themselves your enemies.

    In many ways the military preparations is expected, only an extension of the local readiness they are already in following the discovery of the demonic cult still at large and so take the least amount of time to set in place. For the moment a state of High Readiness, which includes the legions being ready to deploy within twenty four hours, is being presented simply as a means to ensure the security of the coronation, but people do not attain high military rank in your Imperium without some measure of political acumen. You can see the suspicion that invasion of Westeros is imminent reflected in dozens of eyes.

    Of course part of that may have to do with the fact that you made no attempt to hide preparations of the next issue of the Imperial Times, there truly is no point seeing as everyone will be able to read it at their leisure in a few days when the presses are done printing the full account, the misdeeds of the Golden Shields, articles about the deaths in the Red Keep backed by the the proof Bloodraven provided. Only the last part had been kept under wraps for both political and news considerations. You don't want Tywin to get any retort ahead of the story, if such a thing were even possible, and the writers of the Times want to sell as many newspapers as they can within the Imperium in addition to what will be distributed free of charge in the Seven Kingdoms.

    "Do we really have to approve caricatures?" Tyene's question cuts through your thoughts. It is just you and your companions left now, the officials moving out to set various plans and contingencies in motion.

    "I suppose not," you answer at length, considering a drawing of Cersei sitting on the Iron Throne, the head of Robert Baratheon and the unrecognizable skulls and decayed heads of other people impaled on the throne, with the words "All hail the new queen" beneath. "It's fun though."

    Laughter echoes through the room, even ser Richard chuckles. Of course you are not actually giving this sort of careful scrutiny to the new issue of the Times just for entertainment's sake.     "I think the latest draft is a good mix of not seeming so conciliatory as to be taken for weakness or just disbelieved while making it so the readers know they will be treated well if they surrender," Garin offers at your latest draft. "It helps that we won't be fighting a concerted campaign against sorcery from the Faith, most folk there trust their village septon over their lord any day. Should we send someone to speak to the High Septon?"

    You consider the matter a long moment before shaking your head. "You said it yourself, the village septon, not the Most Devout or the High Septon in the capital. Do we have someone who is good with striking a chord there on staff at the Times or even just willing to write and article? Nothing extraordinary, just a rendering of imperial law, and assurance that they will be able to practice their faith in peace, safely and without the meddling of lords and other secular interests in their doctrine?"

    "I might know someone, one of my knights," Waymar replies. "He's genuinely devout too so it should ring sincere."

    The look Tyene gives him is a mix of pride and something else that raises a flush to his cheeks.

    You clear your throat, just loud enough to draw attention away from the pair. "I was thinking of traveling North to visit Jeor Mormont to deliver the news in person and lead up to discussing the future of the Nights Watch. "

    "Why?" Dany asks, curious as ever.

    "I mean to end the Watch's isolation," you reply simply. "It is a bastion meant to keep the Enemy of All back. It should be guarded to the best of all our abilities."

    "The Northern Lords will balk at any infringement to its ancient privileges," your sister points out.

    "Well then it is a good thing I do not plan any formal modifications to its status," you answer with a smile. "The Kings of Westeros never had the resources or the will to give direct aid to the Watch, I do."

    "Some toes are going to get stepped on there," she sniffs amused.

    Before you can answer the jest Tyene speaks up. "I think we might want to speak to the Northern Lords before that or at least Lord Stark. If you are talking about putting legion garrisons and steam launchers on the Wall... well you are talking about conquering Westeros before the first legionary sets foot in the Gift. Otherwise you are asking Jeor Mormont to keep quiet and while the man has many fine qualities, skilled intriguer is not one of them."

    What do you do?

But it genuinely can wait until you have taken care of other things, among them a Feylord about to become, or knowing your dogshit luck already, a pawn of the Others, as well as wringing the last bit of satisfaction you can from Dusk Dancer.

    Considering just how significantly we've been showing "favor" for the OG and the Red God, they'll need a lot of reassuring!
    It's easy to say "oh, of course I'll treat you fairly!" while growing Heart Trees visible from space and sending armies to fight alongside the Red God's enemies in the land of fire-Fey. It's easy to promise equality, but it'll be a little harder to be believed by these yokels more used to theocracies than to secular Kings.

    Well if there's anything in favor of Viserys' defense of his word here, it's that he's unlikely to want to share secular power or authority over other religions with other religions. So protecting their innate rights seems likely just as a matter of practicality.

    This reasoning starts from such an absolutist premise that local septons likely won't even think of it. Of course major religions will always be influential! Anything else is completely unimaginable!
     
    We pretty much wanted to marginalise the Most Devout and the High Septon though. It just never got anywhere, since the Faith has been one of the largely abandoned plotlines.
     
    I'm pretty sure we have done somethings for the Faith of the Seven. At least to the ones in our territory if nothing else. Didn't we make a big Sept and supported other ones?

    All those heretics Septons, vanished into salt-space...
    Well, to be fair DP did mention that some of them were reunited with the "mainstream" faith, IIRC. But yeah, the disappearance of that plotline is a shame.

    Problem is more that what little focus all of it got was placed entirely on the Chosen after the Conclave, yet nothing of note happened on that front either. So it all stalled out completely.
     
    @DragonParadox, another few errors:
    - The Imperium as a whole is only on Low Readiness, High Readiness is only for Army, Air-Force and Inquisition in the Stepstones.
    - We don't plan a naval invasion at all.
    -- @Goldfish, would be good if you could get us a few scrolls of Create Greater Demiplane crafted to not deplete our spellslots for this on go-day.
