Fore Word: I want everyone to know that while I'm not against having fun and memeing in the thread, the story itself is going to be pretty serious. There will be a lot of funny moments because that's just the kind of guy I am and prefer to be, but I want you all to remember that in the end the tags are there for a reason.

The Galaxy is old. For the last ten thousand years, the Grand Empire has ruled almost sixty percent of the stars in the sky with an iron fist. Their Hegemony has held this galaxy in a state of "peace" shackled by fear of their power ever since their initial rise. Even their closest rivals, the Helgast Federation does not dare to challenge this overwhelming supremacy backed by millions of vessels and billions of soldiers. This galaxy, filled with almost a hundred species grinds itself steadily onward to the future.

And none of them know what species you are.

Your father found you in a capsule, lost among ruins older than the rest of the galaxy. He doesn't know why you were there, and there was nothing among those ancient bones to explain it for him, and nothing downloaded into your own mind that revealed anything either. You were a living enigma, and that alone was enough to turn you into little more than a commodity to the Empire.

And had your father been anyone else, your story would have ended there. Sequestered away into the nether, forever lost to the light of the stars as the Takers worked to find every secret your flesh held. But that was not to be, because your father was one who even they would hesitate to cross...

Alert: Story Integral Vote
(Story Integral Votes do more than decide what path your character will take. They shape the world around you into something else, and dictate the shape of the nightmare to come.)

[] [Father] Death Dealer
An Agent of Chaos and purveyor of the damned. Your father owns and leads the Paramilitary Group known as the Dealers of Death, or more simply "The Dealers". His integrity to his clients is only as firm as their coin purse and everyone knows it. They also know that one of the only PMCs that have their own battle fleet hold loyalty to their own as thicker than starblood. They have annihilated small star nations for having the audacity to place bounties on their own. And that's why even the Takers of the Empire have yet to try taking you: for your father's armada would chase them to the very core worlds to get you back.

[] [Father] The Lord of the South
A grand cog of the Empire. One of the great celestial engines of influence that move the unfathomable armies. He rules a thousand worlds in the name of the Emperor and with that duty comes influence. And influence comes power. And he knows that you're more than you seem. With his wife and heirs dead, you are his successor to the throne, even if it takes a thousand years for him to die. And he knows the Takers want you, even if angering him means a hundred worlds burn.

You
Your name is Anastasia Morev. Due to the shape of Dagenruff mouths, the former of the two is more difficult to pronounce so it is commonly left off your name. You were discovered on the world of Sanskrit, which is assumed to have been an ancient Builder colony that was a patron of the sciences, in a gestation Capsule normally used for cloning.

Growing up as the Princess of the Southern Reaches, you have grown used to being the smallest being in the room, which has left you with something of a complex about your height. As well as a deep insecurity about your looks, as you lack any form of body hair or fur unlike your Dagenruff contemporaries. You wear a modified version of the skin-suits that had been found among the Sanskrit ruins you were discovered in by your father.

Race: Unknown (Presumed Builder)
Age: 19
Height: 180cm
Weight: 75kg
Education: Fleet Academy, Helgast Border Realms (Graduated Top of your class.)
Lineage: Seekers of the God Vessel, Rulers of the Southern Reaches

Abilities:
Lord of Admirals - In stellar combat, predictions of enemy actions are revealed. You may issue specific commands to allied ships down to target zone for weapons.

  • Main Bridge Crew
    AD-331
Your Executive Officer and Second in Command, heir to the Noble House managing the Shetran Stream. Was second ranked in grades in the Academy, and most eligible Bachelor to walk the halls. Considered a political and military genius. Would have been the genius of the age if not for you. Likes peanuts.

    FC-0912
Your Flight Officer, and nominally third in command. A disinherited scion of a Core World noble house, famous among your class for blackmailing her parents into funding her schooling. Still on amazingly good terms with her younger brother who is the standing heir.

    88-BB-101
Your Primary Helmsman. The only bridge crew that isn't actually a noble. Son of a civilian merchant that spent his entire fortune to afford the political favors that allowed him into the Naval Academy's Main Officer Track in spite of not actually qualifying. Came in third where grades are concerned, but has a note that he does not have the emotional integrity to fight a Beast Infection effectively, which locks him out of most command positions permanently.

    EW-1717
Your Secondary Helmsman. Also the voice of reason among your class. You don't actually know whose family he belongs to, only that they're form the western fringe worlds. Is a wizard at Hateb, you haven't beaten him more than twice in a row.

    GH-708
Your Navigations Officer, and third in line for rulership of a minor noble house on the northern fringe. You don't know what their Purpose is, but you have confirmed that out of everyone from your graduation class, she had the worst all around grades. On the other hand, when it comes to stellar navigation there's no one you trust more. To the point you're sure if you gave her a half finished star chart and a compass she'd be able to point you directly at the Core Worlds without fail.

    OP-KL-1-1
Your Chief Engineer, eighth daughter of a Core World Noble House. You don't remember more than that and you're too embarrassed to ask. Not because she's technically of a higher standing than you, but because hers' is the only House you can't remember out of your entire class, so you just pretend you do remember.

    1344-RDK
Your Communications Officer. From a minor Noble House on the edge of Helgast space whose Purpose is to defend the border. Known for being hilariously bland in every aspect to the point of being a good go-to when a position needs to be filled temporarily. Was unwittingly used to facilitate an assassination attempt on the Lost Cause before you found Childhood's End, when Lord Mustafa blackmailed him with his family's debt in order to track the Lost Cause's progress.

    SPK-02
Your Science Officer. Scion of one of the lesser Noble Houses in the Southern Reaches. Loves learning new things. Also the last person you want to get into a fist fight with via personal experience, considering he's the one that taught you how to even form a psionic blade.

    Other Crew
    KL-0909090909
You childhood friend, and the Dagenruff you've known the longest aside from your father. A long serving member of the Southern Reaches' Lord's Guard, she has fought every known species in the galaxy, as well as a few that are now extinct for one reason or another. (Is currently suffering a Beast infection.

    KN-DRP1
Your main medical officer. You don't know much beyond that fact she was chosen by your father out of the Sothern Reaches' combat ship medical program, though chances are she served on his own vessel during his Search for Childhood's End. Is also aware of your origins as far as the Empire knows.

    HJ-7813DF
Squad G Marine, formerly of the Lost Cause. Known to be emotionally unstable when Civilians are concerned. Requested permission to remain under your command after the Sanskrit Incident.

    NMN-2084f
Squad J Marine, formerly of the Lost Cause. Current status unknown.

The Great Empire
Driven by a goal-oriented culture, the Empire is the largest individual nation in the galaxy. Their official name is "The Great Empire" named such after the Great Builders, the lost precursors that originally ruled the galaxy long before any of the current star nations ever came into power. They act as a force of order and stability, wielding their vast powers with a foreign policy best described as 'Don't make us come over there.'

The Dagenruff species was the first of the Great Empire, and the original founders. But over the course of what is known as the Great Expansion, another fifteen species were added through either outright conquest or willing assimilation. The original cultures of these species has been long since lost, but it is assumed they have radically altered Imperial culture in some form in order to cause what it is today to form.

Names

Names are seen as sacred among the Empire, and not something to simply be handed out or modified as convenient. Because of this, proper protocol is to call someone by their full given designation at all times unless permission from the individual is received directly with a minimum of five witnesses. If confronted for modifying an individual's name as an insult you must be able to cite the names of a least three witnesses of being given permission. If these witnesses are not produced, then massive social backlash is the least of potential consequences.

The only way around the Witness clause is for the individual in question to come to one's defense themselves, but that holds the risk of being seen as not having enough respect for their own name and being declared Nameless on some cases.

When a citizen of the Empire is born, they are issued a Number. How the Number is calculated varies wildly from planet to planet, but the core system is universal.

In order to gain a Name, one of two things must be done: either the individual inherits a name from a confirmed blood Ancestor, or they achieve a great feat that is recognized by a member of the Higher Nobility. Normally Sector Lords or greater. In rare cases though, it is possible for someone who already has a Name to achieve something impressive enough that a Lord gives them a second Name.

In truly exceptional cases though, individuals had managed a feat of such greatness that drew the attention of not only the Sector Lords who grant them a Name, but also a second Noble above the Sector Lord to choose a second name for them. Though both instances of this kind of achievement were given their second Name by the Emperor himself.

Nobility

The Nobility of the Great Empire tend to be Dagenruff houses, but Noble Houses of other species are known. If rare.

When a Noble House is given their titles, it comes with a goal that they are to pursue. The exact nature of the given goal is usually unique: such as finding a given location or object, or defeated a specific enemy. The fulfillment of the goal is also always up to the Noble House itself to figure out as well. Such as an enemy to defeat being done through either might of arms or diplomacy.

Noble Houses who take too long to complete their goal—usually exceeding four or more generations—come to be called "Lost Cause Houses", or Noble Houses whose purpose has come to be seen as a Lost Cause and thus impossible to achieve. By this point, it's normally expected for the Noble House to give up their granted titles and to surrender their Purpose, though there are no exact laws requiring such save for a direct command of the Emperor. Lost Cause Houses that refuse to give up their Purpose in order to continue pursuing their goal are heavily ridiculed among the other members of the Nobility as ridiculous and greedy for the power that their position gives them, causing any kind of political advancement to grind to a halt.

Dagenruff

The primary species within the Empire, and most common. An average Dagenruff is 250cm tall, and weighs 160kg. Every Dagenruff has a fur coating that covers their entire body that can come in a variety of shades from a pale yellow, to a deep black. Younger Dagenruff are also known to paint their fur in complex pictograms whose source ranges depending on the local customs and trends. Dagenruff clothing favors hardened leathers or thick cloths with metal inserts. Specific trends vary from colony to colony. Most Noble circles though favor wearing power armor modeled in archaic fashion.

Dagenruff are unique in the galaxy by being the only species to produce a dampening field when exhibiting Psionics. This renders them nearly impossible to mentally influence for more than short bursts, and incredibly difficult to scan for. This Dampening Field is also attributed for the reliability Imperial Vessels enjoy when traveling through the Hellscape, making it more difficult for the entities within to notice Dagenruff Vessels.

Nike, First Prince of the Great Empire, Second in line for the Throne
A brown Dagenruff who is also known as being on the short side, as well as being an old friend of Lord Sage of the Southern Reaches. He is well known for meeting the Lord Sage in the Helgast Border Realm's Fleet Academy, and subsequently following him on the failed expedition that lead to the discovery of Lady Anastasia Morev in the ruins of the Sanskrit colony. The failure of the expedition cost him his position as Crown Prince to his younger half sister Lady Apollo.

Apollo, First Princess of the Great Empire, Heir to the Throne
A grey Dagenruff who is known as being on the short side. A great patron of the Arts, Lady Apollo in known for already creating two Noble houses in an effort to stimulate creative freedom among the Empire. She is less known for being violently against corruption among the Noble Elite as demonstrated by her entire execution of the second of the two Noble Houses she had created for using kidnapped citizens for use in their "art projects".

Lord Sag
e
A grey Dagenruff. Ruler of the Southern Reaches, and seventh in line for the Search of the God Vessel. Known for setting a record low score for his graduation from the Helgast Border Realm's Fleet Academy. Originally married to JF-101, and Fathered JF-109, who both died during the Descus-Epyion Jump Incident. Also known for Adopting the potential Builder Clone Anastasia Morev during the failed Sanskrit Expedition for the God Vessel.

KL-0909090909
An Elite Guard to Anastasia Morev's noble house. A black Dagenruff. Known for having her eye gouged out with a plastic knife by the Lord Sage's adopted daughter Anastasia Morev. Was assigned as her personal guard a year later after the young Lady found her way onto the royal guard's training ground in the middle of a heavy weapons test. Is known for having violent reactions when surprised.

Lord Mustafa
A white Dagenruff. Lord of the Shetran Stream, and responsible for the completion of the Shatran Trade Road to connect the Helgast Border Realms to the Core Worlds. Father of AD-331. Known for being egotistical and obsessive over his House's political power to the point of actively attempting to control his Son's actions. Rumored to have murdered his wife for being rendered barren giving birth to their Son.

AD-331
A grey and white Dagenruff. Heir to the Noble House responsible for managing the Shetran Stream. Well known as being the most desirable bachelor in the Helgast Border Realm's Fleet Academy and tactical genius. Also known for being able to set an electric stove on fire by trying to boil water (See Incident Report D-17/f). Graduated second in his class, and voted class valedictorian with a 53% majority.

LC-U9 God Seeker "Lost Cause"

A customized Heavy Cruiser originally built in the royal Dagen-Rou dock yards on the Imperial Throne World for the express purpose of seeking out the last God Vessel of the Great Builders. Well known for being obsolete, the Lords Sage have spent a vast amount of resources on numerous modifications to the Lost Cause's sensor nets and engines, to make it deceptively fast and nearly impossible to sneak up on.

The Helgast Federation
Constructed on the founding ideal of "Everything in It's Place", the Helgast Federation is the second largest polity in the known galaxy. Relatively young by the standards of the other galactic superpowers, the Federation is well known for two things: their ability to adapt their fleets rapidly against any threat they face, as well as the unique Trans Gate System they use in place of Hellscape for long range travel. They are constantly looking for ways to get ahead of other powers with an openly known Foreign Policy based around what they see as their eventual galactic Hegemony.

The Helgast, sometimes also referred to Hellions, are the primary species of the Federation. Though it officially has more than a dozen member species, only Hellions have ever been seen in any kind of actual position of significant power. They are also known to extensively utilize psycho-indoctrination in order to control planetary populations and prevent civil unrest.

Indoctrination

A widespread practice throughout the Federation, it is commonly known that Individual planetary governments have developed an efficient method of presenting and introducing galactic History to their populations in such a way as to cement loyalty to the Federation above all else. Though it is widely speculated that this presentation is aided by wide spread psychic indoctrination machines but whether this is truth or not is unknown.
Helgast/Hellion

The primary species within the Federation, commonly found in all positions of Command. An average Hellion is 180cm tall, and weighs 80kg. Hellion epidermis is always some shade of blue, with eye colors commonly being black, grey, or green, with rare exceptions for other colors. (Out of the eighty Hellions you know; fifty have black eyes, twenty five have grey, four have a shade of green, and one has Red.) Almost all have black hair, and it is common practice for adolescent Hellions who have not yet attained a Command position to carefully tattoo bar codes on their faces. What they mean and why they do that is beyond you, and you have never been given an actual explanation or found one.

It is widely known that Hellion Psionics emit red fields.

Katetox Zeyuth
The only red-eyed Hellion you know of. Daughter of a planetary governor that was given to the Empire as a political hostage when she was a teenager, the two of you spent a significant portion of your shared formative years at the Academy. The time you both experimented with alcohol for the first time, you cloned her pet cat—a breed of Gililil, native to her homeworld and latently psionic named Little Bitchy—and the both of you somehow managed to molecularly fuse the cloned cat and original. Feeling guilty you had attempted to offer recompense and help in taking care of her cat but she refused and took it back with her to the Federation when her time as a Hostage was up. You're not sure if the whole incident has her infuriated with you or infatuated.

This is all based on the Built In The Heavens CYOA. I'm going to tell you right here and now that I am not telling you the core build used to frame this quest. So if anyone wants to ask, they can shove a lolipop or something. Even though I know for a fact people are going to ask anyway.

Sigh.

Feel free to start voting and asking questions in the hopes of me spilling something, which I kind of have a track record of doing.

Oh a quest for the Built In The Heavens CYOA, man I love that CYOA, well that and several others, because you can come up with any kind of starship ranging from organic space whales to biomechanical frigates, and so many others, though there are some pretty serious drawbacks now I'm looking back at them.

Oh right votes, ahhh.

Will have to edit a name later because I'm bad at names, also ch.

A minor reference to one of the few female Heroes in Slavic folklore, known for rescuing her bum of a husband via careful application of her natural super-strength to bullshit people and just plain cunning. Knowing how Heavenly ships tend to be, anything lacking in ship combat knowledge can be made up via other means.

So what's the build? :p

[X] Plan KHANNNNNNNNN

I'm voting for this because I frankly just dislike the female appearance picture. The quality feels amateurish.

Actually... hmm... What sounds better, Anastasia Mikulish or Anastasia Morev? I'm not sure whether to reference Vasilisa Mikulishna, the descendant of a Bogatyr whose most well known qualities include cunning and restraint, or Maria Morevna, a warlord and sorceress who managed to imprison the prototypical evil sorceror and Lich? Both sound fitting for a Captain of a Heavenly ship, but in different ways.
