I've been thinking that Aspects should have more narrative effects (a recursive process, since it is from narrative that they are born). The characters have huge FP pools that permit a lot of fluidity as well.
They are fairly firmly embedded near the heart of the combat mechanics though.

Alt: Pride and Prejudice and Ninja

Of course, the most evil part was still the telescope merchant.
During a partial draft, I nearly went with "Just As Well the Nara Are So Open-minded".

They are fairly firmly embedded near the heart of the combat mechanics though.
True. But right now they are mostly irrelevant unless we start running a lot more social combats (and I've mentioned why I think that would be problematic).

Edit: Reading comprehension failure. Ignore the crossed-out section.

I bet the orgy rumor was Hanabi's plot somehow. In the midst of all this speculation and confusion, nobody even noticed how she got replaced by Hinata halfway through the night. What was she up to in our house, while we knew not to look for her? Jashin knows.
@Velorien, I am assuming these are actually typos.
"Because I wouldn't want to condemn someone without evidence. Would you, Hinata?"

"I bet it's Chōji and Hinata," Yamanaka said unexpectedly. "Chōji's spent half the game backing Hinata up on everything, and she was pretty fierce arguing for him that round he got accused."

"If we have to pick one, I'd say Chōji's more suspicious. Hinata's been talking constantly, while Chōji's mostly sitting back and listening. It's like he's been hiding in her shadow."

"Hinata might be a yakuza, but at least she's been giving us all plenty of opportunities to watch her body language and tone of voice and stuff for hints. Chōji's been doing the opposite. I'm convinced."

"It's Hinata. She's been building up to this all along."

"If you think Hinata's a yakuza—which she blatantly is—then we have to execute Chōji first. Then she kills one of us, the remaining three vote for her, and Team Innocent wins. What do you say, Lee, Kurenai-sensei?"

"Is this for real, Hinata?"

"Is it really such a big deal?" Hinata replied.

Fascinating update, @Velorien. Interactions between Keiko and Jiraiya are an unexplored goldmine, Jibura's departing was as heartbreaking as expected, Shiori's Creative Interpretations were amusing, and Hanabi was adorable.

Hana and Kagome bonding over teaching promises to be interesting as well. I just hope Noburi doesn't end the world before we could see the results. (It is, after all, apparent at this point that he snapped and went missing-nin again.)
WE MISS THE TELESCOPE MERCHANT??!!!
Tenth time, if I'm counting correctly. But not to worry, he always comes back, even if we never meet. It's our fate.
Inb4 we try to build an Outcome Pump based on our inability to buy telescopes. Inb4 telescopes are shifted away.

I meant the physical combat mechanics as well, actually.

Socially, you're quite right. Formal social combat is a big mess to model everytime these folks have a pointed chit chat. It also wouldnt really be simulationist. While I'm on the topic, whats your opinion on the social stats effecting things narratively?

I wish we knew more about what Jirayia was thinking. I'm very unsure what the relationship between Jirayia and Mari actually is; while Big J was probably pretty OK with founding a clan, and Mari has definitely been useful to him, I'm not sure if he signed up for this entire emotional maintenance shtick. Dropping that on him when he's in middle of something big (see Noburi, or lack thereof) I'm sure he's annoyed, and that's fine. Just hope that 1. he can get over that today because Mari does *not* need to feel like a burden right now, and 2. that it doesn't transform into something chronic.

Unrelated: Keiko negotiating a Chakra Chameleon was glorious. And Ino's internal monologue being full of innuendo... You need to get laid girl.

To be avoided for the same reasons, but moreso. Limiting characters' social interactions to what's on their sheets would be horribly restrictive both for us and for them, and characterisation would be limited by XP pools. It would also mean a trade-off between people having good social skills and good combat skills, which makes sense mechanically but not for real people.

Edit: Keiko being anything other than utterly obliterated in any argument with Hana or Jiraiya is a good example.

Do you want Hana to get flung out of a burning building by a gas explosion?
"Dear Mizukage, I regret to inform you that your sister has passed away. Unfortunately, despite my warnings, she decided to smoke in the explosive-gas-filled-purifier-seal storage section of the diplomats' quarters. With deepest condolences, Jiraiya."

Preliminary plan:

[X] Action Plan: Training & Research

Morning:
  • Spend a few hours researching casino seals

Afternoon:
  • Have Eibsu evaluate what we need to train in mock battles.

I of course will not deign to actually write up/maintain a plan, but I hereby offer up to the thread the perfect plan name to express my own desires:

[] Action Plan: It's called a time-skip, not a time-crawl
<Some plan covering at least a week of time>

Agreed. I will vote for any plan which involves a time skip of at least a week which I am pinged about and notice before voting closes.

@MMKII , We should also try to track down information on our opponents in the tournament:

Team Mugiwara (Hot Springs)
Kotsuzui Kenji: Member of the Kotsuzui Clan, wielders of the Blood Element Bloodline Limit and legendary hunter-nin.
Kashiwagi Noriko: Member of the Kashiwagi minor clan.
Minawa Ichirō: Member of the Minawa Clan, support specialists who wield the Inner Fire Bloodline Limit. (Noburi addendum: These guys are said to be Hot Springs's answer to the Wakahisa, but they don't wear barrels.)

We don't know anything about the Kashiwagi clan or if any of the Sand ninja are clan ninja.

Clear Communication no Justu doesn't quite work on outsiders who don't know what it's actually is.
Quite right. Removed.

Edited. Instead of specifics, I'll say "Try to track down info on potential opponents in the tournament."

I believe the following may include a few things that some or all of you want.

Two things I think you are missing:

1. I still think Hazou should request some training from Hana. She'll enjoy seeing how much he's grown and it's possible there are Iron Nerve related stunts that are applicable to both Taijutsu and Kenjutsu.

2. Research Hazou's opponent. We got the Tournaments brackets for a reason. Make some effort to find out what her 'minor clan' ability is and how she fights. Remember how ninja combat can be rock-paper-scissors. Would be real embarrassing to fall to some technique that we could have beaten easily if only we had properly prepared.

I mean, we have the brackets. We know who he might potentially face and who he probably won't face.

@MMKII wouldn't it be better if we apologise to all the guys who were present at the game night or at least ensure that they understand that it was all a misunderstanding.

If to ever reaches their parents' ears they will see it as a joke in poor taste.

Edit: this could be the pretext to meet them to find out about who spread the idea. It is important for Hazó to do so as while we know that it was all a misunderstanding, from Hazó's perspective it could also have been malicious attempt to discredit them.
