Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
This distinction does not exist as the techs are currently written, in context of the mechanics. Black Mirror is simply better. For everything. A B rank tech that can stop A rank and lower techs is simply not susceptable to being overcome by another B rank tech. The tech even mitigates the effects of S rank techs, for god's sake.

You're confusing how you think it ought to work with how it does work.
This is how it has always worked. We had these discussions back with Deepwood. If you throw an armor-negating attack against a perfect block then they cancel out and it becomes a regular stat contest, depending on tech ranks.

Black Mirror is a quasi-dispel cheat, not really a slab of armour. It doesn't care how much damage is incoming or what form it takes.

This is saying that "memory is just a teller of tales. Self is the story".
as in, don't trust memory to find truth. Find truth from the self.
We're Sincerity. Memories can be sincere but still just tales

A story without its teller is just a useless secret known by noone.

a useless secret known [only to Hidden Moon]
fixed that for u hehe :3

(one of her myths is that she keeps a Ledger of the lives and deaths of every human, and that ledger is where the secrets like FVM are stored when there shouldn't actually be any memory of the event at all, because nobody was present but the artist who ends up dying alone)

That's the sort of thing that start running into hard conflicts with our Argent Mirror insight pretty darned quickly.

Welp, RIP archery, unless we can somehow manage to get a Dance Art for it. Which I can actually see... but not as a sniper thing or an 'unnoticed from ambush' thing. RIP.

Makes sense thematically as a tradeoff - I wanted Archery to plug a hole that is precisely now officially a Way penalty: we cannot both be a spiritual murder machine distorting space around us AND make full use of physical world-as-it-is exploits. Fair.

Now, melee weapon Dance arts write themselves, I'm just noting. Guandao, anyone? :3

[X] The self is a story, and memory is the teller of tales.

Looks like a lost cause, but I'll still officially note that I like the bard insight for Ling Qi, and I agree with the reading that using "story" and "tale" like that probably means they are not synonymous. On the other hand, it would be clearer if it was "a teller of tales"...

Meh, whatever.

I'm glad west wind won thematically, skeptical towards the mechanical change. It's true we never used the old effects, but... the new ones are kind of meh for a supposed "bonus".

This really resonates well with Ling Qi's own experience and her misremembering of her own childhood. It's been argued that understanding memory and thus the self as malleable is a dangerous insight. I disagree on the basis that she already experienced this - and accepting this understanding functions more as a cautionary tale (hah). This might become important the more she tangles with the Dream. Remember how some spirit tried to compel her into a contract her after she performed the first Dream Step? Her Way allowed her to dodge that danger. However, a dream spirit specifically attacking her memory instead of directly compelling her? She would've been defenseless against such an approach (apart from general spiritual defense). The Insight doesn't include an answer to that sort of danger - but it should help.

Additionally taking this Insight into her Way might also help with understanding others. Taking sincerity as the way by which others are measured, that expands to an understanding that memory and perhaps the lens through which those memories are viewed vary for others. I know I'm reaching here, but the hope is that Ling Qi could start overcomes her rather insular ways.

Lastly is Ling Qi's attachment to CRX. Especially as CRX view on reform and vision is one that originates from an ideal state while seeing the reality as one that doesn't measure up. Here Ling Qi could offer an understanding of the culture of the Emerald Seas; its people and history. She already finds herself pushed into the role of a diplomat - and as diplomat understanding history or rather the collective memory and self of a group of people is essential. Hah. Yeah I know I'm really stretching it with this last part. Ling Qi is no historian at all. But I do think Insights that let her peek over the edge of her monkeysphere are quite needed. Does this Insight offer that? Eh, not really. But it's a start.

You know with Dreamstep, any dance art that has purely physical effects is better than those with a mix of spiritual and physical effects. It's basically having your cake and eating it too.

Did no one going to mention that LFWT now have 9 steps instead of 8?
Also a shame that I was out of city exactly for that vote. East Wind sounds like fun and more in tune with LQ's personality.

I'd prefer to avoid moving closer to handling people as iterations on narrative archetypes.
Because our best friendships were built on subverting that.
