[X] Action plan: A chain forged of gold

This is tough, because I do like both plans, but I think I would like the Minami conversation to happen first.

*dramatic gasp*
Joking aside, that's fair. I, personally, need more time to mull it over, since it seemsI've miscalculated just how intense the hatred that the Minami have for the Hyuuga is. It could be that, if the Porcupines decide to make this an ultimatum, the Minami will refuse to sign a summoner. I don't think they would, but I also see how they might, and my personal picture of their clan was just revealed to be drastically off. And since Vel's okay doing an interlude/flashback chapter for the Minami/Hazou discussion (it would take place, chronologically, before the Iron Mine Mission), I get to have my cake and eat it, too, as far as my own personal qualms go.

Also, friendly fire, if we're close enough that this could become a thing.

Not sure if you were joking or not, but you made a valid point.

  • In combat, avoid explosive seals due to possibility of a cave-in/friendly fire.

Not entirely happy with this but is the play we need to make. Suggestions are appreciated
[X] Action plan: A chain forged of gold

  • Continue the conversation with Minami.
    • Reassure her that the Hyuga aren't our friends, either.
      • Despite our beliefs in the WoF and everything we did for Leaf, Hiashi still considered us traitors.
      • Moreover, Hiashi schemed to take power from Jiraiya, culminating in an vote to take the Hokageship, which thankfully failed.
    • And yet...Jiraiya never responded in kind, either through the power of the Hokage or his own personal strength, despite his ability to do so and the threat to his family.
      • Why? For the greater good of Leaf. Jiraiya recognized that such actions, when Leaf was already reeling from its losses, would be catastrophic for Leaf's survival.
      • Invoke The Hokage (Was) My New Dad.
    • Once Leaf was safe, however...Jiraiya would certainly have acted. And so much the better, if Hiashi thought Jiraiya was too focused on Leaf to act against him.
      • This is what we want, as well. To create the proper moment to strike at an enemy while they expect you to be a non-threat to them.
    • Hypothetically...if our clan wanted to confront the Hyuga, we would have three paths to choose from:
      • The Kagome Path: Through explosives, death and destruction. Everything would burn.
        • Yet that would harm us and our allies, and weaken the Leaf.
      • The Mari Path: Smile and nod, take over the Hyuga's sources of revenue, Seventh Path or otherwise, and render them destitute.
        • This is what happened to the Kobayakawa Clan, by the Mori.
        • It's certainly effective, and would not harm Leaf as badly as the Kagome Path. Yet the Hyuga are still ninja of Leaf, and so harm would still be done.
      • My Path: Turn Neji into an ally by surrounding him with people he must work with and who can make him see your point of view. And eventually, the Hyuga heiress and her sister.
        • The ultimate goal? To make them not-Hyuga, something that retains what makes them strong but without the cruelty which makes them hated so.
        • Our team is already acting this plan, by having Keiko... 'train' Lady Hanabi.
        • Invoke Creative Idealist.
    • As the Minami Clan's Summoner, you are a keystone to making the Hyuga realize their foolishness, and we ask that you walk this path with us.
    • And if you don't? We will still work with you, and walk this path to change the Hyuga, and welcome you with open arms should you decide to join us.
    • Don't press Minami on an answer now, let her know we will wait for her decision.
@Oneiros Here's my attempt at a rewrite of your plan. Feel free to do whatever you want with it.

*grumbling under breath* Man this went from third person to first person to third person, so bad

I'm extremely reluctant to do that because it might draw Orochimaru's personal attention towards Hazou --something we're not strong enough to handle just yet. A worse possibility is that, since we'd be openly using his reputation for our personal gain, such a ploy might irritate Orochimaru. He doesn't play politics, and this could be seen as Hazou either trying to draw him into "useless political games," or piggybacking off of Orochimaru's reputation --something he keeps sharp and ever-utilized towards "don't bother me" ends, much like Tsunade.

Remember, Orochimaru is a less political animal than even Tsunade. The extent of his politicking has thus far been "give me this, or else" or "leave me alone, or else." He uses his political power and his reputation like sludgehammers, because he doesn't need subtlety. Even Asuma is quietly terrified about Orochimaru. Tsunade loves the Leaf and wants to further humanity's overall health. No one knows why Orochimaru returned, or why he's staying. If we poke the sleeping dragon, we will be munched on and all the other knights will be forced to watch and do nothing, under pain of the same.

It'd also add too much wordspace to an update that we want to primarily dedicate to the Iron Mine Mission (I suspect that it would be too complex to have as an offscreen thing).

We know why he came back. We told his student to join us or we'd blow up decades of his work at the same time we told him that it was safe to return.

He doesn't really care about his reputation. It's already being used as by Leaf as a deterrent. He is a perfectly sociopathic rationalist. At least in theory, he is the single most predictable character in the entire setting. Offer him something he wants and ask for what we want. Now, what could we offer to the guy with a summoning scroll and an intense interest in distant seventh path goods and skills?

Also, friendly fire, if we're close enough that this could become a thing.

Speaking of fire, we're going to need to make sure to have tunneler's friend seals equipped at all times and a line of substitution targets all the way out. Asphyxiation is a major and sneaky hazard in mines even without fire and mine fires can get unbelievably, "melt the rocks", hot very fast.

This is me, clearly stating that I am observing a Lailoken in the wild. The memetic defense seems to be ineffective at the moment.

Jokes aside, this should go into one of the next couple plans almost verbatim.

That Sasquatch cheated me.

I'll add it in a bit. Eating dinner right now

Actually I like the @faflec rewrite and just switched to it

[X] Action plan: A chain forged of gold

I'm going to take a look at the plan again in the next few hours, maybe trim some words or something. Nothing major.

As per @Lailoken's suggestions, an escape route has been added to the plan. Quick question, @faflec, did we ever recreate those rebreathers?

[x] Action Plan: Dogs and Dungeon Crawling
Words: 250
  • Off Screen
    • Arrange an escort mission for a Koi expert (with more guards than necessary to prevent sabotage)
      • Check with Asuma for approval before submitting it, agree to his input
    • Complete the Chakdar seal before departing.
    • Restock on seals, bringing an excess of every type
    • Suggest that Noburi wear his chakra-megalodon jacket (provided it gives a boost to stats)
  • Enable Dungeon Crawl, with Candoru scouting ahead along the way there
    • Approach the mine cautiously
    • Summon remaining Combat Summons and Shadow Clones before we get there
      • Ask Summons if they sense any threats
      • Have Candour scout out the land around the mine
      • Whenever possible, use Shadow Clones and Summons in combat
    • Clear the land around the mine, sealing the lumber inside storage scrolls as we go
      • If Candoru isn't challenged by this, use Summons and Shadow Clones to direct beasts toward him, specifically
    • Have Candoru do the exploration of the mine by himself, scouting ahead as much as possible.
      • Once Candoru gives up/the summons get impatient, send in the remaining summons to help him.
        • We're trying to get Candoru to admit he needs help.
    • Once clear/summons need help, maintain vigilance (ninjas and summons both) and cautiously enter the mine.
  • In combat, avoid explosive seals due to possibility of a cave-in/friendly fire.
  • Once inside, make sure to have tunneler's friend seals equipped at all times and a line of substitution targets all the way out.

Can be simplifed: With Asuma's approval and input, arrange heavy escort mission for new Koi expert ASAP

The...Tunneler's Friend seals?
*Facepalm*
Yup, sorry. For some reason I swapped them in my head with the Heavenly Purifier seals. Sorry, thanks.

Thanks! Updated and changed, cutting the word count back down to 221 :)

Tunneler's friend and purifier are complimentary: one provide air, the other purify the gases so we don't breathe in poison. We should have both equipped.

@Oneiros Minor changes, mostly decreasing the word count to 399 words, adding links for QM convenience, and polishing some stuff I missed ("Jiraiya was too focused on Leaf's well-being"). I do not believe anything major has been affected.

@RandomOTP Could you please add a line saying that we celebrate Noburi's birthday before we leave? It's in ~5 days, which makes me think it'll be around the time we finish chakdar and leave for the mine.

Done and done! Honestly, I'm glad you caught that, it would have sucked to have missed that!

May I also suggest Noburi employ mass chakra drain (?Mist drain?) so that we can keep using Summons and Shadow Clones? I know it's what we did for the Fifth Event, but it's not stated in the plan...

How does this look?
Edit: also made minor word/grammar edits to reduce word choice
