Renascence: A Homura Quest

Honorifics or Western-style Titles? I've used both before, which is bothersomely inconsistent

It's been entirely too long...again...but at least it's finally done. I hope you enjoy it, at least.
I've never read an update of this quest I didn't enjoy.

So! Plans. I rememebr we had plans. Plans I don't remember anything about and didn't have a hand in making, anyway.

Should we tell them Walpurgisnacht is coming to wipe the city out of the face of the Earth? I mean, they might already know that but do they know how bad it will be?

I think I might need to read over from the start again, I'm lost as fuck.

Great update, just confusing, context is needed

I remember enough to have context for the immediate situation. Cute kouhai fixing Yamato of all things in some cove under Mitakihara needed help cause she wasn't bothering to hunt Witches and... can't remember why we went to the military base with her? She knows them?

I think our main goal with these girls was to keep a lid on any issues exploding and to see if we could grab some more allies in general.

I really don't know if we had more long-term plans and finding that would require re-reading the entire thread, so haha fuck no. I might re-read the story if I remembered less, but no way and I'm going through the thread again.

I'm wondering if they're having some immediate Witch issues right now? ... Dammit, now all I can picture is Homura slipping on some aviators, pulling a beer out of her shield just so she could hand it to Ruki, walking out of the room for a few minutes, then walking back in smelling like gunpowder, dropping a bunch of Seeds on the table, "I'm keeping a few of course," finally sitting back down and taking the beer back and shoving it back in her shield with the Aviators, and then stares across the table to near-audible gulps.

Dammit brain.

... You know, I know Wish stacking is part of what made Mitakihara like it is, but did Homura infuse the city with Karmic Potential as she went through her timeloops as well? (By investing herself emotional in the city itself it would give the city Karmic Weight from what I understand as that's the reason it happend to Madoka).
I doubt it, if only because Homura remembers original Mitakihara and I don't think it was much different. It's likely just a case of unusually active Incubator presence in the area over centuries for some reason.

And Homura has no idea what kind of a monster she is by normal Magi standards, does she? Fighting Mami seriously is like "I don't like my odds" and 99% of the rest of the population of Magi sound like they would go "You have odds!?"
Well, so long as we remember that Renascence Homura is not anywhere near Canon's level of overpowered BS. We don't have the inventory and we don't have nearly as efficient a time stop; Mami would wipe the floor with our Homura without so much as breaking a sweat.

Well, technically, even with her current poor form, Homura would have decent odds if she manages to get the first move. That's how broken timestop is.

Anyway, what do we want? As mentioned above, our arsenal has seen better days, and we're on a military base. Maybe we could negotiate something in order for us to intercede to Mami on their behalf? Other than that... no specific idea, beside keeping cordial relations with them, perhaps asking for a way to easily contact each other, and warn them that shit will hit the fan in a month or so.

EDIT: anyway, might as well toss a few question suggestions

[] How long have you been in Mitakihara?
[] Did you notice anything out of the ordinary since you came here?
[] Should we exchange numbers in order to contact each other?

Unless her opponent is durable enough to survive whatever ordinance Homura can bring to bear during her timestop, Honura pretty much wins by default if she can cast it? Even if she can't do so for as long as in canon, unless Mami can get a ribbon on her before she casts, she wins that fight. All the incredible skill and overwhelming firepower in the world won't stop an unblockable, unpreventable double-tap to the soul gem.

On completely unrelated news, I stumbled (or re-stumbled? I think I read a bit of it a while ago) on Veritable recently, and thus now know where Ruki is from. I'm only six months behind everyone else in this thread, yes!

... I thought that was an info worth sharing.

Other than that, no-one else for question ideas? Not sure mine are that inspired - I already struggle to ever think of potential OoC blue questions, so IC ones obviously won't go far.

Tip: Use Cyan rather than that Blue. it is almost impossible to see on the black background.

And dont overuse the Blues.

And Veritable was potential spoiled by bad management. that is all.

Anyway.

[X] How long have you been stationed in Mitakihara?
[X] Have you noticed any anomalies or anything out of the "ordinary" since coming here?
[X] What are the kind of emergencies you consider you would be deployed to handle?
[X] Your current contract is strictly Mercenary?

Ah, I am duly chastised. I'll avoid it in the future, thanks for the tip.

I think we should still ask about communication - there's a decent chance they would have suggested it anyway, but still.

That's a disclaimer I can get behind.

Veritable was one of the main reasons I finally made an account on SV, so I'll always have a soft spot for it.

"I have a few other questions."

The three of them regard you for a moment, waiting for you to go on, before Freya nods her consent.

"How long have you been stationed here?"

Freya taps briefly on the screen, looking over a calendar before nodding to herself, "78 days now. Nine days after the military girls reported the Witch attacks were becoming too much for them to handle."

You nod, "You are strictly under a mercenary contract, correct?"

Freya nods, although you notice a slight grimace from Akane, "Yes. We have obligations to secrecy and such, of course, but we are entirely separate from our employer."

"In that case, what kind of emergency would you be deployed for? Are you sent out for any major disaster, or are there particular purposes you are deployed for?"

"We are generally reserved for situations where Magi become a threat to the general public or if the Witch populace grows beyond managing."

You resist biting your lip, as you try to determine how much to share here--you wish to know if they would be deployed against Walpurgisnacht, but you must imagine that they would have in past loops, if they would be.

"I see...that's good. This growing Witch population must be happening for a reason, and your presence may be invaluable in the future. I'm sure Mami will appreciate your assistance in that event." You say with a slight edge to your voice.

They tense slightly, exchanging looks, and nod as one, Freya speaking on their behalf, "We understand. We will not disappoint her."

Accepting that, and silently apologizing to Mami for using her reputation like that, you move to the next question, "Moving on…have you noticed anything unnatural since arriving here? Phenomena that fall outside the normal boundaries of magic?"

They exchange looks, before Akane speaks up, "Not exactly…at least, we are not certain, but we encountered a strange creature a few days ago; it was, for lack of a better term, a dragon. We suspect it was a familiar capable of manifesting outside a Barrier, somehow, but it was a definite abnormality. We managed to dispatch it, thankfully. We also found a strange anomalous area--an alleyway in the shopping district where people have disappeared without a trace. We expected a Barrier, but found nothing. It has been quarantined, as a safety precaution."

She flicks the screen, and slides an image over to you, revealing a spot you recognize, only a short distance from the ice cream parlor you frequent.

"Please do let us know if you find anything out about it. Besides that, we've noticed some odd events, but nothing definitively abnormal."

You tap on the image file and email it to yourself for later, "I will. Thank you for letting me know about it. I believe that will be my last question, for now, but I think it would be best if we could get in contact easily. Email and phone information might help with that."

Akane nods immediately, bringing up a file with her contact info and sliding it over to you. You email that to yourself, and return the favor, quickly typing in your info. The other two and Ruki, falling into the flow of things, follow suit.

With that done, you turn to the real business at hand, "I will speak to Mami on your behalf, and we will all meet again soon. I think we will be able to make this work out very well."

Freya bows slightly, "Thank you, Miss Akemi. We will look forward to it."

Satisfied, you return the bow and take your leave, Ruki trailing behind you.

The two of you begin making your way out, Rose blurring over to fall in beside you and lead you out. As you step into the hall, she seems to relax, "Whew. Serious stuff. I hope we can get to be friends in the future, even if it's all business right now."

You nod, slightly, but say nothing else.

Ruki, next to you, sighs slightly before responding to Rose, "Yeah, I hope so. Are they always like…?"

Rose shakes her head, "Not…always. Akane, usually, but not Freya. What about…?"

Ruki shrugs, and you smirk slightly, drawing Rose's attention, "Hey! You're just messing with me!"

You throw her a smug look, and she pouts, fuming, "Oh, geeze, here we go again. Why does everyone tease me?"

You and Ruki exchange looks, and she chuckles slightly, going to answer Rose…only to go silent, as a throat clears nearby.

You turn towards the source of the noise, and find tall, heavily muscled American (or so you assume) in a suit, regarding you with a bit of a grimace, "Pardon my interruption, but I've been asked to deliver an invitation to the three of you, on behalf of the United States Department of Defense; the Direct of Dissonant Development would like to speak to you about a potential agreement, if you are willing to meet. The Director is leaving tomorrow, so I'm afraid the meeting will need to be right away."

Rose growls her response out, "Nope. I've got no interest in talking to her, and she knows it." She looks over at the two of you, "It's up to you if you want to talk things over, but I'd be careful about trusting these people too much."

You nod, exchanging looks with Ruki, and give your answer.

[ ] Yes, you will meet with the Director.
[ ] No, you will not.

[X] Yes, you will meet with the Director.

No, we won't commit to anything until we hear all the details. Not getting a feel for who she is and what she wants, and definitely not before talking with Mami about it.
