I'm not sure about that. The average Human is mostly water, but there is quite a bit of fat and protein in their, too, along with various essential vitamins and minerals.

I'm not advocating cannibalism, of course, just saying that we're not empty calories... 🧐

Adjusted the spreadsheet so it no longer even tries to track deployments for AG assets, but instead links to the informational post. Now it just tracks manpower usage and number of craft of each type.

At some point the average reader will be better informed than Goldfish and me about what we actually own.

That day is not today.

Slow and steady wins the game. We just need to reorganize the info-posts bit by bit.

  • [X] Offer to foster her son in Sorcerers Deep
-[X] Meet personally as a sign of respect to hash out the terms, namely what we should teach her heir and if there are any things we need to look out for. This meeting will also be used to ensure that there are no diplomatic misunderstandings due to our different cultures.
--[X] If Viserys thinks it's possible she might accept, offer her a trip to SD to show her around, including a visit to Everfire Ironworks and the construction berth of the Dauntless to show off what your realm can achieve.
-[X] Also offer her the sale of minor, non-soulforged undead, who can be used to beef up her defenses, especially against infiltrators. We would also offer other assets, but these are the only ones for which her own people can guarantee that they come with no hidden agendas or other surprises.
-[X] Security detail wise, assign a Black Champion guarding him 24/7, and at least one Erinyes and a Vigilant Hunter guarding his home and accompanying him when he is out and about. Also, light Inquisition spying and regular House of Mirrors check-ups.
[X] Also offer Yrten to bring the Golden Wind to Sorcerers Deep for cheaper repairs and a refit.
-[X] Unless the damage to the ship is so extensive that it requires a Memory of Form treatment for 2,000 IM, the dry-dock of SD should be able to fully repair it with not additional cost beyond replacement materials.
-[X] Also offer him the following refits:
--[X] Improving the armor of the hull with the hardened lead-steel composite used in AG-Vessel hulls.
--[X] Armoring critical parts of the ship with 1 ton of Adamantine that you will get from the scrapped Shield Ship.
--[X] Adding one Brilliant Barrier system and a Entropic Shield figurehead to the ship.
-[X] Lastly, you will give him command of the 5 Sword Ships that the Shaitan have refitted for you, and the 2 new Sword Ships too once their refits are done.

Part MMMDCXLIII: Wheels of War
Wheels of War

Twenty Ninth Day of the Second Month 294 AC

Meeting the Queen of Blackweb once more, this time on your own terms, is a solemn occasion, though thankfully not one stiffed by ceremony. For all the Salamander Princedoms are oft motivated by greed for gold and lust for glory that would do an Ironborn reaver proud, they are not without their own appreciation for architecture, smithcraft and sorcery, all of which she offers fulsome praise of. At first she is less impressed at the notion of lesser undead to bolster her forces, until Siduri politely notes that in this world under the sun the remains of the dead do not fall to ash and smoke. The graveyards are filled with corpses and every battle sows bones by the tens of thousands.

Two thousand lesser dead she asks for to stand upon the ramparts of her island home, and to be first into the breach in the most dangerous of shore raids. "Craft them in whatever manner seems most suited to the task," she says at last. Elaheh nods, chains clinking faintly through her newest vestment of flesh, familiar with the ways of the Spheres if not this particular kindred. By the next month's end it will be done. You will be richer in Brass Seals, the better to sacrifice in the grand ritual, and poorer only in corpses.

With the way the world is turning you have no doubt there will be plenty more corpses to replace those forged into an army.

What undead to you forge for the Queen of Blackweb?

In the meantime the young prince is afforded accommodations due his standing in a small manse near the steadily rising walls and delved halls of the new Imperial Palace. Having learned from the naga that those of a serpentine body plan do not particularly enjoy navigating stairs the residence has only two floors connected by sweeping ramps. The prince does not remark upon the undead servitor that is assigned to protect him at all times, though he is wary of the fury who is to provide him protection against subtler dangers when he is out of the residence. Thankfully the erinyes can be charming as they are deadly at need. A diplomatic posting is still far preferable to library duty.

Speaking of warriors ill at ease at peace, Yrten is torn between appreciation at the notion that you plan to not only repair but also better armor the Golden Wind and frustration that she needs to spend time in drydock at all. "Should've gone with the high-sails. Slim pickings be damned," he half-grumbles at Siduri who merely rolls her eyes at him.

Obviously familiar with the sort of things her captain grumbles into his beard the mage shakes her head in fond exasperation. "That is not why we split and you know it as well as I do, no matter what we told the crew."

She does not elaborate further to keep from rubbing salt in the wound. From the reports the reasoning had been that the Dawn Chaser was much faster than the Golden Wind, but also much more noticeable. Siduri's illusions would do nothing to hide her, rendering most of their tactics moot. Yet the corsair ship had ended up stuck in port under siege while skyship had liberated another of the far flung prisons of the Brazen Throne, akin to the one which had held Bloom, following leads from shaitan spies.

Ironically enough it had been the very paranoia of the builders, securing the prisoners deep in the complex behind enchanted doors and powerful wards, that had allowed the Moonchaser-class vessel and its escorts to bomb it with impunity without fear of slaying those they had come to rescue. While the prison held no great treasures of its own, several of those freed had no life to return to and chose the Garden over the Opaline Vault for reasons of their own.

Last, though surely not least, of the news from the Realm of Fire arrives by whispered message from the City of Brass. For once things have been quiet near the Bazaar of Sins, a sign perhaps that the shop is finally beginning to fade into the constant hum of business that passes through those streets. However the city itself is far from tranquil for the Brazen Throne has declared that it will be hiring sellswords, not only for secondary theaters but for the campaigns against the shaitan and the djinn.

Given the Sultan's disdain for soldiers that are not bound to him by bonds of blood and magic such soldiers of fortune can expect to be thrown at the tip of the spear and oft bloodied, but the Treasury is vast and those tempted many. Even Bronn had been approached by a would-be captain looking to put together a company to present to the Commander of Hosts.

What next?

OOC: On the matter of the shop, now that we are not focusing on it as much I made the table for it a bit less business. It is possible to roll 'nothing happens', but then again it's also possible to roll 'nothing seems to happen but something/someone moves in the background'.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, @DragonParadox.

  1. 1 Janni Alchemist 8
  2. 1 Axiomite Wizard 5
  3. 1 Lythic Oracle 6 (Can teach as Mystic)
These are all great finds! The Janni could perhaps teach Alchemy, if he's inclined in that direction to help bolster our numbers of Alchemists, or perhaps he would be content running an Industrial Alchemy Facility?

The Axiomite could be a trove of valuable information about Axis, and the Lythic Oracle would make a good addition to the teaching staff of one of our smaller Scholarium branches.

Are there mechanics in place to account for how a genuine Alchemist would run a production facility as opposed to a level 5 Hedge Mage? Can they run more than one?

No, for our purposes there really isn't any significant difference. The 8th level Alchemist only really had three more ranks in the Craft (Alchemy) skill than the 5th level Hedge Mage. An Alchemist's magic is highly specialized and doesn't really transfer to our industrial Alchemy.

Alchemists also get a bonus equal to their level on craft (Alchemy), so he would have a much better score.

That is a Competence bonus equal to their Alchemist level, but all of our workers already benefit from a +5 Competence bonus to their crafting skills due to Magecraft enchantments.

That does raise their overall skill bonus to +6 versus the 5th level Hedge Mage, but it still doesn't really matter for the industrial facilities. Those don't rely on personal skill, but rather simplified large scale processes which Waymar developed.

For what the Queen is requesting, I think simple Black Knights with a mobility upgrade will be best. She wants bodies to man the walls and serve as a shock absorber for her real troops. Black Knights are extremely affordable for what capabilities they bring to the table. They're sure to be lost in combat, but that isn't any great loss due to their low price.

The biggest question I think is whether we want to seek these at cost or with the traditional markup? My current vote include a the markup, but I don't mind removing that if y'all would prefer it.

[X] x1000 Black Knights with Mobility Upgrade (CR 6) - 560 IM each (TOTAL: 56,000 IM), Sell Price: 112,000 IM

[X] Madness of Qohor

Black knights are not fireproof by default.

@DragonParadox, can I put something together in undead overnight?

[X] Report and Infodump on the Court of Stars in preparation for full combat operations against them.

[X] Azel

@Goldfish, in that case the Alchemist is better used teaching more people to become Alchemists. Much better investment in the long run. Hopefully he accepts a Scholarum job.

  1. Sure.
  2. About the Court of Stars, could we handle that tomorrow please guys? There is a lot of world-building involved and I'm feeling a bit under the weather today on account of not sleeping well last night.
