Through the Eyes of Others: An Orc Quest

[X] Refuse. Finder's keepers, you filthy tarks.

Oh my, please people, context clues. There's a boy in that group, who from his description, seems to want nothing at all to do with this. He was probably forced into whatever raiding party this is by whoever's in charge.

Killing the two men to save this kid is way to much trouble, but letting any of the children die, the girl and the boy, makes my stomach tie into a knot.

The best case scenario is that we scare them off.

Don't be so ready to make murder the first option!

Just for clarification, but does 'Kill Them' mean also killing the girl? I'm assuming it means killing the two men and the boy.

[X] Kill them. They know you're here now and there's no guarantee that they'll not come back for the bounty on you or kill you anyway once they have the girl.
-[X] Pretend to leave, then ambush them when their guard is down and they're distracted.

Eat goblin shit, tarks. If you don't feel like that, then you can eat my blade.

Very interest!

I was looking for something good and quick to quickly harge up my creative impulses a bit, and remembered this exists! Just what i needed.

Yeah let's not jump to murder.

You look at the three of them and consider the options in front of you. You could run away like some cowardly little rabbit. But… You don't like the look of them. They're hunting on your turf, regardless of whether they know it or not. And even if you did leave, they'd probably come back for you eventually. So no. No, you don't want to give them what they're asking before. Besides, they're just pissant men. And they're in the dark, too. Without the torch they're helpless. Almost lazily, you bring your blade up and rest the blunt back of the blade against your shoulder. Then, you smile a very toothy smile, challenging them as you finally reply to them in their own tongue.

"Nar. I don't think yer gettin' 'er. I found 'er and that means I get ter do what I like with 'er. And that don't mean givin' 'er to a bunch o' slobs like you lot. Lettin' a slip of a thing get away from yer like that! Skai1! It's downright saddenin'. But then, yer tarks ain'tcher?" The words drip from your mouth with contempt and you can feel the blood starting to pound a little in your head. Now, the question is what will happen next. The leader--Keller--scowls at you, his round face starting to get red instead of it's normal, paler shade. Ha. Always funny to see that.

"Animal. I didn't have to give you a bloody chance but I did--! Grummett, Andin, get rid of that thing and let's get out o' here quick," he barks the order and you hear the girl below you gasp, perhaps choking back a sob as she's argued over like some trinket or bauble. That's not important, though. These men might be robbers, even murderers. You're born and raised a killer.

As the words leave Keller's mouth you lunge forward, faster than they probably expect. Ducking low, almost on instinct, you manage to get beneath the point of the older man's sword and then rise up to slam one shoulder into him. He stumbles and lets out a wheeze of shock and pain. One sharp-nailed hand closes on the wrist with the torch and tugs sharply to throw him off balance and you follow through with a short, sharp chop of your blade that comes across your body to meet his neck as you tug him forward. A soft gurgling sound follows and the torch drops to the ground along with its bearer. It begins to gutter and dance, flickering fire-light throwing grotesque shadows around the small clearing.

The leader is gone but there are two more left and you need to move fast before they get over the shock of the sudden violence. The tall one--Grummet--is lunging forward, swinging his sword wildly, almost panicked, as he tries to catch you with the blade. You duck back, stepping over the body of the dying man beneath you and as Grummett tries to follow you he slips, boot failing to find purchase in the small pool of blood spreading around his former leader. That's all it takes for you to dart forward and bring your bloodied sword down into his shoulder and chest. That leaves one more--the boy. The pale, shaky one.

Struggling to tug your blade free of the most recent victim, you half-turn, straining. For a moment you think he's gone, run off. His blow hits you in the side and you wheeze as the breath is driven out of you--luckily you're wearing your armor and the metal plates take most of the sword stroke. There'll be a bruise to show for that later, though. Better to leave the sword. You snarl, just to let him know you're not deat yet and lunge at him. Foolish boy. He didn't follow through. He thought he had you dead to rights and didn't reckon that he might not kill you with that stroke. Your fingers reach out as you bear down on him and you're straddling him now, fingers pressing down against his throat, shoving his head back into the dirt and the sweet-smelling grass.

"Yer just had t'come in 'ere with your stupid tark business--!" You hiss down at him, shuddering with the effort. He's flailing, trying to shove at you, to keep you off of him--but there's no help for him. "Hoshat2! Hoshat. It'll be…" You grunt. "It'll be done wit' soon."

And it is.

Panting, you shove yourself up to your feet and stoop to finally wrench your blade free. You scowl, the spit on the body of Keller.

"Yer made me do that!" You snarl at the dead body and give it a kick, then take a breath. Ai! It hurts to take a breath and you gingerly feel your side now that some of the adrenaline is starting to ease. There's a bruise there, at least. Maybe a cracked rib. And the plate is dented--you'll need to patch and repair this somehow. But that's for another time.

Your train of thought is interrupted when you hear the girl whimper. She's still sitting where you left her, eyes wide and staring at the mess you've made on the path. Gar. Of course. You reach down and grab her by the wrist with an iron grip and haul her to her feet. You squint in the still flickering torchlight, trying to get a better look at her.

"You. What's yer name?" You bark the words at her and she shivers in fear. Though whether it's because of you or the sight of the killing, you're not sure.

"A-a-a-a…" She stutters, trying to force the name out from between trembling lips. Then she swallows and manages to speak. "Alagossien."

"Gar. Ala-go-syen? That's a proper mouthful," you mutter. "Yer Syen for now, then." Well. That business is done. Now what?

[ ] Question Syen about who she is and where she came from. Why is she out here making a bother of herself?
[ ] Drag Syen back the way she came to see what this is all about.

[ ] Tell Syen to stay put while you search the bodies of the men you just killed.

Questions can come later. Get anything useful off of these guys, then you can talk. Otherwise someone else might show up and you'll have to leave any decent loot behind!

Lets see to loot or to question the girl? Oh dice what do you have to say

Edit. To question it is.

I think Loot would spook her, and well. I think we might have gone a little strong there.

Shinies! Besides, who knows, there's a slight it might give you relevant information about Syen, whom you have plenty of time to question. She's not going anywhere.

Would questioning her while we loot be a valid write-in? Might put her off some, but seems more efficient.

If it's a coloration issue due to porting over from another writing tool, you'll go back to default-for-theme colours if you select the little X in the font colour drop down's lower right corner.

-[X] Ask her to keep her eyes and ears out for anyone else while you only take useful items that can be easily transported.

We may have to hightail it out of this area if more humans are coming, so anything we can grab and go will be useful. We don't really need her as a lookout, but it should keep her mind off her likely-murdered parents for the time being. After we're done, we can ask her what happened.
