I've been assuming that the Nara clan head automatically has a clearance of, "I already know more than you do."

Well, he definitely acts as if he was the strategic mastermind as his father was...

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail who's current Jōnin Commander of Leaf?

I feel as if I should have solid objections to plan "bastion and repopulate after inevitable human extinction", but I'm coming up dry.

-which suggests that we're not the first ones to think of it...

Now that you mention it it seems likely this is Orochimaru's plan with the exception that he's powerful enough to have no need in bunker.

And if you add the "help everyone perish faster" bit it is similar to Akatsuki's plan as well. In their case bunker is probably in Bear though.

Seal proposal for the contest that I think is super high yield - about skytower-tier in utility - that's also a very simple modification to an existing seal:

Coagulant Goo Bomb.

The essential idea is that if you're wounded and losing a fight badly, you can activate the coagulant Goo Bomb on your person and instantly gain a protective bubble that stops you from bleeding out on the spot. Enemy ninja, in a teamfight, will be forced to choose between risking entanglement in the Goo Bomb or leaving an opponent alive, both of which will help the other Konoha nin survive to win the fight. This will help improve Konoha's survival rate in team missions across the board by allowing more Konoha-nin on team missions to get to medic-nin more consistently, thus improving Leaf's short and long term growth prospects.

I rate it as a lot simpler to make, not super useful for us since we have genin-rank scaling armor techniques, and also crazy useful to the Village as a whole.

The fact that demand for seals would skyrocket again in the wake of such an invention is purely a coincidence, I assure you :p

So @eaglejarl has let me know that bijuu hunt is essentially a dead end. However he has also let me know that he could get us info on a summoning scroll. Would y'all be ok with adding that in?

Screw it.

We succeed by flipping the table. A downright miracle resulted from what Jiraiya called the first holy grail of ninja combat: flight.

What was the second? Armor. Pockets of directional explosives activated by damage would be similarly world-changing.

What's the difficulty? Well, the general calculation comes down to how many people would have the prerequisites, how obvious it is, and the value of the result.

The prerequisite is directional explosives, which we have seen zero indication anybody who hasn't met their independent inventor "bee-tee-dubs, I invented super-detcord" Kagome has even conceived of. They're the product of an autistic savant spending a decade meditating on the nature of explosions in an environment with fewer distractions than a Swiss patent office. Even Jiraiya was surprised by and impressed with them.

-which suggests that the threshold to make them activate on damage, contact, (other useful trigger) needn't be terribly high.

The effect on the meta would be similar to the invention of skywalkers. Imagine a village which had every combatant covered head-to-toe with fifty layers of fully automatic "fuck everything in a 30 degree cone of that incoming attack".

Don't mind me. I just realized that it's easier to simply periodically quote myself (for all the good it will do.)

I think eaglejarl meant that it's more likely for us to find and hunt one down like how we were planning on investigating Tea for clues on the Capybara Clan. I would recommend asking if there were any updates on the original planned attack on the Condor/Capybara trade; that's a good way to start the search given the prior intel Leaf ought to have gathered, plus it gives eaglejarl spoons for getting a narrative going.

HDK because EJDR

That's not what I said. What I said was that a bijuu hunt is going to be incredibly difficult and probably take on the order of a couple of decades because you have to:

  1. Convince Naruto to let you study his seal in depth for long enough that you (or someone else) can actually draw and infuse it.
  2. Learn enough biosealing that you (or someone else) can put one of the most complex and powerful seals in existence on a human being.
  3. Track down a bijuu. 6 of them are sealed in some of the most powerful ninja in existence. The other 3 are either permadead, currently discorporated, or off in the wilderness somewhere (possibly underwater, given where they died) with no information about where.
  4. Subdue it, somehow. Good luck with that.
  5. Seal it.
  6. Convince Kagome-sensei that all of this is totally not a problem and no, honest, jichūriki are containers for Tailed Beasts, not the meatsuits of the Tailed Beasts.

Aha! So biosealing is just translating seals you already know to a different medium! ;p

God, I can see why you guys joke about us being a herd of cats.

"That's not... But...." She huffed out her irritation and tried again. "Kagome, you should talk to some of the experts in Leaf. The jinchūriki are not what you believe they are."

"Uh-huh."

"What would it cost to talk to some people?" Noburi asked. "They've had a jinchūriki here for a decade and a half, and people have a much more personal awareness of him. Ask around, see if there are any incidents that indicate the Fox is in control."
@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail What were the results of Kagome talking to Leaf's resident experts? Surely he has some idea of how to seal a Jinchuriki now, and given the recent tragedies he may well be Leaf's foremost expert on the subject.

power ups
  • If necessary get approval from Hokage
  • Talk to Asuma about trying to acquire a summoning scroll for leaf
    • Does he have any information from the monkeys that might help?
    • Maybe the capybara scroll?
I don't like these additions to the plan.
  1. I don't like the way it spreads things out by adding another scene.
  2. It talks to Asuma as if he happens to have vital info that could lead Leaf to getting a Summoning Scroll and it just happens to not have occurred to him to act on it.
  3. You have it phrased as 'powerups' which betrays an intent of 'get shiny' instead of 'help Leaf'. I have 2/3 confidence that this would bleed into Hazou's characterization wrt the section and taint his actions and the results.
While I would grudgingly accept the additional scene if it was phrased better, as things are I am prepared to unvote over this matter.

  • Research into any notes that Leaf has on the bijuu. Try to find any sealmasters who worked on this to get advice from
Could you possibly add a pre-note to confer with the clan about this stuff (before talking to Asuma)? They may have ideas or information that supplements Asuma's information or makes it redundant, and can also help Hazou prepare the discussion with Asuma so we can get more information.

Changed to leaf power ups and added talking to clan
This still doesn't address the issue where we approach Asuma like he's just sitting on actionable Summoning Scroll intel and hasn't thought to use it, so I'm still not willing to support this plan.

edit: heck it, I'll just branch out without this unsolicited addition to the plan.

Word count 287
[X] Action plan: Bombs and Bijuus and no Scrolls

  • Discuss options with clan + Nara
    • 1: Drop explosives from above, attached to rocks or clones to taste
      • Pros: Nearly guaranteed to work. Very fast results, little recon needed. KISS.
      • Cons: Guarantees that people know someone didn't want that bridge there. It's obvious who. Still, no evidence.
    • 2: Aburame-bug bound delivery of explosive munitions (pre-filled implosion seals that they can bite through to boom it.)
      • Pros: Nearly guaranteed to work; perhaps better results than above. Significantly less likely to be obvious Konoha was involved, especially in combination with plan snippets. Can transition into the above if bug delivery is spotted.
      • Cons: Requires more trust. Requires sacrifice of bug.
    • 3: Personal delivery of explosive munitions/personal excavation of rock
      • Pros: Very effective at making sure there's not going to be a bridge there at any point in the future. Can use Earth Clones.
      • Cons: Easy to spot by sensory techniques, higher risk to personnel than other plans.
    • Snippets (may be added to any of the above):
      • Drive chakra beasts into the ravine.
      • Use technique or seal to create earthquakes either light or heavy, to stop sensory techniques or destroy the bridge.
      • All plans done at night.
    • Requisitions:
      • Flash seal
      • Earthquake seal/technique
      • Chakra Beast corpses/locations to plant at site
  • Bijuu research
    • Discuss with Kagome about the bijuu. How long they take to reform and anything that J's notes has about them.
    • Research into any notes that Leaf has on the bijuu. Try to find any sealmasters who worked on this to get advice from
    • Consider what we can do to make sure they go to Leaf.
    • Try to get information on what the arrays on Nagi Island did to bijuu.

@Oneiros Please accept my suggested changes to this section. Mostly it's removing a redundant section on the summoning scrolls, and altering the bijuu section to flow. It's 278 words with my changes.

I'm kinda-sorta agreeing with @Inferno Vulpix's second comment on the section (am recalling a spat between Hazou and Keiko back when talking about rewards from Jiraiya), but am currently drawing a blank on how to resolve this. My current idea is to offer our assistance as a team with experience in hunting down rumours and successfully finding scrolls in the past (i.e., the Pangolin scroll) but that seems...dangerously arrogant, at least to me.

EDIT: I cannot use google docs for shit, lol :p

I find it obnoxious that you decided to add something fundamentally new this late evening after a bunch of people already voted for your plan.

@Oneiros I have a thought on how we can solve @Inferno Vulpix's second concern: We invoke Jiraiya's spy network. The idea is that we're working hard on decoding the notes he gave us on that so we can give them for Leaf, but we (obviously) want to prioritize those areas that are most important. Therefore we'll ask him something like "Hey, what areas of the EN are most important for us to get Jiraiya's spy network up and running again?" and then bring up the thought of Summoning Scrolls. Something like "Summoning Scrolls would be a real big boost to Leaf's power. Hey, there were rumors about the Capybara scroll being around Sound a couple months ago, and people were sent over to investigate. Was there ever an update on what happened to it; if we have a better idea of where it went we could restart Jiraiya's spy network there and take another look", or something like that.

What are your thoughts?

Can we table this out for the next update instead of trying to get us killed by going on missions to kill jonins?
