Demon Hunter Quest

You are on your way to school. Today is the first day of the school year, and you are looking forward to an eventful year in high school. You are now a second-year student, being a seventeen-year-old teenager. You still have much time left before you can start worrying about looking for a college to go after you graduate from high school.

Your name is Kouga Kishimura, and you are in a good mood. Things looking well for you as a high school student, with friends to interact with, with things to be learned, with romance to be pursued...

*GWAAKKHHH*

And the loud screeching noise ruined your mood. Each time you thought you could go through a day without having some stinking demons ruining it, they would always appear right before you, showing their ugly mugs to you and preparing themselves for a delicious meal in the form of a totally normal high-school student.

"Geez, I know I smell delicious, but this is just getting annoying..." you grumble as you stand before a huge feathery demon shaped like a bird, only that it is around the size of a truck. Scratching your head, you fish out a talisman from your pocket before you hold it out. "C'mon now... I don't want to waste my time here and come late at school at the first day, you know?"

As you squeeze the talisman in your hand, light erupts from your clenched fist before a sword made of light appears in your hand. The bird demon before you let out a startled noise as it saw the seemingly normal teenager before it summoning an anti-demon blade.

"So, are you gonna stand there, or are you gonna fight?" You taunt the demon before you, taking a stance as you hold your sword with both hands. The bird demon seems apprehensive upon seeing the blade in your hands, but then it let out a loud screech as it launches itself forward, preparing to swallow you whole as it opens its beak wide.

"This is what I'm talking about! Raaaaaaahhhhh!!!"

It turns out that the bird demon is just a pushover. The demon let out a death wail as its feathery body dissipates into black particles, dissolving into nothingness, leaving behind its huge beak and an eyeball, as well as a few black feathers. Sighing, you pick up your loot, studying the beak and the slimy eyeball before you dump them into your bag of holding, one of the convenient things that most demon hunters have. And when you study the black feathers, you raise an eyebrow, noting that they have quite an interesting texture.

Perhaps you can get some cash out of this. You plan to visit Old Man Deidara once the school ends. Sighing, you dump the feathers into your bag of holding, keeping them for later. You have already dismissed your anti-demon sword, which has reverted back into its talisman form, and you put it back into your pocket.

"Welp, better hurry now. The gate's closing in three minutes!"

So, you rush over to the direction of Tomei High School, hoping that you can reach the gate before Kuwabara-sensei closes it. You don't want to listen to his lecture on your first day at school since he tends to ramble a lot.

...

Well, you managed to reach the gate before Kuwabara-sensei closed it. But now you are panting hard since you've been running to reach the gate. At the very least, you arrived just on time. Since today is the first day of school, the students will attend the school's assembly. You sigh, hoping that your legs won't fall asleep during the principal's speech.

"Good morning, Kouga-kun!"



You hear a familiar voice from behind. You turn around and see a familiar face wearing a tomboyish ponytailed pink hair. You smile as you regard your childhood friend and neighbor, Mika Otonashi. Like you, she is also a second-year student. Pretty active in sports, and is the ace of Tomei in track and field.

"Hah... g-good morning, Mika-chan," you say between pants. Blinking, Mika studies you, noting how tired you look. "I-it's been a while..." You didn't see her during the winter vacation due to you having special training at London in order to improve yourself as a demon hunter.



"Wow... you look like you've just ran an entire marathon..." Mika says, looking concerned by how drenched in sweat you are. "What happened? Did you wake up late again?"

"Uh..."

You shrug after you hear Mika's question. "Well, the usual thing. A demon showed up and made a fool of itself while I was on my way to school. Nothing serious," you tell your childhood friend.



"Ah, I'm so sorry to hear that..." Mika says, looking concerned. "At the very least, you're safe."

You grin at her. "Those small fries are nothing against me. Just poke 'em with my anti-demon sticks, and bam, free loot."



"Geez... try to be concerned about your well-being for once, okay?" Mika sighs. "I mean, it's good that you're pretty strong now, but there are a lot of stronger demons out there. I don't want you to bite more than you can chew."

Well, she's right. Like you, Mika is also from a clan of demon hunters, but unlike you, she doesn't seem to be all that interested in becoming a demon hunter. Sure, she may be able to see demons and can use the innate power of a demon hunter, but she seems to be more focused on the mundane things in life. To be fair, you want to experience normalcy too.



"Well, let's put those things behind. Make sure to be careful next time, okay?" Mika says. "Let's get going. The assembly should start soon."

"Alright, let's go," you nod before you head into the school, walking alongside your childhood friend. Due to how close you are with Mika, you seem to have drawn the envy of other male students. The fact that Mika is also quite popular among the students in Tomei High School certainly doesn't help. But there's nothing you can do about it, considering that Mika is your closest friend here in the school.

After surviving the assembly, you check where your class is. And you're pretty lucky that you are in the same class as Mika, sitting next to her. Of course, this earns you the ire of your male classmates, a thing that you're already used to since last year.



"Good morning, class!! Let's hope we have a happy school year this time!" Your homeroom teacher, Megumi Kishima, rather known as Kishima-sensei, addresses the whole class during the homeroom session. Pretty cute for someone who is 25 years old.



"Since some of you still don't know me, let me introduce myself first," the teacher says. "My name is Megumi Kishima. You can call me Kishima-sensei or Megumi-sensei, whichever is fine. You can even call me Sensei-chan too, if you like," she beams cheerfully at her class. "Besides being your homeroom teacher, I also teach you Biology, so if you have some stuff you don't understand, just ask me."

"Sensei, a question," a male student raises his hand. "Are you single?"



"Eh?" Kishima-sensei blinks in bewilderment after hearing that question. She doesn't seem to be expecting that from any of her students. Some students, male ones mostly, are snickering.



"Geez, that's no good, you know?" Kishima-sensei pouts. "Teasing your teacher like that. You should respect your elders, you know?"



"But... answering that question, who know? Perhaps I'd love to have a young boyfriend? Hehehe~" she giggles. For some reason, you feel chills down your spine, and other boys seem to be sharing the same thing. Perhaps teasing Kishima-sensei isn't a good idea, after all.



"Now then... let's take our attendance before we can start our lesson. For those whose names are called out please respond~"

And so, the homeroom session ends. Time passes by rather quickly, and before you know it, the school session has ended. You can decide whether to get yourself into clubs or head home.



"Hey, Kouga-kun. Wanna head to town?" Mika asks you, slinging her bag over her shoulder. "We can go and enjoy karaoke."

"Hmm..." you consider your option. You can stay at school to join the club here or walk around the school to see something interesting. You can also go to karaoke with Mika. Or you can just head home.
