Would-Be Gods

[X] Call and find out how talking to her mother went - or didn't go.
-[X] Maybe you *shouldn't* risk leading all your stalkers to Farrah again? How about a new plan?
--[X] take a bus to somewhere with a lot of people, like a shopping or bar district, and watch to see who is still stalking you. And how many people are.

I like this better. Let's be smart. And not eaten by a dragon.

I love it, plus it's showing shes being more careful again too!

"The giant? The portals?"

"Oh, no, that's a third side." He waves his hand. "They're a temporary nuisance, hopefully. No, the Nedetakaei**, they're the sith. The fae who hate humans, who hate half-breeds, who hate -- well, everything that isn't them."

I got two things from this:

1. The sides are Greek Gods, Death Eaters, and Baby Third Option.

2. After we beat the giant into the ground, I'm thinking we might wanna finagle our way into some power with that Third faction. The other two might have solid tradition behind them but, as far as we can trust the sketchy guy harassing a teenage girl, they both seem like factions that would interrupt us getting to work on time. Which is obviously what's most important here.

Ooh, a bandwagon!

Nothing to See Here
You walk a little bit, getting a feel for where you are. Park Ave, okay. It's still early enough that all the bars are open, so you pick find a quiet corner and call Farrah.

She answers on the second ring.

"Rhi?"

"Hey,yeah. How did that talk with your mom go? You get your permission slip signed?"

"Well… Good and bad?" She sounds squirrely.

"Good and bad?"

"Mom-says-I-can't-go-visit-the-Tempest-people." She spits it out all at once. "I asked, I tried, but she says it's way too dangerous. She wants to go to the family cottage, all of us, and stay there. She says you can come. But no Tempest. None of that. I tried."

"Hey, it's okay." You don't panic. You don't. Really. "Look, it's fine. But you talked to her about—"

"I did." Now she sounds sheepish. How many animals can this girl manage? "And she said, 'is that what you've been hiding? When I said your father's mother was a shrew, honey, I wasn't just talking about her personality!'" She giggles nervously.

"See? See, that's great." You clear your throat. "Look. I'm gonna stay clear for a couple days, because I think my stalkers are multiplying and I don't want to bring them home to you and your family. Keep in touch, all right? It'll probably only be a day or two while I flush them out—"

"Don't drop them! I mean, I mean, don't drop them from too far up, okay? They got really mad about that—"

"Well, as long as they're not shooting at me," you agree ruefully. You think you see a flash of flannel. "All right. Stay safe. I'll see you soon."

"Stay safe," she echoes.

That is the longest conversation you've had on the phone since you left home. You put your phone away and scope out the bars.

That one's mostly restaurant. You could eat. You've been hungry all the time since the wing thing, which, well, okay, you're hungry a lot, but this is more.

You find a private spot and surreptitiously move your money around, so you can reach into a pocket and pull out a reasonable amount of cash. You check your reflection in a shop window — you look human, you look a little younger than you really want, and you don't look homeless. Two out of three ain't bad.

You settle down at a patio table where you can watch the street and order an appetizer, a drink, a meal, and a side. The waiter eyes you sideways.

"Training," you tell him innocently. "Track." You don't really have the body for anything else. Too bad this those who protect thing didn't give you some nice buff muscles.

He gives you a look and brings you the drink and the little bread basket.

You watch. At first, you don't see anyone. Well, anyone threatening. It takes you into the main course to see the Tempest one — you didn't recognize Red Polo Shirt out of the shirt and khakis.
You're a little disappointed that it's not Carter. You can get along with her.

Okay, that's Red. You're not sure about one guy a few tables over until he buys you a drink. He'd probably ten years older than you. Creep. You send the drink back and he slinks away.

It's only watching him go that you finally spot Jayden. They have the best hiding spot. The potted plant on their table almost completely hid them but you bet they could see everything you're doing.

Since all you're doing is eating, you're probably fine. Everyone eats. Right?

You finish your main course. You could eat dessert, easy.

--[X] Don't meet the Tempest folks tomorrow, either. Farrah's mom is a caring adult and part of, like, normal non-paranoid society. And also knew Farrah's father was fae, so she probably knows more about this stuff than Rhi does. If SHE thinks it's too dangerous for HER, she's probably right.

Our question here is, how attached are we to our job at the cafe? If we want to keep it, we have to try to get these people to see sense. Or punch them. Or get them to see sense while punching them, like an anime protagonist.

Honestly, I think we are that attached? It's a nice job with good people and we're very lonely.

That said, let's chat with Tempest. About not being dissected.

Well we're gonna have to rectify that if we're gonna drop people from higher up.
Everyone eats. Right?

GOOD!

'is that what you've been hiding? When I said your father's mother was a shrew, honey, I wasn't just talking about her personality!'
Lol wat. (Talking with parents about supernatural events is always glorious. Exhibit 1: The Dunkels from El Goonish Shive.)

The potted plant on their table almost completely hid them
Exactly as planned!

I like LadyRowyn's plan.

Only if the note says "Eat my shorts"

If we want to be really expeditious, we can hire a bod- if we beat up the giant, we should make him our bodyguard so we can keep working!

Yay, capitalism

I never advocate this except for in quests since nobody expects the indigo inquisition! Also if they dont leave after the creepy staring, they can answer "why are you stalking her" questions. Meaning the next time we fly out of reach to call the police again (he wont be arrested, maybe not even forced to leave) then theres already people on our "side".
