I must be missing something, but in what circumstances do people expect Kragg to be fighting anything?

When wouldn't the rest of the dwarven army have thoroughly killed everything nearby?

I know the timeline doesn't match up for this to be the reason, but wouldn't you normally attribute a vast amount of competent goblins to the presence of someone like Skarsnik?

I mean, I know he isn't the warboss at this point in time, but could it be that there's a young Skarsnik boss lurking around somewhere here? Neither Warhammer timelines nor Greenskin lifespans are my strong suit so I genuinely have no idea.

Or perhaps whatever fervent of brutal Darwinian competition amongst goblins that eventually produced a Skarsnik is responsible for more competent than average goblins.

Jeeeeez I don't like that big paragraph report. We're not here to give ourselves praise. Keep in mind the audience we're talking to!

[X] Report: Scouting went as well as could be expected.
-[X] Goblin launchers on peak damaged.
-[X] Hall of Oaths remained sealed
-[X] The Crooked Moon Goblins in Hall of the Moon seem to have an alliance of convenience with rat people. They have a large number rat beasts.
--[X] Goblin commander killed under illusion of Skaven, and rat-man they negotiated with blinded. There is chance it will break their cooperation, but problems with disengaging may allow goblins to put things together.
-[X] King's Gates goblins distracted by releasing a trolls hidden just past their bolt throwers.

Nothing. It needs a linear effect it can scale up.

Something similar: Is it possible to ritually cast the battle magic Steed of Shadows so that it lasts longer and/or is bigger? Because what would be really cool is creating a shadow dragon. /too ambitious

[X] Report: Scouting went as well as could be expected, and I took the liberty of indulging in some sabotage while I was at it. You've already seen my work on the goblin launchers, but I also managed to confirm the Hall of Oaths remained sealed, and got eyes inside the Hall of the Moon. Things there were... Troubling--the Crooked Moon Goblins seem to have an alliance of convenience with at least one group of Skaven, and had prepared a large number of some kind of rat beasts for us. I took the liberty of putting a bullet in the Goblin commander's skull while wearing the illusion of being a Skaven--and the warpstone the Goblin had for teeth blew up when I shot him and wounded the Skaven he was negotating with as an added bonus--but things were a bit too hot to stay put and confirm more than the start of infighting--all I can tell you is that the Goblins there are significantly faster and more determined than they probably should be, and it's something that should be taken into account. Beyond that? I made my way to the King's Gates to see if there was anything I could do to ease the approach, found they had a nasty trap prepared in the form of a false floor with a herd of trolls hidden beneath just past their bolt throwers. I took the liberty of releasing the trolls on them, and they were in the middle of a nasty riot by the time I made good my escape.

Alectai, this reads more like a story than a report. Nothing about defenses, numbers, doesn't even point out the trolls were stone trolls.
Yes Saiyahjin, that is, kind off, entirely, the point. It is a story. As well it should be. I wouldn't mind some kind of combined vote, where Mat goes into numbers and details, but for an opening? As a hook, and short introduction for what to expect? It works great.

I figure she opens with that, Dwarves and everyone drinks to that, and than we all get into the nitty gritty. Don't be mister cold logic person. There are enough dwarves around for that. Moral also wins wars. So let's give em a tale to get em all fired up and the details to make this whole thing as effective as can be.

[X] Reporting:
--[X] State of enemy forces and defenses near landing pad, and following sabotage.
--[X] Hall of Oaths remains sealed, and not for lack of try
--[X] Estimated composition, quality, and type of enemies in Hall of the Moon. General defenses (or lack thereof) The general interactions between Skaven and Goblin, as well as the type of beasts being exchanged (rat beasts and orcs). Goblin Big Boss (describe) was shot and killed, the Skaven leader (describe) blinded as a side-effect, while under guise of Skaven, and infighting broke out. Current information accuracy uncertain after chaos initiated.
--[X] Type of defenses in King's Gates, including enemy troop compositions, artillery, and Stone Troll trap, and the following sabotage initiated
--[X] General state of affairs in Lhune as far as clans noted and occupying

[X] Storming the Gates with the Vanguard.

I have a feeling that either the King or the Grim would need our aid for the battle. The King will likely be where the battle is hardest (he has the shiniest shinies and the greenskins knows that that means that he is a Boss) and he could likely make good use of our aid. But on the other hand, The Grim is about to do some major magics and we might be able to uptake some magical knowledge via osmosis by our mere presence. Furthermore, I would not be surprised if there are assassins and other nasties lurking about, so we might be doing some bodyguard duties.

There is time for laughing, drinking and stories, and there is time for war and giving reports to military leader. Those two times does not mix.

@DiceOfStupidity
I would mention that the trolls were stone trolls, since troll breeds vary quite a bit, and stone trolls are tougher and more magic resistant than other breeds

Kragg is in the vanguard, as we knew before we went on our scouting expedition, not placed anywhere safe or protected (he is the safety and protection). Furthermore, other dwarves might be able to deal with, say, greenskins ahead of time, but that really doesn't account for anything sealed inside that might have had time to fester. That's where the mention of fighting blatantly magical things arises; those're the sorts of things that could conceivably have made their way in there without the greenskins busting the door open.

Belegar is the most important member of the expedition so I would rather be there where our magical healing can prevent a disastrous end. Kragg is powerful enough on his own and even if he were to die, it would not end the entire thing, unlike if Belegar fell.

Honestly, I feel like we should just stick near Belegar whenever there's a major battle.

Magic expert do magic related thing, rune totally counts.

@EVA-Saiyajin maybe we should also explicitly mention the orc slaves and the unexpected speediness of goblins (which was noted by BoneyM to be worth reporting). Those might be covered by "general defenses", though.

@EVA-Saiyajin @Alectai the orks being rounded up has been mentioned but I'm not sure the enslavement of the Broken Toof has been covered? The last line of your plan Eva might but I think it prudent to specify.

Tempted by the idea of watching a bunch of Slayers flinging themselves into good deaths, but it's edged out by this.
