[X] Report: Scouting went as well as could be expected, and I took the liberty of indulging in some sabotage while I was at it. You've already seen my work on the goblin launchers, but I also managed to confirm the Hall of Oaths remained sealed, and got eyes inside the Hall of the Moon. Things there were... Troubling--the Crooked Moon Goblins seem to have an alliance of convenience with at least one group of Skaven, and had prepared a large number of some kind of rat beasts for us. I took the liberty of putting a bullet in the Goblin commander's skull while wearing the illusion of being a Skaven--and the warpstone the Goblin had for teeth blew up when I shot him and wounded the Skaven he was negotating with as an added bonus--but things were a bit too hot to stay put and confirm more than the start of infighting--all I can tell you is that the Goblins there are significantly faster and more determined than they probably should be, and it's something that should be taken into account. Beyond that? I made my way to the King's Gates to see if there was anything I could do to ease the approach, found they had a nasty trap prepared in the form of a false floor with a herd of trolls hidden beneath just past their bolt throwers. I took the liberty of releasing the trolls on them, and they were in the middle of a nasty riot by the time I made good my escape.
Ah, this does make me a little nostalgic somehow. We haven't seen big wall of text reports for a long time now. I'm just glad that it's not winning.
I'm voting for DOS's plan.
Actually, you're not. Because nobody started their vote with "Plan", you have to vote the whole thing or it won't get counted together.

[X] Report: First Mathilde will say that the Hall of Oath's is intact then Mathilde will give an efficient report starting with King's Gates and then onto places the Dwarfs will encounter next.
-[X] After giving the information on enemy defenses she'll describe the goblin's desecration of the dwarf hold and give her inferences into the situation.
I'll vote for this if you give it a plan name.

Didn't realize it was a plan type vote thanks. I'm assuming who we join in with for the assault is still a seperate vote though.

It's all good, I like to consider what I do something to help other people frame stuff around, you know?

Also, for old time's sake.

[X] Reporting:
--[X] State of enemy forces and defenses near landing pad, and following sabotage.
--[X] Hall of Oaths remains sealed, and not for lack of try
--[X] Estimated composition, quality, and type of enemies in Hall of the Moon. General defenses (or lack thereof) The general interactions between Skaven and Goblin, as well as the type of beasts being exchanged (rat beasts and orcs). Goblin Big Boss (describe) was shot and killed, the Skaven leader (describe) blinded as a side-effect, while under guise of Skaven, and infighting broke out. Current information accuracy uncertain after chaos initiated.

So many different report editions out there. I won't even worry about it, lets just help Belegar kill Greenskin hero units.

Don't let Kragg hear you call runes magic.

He will woop Mathilde's ass for such an insult
No, it's totally magic, in the same way that iron is iron and working with iron is ironworking regardless of what you're actually doing with it.

What Runes aren't is waterfall-craftsmanship. It's the difference between using iron to make a sword and just scooping up and throwing molten iron at people. Picking it up and throwing it at people is a lot scarier than a sword, but a sword won't cause you to burst into flames if you hold it wrong, and you can give a sword to your friend and make another for yourself and then you have two swords, which are much better than one.

Kragg is a master of Sane magic.

Question: while the frequently underground nature of this campaign makes it unlikely to be doable, do people think it would be possible to use the solar forge/shadow lens spell we learned for enchanting and crafting as a war spell? Molten glass is fucking hot, and outside of magical reinforcement even stone and iron are going to be very weak or flat out melted if she can get bits of a target up to those temperatures, to say nothing of the fires she could start or the direct anti-personnel uses.

The spell she learned for trapping daylight for later use in enchanting might also be possible to repurpose/weaponize, specifically as a flash grenade, as long as she doesn't need to maintain concentration on it and can have it rapidly discharge the stored light. Given how light-sensitive many of the underground natives are even a brief flash of normal daylight ought to basically kill their vision for a fair bit when they're adjusted to the dark.

Also, have people considered that the burning shadow spell and her newly mobile shadow could synergize really fucking well, especially when using the spell whose mastery lets her shadow directly attack enemies? I've heard a bit about how her defense is well above her offense as things stand, but I'm not sure she actually needs much there to turn her into a murderblender if she can leverage what she's got already better.

Apologies if these have ideas have already been suggested or shot down in discussion—I only recently joined the quest and I've focused most of my reading outside of the threadmarks to the very recent discussion.

I think we should try actual descriptions instead of "(describe)" next time: more fun that way.

[x] Standing in reserve to respond to reinforce wherever needed.

We did good work and can get a bit of rest before we are needed.

Another barnstorming update @BoneyM, your quality and pace of update continues to amaze.

Not too sure how much detail the reporting plan needs to go into, but may as well bandwagon.

Belagar is probably in a lot more danger than Kragg, and Maria can do a lot more damage by using her Terror to break the goblin lines to open a path for the vanguard than hanging around doing nothing.

The dwarves' biggest problem is suffering attrition. That's more fatal to the expedition than even Kragg going down. Reducing the casualty rate associated with frontal assaults on defended positions is the biggest contribution Mathilde can make.

-Shyish - We have the extant feign death spell and Ulgu can already natively wipe memories, cause sleep and terror, but I'm genuinely having great difficulty imagining how we'd make the other stuff happen at all rather than pretending it happened.
The Lesser Shadow Magic of Throttling gives shadows substance, and Ulgu itself is well suited to making material things insubstantial and immaterial things material. Perhaps an adaptation of Throttling could allow an Ulgu user to literally puppet around a corpse.

It'd certainly be hilariously more limited and doesn't cleave well to what Ulgu does, but its something.

It possibly could, but QM made it quite clear than unless Mathilde has enough rep to be seen as Great Hero-like saintly figure who can't do any wrong, consequences for publically using even adapted-to-Ulgu stuff from Liber Mortis will be catastrophic.

Maybe not even then. Alas, all this kind of cooled my enthusiasm for trying to find tricks applicable to Ulgu in that book.
I'm not exactly surprised about this outcome, but where did Boney talk about this?

I can't find any reference to that, the closest is that if people knew the source of the knowledge was the Liber Mortis, they'd panic and go burn the witch, which isn't the same thing.

In any case, on reflection, it might be better to see if there are any low hanging Learning skills to boost that attribute before cracking open the book.

Would probably help her understand it in the first place.

Would probably help her understand it in the first place.

Warhammer magic is interesting to learn as its nature means that it makes sense for learning of almost any kind could be expected to help with it in different ways. For example, Dwarf Lore gives a whole new set of metaphors and cultural references that have helped define Ulgu and its associations, probably to a greater degree than humanity has.

Of course, the big prize here would be to learn the dwarves' take on magical theory (we're never getting actual rune lore), as they have a completely different magical tradition to the elf derived lore of the Colleges. That's partially why the Liber Mortis itself is so valuable, because it represents a third independent magical tradition derived from the Nehekharan theurgy.
