Wasn't the Collapse your idea? You could have had Hiashi have his secret nightly meeting with Anko and have him survive. But no, now we have the reasonable Hokage and have to feel bad about the treason we are and will commit!
I miss friend Hiashi.
That'd be too late by then! Screw it.
[x] Ask Orochimaru to lengthen your hair. Can he make it prehensile and poisonous, while he's at it?
Seems like a fun thing to do, not to mention that once we grow it out, we can mess with Ami a little.
Essentially, yeah. Konoha's down to like 20 Jounin from 50, but those numbers will recover in a year or two, max. The advantage of high turnover is that no one effect lasts very long.
EJounin and essies, otoh, are the epitome of low turnover, better described as average years before one shows up (and likely often clustering a la Sannin), so while a dozen dead Jounin can be recovered from in a year, a dead EJounin/essie is years and years of setback.
Oh right, speaking of hydrology maps we're going to need maps of every aquifer, lake, and river near Leaf and other major villages for our next project. Having Shadow Clones and MEW allows us to start blocking off the water sources for enemy villages in order to defeat them by drastically reducing their water supply and forcing their civilian populations to move elsewhere. Once that happens, their economies will collapse and we'll have a major advantage against them.
Naturally, we'll also need to know Leaf's water sources too, so that we can prevent this from happening to us in turn.
For similar reasons, we'll also need to know the exact geological whereabouts of any salt deposits in the area of Leaf, as well as the precise location of each farm in Leaf.
I'm joking. You can put the grue down now, Eaglejarl.
So we can invite Ami to braid each other's hair.
This is not an euphemism for anything. It really is thatstupidamazing.
Interlude: Non-Identical Twins
Keiko's birthday party was drawing to a close. The gifts had been delivered, Pandā had been emphatically dismissed, the mysterious pet had been taken away in its armoured container, and most importantly, they were running out of cake. But there was one surprise still in store, and this one wasn't for Keiko.
"If I may have your attention, please," Keiko said. "I honestly would rather be doing this under different circumstances, if at all, but there is a case to be made that this is her celebration as well, and so..."
She put her hands together reluctantly. "Shadow Clone Technique!"
The hall fell completely silent.
The last time Keiko had used this technique, it had resulted in a brutal verbal beatdown that had left her practically catatonic, and it had taken triumph in the face of horrifying certain death to give Keiko the courage to face her loved ones again. For her to use it of her own free will on her birthday…
"Long time no see, people! Did you miss me?" came the completely un-Keiko-like greeting in Keiko's voice.
"Snowflake," Hazō said quietly.
The shadow clone stepped forward. Keiko watched her alertly.
"So I've got an apology to make," Snowflake said after a few seconds with a much more familiar awkwardness. "I may have overdone it a little when we first met. I guess that must have been pretty awful to see, and I didn't mean to catch any of you in the crossfire. Or rather, I didn't care, which is probably worse."
Hazō opened his mouth. Snowflake quickly raised a finger.
"Sorry, bro, but let me get this out. Kei's been neglecting Shadow Clone Technique training in favour of our girlfriend, which I guess I can't completely blame her for, but it does mean I haven't got long."
Snowflake took a deep breath.
"Thing is, being me—Snowflake me, not Kei me—isn't all it's cracked up to be."
She looked directly at him, as if taking him as a representative of the gathering.
"Imagine if your personality stayed the way it is now, but your memories magically got replaced with those of a Hazō who grew up in the Kurosawa Clan and bullied civilians every chance he got because that was the natural thing to do. You'd feel sick, right? Well, imagine what it's like to wake up as a healthy, normal person with proper agency, but every memory you have is telling you that you're a passive, helpless, useless little girl. Is it any wonder I wanted to hurt the person who made me feel that way?
"I can't accept those memories. I couldn't if I wanted to, because they're all tainted with the Frozen Skein, running through Kei's every thought and action like gleaming steel thread through a tapestry. I can't look at that and pretend those are the things I would have thought or said or done. And that… doesn't leave me with very much."
"We have an accord of sorts," Keiko said as Snowflake fell silent. "Snowflake requires additional personal experiences for the purposes of self-differentiation and development of identity. I have been providing these. She, in turn, has been cooperating with my daily activities rather than attempting to rebel against her creator."
"How does that work, exactly?" Hazō asked diplomatically, in lieu of explaining to all present exactly why what Snowflake was saying made no sense. "I mean, shadow clones don't have their own identities. Every time you use the technique, you create a new copy of who you are right now."
Snowflake shrugged. "Simple. Kei can't understand my thoughts, not all the way, because the Frozen Skein stops her from thinking the way I do. Recalling a memory means recreating it in your mind, and she can't recreate having initiative. That means there will always be parts of my memories that I can access but she can't. Memories that are special to me. Every time she uses the Shadow Clone Technique, she creates a person with the same unique memories, and they don't change just because she's had more experiences on her own since."
"It's still a new person," Hazō objected. "One Snowflake gets dispelled, and then later another one gets created."
Snowflake smirked. "And how does that make me different from you?"
"What?"
"Every night, someone with Hazō's memories goes to sleep. Every morning, someone with Hazō's memories wakes up. Sometimes, the Hazō who wakes up has new ideas the old one didn't. Sometimes he's come up with a solution to a problem the old one couldn't. Sometimes something that was really stressful for the old Hazō doesn't seem like a big deal to the new one. Who's to say that the body doesn't just hold on to the memories and generate a new Hazō from them whenever it wakes up?"
Hazō felt a fascinating philosophical debate coming on, but it was interrupted by a completely unexpected thought. Something about the rhythm of Snowflake's words was familiar in a way it shouldn't have been, given this was only their second meeting.
"Snowflake, is you not identifying with Keiko's memories the reason you're trying to talk like Ami?"
Snowflake froze. "What? I'm not—"
She stopped. After a few seconds, she looked down at the floor.
"Oh. Well. That sure explains a few things."
"Don't worry," Ami said sympathetically. "You get used to it."
Snowflake sighed. "Well, it beats talking like my dictionary-swallowing original there. Has Kei ever told you how unnerving your sudden bursts of insight can be sometimes?"
"Mostly she expresses disbelief at how dense I am," Hazō admitted. "I take it as her way of showing affection."
"Speaking of which," Snowflake turned away from him, "Big Sis, a personal thanks from me for the gloves. I already know how the three of—"
Snowflake disappeared in a puff of smoke.
"I believe all the salient points have been covered," Keiko said with finality. "Would anyone like Snowflake's share of the birthday cake?"
Honestly, all the hype about telescopes is a little infectious. Provided you don't do anything crazy --punch Orochimaru in the face, be cruel to an Uplift member, propose marriage to Lee, etc --I'll precommit to your next plan that involves telescopes. I'm honestly kinda curious as to where this'll go. Who knows, maybe the moon is really the empty husk of a sealed Outer Being?

We make a microscope and can see grains of sand, really small particulate matter and stuff, but there are no cells! No bacteria, no microorganisms, the "spirits" theory of disease is true.Honestly, all the hype about telescopes is a little infectious. In the real world basically everything is on top of an aquifer. Because they are basically everywhere.Oh, good, OOC confirmation that Konoha is built upon an aquifer facilitating RockFall, which actually makes sense given its abundance of hot springs, which implies that RockFall could have been tectonically worse- I'm going to just assume that you're calculating the biowarfare effort to the North because I tend to get yelled at for "giving the GM ideas!"
He's already our Eternal Rival (TM).
Depends on where we're going and what sort of information we get from follow-up Summoning discussion (i.e., the Otter's response). If we get some actionable information we could go earlier, but if we don't we may want to wait for at least the next tier of stuff to go.Since we are pretty much free from any obligations we will be able to go on another scroll hunt. What are the minimum amount of things that people would want to acquire before people would be comfortable go hunting? Mine currently are SC 20, improved casino seals and a tracker dog.
Like Faflec said, I think that it largely depends on where our hunt leads us and what information we get towards that end. I'm personally thinking that we should at least secure Hazou and Noburi's positions as Summoners, finish the casino seals, and --after leveling it up --train with the SC in a low risk combat setting. Not to mention whatever surprise encounters (social or otherwise) that might crop up while we work on our preparations.Since we are pretty much free from any obligations we will be able to go on another scroll hunt. What are the minimum amount of things that people would want to acquire before people would be comfortable go hunting? Mine currently are SC 20, improved casino seals and a tracker dog.
So...what's Hazou/Kagome's opinion on how difficult the seal would be to learn? @eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhailOnce again, Hazō had wanted a top-secret conversation with a clan mate and once again that had meant significant effort. Specifically, traveling two hours from Leaf, then tunneling a hundred feet underground, then sealing the tunnel shut behind them with a dozen feet of granite walls courtesy of the Multiple Earth Wall, then setting up Air- and Earth Domes, and finally cloaking the area within the effect of an anti-Byakugan seal. The last were a limited resource, made by the now-dead Jiraiya, with no more to be had once the current supply ran out. The fact that Hazō was choosing to expend one now said how serious he was. The fact that he had spent fourteen hours breaking his brain against Lady Tsunade's exhausting training on how to be a Summoner, then called Akane to follow him on what would be at least a four-hour round trip, said even more.
Ebisu is an outlier case of special Jounin. Special Jounin are formally 'As good as Jounin in a very specialized respect, and thus can be sent on Jounin missions', and in the rosters they count under Jounin.
5 specialized jonin (T&I, Yamanaka, Logistics, Kabuto in Medical)
Hm... sure. I'll extend the precommitted vote to any reasonable plan that involves getting a telescope, as long as you don't do anything too insane (like out-Youthing Lee, burning down Tsunade's home, or wooing Sasuke) or mean/cruel (like insulting Mari, humiliating Keiko, or disparaging Kagome)*. If it's more than one or two action plans in the future, though, you might have to remind me. I'm packing up my stuff and, in a few weeks, going to move across the country. So I might forget, simply because my life's about to get very crazy --hopefully in a good way. What about precommitting to vote for general plans that involve telescopes?
Hm... sure. I'll extend the precommitted vote to any reasonable plan that involves getting a telescope, as long as you don't do anything too insane
*toasts my hot coco*PSA: Tomorrow has family obligations and I'm feeling a little run down regardless. My current plan is to write a CftG update or something equally fluffy, leave voting closed, and let @Velorien take the update on Thursday.
Twin Repulsion Seals: When both are active, they repel each other when they get too close.
Have fun and don't stress on our account!PSA: Tomorrow has family obligations and I'm feeling a little run down regardless. My current plan is to write a CftG update or something equally fluffy, leave voting closed, and let @Velorien take the update on Thursday.
Have ropes for it so they can keep a hold of it as well, as a secondary measure.I'm well behind on the thread, so apologies if already discussed, but in terms of transporting the pups this could be super useful.
Put the pups on a platform of some sort with curved sides, position the adult dogs on each side with a Repulsion Seal matched (at an angle) to its corresponding seal on the curved section, each adult dog approaches their side simultaneously and the platform should be repulsed into the air. The continued presence of the adult dogs with their seals should keep the platform aloft, stable, and matching their speed as they run.
You know, I've been thinking about the subject of trust lately. Mostly because of Keiko's revelation that she's part of an Illuminati group dedicated to preserving the world and guarding it from malicious Outer Beings that have been sealed away. Keiko has other obligations, other responsibilities, and one day may need to betray our trust as a result. However, knowing Keiko as we do, we know that she would never, ever, do such a thing lightly. And she would only ever do it if were the only option, or if it were legitimately the best option. Like Hazou said, "trust can be rebuilt."
I think that we can trust Ami, at least with the less valuable op-sec stuff. We know her well enough to know that she's on our side, and that we're her friend and that she's ours --well, as we define the term, rather than how she defines it. Knowing what we do about her, I think that we can safely assume her Ultimate Goal is at least somewhat benevolent, especially since it doesn't openly contradict Uplift.
At some point I'd like to do two things along these lines. 1) ask Keiko if Ami can be trusted. To ask Keiko to take a mental step back and, objectively, give us her opinion on this. We might also want to ask Snowflake, if only because it would make the scene that much more interesting. 2) tell Ami what we told Mari, minus our deductions about the Forbidden Five. That the very fabric of reality is an existential threat to humanity and that, if something isn't done, our species will eventually be thanos'd. On the off chance that she doesn't already know, we get an ally against the Out. If she already does, then we still get an ally against the Out. Existential (or would it be ontological, in the case of the Out?) Threats are great for uniting people.
And it's worth mentioning Ami is very much NOT on the side of the Mori, so even if she deduces that we know about the Forbidden Five, I find it very unlikely that she'll try and go after us for it. She knows that we're on the same side because, if nothing else, uncaging an Outer Entity would also burn Uplift to the ground.
Besides, Yuno knew and she only seemed to get a very, very stern talking to about op-sec from the Nara, who are actually allied with the Mori in more than name.
Minor quibble: we have evidence that our goals intersect, for now. There's no hiding that Ami's invested a lot into the AMI and KEI, and those two organizations are collectively rooted in highly liberal thought and inter-village cooperation, very similar to our own highly liberal thoughts involving inter-village cooperation.
The key difference is that Ami is not aligned with us for our sake, or with our actual goals. If there comes such a point where Ami's goals require inciting conservative and xenophobic thought, then she will flip 'away from our side' very easily because she does not define herself along our axis.
Consequently, I trust Ami as an ally of convenience, not as a true ally. This isn't as bad a situation as it sounds, though, as until and unless our goals ever properly diverge there's much to be gained by working with Ami to advance both of our goals.
(My best estimation of Ami's end-goal, taking over the world, isn't even strictly opposed to our own goals. A world ruled by Omnikage Ami is a world not tearing itself apart by world wars, and if Hazou and Ami are allies of convenience all the way up to the top it's likely that we'll be in position to implement Uplift for the good of Ami's Empire. This sort of end-state I would consider a win condition, imo)
He would not be able to precisely replicate the move with the Iron Nerve, but his basic skill at taijutsu would improve. Mechanically, the Shadow Clones generate XP when they train and Hazō can use that XP to buy whatever he wants. Check post #2 for a link to player-known jutsu; it includes the SC and how training works. And a quick question - Hazou's SC memories don't get recorded with the Iron Nerve, do they? Like if his clone practiced Taijutsu, dispelled, and he got the memories, he couldn't replicate it because his muscles connected with the Iron Nerve haven't physically done them, correct?
