Tower of God: The Great Journey
The world you know is dark. They say that once, there was a sky that varied between a shining blue with a bright light and an inky black with a soft light. They say that once, there was lush grass everywhere, trees and animals, and
life without end. But now, there is only the darkness of an eternally grey sky.
They say that once, there was world spanning civilizations. But those stories are fading, lost to the ravages of time. Day by day, week by week, month by month, and year by year... Knowledge was being lost. The oldest of the remembered stories are nearly gone now, recalled by only the oldest of the elders that yet live. Their time is almost spent, but they tell you of the great civilizations of old, and of the wondrous technologies that they wielded. They tell you of the cataclysm that tore the Earth asunder and destroyed all that man created.
They tell you of how mankind fled to the stars, only to be cast down by the Great Beasts that came from the Beyond.
They tell you of the Great War against the Beasts and how man bled for every inch of the world that they reclaimed.
They tell you of how it was not enough, of how the Beasts claimed the dying Earth for their own, and how man was forced into a small piece of land that we could defend. They tell you of how there were just not enough men and women to fight anymore.
They tell you of how they are more than a thousand years old, but how their offspring and their offspring's offspring lived shorter and shorter lives. They were fearful that one day, man would no longer be able to even reproduce, for our lives would end before we can do so.
They tell you of how those fears were unfounded, and though man lives for naught but 80 years, it would be alright for that is how long their own Ancients lived.
And lastly...
They tell you of the Tower. The last hope of man. How they built, only too late, the means to their salvation against the Great Beasts.
And so, the Elders ask you...
What is it that you desire, young Zahard?
Is it money?
Glory?
Power?
Revenge?
Or...
Something that surpasses all others?
They said, whatever you desire-- you can find it
there. At the top.
They said, that all of your wildest dreams can come true if you ascend the Tower of God.
For at the top, is the final legacy of the Ancients. The key to restoring the world to what it was.
A way to see the stars in the sky, and even reach them.
But only, if you climb.
Your name is Zahard, and you are a warrior. Though you are young, you have already won numerous honors fighting against the Great Beasts that ravage the world.
You are a defender of your settlement, and with time, you became a man. During that time, the last Elder died, and you were one of the few left that still believed the stories and tales of the world as it was long ago.
As a man, you brought great change to your people as you united the fracturing tribes that split off from yours when their Elders died long ago.
You were called Conqueror, Reclaimer, Murderer, Savior, and more.
But you accept all of your titles, for they are all true.
What is your reason for conquest? For unity?
[] To Form an Empire
For all your prowess as a warrior, you long dreamed of a time where you could put down your weapons. For all the strength that you have, what use is it if your fellow man die in droves beside you? So you set out to forge an Empire that will protect the innocent from war. You united the disparate tribes of man so that they may fight together and never have to fear the Great Beasts again. And the Tower? You will conquer that too and make the new home for your people. And when you reach the top, you would eliminate all the Great Beasts in the world so that they can
finally lay down their arms for good. (HARD MODE - You have a very difficult start but your growth rate is exponential)
Gain Trait: Sovereign King - For you, ruling comes naturally. However, no one will take you seriously until you can prove your worth. Though you will start with nothing, people will flock to your side as you conquer more and more of the Tower. It is exceedingly difficult to recruit people when first starting out, but as you gain Renown and Infamy, it becomes easier and easier to recruit people to your cause.
Start With: Pact of Brotherhood - Each of the ten disparate tribes of man have united and given you a peerless man or woman from all different walks of life. You start with a complete and versatile team of ten when you begin to climb the Tower of God.
[] To Reclaim the Knowledge of the Ancients
So much as been lost as the world was plunged into darkness, never to be reclaimed. And yet, there is so much potential still, in the regular people that live among the tribes of man. You wish to reclaim the knowledge that was lost so that you may one day become as the Ancients were and finally leave for the stars and find a better home for man. To you, climbing the Tower is an opportunity to learn all there is to know of the world that the Ancients lived in. And you wish to see for yourself the stars that the Elders spoke so fondly of. To reach them yourself one day. (NORMAL MODE - You have a moderately difficult start with a linear growth curve)
Gain Trait: Seeker of the Lost - The knowledge of the Ancients calls to you like a beacon of light in the darkness, and you enthusiasm is shared by those that you travel with. It is much easier to recruit people and make allies with those that are enthusiastic about technology, scholarship, and knowledge.
Start With: Ancient Technology - Each tribe has kept some facets of technology from the Ancients, so while some have sent you men or women with whom you will climb the Tower, others have gifted you a piece of Ancient technology to help your way. You start your journey with five special weapons (one for you and each of your team), five Pockets, five Lighthouses, and a dozen Observers. More information about these pieces of technology can be found in the Inventory post below.
[] Dreams of the Elders.
The Elders dreamt of an Earth that is no longer their own. They longed for something better, so that their children, and their children's children can have a better life than they did. Instead, they watched as their offspring died before them, lacking the same longevity, vitality, intelligence, and strength that the Elders had. But not all was lost, for every so often a child comes along with the wisdom of the Elders. With the intelligence of the Elders. With the strength of the Elders. You were the one to unite them so that you may find companions to help you climb the Tower and reclaim the Earth. To remake it into the beautiful home of man that it once was. (EASY MODE - You have an exceedingly powerful start, but your growth rate is far more limited than the other two options)
Gain Trait: Dreamer - You are an idealist in every way shape and form. Though you have sacrificed and bled for your goals, you never let the ends justify the means, and believe that the journey is just as important as the destination. It is much easier to recruit people, make allies, and spread your ideas during the course of your journey, but should you ever be forced to compromise your ideals, you and your team will taking massive morale hits.
Start With: Gift of the Ancients - You are the first in many generation to have inherited each of the gifts of the Ancients. They provide you with vast strength, intelligence, wisdom, and force of will beyond what most specialists are capable of in a single category. You did not ask for a boon before you left to climb the tower, but some of the Tribes still sent exceptional men or women to be your companions on your journey. The four of you will climb.
