Why is HD worth so much money?

I guess that explains the Extraplanar (and closer to home, the Valyrian) slave-based economy. Fucking ludicrous value per fiend conjured. Would not be surprised if that's how up and coming dragonlords built up their initial capital.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think that this is a thing because it's supposed to be bad to mulch sentient things for raw materials. Thankfully, we outgrew such barbaric practices when we forged an unliving engine of woe from the carcass of an Archduke of Baator that produces a concentrated stream of purest order and one of purest corruption.

Probably only because we're calculating the cost of producing it from nothing but reagents. It's a lot easier but for obvious reasons more expensive. If we just bleed out imps and quasits it really isn't that hard.

Really makes me wonder how many miles to the HD we could have gotten if my old Infernal Combustion Engine idea had gotten off the ground.

Duesal: "They are rage. Brutal. Without mercy. But you, you will be worse..."

Duesal: "Blend and compress, until it is done."

Blurgh... that's an error that keeps getting copied over from when I first made it.

The ritual to make more of Imperial Steel is the same as it is for Valyrian Steel. It just requires 4 times the HD or 4 times the juice from the Mammon Machine. So 4 HD per 50lb or 800 IM per 50lb.
Okay, with this now in mind, I'm referring back to this old post of mine:
The Legion is definitely getting decked out in Imperial Steel when Meraxes delivers. Of course we are going to want to perform a raid on one of our many fiendish enemies to get the appropriate sacrifices so we don't need to pay the cost purely in Imperial Marks.

So assuming everyone in a single Legion with 11,800 members gets at least an Imperial Steel Thinblade, and keeping in mind that where a Longsword is 4 lbs a Thinblade is like 3 lbs, we're looking at 35,400 lbs of Imperial Steel needed overall. That translates to 708 HD needed. And we already have a lifetime supply of Hell Iron so we don't need to pay anything on that front.

If we use the Mammon Machine for this instead of tossing fiends into the grinder, that's 200 IM per HD, which will cost 141,600 IM. That's... honestly cheap as fuck considering the wealth we throw around for various projects these days. We just need to organize another major Efreeti raid and we can probably pay for equipping every Legion and the Night's Watch.
So for us to deck out a Legion with Imperial Steel weaponry as opposed to Valyrian Steel, we'd need around 2,832 Fiendish HD as the payment.

If we tried to pay that cost entirely with the Mammon Machine, that would cost us 566,400 IM to pull off.

Alternatively, to equip a full Legion with Imperial Steel, it would cost us 944 Imps or Quasits.

These numbers might seem large, but we've got a lot of fiendish enemies we're willing to butcher and maim. And the Efreeti did just donate a nice Turtle Ship to boost our finances yet again.

But holy hell, the utter shock Westeros will have when the First Legion rolls up with Imperial Steel... I'd really like to have them equipped before our conquest.

Shit, I just realized that we have a Mammon Machine and that in a few years "Lavos" will come closer to the planet. Better the fucker not hit the ground, or if it does we're killing it ultra dead and butchering it for parts!

@Azel I think Animate with Spirit is about as good a starting point as anything else we're likely to find for sticking souls in undead. There's the minor issue of the resulting creature counting as alive but possessed instead of undead, but it's still a solid core to start with research wise.

Whatever happened with the "super fortress"?
If you're talking about the anti-Efreeti fotress, it's being slowly built in the background. We've got plenty of time to make it airtight and make sure all the different enchantment schools blend together properly.

IIRC we've got Shaitan enchantments, Djinn enchantments, Marid Enchantments, First Men runecrafting, blessings of various gods (specifically R'hllor, who can provide a ritual to essentially trap hostile fire-based creatures in a certain area, which we've had Benerro work on for extending the area affected) and whatever else Darleth comes up with.

There's a lot going on there, but it's making progress.

I've been collecting stuff to layer onto that once we get back to it. There's a surprising variety of magical land mines out there, even before you get into building your own around convenient spells.

Then there's the more exotic stuff, like skulls that act as alarms/flamethrowers and invisible sentry blades. Its going to be great to see how nasty the final setup gets. :V

Given that the time scale is being pushed back on this, I can see us having a lot more spare coin for more enduring and deadly enchantments further down the line. I'm really excited to see the final result when the time comes.
