We could only check for pearls near the islands, that is something we would have to do once we arrive not while we are traveling. Why do no one want to look for pearls? It cost us nothing, checking whether any clams we control have pearls, would be automatic once we decided to do it, and we can certainly use the income.
Not really, whenever we pass over somewhere shallow enough our range reaches the seafloor, it's a simple matter of checking the input from our power, to determine if there's any clams with pearls, if there are, we command the clams to open up, and send a crab or lobster, to grab the pearl and bring it to us.We could only check for pearls near the islands, that is something we would have to do once we arrive not while we are traveling.
The world market is fucking big, we aren't going to crash it just by selling what we collect along the way, sure if we found a billion pearls and sold them all at once, we would devalue pearls, but why would we even want to sell that many pearls? We don't need that much money, selling a few hundred or a few thousand pearls, is barely going to be a blip on the radar as far as the world market is concerned, the worlds pearl divers gather more than that every day, yet selling that amount of pearls, is enough to get us a very nice profit.Do that enough times in the market will come crashing down leaving pearls to be very useless. Also, we are pirates and thus any material wealth that we have will automatically be assumed to be stolen and therefore a lot harder to make use of. Grabbing any Clams or mussels to stick onto the bottom of our boat to have them breed and be used as a means of attacking and scuttling enemy ships would be a good idea though.
When do you expect us to get somewhere shallow enough to be less than half a mile deep while in between islands? Not really, whenever we pass over somewhere shallow enough our range reaches the seafloor, it's a simple matter of checking the input from our power, to determine if there's any clams with pearls, if there are, we command the clams to open up, and send a crab or lobster, to grab the pearl and bring it to us.
At random times, the ocean isn't a uniform level, there's lots of underwater mountains, reefs, and just general places where land is only a few hundred meters below the surface, the ocean floor is no more flat than the surface is, there's entire island sized stretches of ocean, that's only a few meters deep, sure it's probably only something like 1-2% of the ocean that's shallow enough, but considering the Strawhats sail at least dozens of miles each day, and Taylor range stretches out a fair bit, that mean that she should have something between 0.5 and 2 Square miles of ocean floor within her range each day, that's enough to find a fair amount of pearls. When do you expect us to get somewhere shallow enough to be less than half a mile deep while in between islands?
Aren't there places in One Piece that are hundreds of miles deep, though?
I think you are overestimating her range and underestimating how fast she would be out of range of any particular clam. She is very unlikely to find any water shallow enough to actually reach with her powers, and it is even less likely that are also shallow enough that they stay in her power long enough to tell something to retrieve it. Retrieval is something that would only be feasible near islands where they can wait for the slow moving things to actually bring them up.At random times, the ocean isn't a uniform level, there's lots of underwater mountains, reefs, and just general places where land is only a few hundred meters below the surface, the ocean floor is no more flat than the surface is, there's entire island sized stretches of ocean, that's only a few meters deep, sure it's probably only something like 1-2% of the ocean that's shallow enough, but considering the Strawhats sail at least dozens of miles each day, and Taylor range stretches out a fair bit, that mean that she should have something between 0.5 and 2 Square miles of ocean floor within her range each day, that's enough to find a fair amount of pearls
Then she only collect pearls when there's a big amount of them, Nami is certainly going to be up for a 10 minute stop, when Taylor find a bank of Oysters with 500 pearls.I think you are overestimating her range and underestimating how fast she would be out of range of any particular clam. A good rule of thumb for her range, if she cant look over the side and clearly see the bottom, it's probably too deep for her to reach with her power.
Mostly it mean that Taylor can buy a ship, which mean if we end up not getting the Going Merry, we aren't going to enter the Grand Line in a dinghy.Does the amount of money Taylor have matter? I mean, more is always better (weeps in unpaid bills) but in this case I... can't really see what use being filthy rich would serve the story.
You can have the marines misunderstand it and think her to be some kind of mastermind genius who managed to steal a fortune right under their nose without them even knowing how she did it, they only know that it is somehow connected to the pearl industry.Does the amount of money Taylor have matter? "Doesn't matter," Zoro said as he walked past and towards the dress. "Breasts are a waste anyway."
