The Triforce of Courage decided it would focus on the what the locals of this world called the Kingdom of Mistral, and wanted to go with someone young. The younger they were the less they would question when their time to awaken the Triforce occurred. Much better it realized that it had lowered the number of potential prospects down to four. The first was a young boy that was in the village of Kuroyori, a precocious young lad, that appeared to be well cared for by his mother and father. His father was a hunter of beasts, the kind that put meat on the table apparently instead of the other beasts. He had taken his son on a couple hunts but had never demanded or tasked his son to do anything on those trips. Perhaps the father was hoping for the boy to show some initiative or grit, which as things stood now it looked like the boy was ready to follow in his mother's path as a baker at this point in time but the Triforce could provide some measure of courage and lead him down a warrior's path instead. The Triforce heard his name, Lie Ren.
The second was a child that was the son whose parents had died in the wilderness and now lived with his uncle who is a member of the city guard. Driven by the loss of his parents he practices with the sword and bow that were once theirs. He wanders through the woods and the city, dedicated to learning how to handle himself in a fight as well as the laws of the city from his Uncle. His adventures would likely lead him into much trouble if not for the aid of his friend who was looking out for him from getting in over his head. Strong of mind and heart, the Triforce saw that the boy had no one to train him in his weapons and his instinct to charge in could well be the end of him at an early age but the Triforce could help him develop the instincts to use any weapon the boy wished. The Triforce heard his name, Celadon Nottingham.
The third child, a member of a bandit group, his mother had stolen her away from home, fleeing the Kingdom of Mistral because of his father's actions. They had wandered as nomads for a few years before eventually being attacked and captured by bandits. Faced with a choice to prove their strength or be sold into slavery, they had fought for their lives but neither one had won against their opponent. The bandit leader saw potential in the two and decided that their efforts were enough to keep them as part of the band. The boy learned to fight with his whole body and earn a place in the band that held him and his mother hostage. The boy was at the crossroads of his life, if he would accept a life of banditry or if he would deny it and begin to walk his own path. The Triforce of Courage could help him make that decision and hopefully come to the right answer. The Triforce heard his name, Brick Mason.
The final child a street rat in the capital city of Mistral, the boy had no family and had never known them. Part of city's infamous underground community he had been raised in a brothel, picked up by a thieve's ring when he was seven, surrounded by the liars, cheaters, and murderers, for most of his life. The boy lived in poverty and saw the great wealth of Mistral's finest as well as those willing to go to any measure in order to achieve the things that they would desire. The skills he learned led him to wield the dagger-pistol, to creep through the shadows, to strike when the foe's guard has been lowered. The Triforce could see that this boy's destiny would lead through darkness and there was no guarantee that he would eventually find his way into the light nor that he was deserving of one day finding it. The Triforce heard his name, Midnight.
