We should go find the sword from the prologue and try it out. Who said the Master Sword can't be wooden in this universe?

Badly in need of another reread, quote about Mira the Wise's misadventure didn't even feel familiar ):

Thanks for the chapter!

Question for QMs: Was Fi able to detect anything occurring in regards to old magic when Seff vanished? I'd love it if we had the foundation to reverse engineer it.

Fi SOP
Now that we're back on SV, let's get our SOP back up and running!

This post is intended to give standard operating procedures for our character, Fi .

Credit goes to @Kurkistan for writing the original post.

Standard Operating Procedure for Fi:

Marked Interaction:
  • Respond to questions by using Telepathy or Intangible Avatar, whichever is more energy efficient.
    • Ex. If it's a complex question or one that's likely to have enough follow-ups that it's a lengthy discussion just use Intangible Avatar.
  • Abide by reasonable requests/commands for use of Fi's abilities or channeled Old Magic.
    • Abide by all requests/commands when a Marked's or Marked-candidate's life is in danger.
Energy Use:
  • Convert ~470.5VP to get about 400 MP stored in MP form. Between chapters, convert VP to MP to refill your reserve pool unless stated otherwise.
  • By default spend no more than ~50 VP per day per Marked on answering queries.
  • Don't spend more than half of VP reserves at Markeds' behest over the course of any given update
    • Override this if a Marked's or Marked-candidate's life is in danger.
  • Magic Power reserves can be spent up to their entirety.
  • Spend up to one tenth of our current VP on time-sensitive research related to old magic or Link's essence changes.
Fi-nitiative:
  • Spend MP reserves at at your discretion to prevent Marked from falling into magical exhaustion.
  • Fi-detector: Have Fi offer aid, advice, and insights to help navigate social interactions.
  • Warn Marked individuals if you perceive or anticipate some imminent calamity to which they are ignorant. Do this only if they're capable of taking action to prevent, ameliorate, or evade said calamity.
Specific directives within any given plan override these procedures as appropriate.
Definitions: Marked-candidate: Someone who we've recently expressed an intent to Mark as soon as Void Power is available to do so.

Since we don't appear to have any plans to vote for yet, I'll get the ball rolling on that.

[x] Plan - Disaster Mitigation

[Actions - Link]
* Head back to your sheikah group. Keep an eye open for the transfibulator if you don't have it on you.
* Exchange information with the sheikah group.
* Give your group explicit instructions not to Heal you, since you've been advised that it may cause permanent damage.
* Have sheikah scout the haunted area; see if still haunted.
* If the area appears to be clear of any hauntings, cautiously seek out Lucia. Also use the tablet to try to find old magic stuff.

[Actions - Zelda]

* Do not go out to the battlefield personally. Instead, find a military leader (priority order: Captain Izu, Wymar, someone else) and offer them a Mark of the Goddess in order to serve as a front-line champion with the blessings of the goddess. Fill this champion in on all pertinent details on what has happened to date.
* If Taetus and new champion approve, publicly announce new champion for morale.
* Relay information from Link's magic documents to high-talent red mages you trust; see if they can recreate Stasis.
* Confer with Taetus/Lensa/Shesan/new marked. See Meeting section below.
* Begin working on attempting to recreate elemental rods as a potential battlefield force multiplier against the Blin. Leverage any experts and books in the capitol, as well as any information you can find in Link's documents. See Rod/Imbue Research section below.

Meeting:
* Discuss Soulsteel. See if Shesan knows counters. Set up military action to capture Soulsteel weapon for reverse engineering.
* Discuss Blin shaman dream, their potential possession of a wisdom fragment, potential alliance. Discuss possibility of handing off power fragment to new marked for duel with third warlord.
* See if Shesan knows about Seff, given that he apparently is also an off-worlder and had strange magic. Relate how he disappeared; ask Shesan if she knows a way to reproduce his apparent teleportation magic.
* See if Shesan has any pertinent information on how imbuing for things like elemental rods might be done based on her knowledge of other types of magic. Apply to Rod/Imbue Research section if any applicable knowledge is available.

Rod/Imbue Research:
  • Skip any tests that make zero sense to Zelda as a result of her knowledge of how magic works, etc.
  • Attempt to draw on Blue Burst and Blue Imbue at the same time with the intent of creating an ice rod.
  • If this does not work, attempt to mix a Blue Burst with a Green Imbue and see what happens.
  • Attempt to imbue an item with all three colors of magic at once in a sufficient quantity that it would normally cause the item to glow and reach the state of conceptual improvement. See what happens.
  • If none of the previous methods have caused the creation of a new form of item, but also have not caused anything dangerous to occur, attempt a triple color imbue + Blue Burst on the same item if it is physically possible to do so.
  • If we manage to get a triple imbued item, but it doesn't seem to do anything different than a normal imbued item, attempt to power it with up to 50 VP to see if that does anything.
  • If we manage to get an item to hold both an imbue and a burst, but that doesn't make it into an elemental rod, attempt to power it with up to 50 VP.
  • If none of the mixed imbues work, attempt to power a normal imbued item with up to 50 VP and see if that does anything.
  • If any of the tests seem like they are noticeably working toward successfully making something like an ice rod, spend up to 500 VP to make a functional ice rod.
[Actions - Taetus]

* Coordinate with military leaders to ensure a successful retreat to Castletown.
* Ensure messages are sent to inform allies, such as the newly-settling Gerudo, that they may be in danger and may need to retreat as well.

Edit: Simplified certain plan elements, took the Blin shaman discussion from @Mathematicae 's plan, added other meeting discussion points.

So happy to have the quest back here in forum form! I hope to participate more from now on.

Great chapters. Definitely a rollercoaster. (I was honestly crushed when I thought Link had died —I didn't realize that the most likely possibility was Linkbosso possession—, and the next chapter has been super exciting.

Regarding the plan, I have two specific thoughts. Maybe they aren't very helpful (I'm not functioning at 100% right now), but they may spark some discussion.

First of all, Seff clearly hinted that Link needn't go back to Ibosso's mausoleum, even that he shouldn't. So, I'm unsure about whether to go back to find the team or not.

Secondly, do we have any logic for the multiple imbues and so on? I mean, does the idea come from previous discussion? It has been hinted by the QMs that arriving at some understanding of how the magic system works could be very helpful. Of course, if we don't have any understanding at all, the first thing to do is try things...

If we can get access to soulsteel to test against, should find out if imbued shields or swords work better against it? Very easy/cheap to try?

"Notably, any mundane object imbued with enough magic can deflect magic attacks." ~C3 Not sure if soulsteel counts as a magical attack in that sense.

Might be sort of thing we'd expect to find out by accident if it worked due to prevalence of imbued items on our frontlines, someone'd find out it worked and report back?

Don't think I understand the Total (All-Time) column on the points leaderboard. Total for my account (L----------) matches the current column on the other page, even though I've spent points ???

Did you know that if you add a negative number to a positive number, it results in a smaller number? Apparently Past!Vecht somehow overlooked this.

I'm going to remove that tab because I'm too lazy to go back through the logs and adjust all the totals manually it's confusing and doesn't serve any real purpose.

Good point. Alternate plan incoming. Link is staying put and a few modifications for Zelda. Clarify what we want the champion to do, nixing soulsteel recovery since it disappears when the blin wielder dies, and talking to advisors about the Blin shaman Zelda had a chat with the night before.

[X] Plan - Don't go (back) alone
[Actions - Link]
Sit tight for now, signal/contact Sheikah, wait for help. Check your stuff (is anything missing?). When they arrive, make sure you debrief each other thoroughly. Don't heal Link following Dr. Seff's expert advice.

If the area appears to be clear of any spooky ghosts, cautiously seek out Lucia. Also use the tablet to try to find old magic stuff.

[Actions - Zelda]
Mark a champion to duel and kill the 3rd Moblin warlord. Mark Izu or someone Laylith and Izu think would be better. (keep whoever it is on passive for the moment.) Make a public announcement that you have marked a champion with the blessings of Hylia to turn the tides in battle. (Have Taetus vet this idea first; if terrible, skip.)

Confide with Laylith, Taetus, and Shesan, that a Blin shaman was contacting you through your prophetic dreams. He claimed to have at least one Wisdom fragment (likely true given how he communicated with Zelda) and that the Moblin warlord might have a Power fragment. Apparently, Ganondorf gave the Power fragment to the warlord? Wasn't that impossible, Shesan? Could Taetus give his power fragment to our new marked champion to give him better odds?

Relay information from Link's magic documents to available Seekers and Sheikah; see if they can recreate Stasis or if there are other insights in the documents they were unaware of.

Begin working on attempting to recreate elemental rods (see rod research below). They brought out an ancient weapon? Two can play at that game! Leverage any experts and books in the capitol, as well as any information you can find in Link's documents.

See if it's possible for your troops to capture a Soulsteel weapon and bring it back to study.

Rod/Imbue Research:

[Actions - Taetus]
Continue coordinating the evacuation.

Something important that we should include in any of our plans: If he hasn't already, Link should inform Zelda that he *specifically interacted with an entity named Lucia.* Zelda should recognize this name from her conversation with Vestele in chapter 5, where they discussed whether there were any known Fae who weren't entirely malevolent:

"Not all of them appear to be malicious. We were saved by one once. One calling herself Lucia. You would know the event as 'The Reaffirmation.' At the height of the Gerudo Wars, she came to us claiming to be Hylia herself. And with her aid, we cast out the Gerudo. And their dark god."

Regardless of whether this connection influences our immediate plans, Zelda needs to know about it.

This not really usefull right now since link was iboso'd and so not accesible to fi but I just wanted to note here that depending on how fi's memory works she is likely to be able to reproduce future magical songs we encounter.

So basically next time we see seff/someone else use a magical ocarina we can try the song later(either in a magical instrument we might adquire, or in an imbued ocarina or whatever) ,even if our marked weren't able to pay attention to it.

This is an absolutely valid point. My interpretation was that Seff was emphasizing that Link's friends were safe and thus Link needn't be concerned with rushing off to find them while recovering from spiritual damage.

Given Link's mental health, I think actively doing something (e.g. riding off to find his friends and Lucia) is potentially a safer move than, say, trying to sleep and getting caught up in self-recrimination and/or nightmares. I think he'll rest better after reuniting with his friends, given his personality.

In addition, meeting with Lucia may be time-sensitive, and I'd like to handle that as quickly as possible while she may still be in the area.

I fully acknowledge that this is a higher risk move than staying put, but I think it suits Link's personality better than standing still.

This sort of logic feels... icky, but in this quest it seems we probably should be trying to nudge our characters towards things which make them better matches for the fragments, at least when it's safe?
Not sure this is one of the cases where it's safe enough to disregard Seff's push here, as usual don't have enough information. I get the feeling we should trust Seff there and read it as written: don't head back there, but I'm struggling to justify why I feel that way.

"There is more," Fi said, recapturing their attention with a twirl. "Zelda: you have an unparalleled mind, considerable ambition, and a deep compassion for your kingdom. You have have earned Nayru's favor, and have bonded with a piece of Wisdom. With her final act, Her Grace, the Goddess Hylia, has chosen you as her personal champion."
My read of this part is that Zelda's characterisation could have allowed her to bond with a Power fragment, however the way we played the quest pushed her to being too passive for that to work.
We're very fortunate to have Taetus around.

Does anyone know of a good way to link to a particular line in the story in context? That'd be pretty neat.

[Actions - Taetus]
Continue coordinating the evacuation.

(Various sheets worth of things for everyone else to do.)

"And Taetus, you will continue doing Taetus stuff to help with the evacuation and the current situation."
"... you aren't giving me a sheet filled with a neverending deluge of bulletpoints and subbulletpoints?"
"Nope."
"Excellent. I can work with this—"

*gets clubbed for making a joke that will inevitably be interpreted as QM faffing about implying implications unless I make the joke about getting clubbed oh wait uh—*

You can highlight the text on SV and click insert quote, which will autolink to the chapter as a part of the site's quoting function. I'm not sure if thats exactly what you're looking for, though.

Moral is going to be a serious problem. The Blin have little reason to fear death, given that they've already died and come back just fine. Hylian soldiers, on the other hand, will be filled with a deep sense of pointlessness having to kill these things again. Rework is the worst.

We might need Zelda on the front.

I mean, when a character that we know has a ton of information - both from an in-world standpoint and a meta standpoint - tell us that they advise something, I can see why you'd want to go with it. Moreover, many game runners use this sort of advice as a way of gently nudging players in a specific direction. So, this could easily be the QMs of the quest saying, "Hey, might not want to go that way," while giving us an in-character justification for it. I don't have enough knowledge of these QMs to say if that's their style, but I know some QMs have expressly done that sort of thing in other quests that I've followed.

My general playstyle is to say, "Nah, I hate cryptic advice, gonna do my thing". This may be incredibly foolish, but I also think it's the sort of attitude that fits a Captial C Courage style character like Link.

If Seff had advised us that it was a really terrible, high risk move, I'd probably lean toward following that. His attitude sounded more like, "you don't need to bother and this may be mildly inconvenient". My leaning is that going back is probably going to prove largely irrelevant - maybe they're already on the way to us, for example, and we could just rest safely. That said, I think Link is the type of character that is desperate to do something, and sitting around and waiting right after a (potentilly significant) failure sounds like a bad move for his already deteriorating mental health.

On the other hand Link's in bad shape physically. Like can barely walk bad shape.
