Shield Hero, but hopefully Heroic

[X] You just... Want to unwind for now. What is it that normal people do on their day off?

Seems no matter what we'd end up in a bad way from that demon vision. Least we didn't surefire get another red trait, right?
Maybe once we hit the RED button we were going to eat some trauma, sure but it seems kind of like we basically doubled down on character creation problems-power at the sake of scars and trauma...My worry is stack too many, especially in the early game when we're surrounded by enemies, and we might just get swapped out for someone who isn't a shambling broken husk.

I'm surprised that this shield hero hasn't unlocked a cursed series with how much trauma she has.
one isn't unlocked? Then when we grabbed that stick to finish the Spider off with...Where did the flames come from?
Canon Shield Hero Naofumi had something called the Wrath Shield which was at least one of the cursed series, and it also summoned flames that he could use to fry his foes, at the price of being surrounded by those same flames constantly while he had it out.

Way I see it, MC's basically pressed the Red Button to get out of a jam like 3-4 times already, and we just added strike no.5 or so.
Now that COULD also translate to Divines offering us their protection in a hurry if we can find them in time. But it also means we can't afford to hit the Red button again, not without MAJOR Consequences, and I mean 'we lost the arm we're supposed to have the Shield on' Consequences. And I don't want to end up a limb-less totem of heroism or hatred, depending on our mood.

Also, there are many things that I wonder. We can only use shields, but can we dual wield shields?

Can we use more than strapped shields? What about center grip shields?

Here is how I think we can improve our offensive ability with designs alone:

Both two-handed and strapped versions. Pretty straightforward: just take the edge of the shield and either sharpen it or make it pointy, if not both.

Also pretty straightforward. Maybe more difficult to make, but this is a fantasy land, so who knows.

Big spike on the face, sharp edge designed to catch swords, integral blade and gauntlet, and IIRC, it also has integral spikes for the gauntlet to hold.

A little over the top? Maybe, and we don't really need the lantern, but otherwise it seems pretty damaging.

While we're in fantasyland, why don't we combine one or more of the above with this for maximum potential?

Honestly I think the biggest difficulty might just be procuring the shields to add such options to our own/'inventing' said shields if they don't exist, which might be a possibility. Especially that Lantern shield- I would not be surprised if say, people developed some sort of low-cost light spell or enchantment instead.

What if we went to a blacksmith with some of the craziest, balls-to-the-wall-est ideas, had them make a few prototypes based on our ideas, and then had our shield copy them? Yuki's been to war, I'm sure if she picks her brain for a bit she can think of some really effective and gruesome things that can strapped to someone's wrist.

Vote Tally.

If I'm back from the hospital and functional I'll post something later.

I think the main reason it turned out so badly was because so many people voted for the RED option at the start of the vision. I THINK this was in hopes of MAXIMUM POWER and possibly healing, but we really should avoid the RED options in the future.

Our experiences with the RED options makes me leery of trying out the PURPLE options. I'm worried that it'll distort Yukihime's thinking in a different way. Maybe she becomes too ambitious and/or arrogant?

No, in my case at least it was not in a desire to see maximum power, I didn't even consider that the visions could affect that until this last update. I voted for it because constantly ignoring Yukihime's bad impulses will not help us overcome them. Also because the imagery was rad and I wanted to see it, that was a factor too.

Also, if the coloured options distort Yukihime's thinking, what's to assume that WHITE doesn't as well? Diving too far down the hero hole leads to Emiya or worse.

Red is probably the key to unlocking the Wrath series, and while I'd bet that purple unlocks Pride I still think more evidence is needed before we can make that call. White is also probably unlocking something as well, but I think it's too early to pin down what it is or whether it's good or bad. We need to see more of it and how it impacts Yuki before we know if it's good or bad, so I can't say that ignoring the white option just because colours unlock things is the right way to go.

Have we seen any other colours?

The only other color we've seen that I remember is BLACK. It showed up for "Break" and "You feel nothing". If the Cursed Shields match the seven sins, then maybe it's sloth? Otherwise, I would guess despair.

I think that WHITE is how she is without any emotions overly affecting her. It MIGHT lead to healing, or it might just be everything staying the same. Given how most options are WHITE, I'm probably going to aim for WHITE options over any colored ones.

I can agree with you about white, but then I think that (if I'm right about this) if colours are being used to represent paths to one of the Cursed series, then it doesn't make sense for black to be one of the seven since black isn't a colour. If anything, going along with your idea for white, I think black might be more of a lack of emotion.

Or black had something to do with the demon. I can't say without more instances of us getting black choices.

*Random lookups*
Pride - Purple
Envy - Green
Gluttony - Orange
Lust - Blue
Wrath - Red
Greed - Yellow
Sloth - Light Blue

Several websites list those as the associated colors for the Sins. Not sure what the common source is, though.

Allow me to confirm that WHITE is beholden to its own mental state. Just because it is the default doesn't mean it is less destructive than other colors (of which you have unlocked RED and PURPLE and now BLACK.)

Yeah im sick so no story posts for now until at least tomorrow but I'll be around to answer questions and to observe discussion.

Huh, if WHITE is a mental state too, then I wonder how we're supposed to go about trying to heal Yukihime. I was hoping that healing her body and getting her new clothes would help, but the demon encounter is a pretty big setback.

I still think that choosing RED options in the future is a bad idea, given how prevalent it already is, but maybe it wouldn't hurt to choose a PURPLE option in the future, depending on the specific option. The idea would be that everyone has some emotions that they aren't proud of. We shouldn't keep choosing PURPLE though, or that just causes another issue.

I'm staying away from the BLACK options though. William mentioned something about her energy latching onto her depression and apathy so I think that BLACK is despair, and I don't want to see Yukihime like that.
