North Winds Fall (Xianxia - Survive the Protagonist)

I'd prefer South Winds. It's a perfect whetstone to hone ourself.

West Wind being a pre-WW2 Japanish state is a militant expansionist shithole.

[X] South Winds Democratic Republic

[X] West Winds Federation
Just found out we're shit at social-fu, but we're actually passible in sword. Time to go revolutionary girl on these people.

[X] West Winds Federation

Not ideal but our social is apparently utter pants no matter what we thought so Sword Princess all the way I suppose.

So if I understood it correctly, Junko tricked the Emperor into ascending without ascending herself and then fucked off to Heaven knows where, leaving the North Winds Empire in a civil war and dooming a bunch of innocents to death after completing her revenge. What a hypocritical self righteous bitch.

[X] West Winds Federation
I hope that Autumn gets to pursue her dream while being the best sister she can be, leading to her and Xue Wei becoming a badass duo that could hold their own against any of the so called protagonists.

Thought about it some more and decided to play Autumn as feeling pretty burned.

[X] West Winds Federation

He was impressed and surprised that Xue Thu was the last of his children standing against the Heavensent.

At least someone in this family appreciates and likes us, damit. How ironic that it's the Emperor himself.

[X] West Winds Federation

If I were her, I'd try to go somewhere I'd be surely valued. And it's even better if she's valued for what she actually likes doing, not her looks and charm (which btw is now questionable too). I do hope we get a bit more time before the next.. protagonist incident.

If she was alone I would have vote for staying just to try to kill this bunch of protagonists but since she has her sister I will vote :

[X] West Winds Federation

And I expect West Wind to shortly trying to invade North Wind and maybe try to use Xue Thu as a figurehead later on (Mandchuria-style).

[X] West Winds Federation

Invincible Saber Princess here we go. Reach the throat of the Heavensent through violence.

[X] South Winds Democratic Republic
Given how unstable, assassination heavy, and deluded pre WW2 Japan was in real life, I really don't want to see what the Xianxia version looks like.

[X] South Winds Democratic Republic

I think this is the safest area for our sister and while voting solely due to that one thing might not be the best idea nothing else about the options really speaks to me.

There will be a new protagonist, but they are not yet empowered at this point, and not opposed to you but an acquaintance you will meet. I hope to continue to play with traditional ideas and cliches, while having a distinct culture and story situation for Autumn and Wei.

So, I was thinking about where things will go in the future.

Now obviously this sort of depends on how things go and what kind of time-scale our QM offers us, but I have a few thoughts.

So in regards to cultivation, it looks like we are going to the West Winds Federation. Where things are more martially inclined and there are thousands of Fourth Grade Cultivators. If I have the math right, Xue Hu (Autumn) is 17 years old and a Third Grade Blade Cultivator. Xue Tuen is 15 years-old and a Second Grade Cultivator. Xue Wei is 10 years-old and ...well either a Zeroth or First Grade Cultivator of something given she won a gauntlet of fistfights.

Now, whether or not we are able to meet up with Tuen, he should be relatively capable of taking care of himself. He has been living "independently" for some 5 years now anyway. Wei is the real anchor here. And we know Hu cares about Wei because Wei was the first thing she worried about once she was awake enough to think. This is important because it creates a cap for how strong Hu can allow herself to get. If Hu ascends too quickly and reaches Fifth Grade before Wei is capable of looking after herself, then Hu will be effectively abandoning her little sister. And even then, I question whether Hu (currently) has the drive to leave behind the only family she has left.
Now maybe I am getting way ahead of myself here and ascension through the ranks will take a while, but it is an issue to keep in mind. At any rate, if and when Hu reaches Fourth Grade, we will probably want to look into widening the breadth of her cultivation instead of deepening it further.

In more long-term thoughts... We know Xue Hu is going to cross paths with another Xianxia protagonist sooner or later. I feel safe assuming this will be a confrontational meeting, though I will admit she might end up temporary allies depending on decisions and rolls.
Assuming the new protag is also Heavansent, that will be twice the Heavens have upturned Xue Hu's life. I figure, no more than three such encounters will be enough for Autumn to actively pursue direct vengeance against the Heavens (I figure right now she's not opposed to revenge but is unlikely to dedicate herself to it). Which would be an interesting and natural development.

WW1. Escape and Entry
Autumn held Wei's hand for support as they walked to the large carriage with curtains drawn across the back and sides.

The curtains depicted a snow storm, and a man standing strong in the middle of it.

She hoped she could get some healing remedies once they made it to West Winds.

The two horses were already saddled up as she painfully climbed into the back of the carriage, with Wei following.

She didn't dare teleport if something went wrong. What possessions they had were already in the carriage.

Wei had taken to her training saber, even though her kid sized hands and short height made it a bit awkward. Autumn didn't dare to use a jot of essence until more time and healing had passed.

She could stand there and deflect basic strikes from Wei to help her practice but that was about it.

Autumn had carried 300 yuan on that fateful day. Usually she let — she couldn't even think about that person, it made her want to vomit. Instead she took deep breaths.

Snow Chau rode with them as well, and if anyone asked who was riding along, she could jump out and explain it was just her.

The driver was a trusted Snow family friend.

"Half our staff left, and some others tried to sabotage us," Chau said. "Rieff and Hejl families cover both unregistered and registered. Sang has coopted a lot of families they used to work with, they've got the spy influence."

"Your mom had to leave to start the Honorable First Families effort?" She asked.

"Without a Warehouse of treasures for ourselves , we will be lost."

The safest route was long, taking them East out of town, and then south and finally back west towards the border with West Winds.

After a half hour of riding the carriage stopped and Snow Chau got out. After fifteen minutes she finally returned.

"Sang family enforcer. I only managed to chase him off. It's going to be dangerous for me on the return trip."

Autumn pondered that. "You still want to stay and fight?"

"My mom and dad are fighting. Xue Son died to save his siblings. I have to still fight. And who knows what it will be like over the border?"

Autumn paid for the change of horses after the first night. The others would eventually be returned to the Snow family if society remained functional. She was lucky to have 300 Yuan in coins. This was still worth something. The Xue promissory notes would be worthless now.

The second day they rode west through villages she had never seen before. Here Autumn imagined that nothing had changed for the villagers yet.

No one knew her and Wei, and they practiced being normal people as they had dinner in two villages on separate nights.

Her silver yuan coins were dwindling, and she didn't know how much they would be worth in West Winds.

It was late morning of the fourth day when they reached the border.

She was thankful to Chau and the Snow family for their help. Chau appreciated her showdown with that hateful servant.

Autumn was surprised to see Girls her age and younger at the border, dressed as guards.

"Goodbye Snow Chau," Wei said.

"Goodbye, May the Divine Emperor's Perfect Image protect you. Don't let the failure of human Emperors discourage you," she said, waving goodbye.

The two girl guards took their weapon sheaths and escorted Autumn and Wei to an older girl.

"Lieutenant Masame. Two girls entering," they said in their flowing accent.

The Lieutenant had a piece of paper on a clipboard. "Name?"

Vote:
Wei will have the same last name as Autumn.
Setsu is a Japanese version of Xue.
Hsueh is different transliteration of the Xue character.
Thu is Vietnamese for Autumn, afaik, technically it has been her first name all along.
West Winds follows the same Family Name, Given Name pattern of North Winds

I figure at least trying for a new last name is prudent. Hsueh is a pretty weak cover, but Autumn won't have to worry about not reacting if someone calls to her.

[X] Hsueh Thu

A few notes in the first name. Aki is Japanese for Autumn.

If you choose Thu as the first name, I'll translate that by only having people real close to Autumn using that name, to everyone else she will be Thu. If you choose Autumn everyone will call her that.

I'm thinking of having the West Winds use family name in formal situations and given name in personal situation, so they won't be using both both names together.

I also think it's a weak cover, but atm I'm afraid that Autumn's not actually skilled enough to go for a better cover. Baby steps.

What about Shūsui (秋水) Autumn Waters as a name?
