There is a time and place for bragging, drinking and storytelling. A military report just a few hours before the arrival of the vanguard of a massive reclamation force of Dwarves and Men (and Halflings) is NOT that time. Every minute spent asking us questions to get information necesdary to make a good battle plan is a minute spent on not making that plan, or ensuring that it doesn't have weaknesses.

Ritual Casting is something Mathilde can already do. It's a foundational skill.

I am under the impression that Ritual Casting requires a trait like Enchanting does, which is why there was a class on it in the College and why it was offered as a Shiny in character creation.

[X] Serving as Kragg the Grim's bodyguard as he unseals the Armoury, the Temple of Grungni, and the Hall of Oaths.

You know what, given the way the reports are rapidly changing, we really should use names instead of copy-pasting entire reports.

[X] Reporting: EVA-Saiyajin
[X] Standing in reserve to respond to reinforce wherever needed.

Being the vanguard might be fun, but we are one of the mobile units and are better used as a reserve, as we have a good chance of responding in time.

[X] Reporting:
--[X] State of enemy forces and defenses near landing pad, and following sabotage.
--[X] Hall of Oaths remains sealed, and not for lack of try
--[X] Estimated composition, quality, and type of enemies in Hall of the Moon. General defenses (or lack thereof) The general interactions between Skaven and Goblin, as well as the type of beasts being exchanged (rat beasts and orcs). Goblin Big Boss (describe) was shot and killed, the Skaven leader (describe) blinded as a side-effect, while under guise of Skaven, and infighting broke out. Current information accuracy uncertain after chaos initiated.
--[X] Type of defenses in King's Gates, including enemy troop compositions, artillery, and Stone Troll trap, and the following sabotage initiated
--[X] General state of affairs in Lhune as far as clans noted and occupying

Rites or Ritual Magic are extremely long and intricate types of magic not associated with any one wind that have expensive components and powerful and often bizarre effects. Ritual Casting is a 'normal' spell cast with more time and effort and sometimes props for a stronger effect - in other words, 'upgrading' a spell to a rite.

[X] Report: Scouting went as well as could be expected.
-[X] Goblin launchers on peak damaged.
-[X] Hall of Oaths remained sealed
-[X] The Crooked Moon Goblins in Hall of the Moon seem to have an alliance of convenience with rat people. They have a large number rat beasts.
--[X] Goblin commander killed under illusion of Skaven, and rat-man they negotiated with blinded. There is chance it will break their cooperation, but problems with disengaging may allow goblins to put things together.
-[X] King's Gates goblins distracted by releasing a stone trolls hidden just past their bolt throwers.

Okay. All the Report plans together have the details I'd prefer, but not a single one has them all.

So, here's my attempt.

[X] Report: Sabotaging Goblins
-[X] Infiltrated via the landing pad after killing the guard
--[X] Goblins did not appear to replace the guard outside
--[X] Started a fire among the doom diver wings before moving on
-[X] The Hall of Oaths remains sealed despite evidence of attempted breaches
-[X] The Crooked Moon Tribe remains in control of the Hall of the Moon
--[X] The Night Goblins number in the thousands
--[X] The remains of the Broken Toof, many hundreds of orcs, are imprisoned in a large pit.
--[X] The Night Goblins were in the middle of some sort of negotiation or trade agreement with the Rat-men, using the orcs as merchandise.
---[X] The Rat-man leader had brought 20 warriors that I could see, along side many lesser rat-men.
---[X] There were two wagons loaded with dog-sized cages full of other rat creatures
---[X] And the room contained roughly the same number of empty cages.
--[X] Assassinated the Night Goblin Big Boss while disguised as a Rat-man.
---[X] Successfully, blinded the Rat-man leader as a bonus.
--[X] Both sides appeared to fall for the ruse.
---[X] Fled as the fighting began.
--[X] Night Goblins were unexpectedly tenacious and capable in pursuit
---[X] Lost time and potentially ruined the ruse.
-[X] Moved on to the King's Gates
--[X] Goblin army, approximately a thousand in number, was arranged on the gateward side of the hall.
--[X] A line of bolt throwers was arranged across the center.
--[X] The rear of the hall was made up of a pit trap containing many stone trolls.
--[X] Managed to "convince" the stone trolls to leave the pit trap
--[X] Escaped in the ensuing chaos.

I like this report the most so far.

[x] Standing in reserve to respond to reinforce wherever needed.

This gives us the best odds of making ourselves useful somewhere critical, although I do see the temptation of going in the vanguard or going to unseal the Temple of Grungni.

Plan Murderbeast Distraction
A fine end to our 'scouting' trip.

Love that the Dwarfs were told to expect shenanigans from us. Our reputation continues to grow.

I would rather BoneyM work an actual report into the narrative than try to distil a report out of a story-paragraph.

[X] Serving as Kragg the Grim's bodyguard as he unseals the Armoury, the Temple of Grungni, and the Hall of Oaths.
We know what Belegar will be facing and it isn't impressive. We do not know what Kragg may face. Plus, how often does a manling get the chance to see a Rune Lord at work? Or the inside of a Dwarf Armoury?

Well, great. Apparently, there was a much simpler vote, I somehow missed.

Shadowsteed basically functions as a ward save on the battlefield when it's up. Limited charges (2) before needing to be recast, and we do need to be mounted- but still, 4+ to transfer the wound to the shadow horse.
Actually, it seems that it only needs to be recast if it blocks two things in one round.
But even without optionall buffs she is still WS4 T5 W3+4 which is not absurd, but quite respectable. As in, more durable than trolls, minotaurs, ogres, etc.
Does the Seed consume all charges when it ressurects us? Because the wording on the WHFB seems to imply it just spends one charge.

Each charge restores her to full, not a single wound. If she trigger so to when she has 1 wound left, it should be an effective 8 extra wounds.
Our old greatsword served us well, but a runed Greataxe or a magical greatsword of lesser quality (dwarfs, urgh) would serve us better
Boney implied that kicking ass with a sword might remove that penalty, at least for us.

Because the wording on the WHFB seems to imply it just spends one charge.

Correct. Each charge is a full heal. In battle, Mathilde will use it to restore herself when she's at one wound, because she's in no hurry to experience even a temporary death. Outside of it, she'll keep herself at full health if she has to do things that being wounded would get in the way of and she's still got what she judges as 'enough' charges left.

Boney implied that kicking ass with a sword might remove that penalty, at least for us.

Correct.

So, worst case we have an effective 5 lives at 3 wounds each, which is an important distinction from 15 wounds due Killing Blow being a thing.

More pratically, we have W11. No wonder the College was worried about it falling in the wrong hands, imagine an Everchosen with this baby.

On that note, I'd absolutely love for a Heroic Killing Blow sword, isn't that the Master Rune of Death?

Yeah, I guess Mathilde is even more hilariously immortal than I thought.

Actually just fighting goblins until dorfs come might have been an actual possibility with reasonably high rolls.

It's possible that Boney would go by narrative and attributes rather than battle mechanics if we tried to go fight a few hundred goblins. If for no other reason than that simulating us fighting a few hundred goblins would, uh, be a bit much. It would be a lot of rolling.

Narrative-wise we had been stuck in one "one vs absurd amount of enemies with no help in sight" and BoneyM simply made us roll until help came.

This time help would've been somewhat further away, but we are also roughly an order of magnitude stronger than back then.

Concise, accurate, minimal assumptions, and contains all militarily relevant information. Given we're dealing with Dwarves and are under a bit of a time crunch if plans are to be adjusted to handle revealed information I see all of these as very good things.

We really could use better armor, tho.

4+ is decent, but not if you are trying to be an ultra tank. The right dwarf characters are probably as tanky, or more, due much higher WS and Armor, and also higher T. From the 1d4 page:
  • Great Weapon (6pts), Shield (3pts), Shieldbearers (40pts), 2x Rune of Iron (45pts), Rune of Fortitude (35pts), 3x Rune of Warding (45pts): T7, W6, 1+ Armour Save, 4++ Ward Save.
Great weapon of course doesn't work with shield, so only 2+ Armour save in CC --Jasko (talk) 11:35, 16 November 2018 (UTC)That's pretty sexy. However, there is an alternative. Instead of 4++ Ward Save, get either:
  • 2x Rune of Cleaving (35pts), Rune of Striking (10pts): WS8, S5, T7, W6, 1+ Armour Save and Armour Piercing, or:
  • Rune of Cleaving (10pts), 2x Rune of Striking (35pts): WS8, T7, W6, 1+ Armour Save, Armour Piercing and re-roll failed To Hits.
Or you can take the advice of Bruenor from Bugman's and take:
  • Shieldbearers (40pts), Master Rune of Snorri Spanglehelm (25pts), Rune of Might (25pts), Rune of Parrying (25pts), 3x Rune of Warding (45pts) and the all important Rune of Stone (5pts)
Netting you a Lord that's never hit on better than a 4+, always hits on a 2+, never wounds on worse than a 4+ and has a 1+/4++. This guy, for 310 points, has killed Archaon. I've never seen the build lose a challenge.
We have an incredibly high HP pool, but our armor is low, WS could improve, we lack a proper Ward save (Shadowsteed dies too fast if it actually blocis things, and takes too long to bring back).
