Onmyodo Monogatari (Japanese Heian-era fantasy)

[x]: I recite the chant my father told me, to awaken the small gods of various things, to talk to the carriage itself. Perhaps it knows what is going on? Or can help us?
[x]: Yes! I give my talisman to Tomiko. I'm trained for strange things, after all, and know mantras to protect myself if there is something bad happening!

[X]: I lean back, take a few deep breaths, and open up my second sight.

[x]: No! I don't give my talisman to Tomiko. I'm scared, this is dangerous, and i'm not very good at mantras! If i have to go do something, it'd be more dangerous without the talisman!
[X]: I recite the Shurangama mantra, a very long mantra which is said to protect from all harm.
[x]: I gently push Tomiko aside, then push the blinds aside to look outside, see what is happening.
[x]: I call out to Tsuzura. If she really is a spirit, perhaps she can hear me and help me?

The Tenth
Carefully, you take the talisman from inside your robes and slide it into Tomiko's robes. You push her aside, se gently as you can, and you turn to the side of the carriage, pressing your palms together, a symbol of greeting. You bow as much as you can in the small carriage, and carefully incant the chant you were taught by your father.
On the flower-decorated wooden wall of the carriage, a face emerges, that of a rough-looking man with a beard and big, bushy brows.

"Honored Carriage," you say, feeling ever-so-slightly self-concious. "Can you tell me what is happening?"
The Face gives a big nod, then, creaking and rustling, the whole carriage turns, first one way, then the other, as if… looking? Then the face speaks, with a voice like creaking and breaking wood.
"There is a creature out there. It is hungry. My ox lies on the ground, red water all around it. There is another carriage down the street. My driver is on the ground, with just a little bit of red water around it, and the creature is moving towards him. He is moving away from it, but it is almost on him. "

What do you do?
[ ]: I step out of the carriage, to fight the creature or do something else. Exactly what depends on what happens when i step out. Perhaps i can surprise it with a mantra?
[ ]: I ask the carriage to get us away! To my father's house, where we'll be safe!
[ ]: I ask the carriage to get us away! Home! I'm scared and tired and the palace is full of people who can help!
[ ]: I ask the carriage to get Tomiko away, then i step out to fight the creature or help Jun-dono.
[ ]: I bless the carriage to protect us, before i do anything else! This will probably take a few moments!
[ ]: I ask the carriage to run over the creature! Who knows if it can be hurt by something like that?
[ ]: I do something else! Write in!

[X]: I ask the carriage to get Tomiko away, then i step out to fight the creature or help Jun-dono.

This is a bad idea

Let's do it

[X]: I ask the carriage to get Tomiko away, then i step out to fight the creature or help Jun-dono.

Mistakes are but a part of life; might as well be the time to make one now.

[x]: I bless the carriage to protect us, before i do anything else! This will probably take a few moments!

Making sure our method of escape isn't going to break when we need it is important.

Questions are not open right now. That's for when you have plenty of time, not when seconds may (or may not?) mean life and death. IF you want to ask the carriage more questions, do that as a write-in.

Guys, what more likely to win a fight? A huge amount of wood at a decent speed or a surprised animal? Alternately a small scared child or a hungry predator?

[X]: I ask the carriage to run over the creature! Who knows if it can be hurt by something like that?

Keep rollin' rollin' rollin'

Alright

Judging by

He's crawling for his life, which means he's not holding at all

Hmm...so we need to rescue him ASAP

I prefer warding the carriage first before using it to roadkill something.

Will these works? The warding should give it more power when we crash it.

Hm, Tomiko at least has the talisman protecting her, so worst case I suppose we can still try to fight it on foot if the carriage crash doesn't work out.

As a reminder, you're welcome to vote for multiple things if you'd like. If you think stepping out to fight is dumb, you can just vote for both bless and crash, for example
