• I've been making progress on starting up my second quest, but its been difficult really making the push to finish it up. Have some doubts whether I can manage two quests or if people will like it all that much. Thinking of posting what I have so far on the quest ideas thread or something to see if people are interested but unsure on that.
Just started my second story thread. It might mess with my writing scheduling later, but it feels nice to have more than one thing to write about.
SV fics, I'm not sure how if there is a general vibe I've got. It feels like a strange mixture of SB and Ao3 to me, good and bad from both. There's gamey and feelsy stuff from both, and I've seen a lot of interesting topics get explored here that I don't see in other communities. Quests seem much more prominent here as well compared to other works. Continued in thread

Now, this is completely conjecture here and I can be 100% wrong, but I think due to the smaller community, it's both more connected but also a bit more... I don't want to say cliquey but big names and threads can do a lot here. There's very popular stories here that I've seen get lambasted on other communities or wouldn't have nearly the same popularity.

I guess I can say SV is definitely more... curated? It's both open to a lot more and not due to the type of community fostered here. Which can be either really good or bad, it's hard to put to words my thoughts on this. But anyways, that's the end of me comparng fanfic sites, to the one person reading this.
Royalroad and fimfiction I have little experience with. I know royalroad tends to have a community that prefers original fiction and publishing, especially progression/litrpg stuff, but little besides that. I've read some good fics on fimfiction and that's about it. All other sites I know little about or are a bit too niche. Might add one more post about SV(spicy) though.
I honestly have no idea about Wattpad. It's a very big site, but every time I've read something there its always been trash and at best guilty pleasure stuff. There have supposedly been big stories there, and it's not just a fanfic site, but yeah I don't know. It just feels like a place where people just throw out random stuff in, like the worst of AO3 and fanfiction . net.
Fanfiction . net is the home of edgelord and harem fics. There are a lot of gems in there, but you have to dig through piles of garbage for them. Some of the fics there really shows their age with the cliches and tropes they use as well. I don't think it's quite as bad as wattpad, and I can enjoy an edgy, gloomy curbstomping fic sometimes, but yeah. I'll stop for tonight though.
Spacebattles writing tends to be more solid but at times feels a bit "gamey". I'm not sure how to word it exactly. There's not as much as the godawful stuff on other sites, but there's a loooot more stuff revolving around super logical powerscaling everyone else is super dumb but my MC and their friends. In very light doses, this is fine, and Spacebattles has a lot of iconic stuff, but the average is tiring to read.
A lot of AO3 fics are very... feelsy. At least the mid-popular ones. This can be both a really good or really bad thing. A fic written well in that style has great character writing and relationships. A fic written badly gets really tiring to read when a character has a breakdown every two sentences. AO3 has A LOT of fics, but this is a recurring trend I've seen. They also love betrayals and character bashing.
Something I've noticed after reading way too much fanfiction on various sites is that there tends to be a certain culture and/or writing style in each of them. There are of course exceptions, especially the ones who post on all of them and everyone knows about, but it's noticeable enough that I think I'm not seeing things. I think. I'll expand on the next posts.
Just submitted an OC Sinner to someone's Limbus Fic. Was very interesting and sort of helped conceptualize my OC as well. Might be awkward if I ever get around to writing that Limbus fic, but I suppose I'll get to it when I get to it.
I was once thinking of starting up, not sure how to refer to it, a story starting during the time period in some fantasy settings where gods, demons, spirits, and other beings are first being created and formed from the primordial chaos/ether. It was a little vague, and I didn't know where to take it, but it's definitely been on my radar for a while.
It's something I'm doing in my current quest sort of, but I was thinking of writing a story/quest about an empire of ant-like species expanding against species from various animal types. Its always been my (unfounded) opinion that a lot of what we attribute to human's specific intelligence/quirks aren't tied to sapience itself, and it would be intriguing to explore different types of behavior.
Hmm, lost(and I think regained?) some watchers on my quest. Sort of unsure if it was because of my most recent update or something else about the quest, but surprising after it had remained stable for a while. Wish I could hear some feedback on that, but I guess I shouldn't think on it much. It's difficult knowing if what I'm putting out is good or not, but all I can do is keep writing I suppose.
Another quest idea I forgot to mention. I was thinking of writing out a "Hero Maker" quest where you play as a somewhat nebulous force of good against evil that picks out potential heroes to fight against various problems. Voters would choose how to make an appearance, whether to be a mysterious messenger or mentor that vanishes, and more. Sounds fun, but it needs a long view that I haven't spent the time on yet.
I think one thing that stops a lot of my writing ideas is my inclination to follow canon for fanfiction. I'm of the stance that while headcanon is fine and necessary at times, adhering to canon when you can is really important. It's easy for stories to lose cohesion and integrity when they stop doing it. Which sucks because I'm very lazy in consuming original sources and media. Any opinions?
One thing I'm very painfully aware of is that there's no way I can write all of these ideas unless I can somehow spend all my time doing this. I don't know. If someone has experience managing multiple quests at once, feel free to share your thoughts on that. Maybe if I drastically change something about my writing process...
I've got a lot of other ideas, but I'll just say one more to move on. I've flirted with dungeon core/litrpg stuff, but I think the only way I'll do it is if I start a story off with a dungeon core that already has like one hundred floors. Stories I've read make things SO slow and take 200 chapters to upgrade 1 floor. I mostly want to explore what it's like to be a strong dungeon and its politics/societal role.
Another is a hive mind fic, where several people in the world link up together after experiencing a similar trigger event at the same time. The scope of this is very big though and I'd have to headcanon a lot, and given I never finished Worm… yeah. Also a while back I had the idea of an alt world version of Touhou protagonists being part of the ABB, but I put it aside after struggling on powers/certain plot stuff.
So, I've been around SV and SB for a bit, and I definitely came up with some fic ideas for Worm. They're a bit out there tbh. One of them is an Alexandria fic of her being transported to the RWBY world during the time of Ozma/Salem after the brother gods did their thing. I put it aside after not really being able to figure out shard mechanics and how her power might work over thousands of years.
Last quest is a original setting one, which will 99% be my next quest. Don't want to reveal too much, but it'll basically be about escapees from the most secure galactic prison trying to survive getting hunted down and ostracized in a setting too big for any one person. To the three people reading these, this is some of what my mind has been vomiting so far since I found SV/SB. More later, though normal fics.
This one is probably never to see the light with what I chose for my first quest, but I was thinking about doing A Last Dragon quest first. You play as a small, but ancient dragon that gathers as many eggs as she can and travels to a remote island to raise them after being unable to stop the dragon hunts, then eventually come back. There were problems though on the setting/characters so I eventually scrapped it.
One last one before I head off to sleep. A Pokemon Champion quest, focused around doing your duties as a champion in a region, competing/negotiating with other champions and regions, and trying to establish exactly what a champion's role is politically. There's one more twist but I'll save that for later. This was one of my ideas to do first, but I held off because trying to find details on pokemon society sucked.
I've got two Warhammer quests MAYBE I want to do. One is a quest about a normal imperial guard and trying to survive the craziness of that life, and another is maybeee an eldar living alone somewhere and suddenly having one of the primarch pods crash nearby. I got into Warhammer very late though compared to most and don't have nearly the background information I would like to get started on these, so iunno.
First off, a Project Moon Fixer Office quest. I have literary references already in store for this, but I want to finish Lobotomy Corp and Library of Ruina before starting. Maybe read Leviathan and the Detective thing. Project Moon is a very intricate setting I feel where you really need a clear idea and a strong knowledge of canon to do something in, but maybe it's just me. Any thoughts?
So I guess I'll start this public diary/writing journal with some quest and story ideas I've been thinking of doing. There's only really one I'm planning on starting soon(tm), but maybe it'll help if I have some of them laid out here like this. Potential spoilers maybe? Also damn, 420 char limit. I had like 1k words planned for this. I guess I'll post one or two at a time per post? No idea how often I can post.
