LORDAERON burned. The origin of the spark was unknown, but alas, that was unimportant, what had happened in the palace was what harrowed many thoughts, those who lived, that is.

Arthas Menethil. Crown Prince, Knight, Paladin, Butcher, Kingslayer. It was Arthas' sword, an accursed blade he had retrieved from some cold corner of the world which was run through the chest of King Terenas Menethil II, and so the kingdom which the man had ruled for a peaceful fifty years, through the hardships of two Horde invasions and through the strife that followed with the outbreak of the Plague, he had wrought some measure of peace and hope for the people of Lordaeron. And now, that was all gone. Now, only death awaited for the people of capital city.

Shadows of Lordaeron is a character game set in the (literal) days of the sacking of capital city by the Undead Scourge following Arthas' killing of King Terenas, from the initial shocking hours to the first steps made towards finding some sort of ground of resistance by the paladins of the Silver Hand, and those willing to fight; this is the story of the men (and women) who lived through the possibly most harrowing experience in the first days of the Scouring of Lordaeron second only to Stratholme. You, the players, take the roles of noblemen, knights, soldiers, those of capable heart and mind who had some presence or involvement with affairs in the royal court, and must either survive to escape capital city as its overwhelmed by the Scourge, or stand your ground, find shelter, and survive - if all else fails, well, there is some kind of life after death.

RULES & GUIDELINES
  1. Everything will be catalogued through the IC thread, private conversations will be permitted but a requirement is to add the mod (me) to it.
  2. There won't be a 'turn system' per se, but I will do a basic 'rundown' whenever possible (possibly every couple of days to every week) that will give an idea for participants as to the status of Lordaeron, and determining the fates of characters after a period of time.
  3. You MAY take on the role of lore characters, or introduce custom characters that make sense to be within the confines of Capital City, so for example, you CAN be Magroth the Defender, or Halahk the Lifebringer, but you CANNOT be Tirion Fordring.
  4. The game will follow an 'everything is canon but not everything is true' rule, that means player posts will be able to be more liberal with how they control NPCs, but it won't be necessarily true. Aside from dying, if you die, you are dead, or undead. It doesn't matter.
  5. Please avoid making edits to posts after you've sent them up, as the system is a lot more fluid than other RPs, so keeping an active pace without having people go back and look would be preferable.
  6. Racial limits are; HUMAN, DWARF, HIGH ELF.
  7. Class limits are; PALADIN, MAGE, PRIEST - if you want to play something like a warrior (regular soldier), just don't put anything in Class. Stuff like Necromancers, Warlocks, 'RPG classes' et cetera will have to message me beforehand.
  8. A strict 'one character' limit is enforced, but through events or circumstances you may wind up with NPCs in your cohort, or perhaps even other player characters.

Name of Character: Jaina Proudmoore

Occupation: Noble Lady, Special Agent to Kirin Tor, Apprentice to Antonidas.

Class: Mage

Race: Human

Short Biography:
Jaina Proudmoore is the daughter of the fearsome Lord Admiral Daelin Proudmoore and the former Lord Admiral Katherine Proudmoore. She has two other brothers going by the name of Tandred and Derek. Due to Jaina's heritage, she has a lot of pressure and weight upon her shoulders to live up to her family's reputation. She is the personal agent of Archmage Antonidas who sent her to investigate the Undead Plague with Crown-Prince Arthas, who was her lover at the time. The situation, at first was well, but it rapidly devolved as Arthas wished to burn an entire infected city whom the inhabitants have yet to turn into undead. To her lover's surprise, she did not approve of his decision and sided with Uther. Jaina had been shocked when she returned to the city to find it burned to the ground. Barely a few days later, a mysterious prophet who had tried to reason with the King and the Archmage, appeared before her; urging her to lead the escape of the survivors across the Great Sea. Now, Lordaeron is burning, the King is dead and the Princess is nowhere to be seen. Jaina had a lot of work cut out for her if she wished to salvage the situation quickly.

Name of Character: Calia Menethil
Occupation: Crown-Princess of Lordaeron
Class (if applicable): Priestess
Race: Human

Short Backstory:
Often overlooked as a consequence of the near-universal adoration heaped upon the youngest of Terenas' children, Calia has been raised amid politically tumultuous and volatile times for Lordaeron - and humanity as a whole. A botched betrothal to the would-be King of Alterac, Daval Prestor, ended with the man's vanishing: as did her prospects of an escape from the confines of Capitol City. Her only solace during the long days of isolation was a close circle of confidants and the daughters of the other Alliance monarchs, and as the Alliance decayed, even their company became ephemeral. In an adolescent bid to win her father's affections, she, like Arthas, took to the Light: however, the path of a priestess is less fondly regarded than that of the paladin, and her star never shined as brightly as her elder sibling's. She seemed destined to an unhappy marriage in a far-away kingdom, as soon as her father's crumbling network of alliances demanded it.

Then her brother returned from Northrend.

As Capitol City breaks out into chaos around her, however, Calia suddenly finds her name - and her blood - one of the most valuable currencies in Lordaeron. Whether she can preserve either, or even muster the will to lead her people after many years in seclusion, remains to be seen. She will either be the last of her line, or the most fondly remembered.

Name of Character: Medea Parth
Occupation: Footman
Class: N/A
Race: Human
Short Backstory:
  • Born to a Caravan of Merchants who were accosted by Brigands on the road to Lordaeron, Medea was kept around as a servant to the Bandits until Prince Arthas had, among his many adventures, tracked these bandits down and freed her and many others like her.
  • Inspired by this and with nowhere left to go, Medea had sought employment in the Army of Lordaeron as a soldier, to repay her debt to the Prince and his family.
  • Her several year long career of service is one that she models after her own image of the Prince, a protector of the weak, vanquisher of evil, and a kind individual. Recent news of the Prince's crimes however, has forced her to hide her admiration for him as she remains in-denial of the truth.

I always did like the Footmen units from Frozen Throne! Hence, the occupation. Hopefully, despite the short backstory, the nice little sprinkling of inner character conflict is interesting enough!

Out of the park I will say characters like Jaina won't be playable on the grounds that they aren't in Capital City.
That is disappointing, I thought that if there were any survivors in Capital City, Jaina would most likely have been there to take them with her across the sea. I'm not sure where else she would be at this point in time either but in the Capital City considering Calia is there in danger, to be honest. Then again I'm not an expert WoW lore keeper.
I'll think up of an original character or take one of the canon characters suggested later on. Othmar or Dagren might be interesting.

Name of Character: Viktor Cousland, The Ironbreaker.

Occupation: Knight of the Silverhand

Class: Paladin

Race: Human

Short Biography:
Viktor is a nobleman of Lordaeron who showed a lot of potential in swordsmanship. Not in administrative affairs, not that it mattered much, he was the youngest son of the family and so there were no expectations put into him in inheriting his father's domains and legacy. His elder brother Frederik revealed himself to be competent and his younger sister Eleanor is barely fifteen and had still years ahead of her before she would be thrust into the politics of noble courts. Viktor hitting his twenty-eight anniversary turned elsewhere, more specifically toward the capital. He wanted to achieve something for himself and by himself. The most obvious option to him being the famous order of paladins; the Silver Hand. It was, particularly, difficult. Especially for one so young as Viktor with nothing but his family name to prove himself to enter in such a prestigious order.

It had paid off in the end and he did manage to go through the numerous tests and meet every condition required of him. In fact, he had even gained a rather good reputation as the youngest to have ever joined the Silver Hand. It did also please the ladies; a young and handsome knight part of a prestigious order is enough to make them swoon. Viktor felt that he had accomplished something and that his future is guaranteed toward success while working for the good of his kingdom and its citizens. That little dream didn't last for too long once the Capital City was attacked by the Scourge and the King killed by his own corrupted son! And here Viktor was just starting to get accommodated to his new life.
