The core problem is not "woke culture" or anything like it, but that the soulless business suits at Disney do not care about the content of their product. They have a checklist for what needs to be inside a story, which has been focus-tested to appeal to broadest audience possible, and then it will be handled to the writing-mill to have a script churned out that covers the whole list. Said script will then be handed to some name that is associated with success and the only thing the suits care about after that point is when the money comes in.

For the new Star Wars trilogy, the list seemed to have been:
- people liked the previous installment, so make it that, just new
- have a female lead, because people want female leads
- have a token minority character, preferably a black one, since they are the least offensive to people
- have a token Asian character for the Chinese market
- cash in on nostalgia by having all the old characters show up
- make it Gritty and Realistic by having dark things happen
- but make it PG-13, so don't dwell on any of the Gritty and Realistic stuff
- cover all plot holes and lack of story by gratuitous action sequences

Which is basically the same formula they are using for most of their films these days. Which is why they are same-ish, forgettable and plain bad.
 
The best part of having a dragon as a boss, is that it will take care of you even when you are weak.
Provided they used to be human before they were a dragon, or are one of the Metal ones, and of those Metal ones one of the ones that doesn't get enjoyment from watching mortals struggle for their lives/actually has a human level time scale instead of treating decades like days.

Eh, even Amrelath and Relath aren't terrible bosses when it comes down to it. As long as you're not terminally stupid and trying to challenge the authority of a fucking dragon while you're an upjumped hairless monkey you're going to be fine.

Not disagreeing, the core of my previous comments were that the problem stems from executives who don't give a shit investing responsibility in writers either lacking talent--or just plain ability, to reconcile all of these needs into a comprehensible script.

Yes, it's not worth pointing fingers at "Woke" culture or identity politics as the root of all evils and source of all pain and woe for franchises. That's not really the case--at the end of the day, although this progressive movement really likes to 'invade' other hobbies and interests and try to transform them into one which espouses their opinions, they lose interest far too quickly to have a long-lasting impact, and the basis for their cross-over isn't that they have broad reach or authority in this day and age, it's more that they intersect with enough demographics that pandering to things they like is a "safe" decision, monetarily... up to a point.

Executives will eventually forget about them. Media will become bearable again. Once it becomes financially sound [to produce good content].

Right now, shit sells.

It won't change. Not while Disney owns everything. The writing is bad not because of the items on the ingredient list, but because they are assembled on a production line to a soulless corporate product. Movies used to be art. Labours of love. And some of the greatest ones in recent years still were.

But franchises? They will be bad. Forever.

Honestly finding it hard to disagree. I mean, people still produce worthwhile content... but that's from a consumer perspective. A "will this entertain me sufficiently for two hours and not cause me to think about that period of time in an overly negative fashion and thus make me waste my breath breaking down everything that is wrong with it".

Safe, basically. Which as you say, isn't about love, or passion, or genuine art.

What I describe is basically appealing to a different demographic, perhaps even one that fits within a niche, the ones that specifically spend money on Star Wars, for Star Wars, rather than because a movie trailer gave them a preview of most of their concerns in what media they consume being progressive.

That's just the world as it stands now though. Everything sucks, and while it's possible in theory to change that, if you and everyone you can convince or are cooperative with work really, really hard to do so... you will not get to see the fruits of that labor for years, at best. Maybe never.

Unfortunately for us we're surrounded, ruled by, and ultimately controlled by a bunch of assholes who'll deforest the area to make another golf course.

Then again it's been that way since we've made cities and invented commerce. So long as there is a have's and a have not there will be those who'll do anything in their power to have more than anyone else, even when realistically speaking what they have can feed, clothe, and shelter their entire bloodline for 5 generations without one of them working a day in their lives.

Honestly it makes a man want to leave society and be a hermit, but he can't because all the land is owned and there's nowhere he can build a hut that won't get demolished by an asshole looking to build another suburb in less than a decade.

You can always try to simply create better media then what is available.
 
Also they don't have internet in the forest and I for one would miss you guys a great deal if you decided modern civilization is not worth it.
True, and to be honest I've grown quite fond of this place.

On the other hand I'd rock that dirty old sage with mystic secrets aesthetic so hard. Sure those secrets would only be how to make a kickass spaghetti casserole and my grandma's sweet tea but we can't all be cultivation experts.

Exactly the same thing. Any low level PCs brought along for a fight like this are gonna gain two levels at minimum. In Jeyne's case, being the lone psion in all of the Imperium, she'd probably get singled out for extra challenges by the eldritch.
