    Your Signature said:
Self is not a story, it is an "emergent property of material foundations, with experiential feed-back loops", and those feedback loops are the stories.
This is interesting, and I don't entirely agree with it!

My contention is actually one of word choice. The term 'self' is fundamentally a useful semantic tool, referring to 'the properties of an agentive structure which can reasonably be expected to transfer between contexts'. Emergent properties are defined by their lack of existence in any other context, which is obviously incompatible with this definition.

On the other hand, I agree with the point I believe you're trying to make, which is "much of human decisionmaking is rooted in stuff like bodystate and physical environs, and notwithstanding the value of not entangling these with your self-worth, it's a very bad idea to forget their influence".

    Thoughts?

(A signature may not be a lot for me to base this on, but I expect we have a lot in common.)
