Heavy boulders would be outside the limits of the spell, but if it was possible it would smash through the wood.
It's a cubic meter in the description, so we might need to update it? We'll be munchkining one hell out of that spell in the short term!

Is bewidering a goblin or three to wander aimlessly on the "trap" likely to work?

Generally, when Mathilde presents an option to herself(us), there is a way for Mathilde to actually do stuff she is considering doing.

The "circumstance that prevented X" is, generally, the result of a bad roll.

The boulder plan is not so bad though. Though, unless we roll the boulder pretty far, the exit point for murdebeasts might be a bit close to us.

Bewilder's effects aren't under our control.
We could bewilder a bunch of them until we get 'stand around stupidly' and manhandle it into the trap while under Substance of Shadow? Or better yet just wait until one rolls the jump into the death pit option.

I'm wondering about the weird set up the goblins have here. The goblin screening force for a bunch of ballistae is fairly simple and makes sense. But why is monster trap pit set up so that the ballistae are in front of the trap? Wouldn't it make more sense to put the ballistae behind the trap so that you have to run over the pit to get to the ballistae?

This set up is actually a strong indication of Rat Ogres (or something else rampagey) over Trolls. Presumably if the trap is triggered everything around it is going to die horribly which is why the ballistae are placed before the pit. Since this way the ballistae have more accurate shots and when the trap is triggered the Rat Ogres will all move in the one direction instead of being split between dwarf invaders to the front and goblin crewmen behind the pit.

What about unleashing the monsters and then run back to the Goblin launch pad?

If we can disrupt both defense and offense...

Oh, I was picturing, like, the thing that nearly got Indiana Jones. Yeah, that'd be doable.
A cubic meter of rock is two to three tons - enough to crash a goblin-made floor (and even if not we can make it two boulders). Come to think of it, this makes this spell a nice offensive weapon. 3 tons of stone dropping on your head must hurt a lot.

[x] Plan Crush the Floor
[x] Sabotage the defences...
- [x] By crushing the wooden floor with substance-of-shadow boulders and unleashing whatever is under this floor upon the greenskins above it.
[x] Slip out...
- [x] By walking out while they're otherwise distracted. (note: ensure your plan includes an otherwise distraction)

I think it's to prevent goblins from legging it, among other things.

I just don't think relying on monsters tomhat we would somehow get out of the pit to immediately try and kill the first thing they lay eyes on is reliable. Especially if our attempt puts us close enough to be a target, or noticed.

I say just move as close as we can without being likely to be spotted and pull some ballista triggers with Move, then slip out in the distraction.

The idea, as far as Mathilde can tell, is that when someone sneaks up on the Gates from behind, they see unattented bolt throwers pointing at goblins and run right up to pull the trigger, and that's when they run over the wood and gribblies happen.

Goblins aren't stupid, but this is a good example of how they're definitely not smart, either. This is a fun plan, but it's also one with a whole bunch of really obvious flaws that nobody dared to point out to da boss.

I'm gonna have to rephrase that, because I was trying to encompass a range of different items up to about person-sized and didn't think of the obvious conclusion of my phrasing, which is Mathilde running around blatting people in the face with an invisible two-ton boulder.

There's a reason why D&D spells are always meticulously worded.

This is a good plan too. One more good plan would be to use Eye of the Beholder on something meaty to lure the beasts out.

A restriction on maximum weight as well as volume would probably be a good idea.

@BoneyM Are there any important looking goblins around?

I get the feeling the entire room might just be filled with nothing but disposable chaff all there to lead into the monster pit which is probably filled with rat ogres and giant rats. However if there's someone important around then yeah it might really just be goblin stupidity.

Damn goblins they're so crazy it's hard to determine their motives.

[X] Sabotage the defences...
- [X] By unleashing whatever is under this floor upon the greenskins above it.

[X] Other (write in): Use doppelganger and raise the alarm with "We're being attacked by rat boys. They're attacking from behind us. They're with the Stunties." before the dwarves attack then slip out in the confusion.

I dunno, I'd nerf the "decking" part, not the weight part. I.e. dismissing the spell is not instant and takes concentration: no more combat decking but you still can do some clever tricks with it.

While this is possible, Doppelganger doesn't do the voice so it will be Mathilde doing her best Goblin impression.

A goblin with a female voice drawing attention to herself.

Once the floor is broken, how do the gribblies get out of the pit? If the goblins put them in it, then they can't get out by themselves.
