    I was reading Good People (very good, btw) and was pondering how the Worm setting is basically dumbed-down Shadowrun with a double portion of teenage angst.

    Kaijus replace all of the natural and unnatural disasters. Parahuman powers take the place of magic and cyberware. Cauldron replaces all of the conspiracies. Med hall is the only corporation mentioned. Case-53s replace all of the other races. The PRT replaces basically all of Federal law enforcement. There's no matrix or astral planes or other species.

    It's like Wildbow cut out half of the setting and then over-simplified what remained.

    It's more that they just fit the same niche of "Urban Fantasy." In Worm, that fantasy is superheroes, rather than magic, but it's still there. It's why the fusion has come so naturally so far; in both Worm and Shadowrun, the Undersiders are a team of criminal mercenaries (since, in Worm, they were on Coil's retainer rather than a proper gang.)

    I'm really proud of what I was able to achieve with Ghost in the Flesh, both with what I wrote and how I wrote it. I'd never attempted something on that scale before, and I highly doubt I'll ever manage something on that scale again.
