You know what it is.
The Beginning Again
Location
Fifth Dimension
Welcome to LokiQuest: The Second Edition. Where voters control Loki's life in the MCU, CK2 style.

A quick introduction/overview

Stats:
-----------
Martial: All things war and fighting
Diplomacy: The ability to make nice
Stewardship: Running a business or a kingdom
Intrigue: Stealth, spying, lying, and overall unscrupulous activities
Learning: Intelligence mostly, but pure raw intelligence, not wisdom
???: Other things may arise that are a result of the setting

The levels of stats are as follows (unless for some reason I see fit to change them):

0-10 Human

10-20 Heroic

20-30 Planetary

30-40 Galactic

40-50 Cosmic

There will also be Traits that boost stats and different rolls (since everything is decided on the dice), and People that can help you along the way (dictated by their AL or affection level).

The setting here is Earth-199999--the MCU basically.

Time for Round 2
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Odin looked over the battlefield at the carnage that was wrought. His men were hurt but victorious, his enemies beaten back and subdued. As Odin rode on Sleipnir, his eye gouged out by the Jotun King Laufey, he couldn't help but to reminisce about times past. Times of great conquest, of great battle, of glorious battle that would sate the blood of any warrior, of any Asgardian, besides...

Wiping the thought from his mind, Odin directs Sleipnir to a great temple, one used by the Jotuns no doubt. Inside, Odin sees it: a young babe, Laufey's son and heir to the throne, abandoned due to its size. How despicable, to sentence a child to death for something so miniscule, something so...so...out of their control. The King of Asgard moves his one good eye over the child's visage, and makes a decision.

He would rescue this little one. This...this victim of the savagery of the Jotuns and their strange culture. He had taken the Casket of Winters from them, confiscated it and saved Midgard from their cruel and cold reign, and now he thought to give them something. A King. Born of culture, of civility, a king that would lead them to prosperity. The spawn of his enemy would be raised in Asgard as his own, and gifted back when the time was right.

A lesser man may have killed the child, but Odin...was no lesser man. He sought the greater good, no matter the cost, and would gladly sacrifice anything for it. And so, without being seen, Odin lifts the child from its chains, frees it from its death sentence and grants it life under a new name. He lets his great magic flow over the child, and warp its appearance to that of an Asgardian, to keep it safe until the time was right to reveal the babe's origin. The black hair and green eyes remind Odin of a painful memory, and he can only hope that his newfound son is nothing like...

Loki was the name he chose. He hoped that Frigga would accept his decision and raise him as her own. As their own. And he hoped...that Thor would grow to love the child as a brother, so that Asgard and Jotunheim could cease their cold war.

As he hoped, Frigga is receptive to the child, joyful at having yet another child to raise, to love. As if he came from her womb, Frigga immediately takes to young Loki, rocking him back and forth with great care.

Odin couldn't help but to feel...something. A feeling of familiarity? Of dread? Of anticipation? For whatever reason, he could not discern what this feeling was. Nor whether it was good or bad, nor its origin.

Loki's appearance:
[Z] A normal Asgardian with hair black as ink

Loki Odinson:
-----------------------
Martial: 5 (-2)
Diplomacy: 6
Stewardship: 5
Intrigue: 7
Learning: 7

Age: 5
Resources: None
Relationships: Frigga (Mother), Odin (Father), Thor (Brother)

Traits:
-------
Odinson: -5 to ???
Runt: -2 to Martial actions involving strength or size.

Loki grew up a studious child without much love for the physical games...at least compared to other children. Of course he loved playing soldier, and tag, and all other physical games, but he just...wouldn't or couldn't keep it up as long as the other. Often times he'd take the chance to instead read or just...think about different subjects in life. It was rather peculiar for a child but his Mother never seemed to mind. Father...looked on with a furrowed brow but said nothing. After all soon Loki would begin his training...

And now the start of the first turn!

=====================
First Turn (Year One):
=====================
Turns will be split up by years (I'll always let you know how much. Loki and Thor live a LONG time so the turns will skip once they reach adulthood) and involve one action from each stat, and one personal action. More actions can be achieved by reaching 40 in a stat or by acquiring a Mentor in a stat. Other things can affect it, but those are circumstantial.

Vault:
-------------
Casket of Winters: It's cold, it produces cold, and lots of it. Some say the Jotuns could cause an ice age with it, but Loki and Osmond haven't unlocked such yet. Loki's blue scars react to it very strongly. It caused Osmond's eyes to light up, but he said nothing.

Warlock's Eye: Mind Magic that works based on the victim's power/strength. One would have to be careful not to catch themselves. Osmond scoffs at this one.

Tuning Fork: It summons something...something powerful and dark. But Loki didn't want to experiment too much with it. Osmond pays it no mind.

Eternal Flame: An everlasting Fire. It comes from Surtur and his people and will boost Surtur's power back to the level of the All-Father. It may have other properties of healing. Osmond looks at it curiously, but does nothing more.

Tesseract: A cube of infinite power. It's not magic and constantly radiates powerful energy. It seems to have something to do with teleportation and space. Osmond was very interested in it. It can open portals.

Tablet of Life and Time: It carries an inscription of a formula of some kind. It's unknown what the formula does and Loki's not willing to test it. This had Osmond's attention the most. He almost couldn't be torn away from it.

Mechanics
Known Mechanics

Critical Rolls: Any roll+bonus that exceeds 100 is rewarded another roll of the dice. This continues until there is no critical overflow or until ten critical rolls are reached.

Critical Combat: In combat, the total bonuses are cut by 1/4 or 25% for every critical roll until it is only the dice rolling.

Diplomacy/DCs: With DCs in general, and especially Diplomacy, meeting the DC completes the action. If the DC isn't reached but is partially met to a sufficient manner, then other actions may open up, and DC may lower, depending on the action. Also, depending on the action, it can cause penalties for the next turn and/or block the action for the next turn. In Diplomacy especially, rolling too low acts as if you are unheard or saying something offensive. Rolling high but not enough to complete the DC, opens up discussion to keep the conversation going.

Help: Friends, Mentors, and certain others can help you on a roll of choice. Depending on the level of friendship, they can offer a primary, secondary, and tertiary roll. Spouses and significant others can offer as many rolls as needed, but after a tertiary roll, the bonuses decreases (the total bonus is divided by 4, 5, 6, etc. until it's a flat +5). Depending on the situation, the person helping can lower or raise the DC of the roll (based on traits, circumstances, and skills). More on skills is covered in the skills Mechanics. When it comes to stat gains, when working with friends or other help (as a team), the gains are split between the amount of people, and then divided by that number again. This represents first the amount of people doing work, and then the division of effort put in by everyone.

New Combat: Not all combat skills can be used at once. Thus, from now, a style of fighting or a plan will have to be made so the appropriate bonuses can be met. This prevents nonsensical bloat such as a Ranged Trait activating alongside a Close Range Trait when only one of those is being used. Certain magics cannot be used with weapons unless the weapon is imbued or enchanted with the magic. The same goes for ranged weaponry. Using no weapon however, allows all magic to be used, as it is essentially going 'full mage'.

For using magic in combat, it's just a -10 penalty for magic that's untrained. Each 1/5 take away 2 of that 10. So at 1/5 it's -8, at 2/5, it's -6, 3/5 it's -4, 4/5 it's -2, 5/5 it's 0. No penalty. The -10 is total and NOT cumulative. So even if you have 100 magics, all at 0/5, it's just a -10 to use them in battle.

Also, concerning one person fighting against groups of people, that too has been changed. No longer is the pure martial added, but the bonus granted by each person compares to the martial of the person the team or group is facing. For instance, if two 30 Martial people are fighting a 60 Martial person, it is not even. The second 30 Martial person might add something like a +5 to the roll, as they are still very outmatched, even with two of them there. A 20 Martial person jumping in, might only add a +1, while a 25 Martial person adds a +3 and so on. The closer it gets to the opponent's martial, the more is added on (So a person with 50 Martial would add on way more, as fighting two 50 Martial characters is significantly harder than fighting even ten 20 Martial characters).

Skills: Skills (such as Swords for Martial, or Science for Learning) lower the DC for certain actions and can give traits, if you achieve a critical roll. Each 1/5 in a skill lowers DC by 5. When others aid on rolls, their skills are taken into account and the total skill of all participants is averaged to figure out how the DC is affected.

Do we have Moratorium?

Oh right. My bad. Have a +2 to a roll.

Intrigue? Is this supposed to be diplomacy? Or are we doing some Tricky Shit to get them to teach us?

You're supposed to train with the other kids so there needs to be some trickery.

Is the second one making it more into a game than a proper spar?

A deathmatch is not a game. It is...a deathmatch.

I still really like the idea of Loki becoming a magical ultimate blacksmith. That said think it would make for a good excuse for Loki to have a hobby like sculpting since it would mean that instead of it being for power gaming purposes that Loki would find fun and joy in creating. Meaning that crafting would be a passion for him.

Thing is, nothing about how that action SOUNDED serious, so I didn't know if it was literal serious, or two kids playing and pretending their battle has far more importance than it actually does (The Heroic Loki does epic battle against the dasterdly fiend, Megathor!)

But alright, no attempts to kill our brother on turn one.

[] Fight: Some say the best way to learn is to do.
- [] With Thor, DC 30

[] Convince Your Mother that you didn't NEED lessons from the instruction, but from her instead. DC 55
[] Hang out with Thor! He seemed to think of you as a little kid and that's not fair! You're only one year younger! DC 40

[] Ask mother for an allowance you could manage. DC 25

[] Pull pranks on Thor. Those were always fun, and he never saw them coming! DC 15

[] Pay extra attention to your Classes and try to excel! DC 15
[] You learn best from only the best. As such you were homeschooled by your Mother. Try to learn from her (contingent on Convince Your Mother... action in Diplomacy) DC 10

[] There was...something in you. You could feel it. Try to tap into that. DC, ??

These are the actions I'm thinking of taking. I can't decide between the Mother Diplomacy, or the Thor Diplomacy.

Weren't you the one who complained when we took "For the lulz" shapeshifting options that didn't help loki much in combat?

It is that by the way. Kinda. Thor's in persona. Loki just has to fight. No killing. I apologize that my humor was not caught.

[] Plan: Let's do this properly, this time.

Martial:
----------
-[] Fight: Some say the best way to learn is to do.
--[] The dastardly fiend Megathor has challenged you to a deathmatch, DC ???

Spar with evil Thor!

Diplomacy:
---------------
-[] Hang out with Thor! He seemed to think of you as a little kid and that's not fair! You're only one year younger! DC 40

Stewardship:
--------------------
-[] Ask mother for an allowance you could manage. DC 25

Intrigue:
--------------
-[] Study your classmates and get the lay of the land. Figure who does what, and how fun they were! DC 30

So we can know who is doing what and avoid activating Amora.

Learning:
-------------
-[] Visit the Library, you've heard so much about all of the different books! So much opportunity, so little time... DC 20

Personal:
-------------
-[] Relationships: Spend time with some of your favorite people in the world!
--[] Thor

Let's get a bromance going, and go to the library to pick from broad knowledge down to the specific topics we want (forging, magic, etc) and unlock their actions.

Once our diplo rises from effort we can convince Mother to become our Learning tutor.

Ah, alright. That is why I was asking, cause I couldn't tell if it was a joke or not.

Going to do one of these two.

Why Library, and why not Focus On Studies? Focus has a DC of 10, which is almost certain to pass.

Also, is there any particular logic behind Thor instead of Lessons From Mother? I couldn't decide between the two (Bro Thor is good, but getting those lessons started early from mom would be a big help), and curious how you decided.

If Loki were to spend time grooming his musical skills. Can he at some point in the future gain 'Musical Spell Casting'?

curious how you decided.
Want to raise our diplo stat from succeeding in diplo actions, and lower DC from raising Frigga AL before we try it and fail, causing the DC to go up or even permanently lose out.

As for the library, I figure a good roll could let us pick the book topic and thus get started on forging or a related topic faster.

Weren't you the one who complained when we took "For the lulz" shapeshifting options that didn't help loki much in combat?
Uh, pretty sure I never complained about that kind of stuff. Think you might be thinking of someone else. In fact I literally keep advocating that we shouldn't focus too much on just pure stats at the expense of story and make it just about numbers and stats instead of the person we are playing.

Hence why I would like Loki to go for a hobby like sculpting. While yes I do want us to go down the ultimate blacksmith route that's why I want Loki to actually have a passion for it and isn't just doing it for power but actually enjoys creating things.

I was considering sculpting but I think Loki needs a bro first.

To add on to what red bovine said about smithing ;

Another thing about smithing is that it affords us additional options to solve problems in a narrative sense which I think is the biggest advantage of that path.

Thanks. How long do I have to wait?

Wait? For what?

If Loki were to spend time grooming his musical skills. Can he at some point in the future gain 'Musical Spell Casting'?

Sure.

I will warn you, with no growth phase, you'd need a crit to raise the Diplo stat (or any stat).

Alright. Still, I would rather focus on one thing at a time (Thor, for this first turn) and then possibly Frigga as a mentor next turn.

Hear are the changes (I think unless more has been changed since)
Let's see...

Reboot notes/changes:

- No background rolls for others
- Traits only go towards DC instead of rolls. Or to the end/total of the roll.
- Less exploding dice? I suppose a limit of how far it can go...like...to 10? Sure 10 crits is maximum.
- No god/goddess mechanics. Let's just dump this since it angered so many
- No Growth Phase. Instead everything is normal and stats double into adulthood.
- Character Page

Anything else?

Yeah, one of the changes with the reboot. Now stats just get doubled upon adulthood and growth is normal (like adulthood) rather than accelerated (like before).
How does that apply to NPCs? I assume you are still doing some background rolls instead of simulating their whole turns. Is that why Thor views us as annoying?

Okay, so, while I don't think I/we can plan out the entirety of Loki's development right now, I want to lay some foundational ideas and approaches.

To me, one of the issues in the 1st game was that it felt like we lost focus. Among other things...

Anyway!

[] Plan Asgardian Foundation, Round 1
-[] Martial: Train: Hand to Hand, DC 30
-[] Diplomacy: Make friends during your lessons...and during training! DC 25
-[] Stewardship: Ask mother for an allowance you could manage. DC 25
-[] Intrigue: Study your classmates and get the lay of the land. Figure who does what, and how fun they were! DC 30
-[] Learning: Pay extra attention to your Classes and try to excel! DC 15
-[] Personal: Relationships: Spend time with some of your favorite people in the world! (Father)

Hand to hand, the Intrigue, and the Learning play into patience and observation, key skills just in general.
Diplomacy is so we branch out early beyond just in-family relationships.
Allowance is an easy way to start learning early.
And I want to try and work with spending time with Father now while we're young and adorable.
