Renascence: A Homura Quest

Honorifics or Western-style Titles? I've used both before, which is bothersomely inconsistent

Hm...interesting developments all around. I find myself agreeing with Macros on the fronts of networking. Working with SAO will give us a chance to work on our clock making skills which seem to be a big part of this Quest. The RPG I am not so certain on. On the one hand, we are very busy as is, with trying to find Witches to fight for Seeds and trying to find ways to keep Madoka from contracting, and now trying to find all these girls she's supposed to be connected with. On the other hand, there is the point that attempting to min-max a character in an RPG might give us some insights on what's possible with Homura's magic and accidentally increase her Magic Theory. There's also the mysterious 4th player that appears to be quite a character. Those last two really want me to go with it, but I'm worried it'll end up like our little jaunt into Souls Art Online where we end up having to make a lot of decisions on how to play out the table top that doesn't really give us much plot or anything of real interest to the overall story. With all that said...

Also on a completely unrelated note...
He just likes building settings and letting other people explore them.
This is so much me. This is the main reason my attempts at fanfiction never get finished and never get posted anywhere. I get way too invested in the lore of the story I'm trying to write, that by the time I'm trying to write the actual details of how the characters interact or discover this lore I've lost interest.

I don't see why not. Clocks! And a chance to make peace with Dad. I suspect that maxing out his social link will contribute to the Golden Ending.

"Personally, I don't think Kayaba actually cares about making games. He just likes building settings and letting other people explore them."
Ah, but is there really anything wrong with that? I mean, ZUN started up the Touhou Project because he wanted to make video game music, and decided that the easiest way to start doing that was if he made the games they'd be in himself.

Yes

The RPG session(s) may also help a bit with SAN issues.

It would be very amusing if the 4th player happens to be either Sayaka or Madoka's mother. :D

Way too much to do already, but can't deny the possibility of another info hook or contact. At the very least, it acts as information on people that we can use in later loops.

I will say that this will not be a thing. The focus will be on interactions between the players--at most, there might be a vote about what class Homura chooses.

The RPG is a chance to meet a couple of new people (there are 4 players already, you'll be the fifth), spend time with HomuDad, and have some painless, sanity-restoring fun.

Eh, why not.

"Anyway, it's a good chance to get your feet wet, and it'll be great for your resume later."
"GET MY FEET WET? THE KNELL OF MY CLOCKS WILL DROWN THE SOUNDS OF THEIR LAMENTATIONS AS THEY LOOK UPON MY WORKS AND WEEP!"

*Cough*

"...I'm not being paid enough to mange both of your psychoses."

Eventually, as you're shooting a human body to answer anatomy questions--you think that Kayaba might be just a bit out of touch with normal people--the room fades away.
"...I'm not being paid enough to mange both of your psychoses."

"... I'm already busy with my own, thank you very much!"

That makes me think: it's possible that Kayaba is on to us now. The brain scan did apparently pick up something significant enough that dear dad would call it 'weird', and Kayaba apparently going 'naaah, everything's fine!' might mean he did see something out of the ordinary, and for whatever reason decided to keep it to himself. I wonder if already met some magical girls or had the opportunity to study one.

It's probably because Homu is very much out of the realm of average child for her age and the results probably reflected that. That would be rather weird to see. After all Homu has been hospital bound for years it's highly unlikely for her to have able to pick up the skills and knowledge she displayed. It's possible he's familiar with magical girls in passing but I can't say one way or another.

I agree that the scan picking up something was to be expected. What I find noteworthy is Kayaba's apparent insistance to claim everything's fine, when even Homura's dad went 'wait, that doesn't seem quite right'. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but still.

Canon Omake: Rookie Aftermath
Ruki woke with a gasp as she held her face. Sweat slid down her cheek as she leaned against the metal hull of the Yamato. It's been a few hours since she got back from Miss Tomoe's place. She was a nice girl and even helped her out when she woke up. Ruki didn't want to overstay her welcome but it's been a big day the whole time since then. She needed some time alone to think about everything that's happened. The meeting with the military group and the battle at the church sprung into mind.

She could still hear that thing laughing at the back of her mind as she fought it. She didn't even have control of her body back then, all she knew was that she had to protect her companions. Ruki fought even as her body was being worn down, torn to shreds, it was... A feeling of ecstasy just being able to protect others.

It felt good.

"No. Gotta focus," Ruki breathed as she shook her head. She continued fixing her Ship as best she could. Picking up her broken pieces until she was all better.

The events that transpired since she met her senpai was a little overwhelming. Relishing the monotony her work gave her was a nice change of pace. Waking up earlier this week, she would have never expected this sort of thing to happen. Ruki used her wrench to tighten the screws on the side of the Yamato's hull and stepped back to admire your work.

"Big things are going to happen soon. I can feel it," she murmured as she stared at the Ship before giving it a good pat, "Hopefully we can get you up and running by then."

She always had an eye for people and she knew that her senpai was going to be in a whole lot of trouble. She knew that her senpai was hurting just by looking at her. She was familiar with those sorts of people and she can't help but be drawn to them, to help them, but the way Homura was broken was just saddening.

Homura Akemi was a broken person and Ruki could see that much. She wanted to help her but she didn't know how...

"Remember."

Ruki sighed as she shook her head. She had a busy day yesterday and having her face blown off wasn't exactly on her list of plans. But as long as she's useful to her senpai then it was fine. Maybe she should look into this feeling in her. This odd sense of familiarity. Leaning against the Yamato, the girl looked at her Soul Gem as it emitted the same orange glimmer.

She couldn't help but wonder what sort of trouble her senpai would bring her next. She's feeling excited already.

That's all I got! Until next time!
