On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] [Battle] Join Otrek: You entrust your weapon's safety to the Huskarls and Master Runesmiths guarding it. You are no prodigious fighter, but your Runes and if need be, your axe, will be useful regardless. Otrek and the King of the Skies will need all the help they can get.
[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator: Use it, train it on Kholek, though it will mean it won't be firing at the other Dragon Ogres present, and must still hit Kholek. +70 to Hit on Kholek, you won't see these rolls but +35 killing Dragon Ogres.

Trust our fellows. If the Daemons are able to reach the Bolt Throwers where they are, so far behind enemy lines, then there is no hope whatsoever. Believe in our people and our fellow Runesmiths, and stride forth to fight beside our King.

The Suneater falls, here and now!

Presumably when we made the Hold just as threatening, if not more so, than the Hold that made "Dynasty of Dynamic Alcoholism" create it.
Ah, speaking of "Dynasty of Dynamic Alcoholism", damn shame we don't have any of those friendly Ogres to defend our siege engines. Those guys would smack down anything before it could get past em.

Speaking of big, bulky, artillery defenders, I have an idea. With the growing number of enchanted siege engines, I think we ought to create a golem dedicated to the defense of these siege engines. We could make it so that it could grapple any fast and slippery beast and throw back into range for our ballistia (not the name, but they'll always be that in my book) to wreck 'em.

Mmm...yes, there is little reason to put the secret weapon out in the open right when they're approaching and have something of a clear line of sight. Otherwise Otrek wouldn't bother planning on having the shot taken when he and the rest have distracted Kholek.

@soulcake will the Bolt Thrower with Dragon's Spite be under the aegis of the Silver Wyrm Banner?

Ah, I see. Whelp, the weapon won't be exposed, so lets go with Otrek.

We can always find a second shot, we can't find a second Otrek.
Unless Otrek has fully dropped the ball when it comes to training Gloin, the prince should be ready to take his father's place as leader of the Hold. Meanwhile, we have a single bolt which to slay Kholek. Anything that raises it odds of actually hitting the suneater is worth taking given how everything relies on it successfully doing so.

We'll have to add it to the list of shit that needs to be done.

Thankfully after this kerfuffle we should have a reasonably open schedule. No projects that need to be done, no commissions, and no apprentices we have to constantly hound into something resembling decent workmanship.

Of course we have research projects out the ass, but that's just life as a Runesmith.

One could argue that increasing the distractions Kholek faces raises those odds...

[X] [Battle] Stay by the Bolt Thrower: you'll guard the siege engine firing Dragon's Spite with the Group of Huskarls and Runesmiths assigned to the task, making sure no sabotage or destruction can come upon by tricksy daemons. It means you aren't close enough to aid Otrek with your weapons OR your runes.

Yes why wouldn't it? Be a bit weird for the Dawi to move the Bolt Thrower theyre using to kill the super monster OUT of range of the ancestral aegis.

[X] [Battle] Stay by the Bolt Thrower
[X] [Thrower] The Retaliator

Ultimately, I believe that the Bolt Throwers will contribute more to the fight than we could. As concerning as it is to see others fight without us in the mix, Snorri isn't a peerless fighter and I feel his best role is to make absolutely sure that nothing interferes with the Bolt throwers and their very important mission of making Kholek's life very miserable.

I trust that the adamant armor we made for King Otrek will be sufficient to keep him alive, and I trust that the King of the Sky's mobility and regeneration will be sufficient as well.

Random thought here, but it'd be a real damn shame if some minor daemon just jumps in front of the bolt. Thankfully we got that magic artiftact to throw that out of wack, right?

Soulcake, tzeetch won't see this one coming, right?

Fighting with Otrek also raises the odds though, as it makes it easier to distract. It's a question of where the most impact lies, personally I think guarding the bolt thrower is likely to be low impact, as I think an assault on it would be very hard to even reach it, let alone damage it. Not to mention they need to figure out it's special enough to merit such in the first place.

I feel it is best to go all in on the bolt.

Even if it did it's almost obligated to fuck itself over somehow. One daemon would go to jump in front. And then another feathery shit will pull it down because it wants to jump in the way. Continue infinitely and you have damn near the effectiveness of Tzeentch's plans.

My biggest worry is Chaos is going to pull its usual BS and potentially threaten the throwers. Its why I voted to have Snorri stay and guard them, on the off-chance such a thing happens. Given how important it is, better safe then sorry. Plus, Otrek will have our master helping out on the battlefield.

The four main gods of Chaos are fully invested in this incursion, so I would give them decent odds of figuring out something is up.
