Why tho

[X] Go For Broke(n Tower)- Look, you're not an idiot- you can spot a future point for the convergence of conflict a mile away when it's this size, and those ruins are exactly that. That's why you wanna get there first instead of at the same time as everyone else to take stock of the place. Who knows, maybe you'll get some amateur archaeology out of your system while you're there, might find something neat.
Just get to the tower and meet them there. With the Process we can fix it and extra growth is extra protection.

Hm. There were important things to touch on here. Process subtext being front and center. And Prok's style of writing doesn't particularly lend itself to fast pace stuff. And it is a good writing style. But maybe try to fast forward initiation a bit more.
Message from aberrant process: 'Must you refer to me like that? It's somewhat… demeaning.'
Guess Ludens regrets corrupting Blue.
priority target Blake Belladonna.'
It's not discrimination if they actually are long time terrorists.
Ahhhhhh that chorus of groans is like heroin.
I was already of the mind that we needed to keep this woman of questionable virtue away from Jaune. Now look, proof that she revels in the extremes of ruinous drugs. A truly awful influence. No Cell shall be allowed to her.
... You have a horrifying feeling that your unwillingness to do more than scratch the surface of the Process's inner workings is finally coming back to bite you in the ass.'
I don't know if this never registered because there were votes before I started participating or what, but I was totally unaware that Jaune had failed to take a peek under the hood of the Process. Seems like a pretty BIG priority considering we're talking about a proto-god being here.

I just realized that meeting up with the girls now is going to let them see how swole Jaune is. @Prok I know who I'm rooting for, but shenanigans are more important and you committed to throwing all the options at us, dont disappoint me now!

In theory, yeah the Process can make a fortress wherever it damn well pleases. In practice it's heavily off balance at the moment on account of the Transistor being offline.
If we aren't sprinting for the tower, the Core OS should be done with repairs about the time we reach it.

Then we can code in relative peace

Your name is Yang Xiao Long, and you just launched an Ursa through several trees, started a small forest fire, then watched its partner die to a tiny knife in the back, not seconds later finding your partner.
I'm curious @Prok, did you roll for that result or are you sticking to canon teams when possible? I've always preferred when QMs shake things up by randomizing it, but I can't really blame you for making things easier on yourself since you can crib plotlines and interactions from canon.

I suppose you could always split the difference by keeping the canon partners and then rolling for teams.

I hope update speed will pick up in the future. I really want Jaune to romance Weiss. I usually don't care for pairings but they just click in a way that I want to see more of. Excellent writing.

You know. With that nugget of info about how the Transistor is the Process' limiter and whatever, the choice to get CoreOS up first is even more vital in hindsight.

PS. Never change Yang.

I'm surprised Jaune isn't having second thoughts about becoming a huntsman considering this is the second life or death situation he's gotten into in a row that the transistor has broken when he needs it to stay alive.

This isn't a hardware issue, though. This one we can correct with a telling-off.

Yeah, upgrades wouldn't solve the fundamental problem of our AI buddies deciding to do stupid shit without telling us. I don't mind them doing stupid shit, god knows we do it all the time. The problem is that they didn't even give us a heads up.

There's two of these.

Leaning towards voting for unsplitting the group with the Nevermore out and about.
Ah, fixed, thank you. That's a first, too, I have no idea how that happened.

I fuckin' love this fic. Just...just so you know. It's absolutely good shit. You should be proud of it. In the vast sea of cringe that is RWBY fandom and everything relating to Jaune Arc in any way whatsoever, this is a shining diamond of brilliant-cut characterization, both of him and of all its other major characters and a significant number of minor ones. The world needs more of you, @Prok .
Thank you.

You know, no matter how many times I get told how much people like this, it still makes me do Jacob's little crackly "oH" from the end of Fantastic Beasts, it's weird just how uninured I am to genuine praise. It's even worse because my characterisation is the only thing I'm really at all confident in, so it's doubly worse when I'm being told the thing I think I'm doing alright with is great.

Hm. There were important things to touch on here. Process subtext being front and center. And Prok's style of writing doesn't particularly lend itself to fast pace stuff. And it is a good writing style. But maybe try to fast forward initiation a bit more.
What parts of my writing style don't lend themselves to fast-paced stuff?

As is, yeah, don't worry, at this rate I don't see Initiation taking more than four, five updates. And for once I'm confident in saying that!

Is this a new way of referring to the Canon one, or is it a new Grimm? I thought the fandom referred to the Canon one as a "Giant Nevermore"
See, until you mentioned this, I genuinely didn't realise it wasn't called the Nevermore Major, like, I didn't realise it was just Nevermore, but I was working under and will begin to defend the assumption of thus:

Ursa.

Ursa Major.

Star signs, both.

Beowolf, Alpha Beowolf, yeah, no points for that one Sherlock- my point is, there is a trend in Grimm that could probably be shitposted about as 'don't talk to me or my son ever again,' and I'm willing to follow that to its natural conclusion- as Grimm get bigger and nastier, they eventually do so to the point where they gain their own classification.

The problem is, unlike both of those, Edgar Allen Poe's works don't really... lend themselves to the whole, 'find minor related reference and use it elsewhere' schtick. The closest I came to is calling a group of small Nevermore a cask, think of them as basically asshole seagulls with eagle claws and the social skills/general intelligence of crows, and after scouring his works for something to use, the best ones I could find were Nevermore Ligeia, which doesn't fit and also I'm keeping that for later, and Nevermore Maelstöm, which is just way too grandiose for a giant chicken in my opinion. So, Major won out in the end.

I'm curious @Prok, did you roll for that result or are you sticking to canon teams when possible? I've always preferred when QMs shake things up by randomizing it, but I can't really blame you for making things easier on yourself since you can crib plotlines and interactions from canon.

No, aside from Leathers and the rest of the Signal entries that made it in, I'm sticking to canon teams. Not as a matter of canon rails, but because team composition... doesn't, actually matter all that much in terms of storytelling? It's not like Naruto or something where you're sorted into your teams, given a mentor, and off you go, never to see the other characters outside of filler episodes and designated get-togethers- they're functionally living together. They still go to class together, they still have lunch together, they're still in constant social proximity with each other, if I need two characters to interact with each other, they're, there.

The only things that would really change would be how people react to bunking with certain personalities, which really isn't enough meat to make the hell of figuring out a team name worth my time.

Speaking of:

Fuck that's a lot of Ss. Um.

... Any ideas?
