• You rocked that thread, it never ends well when liberals start cheering on imperialism, if you ask me its partly a strange sort of self-sacrifice as Maduro is 'one of them' and they therefore need to expiate the left of his sins.

American foreign policy if you look at the documents, has a few goals.

    1. Protect the US and US citizens
    2. Protect US allies
    3. Bring freedom and Democracy to the world
    4. Advocate capitalism and free trade
    5. Protect human rights

3 is where the problems start, they think it's morally ok to bring "freedom" to other countries. Which is a very narcissistic viewpoint, reminds me of pro gun guys who want pro gun laws in other countries.

4 is questionable, capitalism and free trade are just like any other natural forces. I'm for a mixed economy and I think as we go along I'll be switching more to the left. Free trade has upsides and downsides.

If you ask me, the US, EU and Russia aren't super much different, as they're all democracies with Russia being the most conservative and US the most liberal and I'm not sure why NATO thinks going against Russia is a good idea, when we have China rising and they'd far more vicious then the US could ever hope to be, with the same level of power and are already engaged in what is basically economic imperialism
The most troubling thing of all is the apparent appalling lack of actual geopolitical understanding in favor of "Pax Americana can do whatever it feels like and has virtual ownership of Europe and therefore can give away piecemeal portions to appease nations that do not have strategic clashes in need of appeasement."

Yup. Also, aggressive acts by other nations are taken to be evidence that such nations are monsters who must be opposed, but if the US does something like ... destroy Iraq, there's no corresponding expectation.
