After thinking about this, the empathic link, if it deepens, could be the basis of a durable emotional bond, while the thoughts option fits better for a traditional master and familiar. (You only need words to give orders, but you need emotions to sympathize.)

We still haven't introduced her to parenthesis, and I think that's terribly rude. If Ariela starts absentmindedly quaffing potatos sometimes instead though, that's fine too.
