TRANSMISSIONS FROM THE OFFICE OF IMPERIAL REGENT GAUL

ON THE HEROES OF THE IMPERIAL STARFLEET | @Carol

"We must never allow ourselves to be mired in obsession with the enemies of our Empire - though they are many, they are ultimately cowards and terrorists. For them is the ash heap of history, never to be remembered more than the vanquished of their betters. It is with great importance that we must exalt those that have defended our Empire, fought and served in the most austere conditions so that we may experience the civilization and wealth of this Imperial Era. It is for that purpose that I honor a handful of individuals, figures that on their own stand heroic, but likewise represent the character found throughout our military.

Today I look to the Imperial Starfleet, that sterling body that bears the weight of the galaxy on its shoulders. There are countless Imperials that deserve honor, an innumerable list of names of those lost or still alive, enough to fill twice-over the streets of Imperial Center. But today, I look to the very pinnacle of service, for today I seek to instate three of our Imperial heroes with the highest honorific.

Iaxis Solaris.

Valentinian Venis.

Lira Serenon.

Three Grand Admirals that have been vital in restoring order across our Empire. Grand Admiral Solaris has been the chief defender of our galactic south, arrayed against the worst machinations of the Rebellion's terror. When many warned that the Rebellion would cascade up the the Corellian Trade Spin, I knew that it would not be so, for Solaris is an enduring shield. Grand Admiral Venis' premier military mind is responsible for the extinguishment of Rebel terror in the galactic north; the quiet prosperity felt there is due in no small part to his efforts. And Grand Admiral Serenon needs little introduction; under her command, the traitorous elements of Corellia have been firmly and finally quieted.

To these three, I extend great honor and the title of Generalissimi. This they will wear with pride, for it is a pride earned in blood, sacrifice, and service to the Empire.

I must also honor another trio - three men long-deserving of greater recognition in our Empire. To the rank of Grand Admiral, I hereby raise Irov Lanin, Gilad Pellaeon, and Plente Poggers. Each have been men I have worked alongside, directed through the Imperial Regency to act, often at the side of another Grand Admiral. And each has been found worthy, critical figures in the fight against Rebel terror. Lanin's Crimson Command has fought from Namadii to Corellia; Pellaeon's Death Squadron survived the worst the Rebellion has ever offered and still fights with tenacity; Poggers' fleet has grown from skirmishing Rebel banditry to commanding the incalculable might of an Executor-class Super Star Destroyer.

Remember these names, for your children will read of them in the books to be written."

ON THE NECESSITY OF ORDER IN OVERSECTOR TEN | @Hyvelic

"In our struggle against Rebellion and Warlordism, there have been sacrifices in combat by those pledged to military service. But the extent of Rebel terror reaches even those among the bureaucracy. Grand Moff Septina was murdered by a treasonous cabal, one which seeks to make an emperor out of an Outer Rim bandit and a corpse. In the end, he was overtaken by the horror of what our Imperial Starfleet so zealously defends us from, and for him and his family, I mourn deeply.

But this cannot be a final defeat. The lawlessness in Oversector Ten, the evil of the Rebellion, the banditry of Baobab - it will be crushed. In the name of Corvalo Septina, vengeance will be had and order will be restored. Thusly, I name Wardok Jounii to the office of Grand Moff of Oversector Ten.

Wardok Juonii has been a leal servant of our Empire since the very declaration of its birth. In him is a paragon of the New Order, a man devoted wholly to service, who even when retired to an honorable life of family, returned because he heard the call in his heart to serve again. History remembers the great conquerors, the wise kings, the noble lords. But those men are made who they are by men like Juonii - the retainers and lieutenants, taskmasters and castellans, the tireless servants. Juonii was that man for Palpatine and his Empire at its inception, and will again be that man for our Empire in its moment of crisis."

All fleet assets are prepared for Operation BACKHAND. I have dispatched secondary standby forces to jumping off points. They await your command. I have informed the captains of each ship of their duties, and provided sealed orders to be opened when you send the signal. My own forces will be deploying shortly.

Whatever comes next, fallback positions have been prepared and contingency plans are put in place. Good luck, my friend. No matter what happens, it has been an honor to fight by your side. If the navy had more officers like you, the Galaxy would be a safer place.

Long Live the Empire.

My Regent,

The DMZ is taking immediate action to counter Rebel advances in Oversector Sixteen and Oversector Two. Admiral Vaan and I are preparing for combat operations in the near future, but primary efforts have been focused on counter-intelligence. Recent Rebel activities have been suppressed by local intelligence services. I have ordered COMPMOR to begin sharing any information gathered from Rebel Cells with Imperial Intelligence, effective immediately.

Our combat operations are working to counter the efforts of Admiral Voon Massa. This Rebel commander has proven to be a cunning and aggressive commander. With the recent shift of Rebel tactics from hit-and-run to open warfare, their use of Capital-Class ships has increased. AS such, the DMZ has found itself engaged in unexpected duels and suffering a dearth of Capital vessels of our own.

If we are to continue effective combat against Rebel forces, and if we are to continue blocking Rebel access to Hydian Way and Corellian Run, the DMZ requires additional forces. What forces, if any, can be expected to reinforce the DMZ in the near future?

Long Live the Empire.

Grand Moff,

Allow me to welcome you to Denon. I hope your accomidations have been acceptable.

While I understand any hesistancy on your part, I am reaching out to you in the spirit of cooperation. I have informed COMPMOR and the Internal Security Services of the DMZ that you are to be included in all Weekly Briefings. I will also have my assistants include you in any and all communications appropriate for a Grand Moff.

I doubt we will have any deep trust between us in the future. Nevertheless, the Rebels can only be defeated by the well-oiled cooperation of our command staff. Vaan and I are dedicated to the defeat of the Rebellion above all else.

If possible, I ask that you communicate to Imperial Center and inform them of the status of our main opponent in the region, Admiral Massa (SEE ATTACHED INTELLIGENCE REPORT: "MASSA, VOON. PRIORITY TARGET"). If the DMZ is to succeed in our mission to prevent Rebel advances further into the core, we will need immediate reinforcement, particualarly capital ships.

Any assistance in this matter would be helpful.

Long Live the Empire.

- Grand General Kravic Vonsol.

SIDESTORY: Meeting in the Trees
Meeting in the Trees

The early morning mist still hung around the wroshyr trees as the ongoings of the city of Rwookrrorro awoke and began their day. While bustling, it was a calm sort of chaos that Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight enjoyed, taking the time to remember to enjoy the small joys of life. So much death and wanton destruction engulfed the galaxy that Luke often wondered if people took the time to look beyond everything and just listen to life around them. Jedi of old would spend hours meditating, connecting to the very essence of the Force trying to understand its many meanings. It was something that Luke was attempting himself, having learned it from his old master Yoda back on Dagobah as he hung just off the ground floating.

"I don't know why but it always gets me when I see you just … floating. How you doing kid?"

Luke chuckled as he opened his eyes to see his old friend Han Solo standing before him, Han resting against a railing. "Fine Han, just fine." Luke glanced around. "Chewie with you?"

"Out playing with Lumpy." Han pushed himself off the railing and walked over to a table, sitting down as he pulled out a datapad. "That kid has more energy than I can even imagine. Seeing Chewie being a dad is kind of inspiring, you know?"

"Makes you think about things doesn't it?" Luke chuckled again and put out his legs, walking over to the table as well. "Perhaps one day."

Han smirked over at Luke. "Not in the cards right now kid. Too much going on, especially after this." Han handed over the datapad and gave Luke a few moments to look it over.

"So it is true…" Luke mused, shaking his head.

"Afraid so, least as far as we can tell. The damn Ssi-Ruuvi were right."

"Doesn't excuse them launching an invasion Han, but it does put things into perspective. Incredible."

"No it doesn't but you don't really need an excuse to do anything in this kriffing galaxy. Piss poor timing also."

"Leia informed the Council and Mon Mothma, and I know Ackbar has called off several operations due to the possibility. I wonder if it will delay or even call off Centerpoint. A shame, but rather be safe than sorry." Luke continued to read as he signaled for his constant companion to come over, slipping a data disk into one of R2D2's jacks. "Take it, this has everything on it?"

"Best we have come up with yep. Think you can do anything with it?" Han asked, hoping his friend might have some ideas.

"Not sure I can, but Ahsoka might have more information on this. She has a droid that dates back to well, he is old. Bet he can help shed some light on things. I can head back to the fleet and talk to them as we prepare for the next step. Davidson has concentrated his resources and our new allies are proving quite useful."

"Good. Madine and Cracken and their intelligence weenies are working on things on their end. The Senate just voted to increase their budget and Ackbar is getting the funding he asked for. Something about a viceroy or a count or something. Though he wants more mid-line cruisers as well." Han looked over at Luke and saw a large grin beam. "What?"

"Nothing nothing…" Luke chuckled again. "It wasn't even a year ago I couldn't get you interested in military operations. Now listen to you. Glad to see Leia's influence on you also."

"Oh come on, now you listen here kid…."

A Court Restored and Moral

- Imperial Palace, 5 ABY -

"And frankly, between his daughter and his Trandoshan help, I'd have picked the latter."

Laughter, practiced and polite filled the room. A sly smirk here, a gentle pat on the shoulder there. There were lords and ladies, bureaucrats and commanders, titans of business and captains of industry. That was their primary titles, but in truth, their career was something else entirety. Manko Gaul was surrounded on all sides by professional courtiers providing a masterclass on their craft. In many ways, it reminded him of home - of noble Shawken and its endless seasons of galas and soirees. Like all the others, his mirth was a mask, but beneath it was a genuine touch of enjoyment.

Gaul and another two-dozen guests stood in the Ochre Room, one of the many palatial annexes constructed under Emperor Palpatine. It was just one in a rotation of spaces, selected for diverse amenities yes, but likewise to create unfamiliar territory; it was good practice to keep courtiers uncertain and surprised. Ones too familiar with the grounds might mistake themselves as a fixture, and those became boors or threats. Gaul would suffer neither as head of the household.

"I mean, they both had scales!"

A second punchline, a stumble born of insecurity. Like vultures to carrion, the courtiers' smiles grew wider. Baron Delo was the first to pounce.

"Friend I've seen your family tree. I don't think scaly skin has ever been a deal-breaker for House Wixley."

More laughter, less polite. Lord Wixley laughed too, though his mask had broken, betraying the flush of embarrassment. Perhaps he would have made a quiet exit minutes later and the party would continue uncaring and unnoticing. But Manko Gaul was a benevolent host. A hand on each man's shoulders, he interjected, and immediately the courtiers clung to his words. After all, his was the approval they actually cared for.

"Now gentleman," Gaul began. "Be careful. If we tread too far back into our ancestry, we might see dear Delo turn back into a merchantman."

The courtiers laughed their loudest yet because it was the host who bandied, and better yet not against them. Wixley had confidence restored, Delo was humbled, and Gaul played the mediator at the expense of an up-jumped corporate trader who believed an exchange of credits conferred nobility. Delo's authenticity was as false as the synthetic fibers in his supposedly hand-woven tumuon shawl. He might has well have been wearing carbon-cotton from an Outer Rim bazaar. It took a degree of effort for Gaul not to allow his gaze to linger on Delo's clothing, enough to make a statement; it would have, unfortunately, been a step too harsh for a successful night in the Ochre Room.

* * *

Hours passed and Gaul flittered from conversation to conversation. There was a liveliness unseen since Palpatine; for all his acumen, the aged Emperor did not thrive in court life by the time of his passing. For some time, during those days of the Clone Wars and beyond, Gaul was the courtier. He saw firsthand the uncultivated court turn into something stodgy. Perhaps it was the looming presence of Lord Vader, who had a way of choking the life from parties as well as he choked the life out of his officers. Or perhaps, Gaul thought, it was the-

"Your Excellency."

The address was followed with a giggle and a delicate hand placed against his back. Gaul turned, knowing full well what sort of hanger-on had touched him. His mask was redoubled as he looked at her: a woman barely covered in crimson shimmersilk, the form-fitting dress accentuating every curve and angle of her body. She stood, close, her hand retreating from Gaul and towards her lips, hiding a coquettish smile.

"Yolli!" Gaul responded, his voice and mask portraying pleasant surprise. "It so good to see you, sweet darling."

They kissed, a peck to the cheek, as Yolli claimed was custom on her world. For a moment, she held onto his forearms overlong, blinked once, twice, and then slowly released. By all appearances, they were close companions, friends reacquainting with one another. He was the Imperial Regent and she was a beautiful dilettante, perhaps a plaything, perhaps an obsession, but someone of interest to someone as mighty as Gaul. But this was all in appearance and that mattered very little in matters of truth.

She was a strumpet, Gaul thought. Emperor Palpatine had allowed at some point his Imperial Court to become infested with the sort, aspirant courtesans and concubines. Perhaps the elder statesman wished to cultivate the image of virility; all had heard the rumors of a harem after all and Gaul shuddered to think Palpatine had encouraged the gossip. And many rulers had fallen into the same trap. Or worse yet, perhaps Palpatine truly did find satisfaction from the baser things.

"We truly must find time together," Yolli yapped. "You've said such wonderous things about Shawken. What was it now, the story of the mountainside villa your family owns there? How the sun crests the snow-tipped peaks. You tell it so well, I must fall into your words again, love."

The word love from her mouth was abominable - surely she saw it as transactional and not in the morally transactional way of high society marriages.

"Were it that I could, sweet darling. But you have caught me in my retreat - the Empire needs me, of course."

Her bright blue eyes darkened for just a moment, with disappointment, even annoyance. When they brightened again, her words came out honeyed.

"To think of all you do makes my little heart heavy. Perhaps next time, love, or tomorrow night even?"

Without entertaining the idea further, Gaul offered vague assurances, a customary Yolli kiss, and a swift exit from the Ochre Room.

In the quiet of his personal turbolift, Gaul's mask was removed. Handkerchief in hand, he rubbed at his cheek, as if it would erase what had been put upon him. Without turning, he addressed his escort captain.

"This is the Imperial Palace, yes?"

A beat and he continued.

"Then I fail to understand when we've incorporated a training academy for galactic harlots. We are to have no more grisettes in our midsts. No more, captain, or they will not be the only ones cast down to the undercity."

His men gave respectful acknowledgement of his orders and the turbolift grew as still as the grave. As Gaul scrubbed his cheek harder, he had the most pressing thought, one that had lurked in his mind for so long but now would be forced out.

"And contact my majordomo. He will have a list of proper ladies to fill these halls."

It would take a proper lady indeed to become the bridewife of Manko Gaul.

A warm drink at the Cantina

"Well... good thing that we're not there." Dakko says as he takes a sip of his ale, watching the nearby HoloTV. On it were mentions of a bombing perpetrated by yet another one of the criminal backed Gangs, this one sponsored by the Black Sun, the scene behind the news anchor showing dozens of sentients running from the site of an explosion.

As much as it was the Hutts that were being shouted on about and emphasized, they weren't the only cartels involved in the low-level conflict that had afflicted Tolonda for much of its existence.

"Hells yes. Kriffing slugs trying to act like lowlifes like them should be respected. They're lucky there was never any serious effort to stomp them out!" Dakko's work buddy Tel called out, getting a few chuckles and nods from some of the other workers with them.

They were all at one of the cantinas in Santif, one of the cities on Rothana more closely tied in to the shipyards in orbit. For them all, it was the end of their work week and a time to warm themselves with good cheer and drink. Only some of them were natural born Rothanans, many of them having come in during the control of the Galactic Empire and some even during the time of independent Tolonda. More then a few had accents either Kuati in nature or from one of the local worlds of the Union, with a few others smattered around. Corellian, Druckenwellian, Courascanti, and Arkani were some of the most notable ones, with a couple from even further off such as Lantillian or Mantellian.

"Heck, they're lucky that the might of Tolonda doesn't amass into a great crusade and march on them! We'd fry the slugs as their worlds burn and space the Sun as their ships are broken apart!" He says, the nods fewer yet more energetic.

Right, time to stop this. Dakko says as he coughs.

"Calm Tel, we're here to relax and have some drinks! They'll get what they're owed in due time, but we shouldn't let them drag down our well-earned fun aye?" He says, getting Tel to flush a bit and nod, the mood deescalating as the bartender discretely watching them nods and focuses back on her work.

"Yeah yeah, sorry Dakko. You just know how I get about them." He says as Dakko grins and nods.

"For good reason, don't doubt that. Lets just have fun though eh? Catch up and share what's been happening. Heard young Barec here got promoted and is now working on the Singularity!"

At that the conversation shifted to the now suddenly focused-on Shipyard technician, letting Dakko breath out a silent sigh of relief.

Rothana might be generally isolated and less effected by the conflict going on between the cartels and the Government, but that didn't mean it wasn't invested in what was happening. What was happening was affecting both general stability and trade after all. And who knew if it would develop into something more devastating- either a direct conflict between the cartels and Union or the New Republic taking the opportunity to attack.

The New Republic... boy was that something.

He had no love lost for the old Republic, he was a teenager at the time as his Father worked on the manufacturing lines for the LAAT Gunship. He was quite active online, and he saw just what had been going on. What the Republic had allowed to fester. The CIS had been no worse, their Corporatist influences even worse then the Republic's and their atrocities and aggressiveness well known. The Galactic Empire had been better, much better in fact, but it hadn't worked. Planetary destruction and Alderaan saw to that.

But he still believed in the principles of rigid order and security for the people's prosperity. That's what had attracted him to Tolonda, those efforts and proclamations. And true their efforts hadn't been the best or most effective, but he didn't trust the unstable Imperial Remnants to actually mature or the New Republicans to avoid letting the past repeat itself.

His attention returned to the present when he heard a yell, from someone outside of the group.

"Hey, turn it to a Hoverball game!" One of the drunken fellows in the Cantina slurred out in Basic.

The bartender, a female Cathar, shook her head as he looked at what was on.

Ah, Nega-Ball, neat.

However, he was unable to enjoy this game as the drunken idiot couldn't take no for an answer as he staggered up.

"Come onnn, change it. Know you bunch of Bothan are snakes n' fur, but you're just bein' dense. Listen to me!" He yells out as a few of his fellows stand up behind him.

The Cathar meanwhile looked pissed, growling as the guy acting as security moves forward. The drunken worker sees him coming, and before he can say anything he yells and charges. The Security man quickly subdues him with a blow to the head, but that just incites the others.

From there the cantina descended into a full bar fight, as a flung idiot crashes into one of his co-workers, her fellow worker and husband taking special insult to that as he punches the man's lights out.

Seeing all of this, he merely chuckles and downs the rest of his drink, warm ale joining the warmth settled in his stomach and body, before moving to join in- tageting a particular fellow who is trying to rip the leg off of one of the chairs to use as a club.

A relative rarity this might be on Rothana compared to other shipyard worlds and Rim planets, but he wasn't going to stay back from a good bar fight!

Been meaning to do some IC Posts but they fell by the wayside/forgotten, so here's a little something I quickly whipped up.

Mi and Mine

- Imperial Palace, 5 ABY -

A gentle hush gradually befell the crowd, surrounding Manko Gaul. He stood in the center of the Assemblage Auditorium, clothed in form-fitting onyx. An Imperial-style tunic peeked from underneath a double-breasted coat, itself draped over by a flowing sherwani jacket. Of course, Gaul always tailored his dress as befitted his status, yet today he was most precise in his multi-layered presentation: his guests were of great importance. Around him sat much of the high nobility of the Galactic Empire.

It had been Gaul's initiative, naturally, to convene many of the more prominent and respected movers-and-shakers of galactic culture. Now the Imperial Guests floor hummed with the rapid footfalls of servants, butlers, personal attendants, bodyguards, and all manner of expected help for the privileged classes. They had been here for a day of relaxation, with personal visits to all patriarchs and matriarchs, before Gaul now formally addressed them as a collective. The stated purpose was a social gathering in pursuit of understanding, an intergalactic summit to discuss strides made under the New Order and more specifically the newest order of the Imperial Regency.

But most in attendance were acutely aware of Manko Gaul's ulterior motive: the finding of a bridewife. He had, of course, been the one to seed the rumor in the first place.

There was much ado about the Imperial Regent's personal life. Many knew he was a quiet adherent to the Holy Parent Association for the Unification of Galactic Faith, a niche church of high liturgical tradition in the Shawkenese-style, and that his moral conservatism was more genuine than an act. Inversely, this made the rumor mill all the more scandalous, the strangely stoic Gaul the subject of lurid fantasies. On more than one occasion, the term "Salist" became an odious fixture, one that was kept from Gaul's knowledge by his wise retainers. What rumors did breach from without to within the Imperial Palace increasingly annoyed Gaul, who among other reasons, resolved that a marriage was in order. The Empire needed the model of a ruling family, one that not even Palpatine deigned to provide.

Thus this gathering became an extended session of matchmaker. Gaul, however, already bore some individuals in mind, ensuring their attendance was requested. The first was guaranteed to come.

"Your Serene Highness," spoke the elder king, giving an audible creak as he half-bowed. Gaul returned the pleasantry.

King Arturo of Orocco was a troubled man with a more troubled dynasty. Emperor Palpatine had imperialized Orocco, nearly eradicating the Oroccon monarchy's assets in one fell swoop. At the same time, Arturo's heir was kidnapped and only the intervention of some unknown vagabond returned her to safety. Since Gaul's ascension, he bore perhaps a soft spot for the king, using Imperial and personal assets to relieve their various debts. For that, Arturo was beyond grateful, a genuinely honorable man who sought in vain to repay the favor. His heir and daughter too was delighted at the support.

"We thank you for your hospitality," she said, her face lit like a Kurdavvian sunrise.

Princess Mi bowed as well, looking up now with her bright, blue eyes. She was adorned with the spoils of Gaul's patronage, a recent excursion to the Tetso Shopping Worlds. Lilac shimmersilk matching her lipstick, dangling earrings of amethyst, and golden bangles of clearly customized width to match her wrists. It was simple to see that Princess Mi fully enjoyed the lavish lifestyle promised by nobility, especially after its brief deprivation at the hands of Palpatine. King Arturo had every intention to provide for his daughter, and made clear that her hand was first and foremost offered to Manko Gaul.

Gaul was, however, much less certain about the pairing. Thus, his test.

"Of course. Your family always has a place here on Imperial Center so long as I draw breath." Gaul smiled, his eyes intently lying on King Arturo. "In fact, I was especially hopeful to see you royal Orrocons accept my invitation today. I would dearly love to hear more about the goings on about your palatial restoration project, Your Majesty. I know you had some most peculiar experiences with the east wing."

Gaul paused a moment before continuing, only then turning his eyes to turn Princess Mi. "And as well, some pleasant conversation with Your Royal Highness, Princess. I see you have been to Tetso, a place I've long missed. Perhaps after this engagement we can talk about your trip, in a location more...private?"

The Orrocons both widened their eyes. Princess Mi nearly stammered before catching herself, her eyes flicking to her father, pleading for guidance. King Arturo placed a supportive hand on his daughter's shoulder. Perhaps soothed, perhaps remembering some preparation, she spoke quietly and quickly.

"You give me an honor, Your Serene Highness. B-but it would be unbecoming of me to walk with you alone. Maybe my father should attend as a chaperone, with a second of your own?"

Gaul was pleased. She had passed the first test.

* * *

The Imperial Regent and Princess Mi walked shoulder to shoulder along the Palatial Balcony. They overlooked the Glitannai Esplanade, an avenue of Imperial Center's most ritzy and affluent businesses. From here, one could likely see millions of credits being spent in the span of minutes on Fleuréline weave garments and teppanyaki beche-de-mer. The Princess could scarcely avert her eyes from all the glittering storefronts, a childish gleam to her eyes. King Arturo stood a few yards back, joined by a mutual friend, a viscount from a minor world of the Inner Rim.

"I'm suddenly reminded of a fable from Shawken. Shall I tell it?"

Princess Mi snapped to attention.

"O-of course!"

"A young, handsome king was without a maiden in his realm. But during a hunt, the king napped by a tree. Down the branches climbed the most beautiful lady he had ever seen. Her delicate features, her careful poise, all betrayed a most noble upbringing. He had fallen instantly and completely in love. He had to marry her and asked her on the spot."

Manko Gaul slowed his pace now, looking quite intently at the Princess. She blushed, but stopped soonafter Gaul continued.

"But, what he didn't know was this maiden was quite strange. She demanded the king provide for her - sticks and twigs of all things. Not deterred, the king sent his hunting party across the entire forest, bringing back bundles upon bundles of sticks and twigs. But she wasn't satisfied yet. Now she demanded cloth and yarn. So, the king sent his hunting party back to his castle to rip apart the carpets and rugs and wardrobes therein. And when that wasn't enough, the king and his men shredded the clothes off their back for the maiden."

Princess Mi couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as Gaul continued.

"Still unsatisfied, the maiden had one last request. Every sparkling gem from the king's crown. So smitten by love, the king gave each and every one, as well as all the jewelry of all his men. And when at last the maiden was satisfied, she threw off her disguise and revealed herself as a hawk."

"A hawk? How does a hawk look like a woman?"

"Magic, I suppose."

She didn't look quite convinced, but Gaul continued.

"With a shrill caw, the hawk seized all the belongings, flew off, and made for herself a very sturdy, very beautiful, very shiny nest. The king was left ruined, penniless, and humiliated."

"But what happened to the hawk?" Mi tapped a finger to her chin, as if in serious contemplation over the magic hawk-lady.

"Well, that part is not mentioned."

"I wonder if she married a hawk king and lived happily ever-"

"But what is the moral of this story?"

Princess Mi stopped, stared, and realized suddenly that the tale was meant to mean something. Her father warned her that she'd be tested. But on this?

"Well," she began. "The hawk was evil and the king was stupid."

Gaul chuckled.

"I suppose, yes. Or one could say that even though the maiden was by all appearances noble and beautiful, she was merely a common beast. And no amount of glamour or trickery can make you any different."

Gaul lingered on that, watching with some predatory delight as Mi read into the statement, her eyes flittering here and there in thought. When at last she moved to speak, raising her hand as if to express something, he continued.

"Or, perhaps it's that women are a dangerous sort for romantic men."

At that, Gaul clasped her hand with both of his own. A moment passed before he spoke again.

"I enjoyed our time together, Your Royal Highness. Perhaps we should meet again, soon?"

Before Mi could stammer a response, Gaul bid her father over. The two chatted briefly before Gaul departed, leaving the Orrocans stunned. Alone now, Arturo turned to his daughter with expectant eyes.

"Well...what did he say, darling!?"

"He told me a story about a hawk."

* * *

Manko Gaul spent his walk evaluating the Princess. Soon enough he decided that it would be best down comparatively. He would have to wait until he met his next prospective bridewife. Then he would see who was the fairest - the Princess or the Queen.

The Galactic Civil War continues unabated as the Galactic Empire, New Republic and Imperial Warlords are vying for dominance of the galaxy. Ever larger and more potent machines of war are constructed while more and more of the citizenry are pressed into service to potentially sway the tide in their favor. Great battles and campaigns by all sides are being organized and carried out, while growing threats wait in the shadows…

GALACTIC CORE
Celebration was a frequent activity on Imperial Center, as Imperial Regent Manko Gaul bestowed many of the Empire's most successful military officers new titles and promotions, looking to bolster both his legitimacy and replenish the highest ranks within the Imperial military since the Battle of Endor. The ceremonious title of Generalissimi first given to the late Terek Corliss for his efforts during the Namadii Campaign was distributed to three individuals, perhaps the most skilled and influential officers of the Empire. The first of these to receive the title of Generalissimi was Valentinian Venis for his efforts during the northern campaigns to conquer all sectors held by the New Republic north of the core worlds first enacted by former Grand Vizier Sate Pestage. Second was Lira Serenon, her command during the First and Second Battles of Corellia was vital in destroying the Imperial Warlord state under Tycho Sal, becoming a highly respected tactician within Imperial circles. The third was Iaris Solaris, known for his expert skill in combat fending off major New Republic offensives in Oversector Twenty, his experience fighting commanders such as Admiral Gial Ackbar to a standstill was seen as a major testament to his ability to conduct the war against the best New Republic formations in the galaxy.

Promotions did not stop there, as declarations of replacing some of the vaunted offices of Grand Admiral were made. Three new Grand Admirals were proclaimed by the Imperial Regency through lavish ceremonies on Imperial Center. The first was Plente Poggers, a highly loyal lieutenant of Imperial Regent Gaul which by some was seen as an ill-advised choice more made by his alignment with the Regent than his skill as a commander, but was still a competent officer although given such responsibility it was unknown how he would perform. The second was a surprise to most, as Gilad Pellaeon, commander of Death Squadron who was only a captain two years prior was now one of the most powerful officers in the Imperial StarFleet. Pellaeon was seen as both loyal to the Empire and able to carry out his duties as shown at the Battle of Endor and First and Second Battles of Corellia, but much like his now peer Grand Admiral Poggers there were doubts with his rapid rise through the ranks of his ability to handle much more than previously. The final and perhaps most controversial of the new Grand Admirals was Irov Lanin, commander of Crimson Command. Lanin was seen as incompetent and more concerned with his own personal interests, as seen during the Namadii Campaign which resulted in the loss of many of Crimson Command's vessels and almost took his life. If any of these new promotions drew open criticism from Imperial circles it was Lanin's, as the more competent and level-headed officers warned of possible resentment for elevating such a figure as Lanin with authority over most. A more minor promotion glanced over in all of this was Druno Vaine the Younger, made a High Admiral by the Regency Council for his work in Oversector Twenty being one of few officers who has shown a steady consistency of loyalty and excellence in the field.

Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon, a rapid riser, competent leader and loyal figure of the Imperial Regency

Beyond promotions, parties and celebrations of military victories Imperial Regent Gaul began a major investment into research and development which had been heavily neglected since the Battle of Endor. Seeing the evolution of the Rebel Alliance's irregular and small-scale tactics transform into the New Republic's conventional full-scale offensives, the flaws and shortcomings of the Empire's military might had been exposed. Kuat Drive Yards were given exclusive contracts to develop and mass produce a new frontline capital ship to counter increasingly larger and more potent New Republic designs, designated as the Imperial III-class Star Destroyer. The specifications, modernizations and other details of this new vessel type were kept top secret, but rumors stated it was based on the Imperial II-class which had shown to be a highly competent capital ship during its service fighting both Imperial Warlords and New Republic. Another major investment was focused on starfighter modernization, seeing the antiquated TIE Fighter which a majority of the Imperial StarFleet has in inventory as obsolete against the superior New Republic X-Wing. TIE Interceptor production was given the highest priority by Imperial contractors, beginning to slowly phase out the older but cheaper TIE Fighter while secret projects were enacted looking to improve the TIE Interceptor design. This decision was highly expensive, as even though the TIE Interceptor was a relatively affordable spacecraft in comparison to an X-Wing for example, the facilities to mass produce it on the level of the TIE Fighter were not as established, requiring more infrastructure to produce them in meaningful numbers and further straining the Imperial budget. Due to this, although more TIE Interceptors were coming online than previously, the TIE Fighter was still above and beyond the most numerous starfighter the Empire had available.

A continued reformation of Imperial bureaucracy under Imperial Regent Gaul within the core worlds, most notable Oversectors One and Two was underway. A new generation of politicians, lobbyists, nobility and Senators began to make their mark upon their respective regions as the old guard of the late Emperor Palpatine, still holding significant power, began to wane even if just slightly. Slowly but surely these new powerbrokers appointed or given blessings by the Regency, better known as "Gaulists" began to chip away at the Imperial hierarchy, paving a path for Regent Gaul to further cement his power and legitimacy in the eyes of those he deemed most important to the continuation of Imperial control. This spreading of the Regent's influence clawed its way into the Imperial military as well, although not as successfully as since the Battle of Endor the Imperial Navy and Army, even with major defections and battles which have degraded their capabilities, their institutions and old guard members have entrenched themselves against the new wave of appointments and promotions, looking to ensure their interests and very lives are kept intact during times of major instability. This new wave of officials, politicians, lobbyists and bureaucrats gave a sense of perhaps a changing of the Empire's fortunes, even with an unresolved food shortage stemming from the loss of the largest agriworld supplier of foodstuffs from Ukio years prior. At least within the core worlds the general citizenry began to settle into the new norms as the Imperial Senate passed decrees and laws while a relative peace began to settle as major battles and engagements inched further towards the rim. This allowed for the Imperial government to project a beginning of stabilization in the aftermath of former Grand Admiral Maddox's uprising and overthrowing of Grand Vizier Sate Pestage since the Battle of Endor which was much welcomed during these trying times.

For fellow Regent Val Dellian, the celebrations and parties as a result of the decrees of new Generalissimis and Grand Admirals continued unabated, if not even more so than previously. The highest of nobility, the rich and influential of the Empire were seen frequently within the Regent's presence as connections and favors were secured for future use, ensuring the Regent's powerbase was not only intact but growing. It was perhaps through hubris that items distributed through these parties were either the most expensive or even not released to the public for various reasons by Regent Dellian, most notable being synthetic spice. Supply of glitterstim spice had effectively dried up since the catastrophic events at Kessel, leading many to find substitutes or look to create a variant which could be mass produced and replace the now depleted drug. Dellian had invested many credits into his own personal supply of experimental synthetic spice as a result to ensure full enjoyment of his party life and his guests, as many had positive reviews of it and wished to secure their own way to acquire it. But, being both experimental and synthetic, side effects and even deadly reactions could be expected even in small doses as Dellian's personal scientists warned. Not long after the official celebrations of the new Generalissimis, Grand Admirals and authorization of Imperial development towards modernization of the Imperial StarFleet, Dellian held a private party for many CEOs and loyal Senators to determine future policy for the Empire when tragedy struck.

The Regent and most of his guests were found hours later dead within the private room where the party was held by concerned bodyguards who noticed a lack of loud voices and ignored calls, as the entire situation was kept secret to determine the cause. Autopsy determined all had overdosed on impure synthetic spice, very few surviving who testified that nothing seemed out of sorts leading up to the event as fears of assassination seemed quashed. Not long after Imperial Regent Gaul was notified of the event who then made the Imperial Senate aware. Emergency meetings and decrees were handed down as a result, the Imperial Regency Council was left in limbo without one of its members, leaving Manko Gaul the sole successor and lone Regent to the throne. Mass propaganda was distributed across the Empire speaking of Regent Dellian's tragic death, clearly leaving out the true cause of his demise but showcased his legacy in preserving the Empire in Emperor Palpatine's absence, defeating the traitorous Grand Admiral Maddox and combating the Rebel Alliance. This sudden news shook the Empire to its core, as what efforts the Regency Council had made towards stabilizing the titanic entity since the death of Emperor Palpatine and ousting of Grand Vizier Sate Pestage, finally looking to turn the page took a step back with the loss of one of its two members. This brought forth new questions and concerns by those who opposed Regent Gaul, now having the powers to enact what he desired without the checks and balances his former peer held.

Grand Admiral Lira Serenon departed Brentaal, making a short stop at Kuat as the Executor-class Star Dreadnought Reaper was once again under her command. It was at Kuat that a major concentration of Imperial vessels was noticed, as sixteen star destroyers from various Oversectors were assigned by Imperial High Command to the Grand Admiral's authority, bringing her fleet to twenty-six star destroyers which was now suddenly a legitimate military threat wherever it was to be aimed against. This newly expanded and reformed force made way to Corellia, where any dissent was suddenly silenced with the military might of the Empire returned from repairs. The Grand Admiral worked closely alongside Rear Admiral Zhu Koxinga's five star destroyers in orbit on extensive drills and training exercises, taking lessons learned from the First and Second Battles of Corellia while also implementing tactics shown from reports within Oversector Twenty of how the New Republic conducted itself in battle. Many weeks passed as the crews grew accustomed to the new standards, as the core group of Serenon's fleet were already battle-hardened while the rest were relatively green. Orders were handed down to acquire the best and brightest pilots through a volunteer program to join the Grand Admiral, hoping to have a highly experienced and confident starfighter corps which can go against the New Republic's expert X-Wing pilots.

During this time Imperial Intelligence was tirelessly working around the clock to discover New Republic military concentrations and composition outside the relative safety of the core worlds, with a small region given high priority by the Grand Admiral to dig into. The region in question was the eastern portions of Oversector Four controlled by the New Republic, as the Empire had designated this region vital to ensuring the largest concentration of Imperial shipyards, centered around Kuat, were fully secured from any potential attack. Another reason for this was the shipyard world of Gyndine, seen as vital to not only retake for further production of star destroyers for the Empire but degrade construction and repair of New Republic capital ships in the region. Gyndine also held another secondary objective regarding the core worlds' food shortages, as the system, although nowhere comparable to the gargantuan production of Ukio, held its own robust agriculture sector which could alleviate a portion of the overall low level of foodstuffs available. Many weeks of reports from Imperial agents and cells indicated to the Grand Admiral of a limited New Republic force in the region, with assumptions of their major fleets engaged elsewhere in the galaxy. It was not long after the orders were given to depart Corellia, as thirty-one star destroyers made way to Quellor with intent to conquer further eastwards.

Elements of Grand Admiral Lira Serenon's Combined Fleet over Quellor, preparing to depart for the New Republic system of Antar

Rear Admiral Koxinga's five star destroyers jumped into the Antar system, where a small New Republic garrison was present and began to engage the Imperial force, believing them to be a raiding or reconnaissance-in-force party. What few small frigates and corvettes alongside their snubfighter complement gave the Imperials much more than they could handle, as the more motivated and experienced crews inflicted losses in the initial stages. But, thanks to the extensive training, drills and experimentally reformed command structure implemented by Grand Admiral Serenon did the tables begin to turn, as Imperial fighters inflicted rapid casualties upon what X-Wings were present, the Imperial-class Star Destroyers focused their fire on the larger vessels overwhelming their shields. Not long after the order to retreat was given by New Republic forces, leaving the system in the hands of the Empire as Grand Admiral Serenon's personal command arrived soon after, conducting a swift ground campaign against the disorganized native Gotal species on the moon of Antar Four.

Knowing time was vital to ensure surprise was kept and the New Republic unable to respond accordingly, Grand Admiral Serenon gave orders for Rear Admiral Koxinga to depart for Gyndine immediately, the aim to both determine the strength of the garrison and spring a trap with the full might of the fleet when the timing was right. Koxinga's forces, still bloodied, entered Gyndine to a moderate force of New Republic corvettes, frigates and even proper cruisers which protected the shipyards. Seeing this Imperial group as outnumbered and outgunned the order to press the attack was given swiftly, as fighters and bombers entered attack formation while Koxinga's compliments were being rapidly deployed into a defensive posture. Long-range gunfire was exchanged between both sides with a Victory II-class being destroyed by Mon Cal cruisers. It became apparent that previous Imperial tactics using their superior firepower appeared to be coming to an end, with the smaller escort craft closing the distance engaging one another and both sides' starfighters. It was clear to the Rear Admiral the odds of success alone were pure fantasy, instead looking to further draw out the New Republic force as much as possible from their orbital defenses which was now the case, as officers on the bridge of the Uueg Tching relayed their coordinates to the Grand Admiral already en route from Antar.
[-1 Vic II to Empire]

Not a moment later, twenty-six star destroyers exited hyperspace, led by the Executor-class Reaper which immediately began to unleash her devastating volleys of turbolaser fire upon the unsuspecting defenders. It became an effective slaughter as a large majority of the garrison was completely shocked by this overwhelming attack, even the chance to escape was impossible as an Interdictor-class Star Destroyer was present encasing them within the system. By the end of the battle the entire New Republic force present was wiped out in orbit of the planet, leaving the surface to the mercy of the Grand Admiral which soon after surrendered peacefully seeing her reputation on Corellia of those who defied her mercy. The entire operation was deemed a massive success by Imperial High Command, as not only did the Empire achieve a tactical victory but also regained a valuable system which may produce more capital ships for the war effort while robbing the New Republic from doing the same. Grand Admiral Serenon was once again championed as a well-respected and feared tactician and commander, given high praise within the Imperial Senate and military, with some calling for her to be appointed the new Supreme Commander left vacant since the death of Lord Vader.

Grand Moff Ong Chhau continued his policies of expanding the influence and legal powers COMPNOR wielded within Oversector Seven, as the "New Imperial" ideology he created was seen by most as a successful endeavor. With news from Imperial Center of new major investment into modernization of the Imperial StarFleet, the Grand Moff wasted no time contributing what he could, for the benefit of the Empire, COMPNOR and himself personally. Funding was distributed to the shipyards of Bilbringi where new experimental prototypes of TIE designs were made, far away from potential New Republic or Imperial Warlord raids in the western edges of the known galaxy. One particular prototype model, a TIE Interceptor with shielding and hyperdrive systems based on the TIE Defender, garnered the interest of Chhau, who desired to pilot the craft himself for use in propaganda by COMPNOR and perhaps gain favor within Imperial Center for further funding his projects. Project leaders suggested either a droid or individual of no import be the first to fly the craft, but the Grand Moff persisted, stating Imperial designs under his authority would not fail him. Not long after Chhau, during a highly orchestrated propaganda piece, piloted the craft doing basic maneuvers highlighting its agility and capability. It was afterwards a proper test of the hyperdrive was conducted, doing a short jump just outside the Bilbringi system and back to showcase its viability which would be a major development for the Empire's starfighter corps force projection. As Chhau spooled the hyperdrive and began to enter hyperspace, catastrophe struck when the experimental hyperdrive, a smaller untested variant derived from the TIE Defender failed immediately leading to an explosion of the entire craft, taking Chhau with it. News reached the highest offices within Oversector Seven soon after, leading to an emergency provisional Council of Moffs taking the duties and responsibilities of the now deceased Grand Moff, with reports then being sent to Imperial Center of the tragic event.

GALACTIC NORTH
Grand Admiral Zzavian Slyce Baobab had found a great triumph with the defeat of the now defunct Shadow Empire, conquering a significant section of the northern galaxy and cementing the Northwest Loyalist Triumvirate as a legitimate state. The amount of firepower needed to do this feat was almost the entirety of the Triumvirate's forces, which led to issues internally as piracy increased to concerning levels and those systems who perhaps wished for new rule began to show signs of dissent. As a result, once the former Shadow Empire's territories were deemed secure the Grand Admiral returned into the deep north, sequestering himself as he did a year prior to secretive projects as Grand Moff Sett Varian and Grand Vizier Sate Pestage took more of the day-to-day operations as their own. During this time ceremonies and battle awards were distributed to courageous officers and soldiers from the Ciutric Campaigns on the capital of Bastion, with pompous parades and public events showcasing their bravery and ability to be victorious against all who oppose them.

Another effort was a major relaxing of Humanocentrist policies, seeing large portions of Triumvirate space, and most importantly its biggest financial backers being non-humans it was deemed paramount to begin the process of moving away from the Empire's more draconian ideals. To further detach itself from the Empire's influence extensive efforts were undertaken to create a separate and more secure variant of the HoloNet exclusive to the Triumvirate. Doing so allowed far more control regarding propaganda, news and overall messaging that would put the Warlord State in a positive light whereas using the galaxy-wide network could lead to acts of sabotage or use of anti-Triumvirate material. To further bolster numbers within the military large pay increases and bonuses for various tasks were granted, as many citizens with unstable financial outlooks flocked to recruitment centers offering the Triumvirate fresh members within the Imperial Army ranks for internal policing work. It was hoped some defections from the Empire would come as a result of these efforts, but no significant numbers or vessels of capital ship size made the decision to join. It was declared not long after these pay increases and a noticeable lessening of piracy with the return of the main fleet of a reformation of the state, as what was previously the Northwestern Loyalist Triumvirate became the Imperial Loyalist Triumvirate with a sense of stability finally reaching this portion of the galaxy. Decrees were set by Grand Vizier Pestage that the Triumvirate was the rightful successor government to the late Emperor Palpatine's Galactic Empire, and would vow to one day return to Imperial Center as liberators from the corrupt Imperial Regency under Manko Gaul.

Commander Tessor Landon Maddox had been given an extensive authority of Triumvirate forces by Grand Admiral Baobab and Grand Moff Varian for his low rank, as both men felt confident in the one of the few remaining heirs to the late Grand Admiral Maddox to carry out their orders successfully. A large task force had been organized under Commander Maddox as eleven star destroyers led by a Bellator-class were prepared over the Argazda system for an offensive into Imperial space. This offensive in question was codenamed Operation Cerulean Hawkbat, which had somewhat rather ambitious goals of punching through Oversector Nine to reach valuable systems which could bolster the Triumvirate's economy and war effort. A large amount of probe droids were deployed across a wide swath of Oversector Nine prior to authorizing the operation, with reports noting a somewhat overall depleted Imperial garrison yet did warn of a new force entering from Oversector Eight of up to six star destroyers, acting as a mobile reserve in the region. Even with this slightly concerning information, Commander Maddox felt confident in his fleet and knew the firepower of a Bellator was one to not be underestimated, and with this gave the order to jump to the Nam'ta system and begin Operation Cerulean Hawkbat.

At Nam'ta the Imperial garrison was completely caught off guard, as what local forces present stood little chance to survive Commander Maddox's forces which were absent the Bellator, with one Imperial star destroyer taken out a few minutes into the engagement. The gas giant's local government soon after surrendered without resistance, but news of the attack soon reached other Imperial systems which sprung into action. Commander Maddox, wishing to get ahead of the Empire's mobilization in the Oversector made way to Devon where a minor garrison was present who surrendered without difficulty, alongside a relatively quick surface engagement. Maddox's forces at this point felt relatively confident that their push into Imperial territory was a sign of weakness of the Oversector's strength as probe droids had previously confirmed but new reports before suddenly being cut off detailed a major fleet coming from the core worlds towards the path of advance Maddox had been undertaking. The Commander, having little casualties or battle fatigue made the decision to instead of further conquest conduct a major raid upon his primary objective of Fest which held a large industrial base and the unique metal known as Phrik used in armor, famously known to withstand a strike from a lightsaber.
[-1 Vic I to Empire]

Maddox jumped into the Fest system, this time with his Bellator present with the expectation of meeting a moderate if not significant Imperial force. What he found was indeed a formidable fleet commanded by Vice Admiral Aedn Serk and Brigadier General Richord Jaxson's six star destroyers alongside five star destroyers deployed by Grand Moff Gilgeous Shai. Although raw numbers suggested an equal chance of victory for either side, the presence of a Bellator-class for the Triumvirate gave a decisive edge which was put to use immediately. Long-range batteries from both sides were unleashed as TIE Fighters, Bombers and Interceptor squadrons collided as hundreds were destroyed in violent fashion between the closing capital ships. Vice Admiral Serk attempted to focus what firepower he had upon the Bellator seeing it as an obvious and clear threat to his forces' survival, giving the super star destroyer a very bloody nose in the process. Maddox's escorts during this time took a beating, with two star destroyers being lost in the process while Serk lost three trying to withstand the Bellator's onslaught.

Commander Maddox's Bellator, flanked by Imperial-class Star Destroyers engaging Vice Admiral Aedn Serk's fleet over Phrik

Maddox did appear even with these losses to be inflicting an unrelenting and sustainable amount of damage and destruction upon the Imperial fleet under Vice Admiral Serk, but was shocked when reports from his probe droids, then not long after short-range sensors indicated the large fleet from the core had arrived to relieve Fest from his onslaught. The Executor-class Star Dreadnought Aegis, commanded by the recently promoted Grand Admiral Plente Poggers arrived with ten star destroyers, originally with the intent to enact offensive operations into Triumvirate space but instead was rapidly redirected to blunt Maddox's blitz before it could do more damage. Now seeing the tables completely turned and not wishing to waste both his priceless ships and own life Maddox ordered an immediate retreat from the system, as a chase ensued with Grand Admiral Poggers in hot pursuit of Maddox. The smaller and nimbler Triumvirate fleet quickly fled Imperial space back to the safety of their home territory at Argazda where Poggers did not pursue due to various reasons which drew his frustration and concern of others on Imperial Center. While Commander Maddox had failed in his objective to conquer Imperial systems within Oversector Nine, he did give the Empire a bloody nose and disrupted commerce and industrial productivity within the region alongside creating legitimate fears of another, much larger attack in the future by the rival Imperial faction which could destabilize the Regency's legitimacy in the eyes of the public and possibly the military.

Oversector Ten saw a great upheaval with the death of former Grand Moff Corvalo Septina as his intricate web of control and influence through personal-made COMPNOR positions within both the bureaucracy and military appeared to crumble overnight. The CompGovs, effectively replacing sector Moffs in terms of influence and responsibility oversaw the day-to-day matters of the Oversector until news came from Imperial Center that Moff Wardok Jounii had been declared Grand Moff and assigned to the beleaguered Oversector Ten. Grand Moff Jounii, perhaps misinformed of how extensive the roots COMPNOR had upon arrival attempted numerous reforms, reassignments and declarations of a pivot away from the zealous New Order organization to more align with Imperial Regent Manko Gaul's interests. This brought immediate blowback as many COMPNOR members rejected the idea of relinquishing their immense power in both the government and military functioning with many cases of disobeying of direct orders from the Grand Moff's office and formal complaints handed to the head of COMPNOR Lord Vandron, who also began to protest within the Imperial Senate of Jounii's actions. Instead of perhaps inciting a mutiny or possible recall to Imperial Center to answer for this crisis, almost all of his planned changes came to a halt which temporarily placated COMPNOR members and CompGovs from making further efforts to degrade his authority.

Even with this major embarrassment and loss of trust within the Oversector, Grand Moff Jounii declared an organization of all naval assets to be on full alert as further south in Oversector Eleven major battles were underway. This was also done seeing an opportune moment to strike into New Republic territory, as plans were drafted to retake as much of Oversector Ten as possible before major reinforcement could arrive. Using previously scrapped planned operations intended for the now defunct Task Force Sovereign, Juonii's twelve star destroyers, four sent by Imperial Center as reinforcements prepared over Bandomeer. Giving further confidence in offensive operations with a notable lack of Triumvirate movement north of Oversector Ten excluding a minor offensive at Telos, a majority of the Oversector's star destroyers were organized at Taris from their garrison duty with over twenty turned into a reserve in the event the Grand Moff require aid against possible New Republic counterattacks.

Grand Moff Juonii, after confirming from Imperial Intelligence of the Empire and Rim Emergency Authority's offensive in Oversector Eleven gave the green light for his own. The first target was the strategic New Republic system of Halmad, home of important hyperspace routes across the region which acted as the gateway for movement towards the east or west and also the location of Quelli Sector Academy which has been in use by the New Republic since the system's liberation years prior. New Republic forces, although knowing of suspected Imperial attacks that were highly probable in this area were undermanned as most reserves were hurriedly sent south to counter much larger threats. Even without the full complement of the garrison, the highly skilled and determined soldiers and pilots were prepared as much as they could be for Grand Moff Juonii's arrival. The formidable shielding of Mon Cal cruisers effectively negated the tried-and-true Imperial tactic of long-range battery fire, forcing their crawling move forward allowing smaller craft to take the forefront and also the majority of attention that gunners trained to. Many corvettes and frigates on both sides fell in the process alongside large swathes of fighters attempting to screen them. Chaos reigned supreme during this time as Grand Moff Juonii began to lose control of the situation with one of his star destroyers succumbing to overwhelming damage but not before colliding with a New Republic cruiser taking it down as well. This event led the New Republic to decide to cede the system and salvage what they could for another day, giving the Empire a hard earned yet bloody victory.
[-1 ISD I to Empire]

Grand Moff Juonii, even with losses amongst his fleet deemed it vital to continue before the New Republic sent reinforcements and knowing he still had a sizable reserve waiting made way to the Sheris system. Here the New Republic garrison was even smaller, deemed non-critical with a lack of movement of Imperial forces and sudden loss of news from the Shadow Empire's remains. A brief battle ensued, with the New Republic inflicting additional casualties to the Grand Moff's fighter squadrons which began to near culmination at this point, but the system was soon after pacified as the remains of the New Republic garrison fled eastwards. It was here at Sheris that Juonii after badgering by his COMPNOR-affiliated officers whom he more often than not ignored called in elements of the fleet in orbit of Taris alongside a complete replenishment of his starfighter squadrons which were mostly from COMPNOR's paramilitary fighter units on such short notice. This reformed fleet of sixteen star destroyers, five from Taris, were ready to continue to the final New Republic-controlled system within Oversector Ten at Vanquo, a major economic system centered around mining.

At Vanquo Grand Moff Juonii found a much larger than expected New Republic force of over half of dozen Mon Cal cruisers, various frigates and corvettes arrayed against him. Unlike prior where his fleet was given time to inch closer, the New Republic immediately lunged forward stunning Imperial Captains who hurriedly ordered deployments of their fighter squadrons to thwart this strike. An effective knife fight ensued between the two fleets, as turbolaser fire littered the void above Vanquo with many smaller craft being destroyed and fighter squadrons becoming scrap in mere moments. The inexperience of COMPNOR's fighter pilots and lack of combat-tested Imperial officers in this region began to take its toll as exhaustion and tactical errors led to three star destroyers being lost. Even with these high losses, the New Republic garrison had taken as many if not more of the burden, finally crumbling as the remnants jumped into hyperspace leaving many burning hulks behind.

One of the formidable Mon Calamari cruisers present at Vanquo engaging Imperial forces with their full arsenal of turbolaser batteries and B-Wing squadrons

In the aftermath of the Battle of Vanquo the New Republic had been officially ejected from the entirety of Oversector Ten, bringing great prestige yet at high cost to Grand Moff Juonii. He still felt he had enough firepower available to make one last attack within the Oversector, the region in question not under the New Republic but Mandalorian Space. A large bulk of the fleet at Taris was transferred to Vanquo, bringing Juonii's fleet to twenty-eight star destroyers, becoming on paper one of the most powerful fleets in the galaxy in mere hours. The last target for the Grand Moff's campaign was Mandalore, still recovering from the orbital bombardment conducted by the late Admiral Jubei Chinelo and offensives into Mandalorian Space by former Grand Moff Septina. It was expected to have a formidable fleet in orbit, being the homeworld of the feared and respected Mandalorian people so every precaution was taken as could be possible, knowing taking the system would be a major feat for the Empire in conquering the northeastern ends of the galaxy but concerns grew of elements of COMPNOR's lesser quality units taking more responsibility with high losses occurred during previous engagements.

The Imperial fleet jumped out of hyperspace into Mandalore where a significant Mandalorian defense was awaiting them. There were noted sightings of New Republic forces amongst this group but was mostly indigenous in both ships and manpower. The Mandalorians, knowing of the damage New Republic forces inflicted at Vanquo, did a similar strategy of rapidly closing the distance to negate the firepower of the star destroyers and put their fighters in favorable positions. Even the expanded numbers of Imperial ships did not mitigate the sheer amount of concentration of Mandalorian vessels, which had been building for well over a year for this moment as their homegrown Keldabe-class Battleships and Crusader-class Corvettes at such short distances could go blow for blow against the Empire's Imperial-class and Victory-class Star Destroyers. Mandalorian fighter squadrons were just as deadly as their New Republic allies which Grand Moff Juonii saw firsthand, most notable leading these fighters was a craft in particular the Empire knew very well.

What was known as Slave One was identified at the battle, owned by the infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett thought dead at Tatooine was now, after two years in isolation making his return to the known galaxy through the fires of battle in name of his fellow Mandalorian warriors to save their homeworld. The presence of such a figure, once known, sent an uneasy feeling through Imperial ranks as Fett struck down more and more TIE Fighters and Interceptors single-handedly showcasing his immense skill in dogfighting. The capital ships traded many losses between them, with a growing amount of burning hulls in orbit of the planet and shipyards, even some cases of Mandalorian commandos boarding isolated star destroyers taking them out of action. The sheer intensity of the battle and growing disorganization within the Imperial fleet became painfully apparent, as Grand Moff Juonii gave the order to retreat to Vanquo immediately and salvage what he could of his forces. Of the twenty-eight star destroyers that entered Mandalore, only twenty remained which severely degraded the overall ability to garrison Oversector Ten and deter future attacks from the Empire's enemies which border it.

The legendary reputation of Boba Fett was on full display for all to witness at Mandalore, as many fell to the guns of Slave One

The Shadow Empire had become a shattered shell of itself, as a majority of its once respectable fleet was destroyed and its armies annihilated in combat with the Imperial Triumvirate over months of grueling combat. The Witch-Queen Ala'el had gone dark even prior to this cataclysmic series of events, only to return briefly over the ancient Sith tomb world of Korriban where great rituals for sacrifice were conducted. The exact details, knowledge and purpose of these attempts of Sith alchemy were known only to those present, as not long after the Slaves to Darkness departed the world, it once again went into slumber where only the dead speak. Any and all information pertaining to the Witch-Queen and her followers afterwards were unknown, as what was formerly the territories of the Shadow Empire entered into anarchy or were abandoned altogether. Rumors persisted that the Witch-Queen had succumbed to the assassins and agents of the Triumvirate who were known to be hunting such individuals as her, but could not be confirmed. The era of the Shadow Empire had been a brief, but terrifying and destructive time in galactic history, the echoes of it which would continue for years to come.

GALACTIC EAST
The Denon Military Zone had undergone a decisive amount of change from within since its inception as the Imperial Unification Army, as the times had shown that continued internal reformation was required to survive in the chaotic and ever-expanding environment of war in the galaxy. Without the resources and manpower offered by the various Imperial academies and most importantly the Stormtrooper training grounds on Carida funding was allocated to create scaled down versions on Denon of both vital institutions to replace losses and expand both the officer and Stormtrooper Corps. Although it'd be estimated to take years to begin to make meaningful dividends, the new academies and training grounds were after completion already accepting new recruits and cadets to lead the Warlord State's next generation of soldiers.

Seeing the success COMPMOR had both in propaganda and counter-intelligence operations the previous few months new investment was made to further expand the suddenly powerful organization. The already efficient work of COMPMOR in internal affairs was emphasized as critical with continuous fears of infiltration by New Republic agents and cells into the Denon Military Zone's borders, as more and more agents were recruited and COMPMOR centers opened. This investment was even put into gathering intelligence in New Republic systems, hoping to discover potential offensives being organized or concentration of fortifications and garrisons in neighboring systems. The results of this pivot by COMPMOR was still in its infancy as new connections and webs of contacts and information was just beginning to form, but if given further investment could develop into a potent intelligence apparatus. It was also rumored that COMPMOR had been cooperating with Imperial Intelligence, although it could not be confirmed.

Admiral Jonus Nil Vaan took what time he could to lick his wounds from the Battle of Chardaan, as personal tours of the fleet were conducted to gauge the morale and mindset of the crews and officers. Highly lavish dinners and meetings with the higher ranking members of the Warlord State, where promotions were handed out to those who showed merit and loyalty to the Admiral and Grand General Vonsol. Holo meetings describing the events of Chardaan and New Republic methods in warfare were discussed, with the general conclusion that an influx of Imperial-class Star Destroyers were required to counter the larger Mon Cal designs becoming more frequent. In between the meetings, gatherings and dinners extensive drilling was ordered to minimize the possibility of a breakdown in the chain of command and give most crews, especially the new replacements the opportunity to simulate a battle environment.

Admiral Vaan had anticipated a large New Republic offensive under Admiral Voon Massa's Fourth Fleet into the heart of the Imperial Warlord State based out of Denon, capitalizing on the battles of Atzerri and Chardaan. This major attack, even after weeks of preparation and constant drilling of the crews never came as the Denon Military Zone's borders were concerningly quiet in comparison to previous months. The reasoning for this unexpected lull by the New Republic was still an unknown by COMPMOR and Grand General Vonsol's command staff, but was taken as an opportunity to perhaps enact revenge for the loss of Atzerri and Chardaan by conquering systems and inflicting casualties amongst the Fourth Fleet if possible. Admiral Vaan had been given extensive authority to enact an operation to achieve this new goal, as the Admiral's command ballooned from ten to twenty-two star destroyers, a majority of the Warlord State's fleet knowing Admiral Massa himself had an impressive array of capital ships available. This fleet was organized over Allanteen, preparing for their offensive as news from the north noted a major Imperial attack on Gyndine and the continued mammoth engagements in the south, giving Admiral Vaan the timing to enact his own plans of pressing the New Republic when it appeared distracted elsewhere.

The Denon Military Zone's fleet jumped into the isolated and lightly garrisoned Altier system, where the New Republic forces present had no intent to stay in light of the large force before them. Not long after prefabricated ground bases were erected, basic defenses were constructed and lines of communication and supply established, seeing the system as a valuable springboard for further movement eastwards and bulwark to defending the shipyards of Allanteen. Next in Admiral Vaan's sights was the unique yet dangerous Iktotch system, home to the highly Force-sensitive and precognitive Iktotchi who could use the Force to foresee dangerous storms on their planet, and more importantly predict future events on a galactic scale. This ability gave the Iktotchi advanced warning of an impending invading force, alerting the New Republic forces in the region which began to mobilize for this assault. Admiral Vaan was unaware of this, and sent his fleet into the system as the New Republic prepared what they could both within the system and in nearby sectors.

Once in the Iktotch system, Admiral Vaan was opposite a moderate New Republic fleet, although lacking larger MC80 vessels as a majority were frigates and corvettes it was decided that the advantage was for Vaan and he pressed for beginning the attack. Within a few moments star destroyers began unloading their fighter and bomber squadrons as turbolaser fire between both sides was unleashed. The shielding of the smaller New Republic vessels, as was shown elsewhere in the galaxy had improved considerably, minimizing the longer ranged star destroyer's batteries leading to ever closer distances which led to increasing losses on both ends. While corvettes began to be crushed by overwhelming turbolaser fire, there was an instance of a Venator-class Star Destroyer's shields being disabled by a swarm of Nebulon-B2 Frigate ion cannons and A-Wing bombing runs, which soon after was targeted and destroyed. Although losses were mounting, there was a noticeable lack of reinforcement for the New Republic, as Admiral Vaan expected the arrival of the Fourth Fleet and Admiral Massa yet it never came which was both a sigh of relief and beginnings of possible concern, believing the cunning Duro was waiting for the opportune moment to strike. This lack of aid led to New Republic forces deciding to begin withdrawing from the system, as Admiral Vaan's forces inflicted as many casualties as they possibly could, a matter of revenge for the similar circumstances they endured over Chardaan months prior. Once the smoke had cleared, the Iktotch peacefully surrendered, giving no resistance to the Warlord State's Stormtroopers and Army Troopers which established shielded bases on the unforgiving surface of the planet.
[-1 Venator to Denon Military Zone]

A member of the highly Force-Sensitive Iktotchi species, seen as messengers of great omens the Force will bring forth to the galaxy

Admiral Vaan, although having taken casualties and completing his primary objectives, had a final secondary goal centered around the system of Milagro, a prosperous trade and manufacturing world along the Corellian Run in the event he did not engage the New Republic's Fourth Fleet. The system would in theory be a vital asset for war production and allow further offensives eastwards into major industrial systems and also give a commanding presence through a majority of a major hyper route which would bring an influx of trade to Denon's coffers. Probe droids detected a small yet respectable garrison, but not enough to deter the Admiral's impressive array of star destroyers which could easily dispatch the New Republic force. Once replenishment and preparations were complete, the order was given to depart the Iktotch system where Admiral Vaan hoped for a complete victory and changing of fortunes for the Warlord State. Vaan's twenty-one star destroyers jumped just outside of expected gun range of the garrison, seeing only a handful of frigates and other smaller craft and wasted no time in pressing the attack to crush them quickly. Many of the garrison's vessels were defeated in detail, the Admiral believing he had outdone his counterpart of Massa before frantic warnings indicated a large New Republic force exiting hyperspace.

The Fourth Fleet and Admiral Massa had finally made themselves known, although unlike the Battle of Chardaan was noticeably smaller for unknown reasons but still a formidable formation. Admiral Vaan's fears of a possible trap were now made real, as his fleet was effectively pressed between the system's orbital and surface defenses and New Republic fleet. Vaan, knowing his odds of survival were pinned on escaping the vise he found himself in, ordered an immediate advance into Massa's ranks which negated the use of the planet's batteries fearing hitting their own ships. Although he avoided an absolute annihilation if he stood idle, being within such close proximity of enemy capital ships led to immense damage and destruction, as three of Admiral Vaan's star destroyers succumbed to either extensive battle damage or in one case an accidental ramming of a New Republic MC80 destroying both. After the fleet had surpassed the gauntlet and entered open space Admiral Vaan ordered an immediate retreat of the system, as most of his fleet had experienced extensive damage and their starfighter compliments depleted. Both Vaan and Massa had taken much more than a bloody nose as a result of the Battle of Milagro with expectations of both sides having to take months to recuperate their losses, although the Warlord State had lost a priceless Imperial-class which they could not currently replace. Denon's High Command once again pressed for some way to gain larger capital ships, as sending them out on campaign or even risky defensive actions could lead to their loss which they could no longer afford.

The Empire had gained an unexpected avenue of momentum eastwards of the core worlds with Grand Admiral Artis' attack of the Velmor system using overwhelming firepower backed by the Executor-class Star Dreadnought Hades weeks prior. Seen initially by most as a moment of opportunity in light of the Rim Emergency Authority's thrust into the heart of Oversector Eleven under the New Republic's control, it was taken as an extremely serious threat seeing the presence of both a Grand Admiral and Star Dreadnought which led to a massive concentration of both Regency and Warlord vessels within a few systems of each other. Although no indications highlighted any form of cooperation between both sides, New Republic forces and commanders took nothing for chance as they feared a potential alliance could be formulated much akin to the agreements between the Empire and Denon Military Zone. Warning signs of such possible agreements or even a secret ceasefire seemed more and more true as a major Regency attack at Romin was underway without interference by the Rim Emergency Authority, as Grand Admiral Artis' fleet, now backed by the highly feared and experienced Death Squadron under Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon quickly wiped away New Republic forces in the system. Most of the garrison had already withdrawn, seeing defense of the system as untenable regardless of the Empire and Rim Emergency Authority's relations or intent.

This event set alarm bells across the New Republic's northern and eastern commands, as such a force being assembled against them, and the lack of movement or reaction by the Rim Emergency Authority led to calling all available forces to the region, as Generals Skywalker and Solo were the most notable of those now present to lead the New Republic's forces in battle. It was unknown of the exact size of the New Republic's now-bolstered Second Fleet, but estimates by Imperial Intelligence and NOSEC indicated it was within the scope of the massive battle groups found in the southern galaxy commanded by Admiral Ackbar and others, showing both the Empire and Emergency Rim Authority that the New Republic was throwing most of its weight into holding Oversector Eleven from potential onslaught in this corner of the galaxy. The Empire, fresh off its victory at Romin had sixteen ships under Grand Admiral Artis, with an additional Interdictor-class reassigned under his authority by Imperial High Command giving him two of the powerful and vital ships for use. To further bolster his firepower Grand Admiral Pellaeon and Death Squadron had fifteen ships which also had been expanded with reinforcement of three star destroyers by Imperial High Command bringing the vaunted task force to eighteen star destroyers. In total this new combined Regency fleet consisted of thirty-four star destroyers, led by the Executor-class Star Dreadnought Hades which made it one of the most powerful single grouping of vessels in the Imperial StarFleet and one rightfully feared by the New Republic.

Generals Luke Skywalker and Han Solo were once again united, this time to combat the potential of a united Imperial armada

The Emergency Rim Authority was also busy during this time concentrating its forces, bringing to bear a large majority of its vessels for another try to dislodge the New Republic from Oversector Eleven and possibly degrade or even outright annihilate their naval assets in the region. By the time Supreme Protector Pho believed he was once again ready to take on the New Republic, twenty-four star destroyers were prepared over Ord Tiddell as High Admiral Zeid and Captain Liknar's commands were reassigned into a combined fleet alongside elements of various system garrisons. Reports discovered by New Republic Intelligence came out not long after of encrypted communications between the Empire and Rim Emergency Authority under the codename "Operation No Bell", confirming the initial fears and assumptions of New Republic High Command of a united effort against them, as the potential of upwards of fifty-eight star destroyers, two Star Dreadnoughts amongst them were pointed at the suddenly outgunned and outmanned defenders in the region. Further mobilization and calls for reinforcements were made, although the timing appeared to come too late as reports indicated the movement of the two large battlegroups towards New Republic space, the target appearing to be the system of Casfield where the garrison braced itself for the coming battle.

The New Republic garrison at Casfield was hurriedly bolstered with whatever forces could be mustered in such a short timetable, with a large emergency ad-hoc draft being implemented with the system's citizens taking up arms and organizing local militias which could in theory fend off Regency and Rim Emergency Authority ground forces alongside the New Republic's garrison. Experienced commanders knew this rushed creation of a defensive ground force would be entirely inadequate to fend off a full-scale Imperial invasion, most notable Admiral Hiram Drayson, commander of the New Republic Second Fleet who ordered extremely difficult directives to ensure the New Republic's and the Second Fleet's ability to continue combat operations in the region were maintained at the expected cost of the system. With the limited amount of time available, the New Republic did what it could and waited for the expected onslaught to come, as Admiral Drayson, after consultation with Generals Skywalker and Solo made their final preparations and plans, as sensor buoys detected the massive Regency-Rim Authority armada exiting hyperspace.

Forward reconnaissance discovered the combined fleet was indeed a massive formation, as fifty-eight star destroyers, led by the Executor-class Hades and Assertor-class Colossus representing the Empire and Rim Authority respectively were slated against elements of Admiral Drayson's Second Fleet, mobilized local planetary defense fleets and Casfield's orbital garrison. There was a clear lack of balance, with what appeared to be almost all of the advantage leaning towards the Imperial factions as both numbers and firepower were clearly on display against a smaller than expected New Republic fleet in orbit of the planet. Supreme Protector Pho, after brief consultation with Grand Admirals Artis and Pellaeon pressed forward, with the Rim Emergency Authority's star destroyers taking the lead as they desired to enact revenge for the high losses inflicted months prior during their limited campaigns against the New Republic. Captain Liknar's Long Range Strike Wing, given a handful of highly advanced yet still prototype TIE Interceptor models showed their worth, quickly striking down numerous New Republic X-Wing fighters, most notable were elements of the Second Fleet's Aggressor Wing present at Casfield taking heavy casualties to Liknar's unit. Fleet Admiral Zeid's Colossus was clearly seen pressing the attack, as the gargantuan star dreadnought easily pushed aside all in its path as her escorts finished off any who survived the barrage of turbolaser fire. Rim Emergency forces were now within gun range of Casfield's ground-based batteries as a back and forth began with ion cannons disabling a handful of star destroyers, which were then quickly targeted by the Colossus via a relentless orbital bombardment. Regency forces decided, seeing the success of Supreme Protector Pho's fleet, and still cautious of any ill intent, acted as the rear guard and emergency reserve as Grand Admirals Artis and Pellaeon patiently waited for the battle to conclude.

All appeared to be going to plan, as the combined fleet continued its slow yet methodical march towards the planet, destroying frigates and fighter squadrons that attempted to hold them back. Navigators frantically shouted to their superiors of various incoming signatures from multiple directions and suddenly, New Republic B-Wing and newly seen E-Wing squadrons backed by Nebulon-B Frigates sprung forth from hyperspace upon the Imperial formations. Immediately to both sides it was realized a trap had been sprung, as Han Solo's self-named Solo Command, a newly formed independent detachment backed by further elements of the Second Fleet's Aggressor Wing were now barreling down upon the shocked Imperials at lightning speed with highly advanced snubfighter models. These elite forces quickly dispatched what fighter escorts were arrayed against them, as Supreme Protector Pho hurriedly ordered Captain Liknar's Long Range Strike Wing to pivot and assist and Death Squadron's fighter detachments began to reorient to meet this new threat. It took little time to see the primary targets of Solo Command, as a large bulk of this ambush force concentrated their firepower and attention upon the Executor-class Hades and three Interdictors close by, hoping to knock out one of the Empire's Grand Admirals, priceless star dreadnoughts and battlefield-changing Interdictors, one of them controlled by the Warlord State.

Elements of Solo Command in attack formation towards the Hades and three Interdictors, looking to strike a vital blow to Imperial power

Chaos soon filled the immediate vicinity of the Hades, as hundreds of starfighters engaged one another at extremely close range, with massive turbolaser batteries from the star dreadnought and escorting star destroyers trying to act as fire support. During this time Solo Command disabled an Imperial-class Star Destroyer which was then quickly destroyed, its hull grazing the port side of the Hades as it began to slowly be dragged into Casfield which left one of the Interdictors briefly exposed as a result. The B-Wings, escorted closely by E-Wings made their advance on the Interdictor which, due to its design, had limited ability to defend itself against a focused assault. The Interdictor in question, the infamous Shadow's Web which was the lynchpin in the failure of the late Grand Admiral Maddox's coup attempt immediately after the Battle of Endor was now seeing its demise as absolute as B-Wings hammered the decorated vessel into submission, its gravity well drives exploding in spectacular fashion sending a shockwave across the entire Imperial fleet which also disabled the gravity well drives of the neighboring Interdictors. One of Solo Command's objectives had been completed, and now turned their attention upon the Hades as time was running out to deliver another major loss to the Empire.
[-1 Interdictor, -1 ISD I to Empire]

Solo Command's fighters' tenacity seemed heightened, as they were now aware of the impending pivot of both the Rim Emergency Authority's forces, which appeared late to respond and the now recovering Imperial fleet being directed temporarily by Grand Admiral Pellaeon while his peer Grand Admiral Artis put his full attention to ensuring both he and the Hades survived the engagement. Aggressor Wing's fighter detachment of X-Wings, flanked by Solo Command's preciously dwindling amount of E-Wings shielded as best as possible the B-Wings which began to bombard the superstructure of the Hades, knocking out local shield generators and turbolaser towers, drawing ever closer to the command bridge where Grand Admiral Artis stood. Just as it appeared that the Empire would lose another Grand Admiral and Executor did Captain Liknar, personally commanding the Long Range Strike Wing throw themselves into the New Republic's line of sight upon the Hades' bridge leading to catastrophic casualties for Solo Command and Aggressor Wing as frontal and strafing attacks came swiftly and decisively with little to no room to maneuver in the cityscape of the star dreadnought. Death Squadron's fighter detachments soon after joined the fray, wiping out what remnants remained that did not retreat. Once this attack was deemed a failure, the New Republic garrison ordered a general retreat to Garos, knowing the timetable was open with the remaining Interdictors unable to trap them in the system.

In the immediate aftermath of the battle, Grand Admiral Artis was furious with his peers of the Rim Emergency Authority due to their lack of quick response to the ambush the New Republic had deployed, seeing his command ship heavily damaged and the complete loss of one of his Interdictor-class Star Destroyers and the other needing urgent repairs to its gravity well drives rendering it unusable for the immediate term. A shouting match over holocalls was described by higher-ranking officers present, with both sides blaming the other for the result leading to a souring of relations and degradation of trust between the Empire and Imperial Warlord State's military commanders as tensions began to rapidly rise. Thankfully for the short-term Grand Admiral Pellaeon, much akin to his efforts after Endor negotiated an unsteady, yet reasonable settlement between the now strained sides to complete their initial goals of ejecting the New Republic from Oversector Eleven and through a decisive battle eliminate as much of the Second Fleet as possible. Both factions grumbled and began to rotate out the heavily damaged vessels and replenish their losses while the ground campaign on Casfield began to conclude, with the Empire declaring the system under their control.

The combined fleet, even with their now clear fissures apparent among the ranks, finally entered the Garos system even as the Hades still showed visible damage from the previous battle but was deemed satisfactory for participating in the engagement. Supreme Protector Pho and Fleet Admiral Zeid, although still distracted by their quarrels with the Regency's commanders turned their attention to what appeared to be a large portion if not entirety of the New Republic's Second Fleet in orbit of Garos, as a feeling of excitement overcame them as their plans of enacting a decisive battle had come true. For the Regency fleet there was both a timid yet similar feeling the Rim Emergency Authority's forces felt, as the opportunity to degrade the New Republic's military ability in this region of the galaxy was open. Unlike the Battle of Casfield, the Regency fleet this time was now amongst the Rim Emergency Authority, as both fleets now became one, condensed formation to ensure any ruses set by the New Republic could be nullified, and for Regency officers their Imperial counterparts would also suffer if something did occur.

Unknown to the Imperials were the plans of the New Republic, knowing this combined fleet even without the use of Interdictor star destroyers and a damaged Executor was still an extremely tall task to defeat decided to deploy a close quarters strategy, similar to methods used by Admiral Ackbar at Endor to negate the long-range firepower of star destroyers and allow the strength of the New Republic's snubfighters and smaller craft's ability to use agility against brute force. The entirety of the Second Fleet, remains of Solo Command and a small squadron of personal craft led by General Skywalker charged hard for the heart of the Imperial formation, with many larger craft such as MC80s being pummeled into oblivion by concentrated turbolaser fire. It was unfortunately not enough to deter the determined defenders, as what was only moments before a duel of gunnery transformed into a quagmire of point-blank trading of blows as both New Republic and Imperial vessels took intense punishment as a result.

The infamous Millennium Falcon piloted by Han Solo and Chewbacca, fighting tooth and nail in the Second Battle of Garos

Alongside General Skywalker and his X-Wing, once again showing his skill in dogfighting above the planet was the presence of an unlikely ally in former Jedi Ahsoka Tano who usually pilots the T-6 1974 was for this battle in possession of an X-Wing of her own, striking down many TIE Fighters and Interceptors throughout the fleet. Skywalker, Solo and Tano suddenly became the primary target for destruction, wanting to enact revenge both for the First Battle of Garos and death of the Emperor at Endor for the Rim Emergency Authority and Empire respectively. Captain Liknar, seen as the best pilot amongst the Imperials, accepted the challenge of defeating the orchestrator of the Emperor's demise and denial of the Warlord State's glorious expansion, ordering the Long Range Strike Wing into attack formation. Although Liknar and his fellow pilots were highly trained and elite at their profession, Skywalker and Tano in particular had the upper hand from the start, almost as if they were guided by an unnatural aid which gave them abilities beyond comprehension while Han Solo and Chewbacca had what appeared to be incredible luck on their side. All three vessels and their escorts began to wither away at Liknar's compliment, while both he and Skywalker engaged in what was by far the most incredible display of individual dogfighting skill in modern history. Although many hits were registered to Skywalker's X-Wing, the Jedi Knight had the final strike as he delivered a vital blow to the engines of Liknar's prototype TIE Defender, leading to his craft plunging into Garos where he soon after crash landed, miraculously surviving the event. It was said afterwards in rumors and legends he only survived due to injecting himself during the battle with large amounts of spice, giving him superhuman ability being able to live through the ordeal.

With Liknar and his fighter complement's loss, a dangerously obvious depletion of both Imperial forces' screens was starting to show, leading to the loss of numerous star destroyers for both factions as the New Republic chipped away at exposed or outer ring of the core defenses of the Imperial fleets. This was not without severe losses to their own, as many Mon Cal cruisers were destroyed trying to peel away at the layered defense arrayed against them. Although progress was being made to do just what was originally envisioned, the price was becoming too high to accept, with Admiral Drayson, both reluctantly and with a heavy heart, ordered the withdrawal of all New Republic forces from Garos. A messy disengagement began, with New Republic forces unentangling themselves from the Imperial fleets and entering more defensive formations preparing to leave the system intact. Many New Republic craft stayed behind as the rear guard to ensure most of the surviving Second Fleet could escape, giving their lives in the end but not before taking out overzealous star destroyers trying to eliminate the vulnerable ships about to enter hyperspace. It was decided to live to fight another day, knowing they inflicted mass casualties that would not be easy to replace, and systems further east and north were heavily fortified which would be difficult to defeat.

Once the final ships and fighters departed the system, a bitter mood and feeling of disgust set in for the Regency fleet, as officers began to openly question why they were aiding traitors to the New Order with so many of their comrades lost in the process, not even able to claim Garos as their own as the Rim Emergency Authority began to enact their ground offensive to root out what New Republic forces remained and have it for themselves. Grand Admiral Artis, already incensed and now beyond livid at the result of the campaign, gave the order to immediately depart Garos for Casfield, with the most damaged ships going further west towards the core for long-term repairs. Relations between the Empire and Rim Emergency Authority began to plummet near to levels immediately after the Warlord State's formation, as many members of the Imperial Senate and Imperial High Command demanded answers, and some even revenge for what was seen as an embarrassment to Imperial legitimacy and competency in Oversector Eleven.

High Moff Randall Kursk, seeing the slow yet steady progress his anti-corruption efforts had made to certain sectors of the Tolonda Union's bureaucracy authorized further funding to the task forces assigned to root out corrupt and Hutt-aligned officials that still festered. A focus was put upon what were deemed the middlemen within the government and military, seeing sufficient turnover at the highest levels of office to continue down the ranks where there were plenty of targets to discover and eliminate. Initial results and reports indicated the most vital sectors where the Hutts had worked their way into had been blunted or outright removed with more loyal and competent individuals which could be trusted by the state to carry out their directives. Even with this positive progress, the pace which the High Moff continued to advocate for would slow the amount of those Hutt-aligned officials being removed but minimized any side effects or sudden violent reactions from the Hutts, Black Sun or other crime organizations. This was shown in the Issor and Vor Deo systems on the southern edges of Tolondan space, where Hutt influence and corruption saw a legitimate degradation as Tolondan bureaucrats, officers and other government officials cast aside whatever allegiances the Hutts and other crime organizations offered, bringing the High Moff and his closest advisors confidence their more methodical campaign to root out the corrupt and compromised was finally paying dividends in contrast to Zelta Kul's more radical methods.
[Hutt Influence Removed from Issor, Vor Deo]

Gathering of intelligence was given top priority alongside the anti-corruption campaign by the High Moff, as a large array of probe droids and long-range sensors were put online to monitor any possible movement by the New Republic or Hutts. Rumors from Hutt Space spoke of Imperial-designed probe droids roaming their systems, which some where found and destroyed which further incensed the Hutt clans of continued aggression and violations of not only the status quo but their territories. Emphasis was around the destroyed facilities of Kessel which were in the process of being partially rebuilt although found it would take billions of credits and years to do so, especially when taking into account a complete lack of quality control by the Hutts. Although the probe droids did give information it was brief as most completed their tasks then enacted their self-destruct protocols while others were found and destroyed, with the long-range scanners reactivated or created giving what information they could gather for future use with a new command center organizing these scanners at Scarif being built.

Now promoted Rear Admiral Zelta Kul's draconian decrees and laws of tightening the iron grip of the state upon both the populace and criminal organizations was at its height. The previous month's decision to relocate insurgents, assassins and mercenaries into labor camps was expanded to their immediate family in an extreme act to both deter and intimidate those who had aligned with the Hutts or others. This act drew immediate backlash from the populace as it was now obvious to the commoner, some who had no connection, ties or allegiance to their kin being whisked away to die in camps in unknown locations across Tolondan space. Overzealous anti-Hutt paramilitary units created months prior exacerbated this as they rounded up larger and larger amounts of suspected Hutt sympathizers and their families with little effort into investigation of validity to do so, overloading what camps, prisons and facilities the Union had. Even hardliner officials to the government began to grumble at the Rear Admiral's methods, fearing a general strike and possible revolution against the Warlord State's authority. Eventually the Rear Admiral was forced to revoke the policy, although her reputation within the Tolonda Union had taken a dive and was generally thought as an untrustworthy tyrant on the level of if not worse than the Hutts.

The Tolonda Union's prison population continued to grow to levels unseen anywhere else in the galaxy, severely straining the already overburdened system to its breaking point

An expansion of the Tolonda Union's borders was declared, as four new systems joined either through a brief military conquest or diplomatic overtures. The systems of Gaulus, Tammuzan, Shola and most notably Manda were now a part of the Warlord State. The Baobab family and merchant clan on Manda were given many autonomous powers much akin to the Milarian system allowing free trade and goods from the New Republic to flow without issue. During this time Rear Admiral Kul engaged in an anti-piracy campaign both within existing and these new systems of Tolondan space, eliminating and deterring numerous non-aligned or minor groups and Hutt raiding parties. Rumors even spread from within Hutt Space of armed sponsors aiding minor slave revolts, some of these agents and movers captured and detailing their origins which had the repercussions of a calling of the Hutt Ruling Council which had only previously been done two years prior to blunt the Tolonda Union's expedition to Kessel. The discussions and final decision of the council was unknown, but many within Tolondan circles feared that Rear Admiral Kul had gone beyond the point of no return with the Hutts and an open war could soon begin.

GALACTIC SOUTH
Oversector Twenty was awash with movement of men, material and information, as the Empire and New Republic continued their long slog of attrition warfare with no end in sight. The recent setback in the southern core was deemed a failure and breach of intelligence, as reports handed down by the Imperial Regency indicated moles and double agents were festering through the ranks within Oversector Twenty. This was seen as a concerted effort by the New Republic to gather information to properly counter what moves the Empire made in the region, the most vital was the lack of forces in the southern core leading to its loss in the past five months. To tackle this crisis before it became untenable, Grand Admiral Solaris and Grand Moff Maxcetus, with aid of the now bolstered Imperial Intelligence Services under Director Blackhole began wholesale investigations and crackdowns on suspected spies and traitors to the Empire, with many New Republic cells and double agents apprehended before they could escape. It was assumed a large quantity of the New Republic's ability to acquire information in Oversector Twenty had plummeted as a result, leading to some in Imperial High Command and among both Solaris and Maxcetus' officer corps believe that their opportunity to strike was now as a window had been opened with the New Republic effectively blind beyond the frontline systems.

COMPNOR during this time was given more extensive authority over control of information on the HoloNet in Oversector Twenty by order of Grand Admiral Solaris, alongside their efforts of aiding Imperial Intelligence in rooting out spies and enemy agents. Many independent news entities based in the Oversector were Imperialized by COMPNOR as a result of these newly expanded powers. Any "unfavorable" reports they previously published were quickly removed and replaced with pro-Imperial and what were essentially propaganda pieces showcasing the Empire's might and countless victories. What protests or dissent that rose from these actions were quickly suppressed by COMPNOR, and with their new-found media outlets began to run smear campaigns on any individuals or groups that dared oppose them. Lord Vandron and members of the Select Committee seemed initially pleased with Grand Admiral Solaris' work, himself a fellow member of the Select Committee garnering him more praise for his devotion to the organization and Empire. While COMPNOR was already an overwhelming presence in the everyday lives of citizens, it was perhaps reaching its limits against the will of the people they continued to attempt to sway to their cause and that of the New Order.

A common sight on COMPNOR-controlled news outlets throughout Oversector Twenty, showcasing the immense influence it has on society

While COMPNOR was busy rewriting history, Grand Moff Maxcetus looked into matters of military quality in the Empire's Starfighter Corps, as it continued to either be heavily strained or degraded due to the high intensity fighting in the region. A short-term initiative was authorized by the Grand Moff to fast track the Empire's TIE Interceptor expansion programs, distributing credits to local sector commanders and wings to improve their TIE Fighter and TIE Interceptor inventory as they see fit, knowing they had by far the best exposure to the weaknesses of both designs. As the weeks progressed many new sub variants began to crop up, with some boasting limited shield generators, others a proper life support system installed were the most common seen while others tested more powerful engines and a handful had a questionable pilot ejection system, hoping to at minimum save the pilot in the event of loss of the craft although the odds seemed low.

Grand Moff Maxcetus also focused heavily on lessening the stress of the local economy, with directives handed down to the numerous Control Commissions which began their work. The two primary focuses were in regards to resource extraction and balancing the budget, as many members within the Control Commissions stated the first could, with time, be resolved but the latter would need intervention by Imperial Center. Contracts were handed out to corporations and conglomerates which mostly were based out of the Tapani Sector and some which were rumored to originate from the Corporate Sector Authority via proxies to explore new or reactivate dormant locations deemed of interest across the Oversector. Many promising sites were being constructed which began to slowly transport raw materials across the Oversector to be made into finished products. While the Grand Moff expected these newfound materials and goods to be sent to the core worlds, a large majority were instead used within Oversector Twenty as demand was high for what was now suddenly becoming available, most of it used by Imperial military facilities or subcontractors to continue the war effort. The Control Commissions did, with what limited options were available to them, begin overviewing the Oversector's budget, unveiling that it was indeed at astronomical levels due entirely to maintaining the Imperial StarFleet, bloated Imperial Army and CompForce forces within its borders. The mounting debt could not realistically be reined in unless a sudden miracle occurred as many measures that were already in place were expanded such as Imperial War Bonds, although members of the Imperial Senate took notice once aware and notified the Imperial Regent of the situation.

A sudden shock throughout Imperial channels was noticed as a very large task force, led by an Executor-class entered Oversector Twenty, as most initially believed the Annihilator being constructed at Corellia had been completed earlier than expected. Instead higher-ranking officers were made aware by Imperial High Command that the Eclipse and that of Shadow Squadron had been given safe passage through Imperial space, making themselves known from the dormant and sequestered deep core, as it appeared the Imperial Bastion and Empire had made a pact of cooperation. Shadow Squadron soon after made their temporary home at Fondor, where many uneasy officers and commanders could only stare at the highly elite formation of the late Emperor, unknown of their intent or allegiance. During this time, the mysterious individual known as Darth Avitus, seen as the successor to Darth Vader to those who created and spread such stories, was being touted as a feared and powerful figure, much akin to the late Dark Lord of the Sith. It was noticed by those who briefly mingled with members of Shadow Squadron of their heightened awareness and feeling of unity in their actions, even the mundane was done in good order in comparison to other Imperials which garnered the attention of those who envied them for their appearance of excellence.

Known only to the highest levels of Oversector Twenty's command was Grand Admiral Solaris' grand strategy to overturn recent losses to the New Republic, as Operation Thunderstruck was enacted. Imperial channels indicated a massive influx of material and manpower along the Corellian Trade Spine, centered on the Roona and Bestine systems, with what appeared to be almost one hundred capital ships divided between the two systems with heavy patrols along the hyperlane being rumored as a result. Imperial Intelligence then indicated the New Republic was making moves to counter this inevitable major offensive, with news of Mon Cal cruisers being spotted along frontline systems where there were none before. Crimson Command under Grand Admiral Irov Lanin and Admirals Vaine and Vane's commands were found to be heavily involved in these patrols, giving the impression that the Empire was indeed preparing to be on the attack.

Imperial Regent Gaul, at the behest of his officers, handed down orders to Imperial High Command to bolster Oversector Twenty's military strength as ten star destroyers were transferred from various Oversectors to Grand Admiral Solaris' command, giving the talented commander a fleet which originally comprised of nine but now nineteen ships. Grand Moff Maxcetus was also busy reorganizing the Oversector's composition with the creation of four new task forces, dubbed Acencsion, Breaker, Ultra and Cantaina to either directly aid Operation Thunderstruck or prepare defenses along the frontline systems. Newly promoted High Admiral Druno Vaine was stationed over the vital shipyard world of Yag'Dhul, with expectation of his participation of attacks southwards along the Corellian Trade Spine or Rimma Trade Route.

With all of this preparation giving out very loud signals of an attack in the southern and eastern ends of Oversector Twenty, in reality it was a grand ruse orchestrated by Grand Admiral Solaris and Grand Moff Maxcetus, as a large concentration of the Oversector's capital ships were organizing over the Giju system for a major push to retake systems in the southern core and press into long-held New Republic territory on the western ends of the known galaxy. Shadow Squadron, which had been inactive since its arrival over Fondor soon joined Grand Admiral Solaris for his operation, ballooning the already impressive formation from nineteen to a massive fifty-three capital ships, two of them Executor-class immediately becoming the most powerful concentration of vessels in the galaxy. This already formidable fleet was then given more reinforcement by Grand Admiral Lanin, who had decided knowing he could not be overruled by his peer Solaris, brought the entirety of Crimson Command to Giju to join the offensive. This drew the ire of Solaris, who only requested a portion of Crimson Command for his use as the remaining portions of the large Victory II-class task force was earmarked for assisting in the overall defense of Oversector Twenty. Although tensions were now suddenly apparent, Grand Admiral Solaris cautiously moved forward with his plans, notifying the necessary commands that they would not have the services of Grand Admiral Lanin's ships. This brought Solaris' once large fleet into a true armada as it swelled from fifty-three to eighty-eight star destroyers, mirroring such numbers seen during Grand Admiral Maddox's insurrection over Imperial Center. After days of preparation and the last draft of planning complete with a brief yet direct conversation with Admiral Deviroc and Darth Avitus of Shadow Squadron, Grand Admiral Solaris over Imperial comms surrounding Giju gave the final order to depart the system and enact vengeance upon the New Republic.

The Executor-class Star Dreadnought Shadowsun with its expanded assortment of escort star destroyers, its sistership Eclipse and Shadow Squadron close by preparing to depart Giju

The Imperial armada exited hyperspace over Dentaal, where elements of the New Republic Third Fleet under Admiral William Burke were present, currently in the process of constructing or repairing existing orbital defenses. It was a complete shock for the severely outgunned and undermanned defenders, as hordes of TIE squadrons of various models flooded the immediate space around the planet, completely annihilating any who dared resist backed by dozens of star destroyer turbolaser batteries. There was no chance of escape either, as Shadow Squadron's Interdictor-class Star Destroyer, the Abyss, was actively encasing all from trying to flee. Even news of this attack was entirely suppressed from spreading as a complete communications blackout was enacted, ensuring Operation Thunderstruck could continue its lightning offensive before being detected and counter-attacks formulated. The ground garrison's fate was much like its orbital counterpart, with a noted presence of Shadow Squadron's elite formations deployed led by mysterious figures, some stating without evidence they may be the Inquisitorius whom have been silent and inactive since the Battle of Endor.

The armada then made way to the northern end of the Rimma Trade Route at Abregado-rae, where it was noted the New Republic garrison was smaller than expected, with assumptions made that the Third Fleet was indeed spread out over numerous systems along the frontlines or in reserve deep behind, giving Grand Admiral Solaris further confidence his plans were going better than expected. Much a similar result to Dentaal was observed at Abregado-rae, with extensive showing of Shadow Squadron's fighter detachments taking the initiative with little loss, as the formation appeared better coordinated and prepared in comparison to Solaris' and Lanin's commands, which the latter began to openly detest with protests that the mysterious Darth Avitus and Shadow Squadron were taking the attention and glory of the Empire for themselves and the Imperial Bastion. At Eamus and Gerrard the tidal wave of Imperial durasteel and brute force continued unabated, but it appeared the veil had been finally pulled away, as the New Republic was aware that the Empire was now actively retaking the systems it had lost in the southern core while the supposed offensives elsewhere it was preparing for were not occurring.

It was at Illodia that the New Republic began to muster a proper response, with Admiral Burke organizing what elements of the Third Fleet that were present in the region he could, as Dahrtag, Kitel Phard and Questal were emptied and evacuated, knowing if Illodia fell they would be effectively cut off from reinforcement. Burke's expanded fleet was impressive in comparison to the standard Imperial task force, but was dwarfed by what was arrayed against him under the combined Imperial armada as they now knew the true extent of what was barreling down towards them. It was at Illodia a clear shift in the overall operation of Imperial forces was seen, as Shadow Squadron transitioned from the frontline force to the rear guard, leaving a gap that was quickly filled by Grand Admiral Lanin's Crimson Command, with Grand Admiral Solaris slightly concerned over this sudden change, seeing one of the powerful Executors would be in a supporting role instead of being the tip of the spear. Even with doubts of the competency of Lanin and lack of genuine trust with Avitus and Deviroc, the order to attack was given knowing if Burke's fleet was eliminated the chance to begin a breakthrough southward would be made plausible.

Even without Shadow Squadron's close-range direct fire support, Solaris and Lanin's elements were still an extremely deadly obstacle for Burke, as long-range gunnery was underway, with many of Burke's capitals even with their improved shielding were knocked out one by one via concentrated ion cannon then turbolaser fire. The frigates and other support craft were then targeted by Crimson Command, when Lanin gave increasingly aggressive orders to attack and wipe out the Third Fleet's remaining vessels, looking to claim the battle was his achievement over Solaris or Avitus as three star destroyers were lost in doing so. Burke, already coming to the conclusion he had no chance of winning, prepared to cede the system to the Imperials, drawing closer to a more defensive position on the dark side of Illodia where the larger more cumbersome star destroyers still in formation would take time to reach. Even in doing this to preserve what he could, many more ships were lost attempting to act as the last line of defense, with MC80s and the few MC90s available being destroyed to buy the time needed to escape the Abyss' gravity well range. Burke and the few ships that survived the onslaught escaped to Hjaff, bringing Solaris' Phase One of Operation Thunderstruck to reclaim the southern core worlds lost previously to reality as Dahrtag, Kitel Phard and Questal were soon after reconquered by Grand Moff Maxcetus' Task Force Ultra's four star destroyers under Admiral Vane.

Grand Admiral Solaris' star destroyers engaging and getting the upper hand of Admiral Burke's Mon Calamari cruisers

Phase Two of Operation Thunderstruck aimed to break the heavily fortified New Republic systems of Hjaff, Omar and Candoria which have been built up extensively since the Battle of Endor, which would finally allow the "soft underbelly" of the long-stagnant frontlines to be attacked from an unexpected and undefended western direction. Although concerns continued with Grand Admiral Lanin's overzealous actions, and lack thereof of Avitus' the time to strike seemed to be now in Solaris' eyes, as final preparations were made as Task Force Breaker comprising twelve star destroyers was held in reserve over Illodia. Task Force Acencsion under the direct command of Grand Moff Maxcetus was also given the signal to begin her diversionary attacks along the western frontline systems, hoping to tie down what reserves were held back, and perhaps the unseen Admiral Ackbar who usually commands the Third Fleet.

The armada jumped out of hyperspace into the Hjaff system, which housed the remains of Admiral Burke's forces alongside the impressive orbital defenses and garrison of the planet. Unlike previous battles, this was by far the most difficult for Grand Admiral Solaris which was expected, Imperial Intelligence's assessment proven correct in regards to the sophistication of the layers of orbital platforms and detection of ground-based ion cannons. Even with this information, it was still believed Burke and his forces would after extensive bombardment crumble to the firepower the Imperials possessed. A slow, methodical crawl forward was ordered, with Crimson Command once again leading the attack, Solaris as the second line and Shadow Squadron as rear guard and reserve. Grand Admiral Lanin, still overconfident and in envy of gaining influence and power back on Imperial Center pressed as he did at Illodia, breaking formation with the overall armada which Solaris cursed for him to return to as Crimson Command began targeting whatever they could as they raced towards the orbital defenses of the planet.

Instead of making a rash decision which could jeopardize his own ships and the overall operation, Solaris instead kept to his plan, going at a snail's pace eliminating the largest and most dangerous capital ships and orbital platforms from a distance, with the Eclipse not far behind firing her guns into New Republic vessels at the most extreme ranges possible. Lanin gave no concern to casualties or the possibility of being isolated from fire support of the main bulk of the fleet, as losses began to mount as two of his star destroyers were destroyed via attack runs by New Republic B-Wings and many others showing damage. Regardless of this blatant disregard for strategy or a cohesive command structure, the battle was going in favor of the Imperials, as the overall fortifications surrounding the planet had been effectively neutralized and Admiral Burke's fleet down by well over half its original size. Victory seemed assured, as Solaris began to smile until navigators indicated a large signature entering the system from the south. Admiral Ackbar, and what appeared to the majority of the Third Fleet had finally arrived to meet Solaris, with elements of Firmus Nantz's First Fleet present, emblems highlighted on their ships indicating so.
[-2 Vic II (CC) to Empire]

With Ackbar now in the system commanding a fleet which could match Solaris' combined armada although mostly composed of smaller vessels, an immediate pivot to the defense was ordered, as Solaris barked at Lanin to immediately retreat to the safety of his star destroyers. Lanin, now seeing the consequences of his actions, attempted to scramble back Crimson Command in what became an extremely chaotic and close quarters quagmire. Many of Crimson Command's ships were overpowered by Ackbar's much larger and better protected ships which began pummeling the Grand Admiral's formation, as five of the red-clad Victory II-class Star Destroyers were wiped out in mere minutes trying to escape. Solaris in response sent forward a handful of his own star destroyers to support his beleaguered peer, calling for aid from Admiral Deviroc which was refused, infuriating the Grand Admiral during this critical moment. Of the detachment sent forward by Solaris, one was knocked out by Ackbar's flagship Home One shielding half a dozen of Crimson Command, as the scarred task force barely made it back into formation, showing severe damage in battle at such extremely close ranges.
[-1 ISD I, -5 Vic II (CC) to Empire]

A Victory II-class Star Destroyer of Crimson Command engaged in high intensity combat over Hjaff, many of them were lost during the battle

Grand Admiral Solaris, overviewing the battlefield situation knowing Crimson Command had reached culmination while Shadow Squadron continued to be inactive outside of long-range volleys made the decision to cede the moment to his bitter rival of Ackbar, retreating from Hjaff for Illodia in good order. The decision was done to preserve his forces, consolidate the gains the Empire had made and ensure reserves were present to stave off any potential counter-attacks along the entire front of Oversector Twenty. Solaris stationed himself over Abregado-rae to meet any moves by Ackbar to return to the southern core, while Lanin limped to Fondor for urgent repairs, and calls for reprimand to Imperial Center for his conduct during Operation Thunderstruck by those who were present during it. Shadow Squadron detached itself from Solaris' united command, making way to Fondor for refueling and resupply, unknown if they would stay or depart the region soon after. Grand Moff Maxcetus also ceased her raids along the western ends of the frontlines, returning to Fondor as well to monitor the overall situation of the Oversector and await any reports of attacks by the New Republic.

Imperial High Command and Senate praised both Grand Admiral Solaris and Grand Moff Maxcetus for their work in retaking and securing the lost southern core systems, giving understanding pause to the failure of further gains beyond. Grand Admiral Lanin's after action report did raise legitimate questions on his capability to lead, as the reputation of Imperial Regent Gaul's military acumen was somewhat smeared due to his decision to promote Lanin to a high position of power which he has shown as unable to handle. Shadow Squadron and Avitus were shown to have confirmed the late Emperor's most elite fleet as the best of the best in the galaxy, with the unknown figure's name being spread across the Imperial StarFleet as perhaps one of the most competent figures that others should envy. Even with Avitus' rise in popularity and mystery, trust for Grand Moff Ronntal Valrin's confidant was shaky at best, seeing the participation of Shadow Squadron minimize within the larger engagements during Operation Thunderstruck. What was known was that major battles much like those at Illodia and Hjaff were certain to be repeated, the question was which side would initiate such large concentrations to begin major offensives first.

Supreme Moff Niles Motti, seeing the relative success and necessity to acquire intelligence on the New Republic which borders the Imperial Warlord State, gives directives and a large injection of credits to the Commissary to begin spreading their ability to both track and warn of possible assault amongst the frontline systems. Although information on the deeds and results the Commissary began to conduct in the months moving forward, what was generally accepted was a very satisfactory response from the High Moff and his subordinates who overviewed what flowed in, giving them what was assumed favorable news and better odds of anticipating the New Republic's moves in the region. What was known internally was a large-scale campaign, much like their peers of Imperial Intelligence and COMPNOR in Oversector Twenty, of rooting out New Republic cells and spies, with many news reports stating the arrest and executions of known terrorists linked to the rebel group. Rumors also stated but were quickly quashed by the Commissary of a large concentration of assets on a particular operation, unknown to many except the highest-ranking officials within the military and intelligence apparatus but deemed vital to the long-term sustainability to the Warlord State.

The High Command of the Seswenna Stellar Authority was reorganized into the Joint Chiefs, led by five of the most powerful officers and individuals within the government and military which would in theory allow a smoother and united command structure to coordinate the war effort. The five in question were Moff Jaren, Admirals Natasi Daala and Sander Delvardus, Commissar Colo Donnall and General Corr Haruss who all answered to Supreme Moff Motti. These five leaders, all talented in their own right, had ambition to further strengthen their position, seeing their peers as rivals to achieve their goals which could begin to undermine one another and raise tensions between themselves. The Supreme Moff, many believing he would be concerned over such a possibility, brushed aside these theories as fantasy made to divide and weaken the government and military believing this was the best method to defeat the New Republic.

OTHER EVENTS
  • Reports and rumors emanating from the Core Worlds speak of a "Resurgence of the Sith Order", which brings alarms to the Imperial government of possible usurpers or radical cultists attempting to overthrow the Regency and Senate, before such things are suppressed by Imperial Intelligence and COMPNOR it is known some individuals and groups were drawn by the offerings of whomever declared these statements.
  • Imperial Regent Manko Gaul authorizes the creation of a new specialized task force, based on Crimson Command. Amaranth Command, comprising thirty-four newly built Victory II-class Star Destroyers is organized over Duro awaiting assignment of a commander and theatre of operations.

  • Warlord of the Empire Valentinian Venis, given orders to conduct an offensive into Triumvirate space, declines to do so on grounds of not wishing to severely degrade Bright Jewel Command's capability or existence as the powerful and feared Scourge Squadron returns to the western ends of the Imperial-Triumvirate borders.
  • Rim Emergency Authority decrees and measures to maintain and further streamline a total war economy continue unabated with rumors of facilities being constructed for new advanced prototype fighter designs.
  • An increase within the Rim Emergency Authority's propaganda efforts is clearly noticed by citizens within the Imperial Warlord State, emphasizing revenge against the New Republic for battlefield losses and general instability both locally and galactically.
  • The Stormtrooper training grounds and academy on Kamino are completed, allowing the Tolonda Union the ability to replenish both its Stormtrooper and officer corps. The now immense facilities on Hypori are also designated as complete, churning out massive quantities of new equipment for Tolondan forces, most notably new infantry armor designed for the Stormtrooper Corps.
  • Construction of fortifications along the New Republic-Tolondan border continue by the Imperial Warlord State, with fears of an offensive in light of the major engagements further west as reasoning for doing so.

  • News from Corellia states the completion of the Annihilator, the final Executor-class Star Dreadnought ordered by the Empire, it is reported to be deployed for operations in Oversector Twenty, bringing even more massive quantities of firepower to the region.
  • Supreme Moff Motti continues enacting decrees regarding further expansion of fortifications of the Seswenna Stellar Authority's systems, with Dolla, Shumavar and the already formidable Eriadu made into effectively impenetrable fortresses against potential New Republic attacks.
  • Reports surface that pilot training programs within the Seswenna Stellar Authority are more focusing on slower, shielded craft instead of the more faster and unprotected TIE Fighter and TIE Interceptor, giving life to rumors of new designs being developed and soon to be under serial production.
  • The Seswenna Stellar Authority authorizes the creation of new awards, orders and medals to its best and brightest military members, while similar processes are done in the civilian sector which appear to be given out to those deemed sycophants to the Supreme Moff's growing cult of personality.
  • Reports indicate from New Republic space of a shift in overall strategy towards a defensive nature in light of recent major Imperial offensives, indicating the end of the so-called "Ackbar Offensive" started over a year prior and entering a new phase of the Galactic Civil War.
  • Chancellor Mon Mothma's popularity begins to wane in light of the loss of numerous systems across multiple fronts to the Empire and its splinter factions with high casualties, as more hawkish groups of the New Republic's government led by Borsk Fey'lya and Garm Bel Iblis demand new leadership to spearhead the war effort and liberate the galaxy.
  • Across the galaxy reports indicate mass kidnappings of various peoples of all ages and species, with all suspected of being Force-Sensitive. The perpetrators and reasoning for these events is unknown, or even known if they are linked although investigations are underway.

TRANSMISSIONS FROM THE OFFICE OF IMPERIAL REGENT GAUL

ON THE PASSING OF NOBLE DELLIAN

"It is with unknown intent that those who burn the brightest are often extinguished before their time; Val Dellian stands as another great man of history lost in its encompassing wake. Of proper birth, of proper temperament, of proper service - Dellian is a figure to be respected and emulated by the youth of our time, a servant in every sphere to the purposes of a New Order.

Perhaps no man was closer to him than I, for together we served in the highest duties, bonded over the great burdens of rulership over this grand Empire. As a partnership, we steered the course of the galaxy towards a better future and I cannot and would not diminish the role of Val Dellian in righting our course have a successive time of mismanagement and personalism within our highest offices. Were it not for his support, the loyal many within our government may have been subverted by a shadowy few.

There is so much more to be said as a man like Val Dellian - and I trust his life will be retold and recounted countless times in the coming days as we reflect on his service to our Empire. So then I will speak briefly - we cannot allow his legacy to suffer. Dellian no longer stands with us to preserve the ideals he sought in our Empire - steadfastness, order, and above all dignity in all affairs. Then it is that we must continue what he began and usher in a renewed era of our New Order. I give my word on the name of Val Dellian that I will redouble myself in that pursuit - for him, for you, for the Empire."

His Serene Highness,
IMPERIAL REGENT MANKO GAUL

ON THE CONFERRING OF NOBLE RANKS | @RobespierreLives @FantasticMsFox @Carol

"It has been the trend that the Galactic Empire is resurging in its strength, that that principles of order are once again being heralded in even the farthest regions of space. But it has been most recent that we have seen a momentum towards prosperity rivaling that of the early days of the New Order. Keenly focused, patriotically supported, the finest minds of our Empire have performed stupendous feats of political, military, cultural, and scientific supremacy over the forces of Rebellion. These deeds have been done in spite of the most radical resistance, spurred on by a continued campaign of terror at the hands of a sinister clique.

Today, it is a distinct honor to recognize those heroes of our Empire, to confer unto them due recognition and reward. As handed down by the late Emperor, the practice of honoring a select few with the title of Baron of the Empire must be continued in this pursuit. But furthermore, let us remember more specifically the grand deeds of those recipients; in that spirit, I see fit to afford the honorific of Imperial Baron with a suitable title of victory, so that history may remember our great with permanence. In that, I decree the following:

Generalissimi Iaxis Solaris is to be named Baron Abregado, with a proper estate as befits his title on his homeworld of Ord Mantell.

Grand Moff Tandi Maxcetus is to be named Baroness Giju, with a proper estate as befits her title on the world Tallaan.

Generalissimi Lira Serenon is to be named Baroness Corellia, with a proper estate as befits her title on her homeworld of Imperial Center.
Grand Admiral Kath Artis to be named Baron Velmor, with a proper estate as befits his title on the world Velmor.

Let none question the service of these individuals, and the countless others that shall be honored in the days to come, nor besmirch their legacies now penned in lasting ink."

His Serene Highness,
IMPERIAL REGENT MANKO GAUL

HOLONET: A Broadcast From Denon

PLEASE OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING PUBLIC NEWS ALERT FOR THE DMZ
ATTENTION IS MANDATORY
PRESENTED BY THE COMPMOR MINISTRY OF MILITARY REPORTING

"Citizens. Soldiers. Comrades."

"In these past months we have taken a great step towards reestablishing order in the Galaxy. From across Imperial Space, the news comes of victory after victory after victory. The Rebels and their criminal allies have been pushed back on all fronts. From the distant stars of the Hydian Way to our neighbors in Oversector 20, Imperial Starships and Army soldiers have driven the Rebel scum from their holes and liberated planets from their scurrilous grasp. The shipyards of Gyndine once more fly the Imperial Banner, Abregado-Rae once more falls beneath the Imperial Shield, and everywhere the Rebels are in retreat."

"We here in the DMZ, charged by the Empire with defending the path to the Core Words, have not been idle. Under the command of Admiral Vaan, our valiant starfleet has taken the fight to our enemies once more. Vaan, one of our most skilled commanders, has annihilated two Rebel detachments in the systems of Altier and Iktotch. These worlds and their citizens are now under the protection of the DMZ."

"The Rebels, of course, were not idle while we swept them from the stars. The so-called Admiral Voon Massa, whom we have all come to know as one of the most cunning and devious of the Rebel's Criminal Commanders, attempted to lure our valiant forces into an ambush. A well-known Rebel tactic. Vaan brilliantly avoided being caught and inflicted massive damage to the Rebel forces under Massa's command."

"Our Army has now completed the liberation of Altier and Iktotch. On my orders, forward bases are being established to defend against any Rebel reprisals, and COMPMOR agents are being deployed to integrate these worlds into the structure of the DMZ. I salute the bravery of our soldiers who go forth to bring order and security to these worlds."

"While we celebrate these victories however, we cannot allow ourselves to rest upon our laurels. The Rebellion remains a threat to our way of life. Chaos and disorder rile beyond our borders. While we gather strength to drive the Rebellion back further and further, we must look inwards to ensure we are prepared for the struggle ahead. We must root out any remaining elements that threaten to divide us. We must secure our economic strength that our full fury may be turned against the Rebellion. We must gird our hearts in preparation for Total War."

"I will be personally overseeing the steps needed to prepare the DMZ for the coming days. I thank you for your trust placed in me and my compatriots. We shall not fail you, nor the Empire. Let all those who would doubt our devotion gaze upon the wrecks of Rebel starships. Let all those who would stand against us weep in despair!"

"Long Live the New Order! Long Live the Empire! Denon Stands!"

THIS SPEECH BY GRAND GENERAL VONSOL PRESENTED BY THE COMPMOR MINISTRY OF MILITARY REPORTING
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION

Rear Admiral Zhu Koxinga was in his quarters on the Uueg Tching, so much had happened, both in the galaxy and to him. One, the rebel offensives had been repulsed. Grand Admiral Solaris and Grand Moff Maxcetus had pushed back Ackbar, while he and Grand Admiral Serenon had secured Gyndine from the Rebels. Already new Imperial craft were being assembled in its yards, the material for them being scavenged from both rebel ships being built in the dockyards, and from the scrap of the rebel fleet that stood against them.

But for Zhu, he was alive, and that was important. Corellia had not claimed him like Corliss and instead he lived and even saw victory. All his training had paid off, and so did the training program Serenon had pushed for. It was a masterstroke of smartness to get the greenhorns ready for combat, and it worked. Now, he had members of Oversector Four local sector moffs and members of the Imperial Senate wishing to be his patrons. His star was rising, and he would bring honor to his family.

Of Course, he wasn't egotisitcal enough to admit he did it himself. None of this would have been possible without his superior, Grand Admiral Serenon. Zhu figured she, Pellaeon, Solaris and Artis were masters of war. He was still mixed on Poggers and Lanin had shown a recklessness if the reports he heard from Oversector Twenty were correct. But Zhu knew, even if it was a bit politically reckless, and aware of Regent Gaul's beliefs about those of the fairer sex, but ... Zhu was a mommy's boy. His mother had kept him despite the dishonor of his birth and his father's species. Even now his a bit more black eyes being the only thing anyone, outside of genetic checks, would betray his Evereni heritage. He always did he hated his eyes.

And he had gone off on a tangeant, where was he, oh right, Serenon. He too would believe that his superior deserved to become Supreme Commander of the Imperial Forces. She led operations with tactical and strategic vision and the only other contenter, Solaris, was honestly more needed to hold Oversector Twenty and to gut Ackbar. For Serenon, she had impressed Zhu and he felt he owed her for his rising status, as well as everything else.

Regardless, things were looking up for Zhu and for the Empire as a whole. He could only hope it stayed that way.

A Scene from The Bunker

"He can't keep getting away with this!"

The conference room in Command Bunker Alpha-007 was becoming a familiar locale for the officers of the DMZ. Besides the weekly all-hands meetings, the bi-weekly military readiness conferences, and the standard briefings, Grand General Vonsol occasionally called emergency conferences in the subterranean chambers when events required his personal attention. One such occasion was now.

As offensive operations along the Corellian Run wound down, and the fleet under Admiral Vaan withdrew for repair, the DMZ was once again forced to confront its nemesis. Every officer on Denon and beyond knew him. His name was spoken as a curse. His followers were decried as pirates and thieves. His image was used as a dartboard in every military bar from Loronar to Allanteen.

Voon Massa.

"Another offensive halted because of Massa and his damnable fleet." High General Thraven clenched his fist in indignant rage, looking around the table at the assembled officers, "First Majoor, then Chardaan, now Milagro! How can we allow this? He can't keep-"

"'-He can't keep getting away with this!'" interrupted a half-dozen other officers in practiced unison. Soft chuckles echoed through the room as Thraven turned red, slumping back in his chair and pouting like a scolded child. It was a common refrain, familiar indeed to anyone who spent too much time around Vonsol's second-in-command. Grand General Vonsol disliked Voon Massa. High General Thraven hated him.

"Enough of that." Vonsol pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. From his place at the head of the conference table he surveyed his assembled staff. He couldn't fault their loyalty, or their morale. He did, occasionally, doubt their professionalism. "I was supposed to leave for Altier to oversee the pacification campaign two hours ago. I would prefer not to spend more time bickering when I could be at the front." Not that it was much of a front. Altier and Iktotch had been secured from orbit, and by the time he arrived any surface resistance would have been swept aside by landing forces from the 13th Sector Army.

A subdued chorus of 'Yes, Sir' came from around the table as Vonsol stood from his chair and began to pace. He had hoped to take part in the routing of the Rebels from the surface, but alas, security measures meant that Vonsol had been forced to hold himself back from joining the offensive. Running a state dedicated to war gave less opportunities for military glory than one might think.

"Basic reports from all of you. Status of our forces on the front and at home. Actions to be taken in the next standard cycle. What did we accomplish? What did we learn? I'll expect full summaries when I return, of course." He pointed to one of the other black-uniformed officers, "General Argoh, status of COMPMOR?"

"We're as well off as we can be, Sir." Argoh replied, pulling several papers from his files, "Our internal security apparatus has matured to the level where we're confident in being able to detect and neutralize Rebel infiltration attempts." He frowned, shuffling the reports in his hands, "External intelligence is another matter entirely. As shown by the action over Milagro, we cannot yet say that our intelligence gathering is anything but rudimentary. We had only the barest scraps of information with regards to Rebel forces, and Massa was able to achieve tactical surprise. He nearly turned our offensive into a trap for Admiral Vaan."

Voinsol nodded, "Agreed. Consider improving COMPMOR's external capabilities your highest priority. Thraven, how fares the army?"

General Thraven sat bolt upright, his earlier tantrum forgotten. "Morale and readiness remain at acceptable levels. Above acceptable, even. The losses at Atzerri and Chardaan were painful, but we've recovered materially and the core of our forces remains intact. The pacification campaigns on Altier and Iktotch will be good testing grounds for our newest recruits. You can always count on the 13th, Grand General."

"I'm aware, General. Start putting together a roster of units we can spare to detach from our main forces. We'll discuss more upon my return, but I've been pondering how we might be able to… assist our comrades in the Empire with their morale issues." Vonsol chuckled, "And let the commanders know I'm grateful for their continued support."

"Yes, Sir."

This continued for several more minutes; Vonsol pacing the room, his subordinates speaking and the Grand General listening. The Economy? Acceptable. Barely keeping afloat, but acceptable. The civilians? Morale was stable. COMPMOR had been busy ensuring propaganda spread smoothly throughout the populace and any overt acts of dissent were crushed quickly and quietly. The Navy? Begging for more Capital Class ships.

Vonsol frowned at this. It was common refrain from his naval officers that unless they could build a dozen Victory IIs for every lost Imperial-Class, the DMZ would run out of firepower. Loronar and Allanteen were fine shipyards, but they lacked the scale needed to produce larger Imperial vessels. Kravic was an Army man, but even he knew that they had a point. The DMZ could hardly fight MC80s with ships designed during the frakking Clone Wars.

"Noted, Captain Mesket." Vonsol sighed, wincing internally. He had few solutions for the poor bastard. The best bet was probably going to the Regents - Regent, singular, he corrected himself - with hat in hand. If only Gyndine hadn't been taken earlier that month by Serenon. The DMZ might have been able to push north and take the shipyards… Alas. War was full of missed opportunities.

"I'll see what I can do. The Regent is not a generous man. At least, not to me." He smirked, "Not anymore. But I will see what I can do." The Captain nodded stiffly, and Vonsol added, almost as an afterthought. "If it doesn't work out, we can always proceed with Vaan's.. concept."

The Captain's face soured at that, "I've read the initial studies for Project Despot, sir. I'm not sure I like it. Nevertheless, if it works it'll be a welcome addition. If it works."

"Good. If that's all, we can call this meeting adjourn-" Vonsol was interrupted as the doors to the conference room slid open. A junior aide, face flushed with the effort of running down a dozen flights of stairs and through several security checkpoints. He slid to a halt as a dozen pairs of eyes settled on him. He flashed into a quick and desperate salute as he faced the Grand General.

"Sirs. Apologies for interrupting. I have a priority message from Admiral Vaan for the Grand General."

Vonsol's eyes narrowed. "Oh for… Voon's not back, is he?"

"N-no, Sir. It's Iktotch. Apparently the surface has surrendered with no resistance. Initial landings are underway and the… elders of the locals wish to communicate with the Admiral and you, sir."

"Me? Asking for parley, are they?"

"I don't know, sir. I just know they asked for both of you."

Kravic raised an eyebrow at this. He heard whispers from around the table. What did he know about the Iktotchi people? Not much, he had to admit, though he knew they were obsessed with some kind of Spiritualist nonsense. Some called them 'prophets'. What tripe. The moon they called home was a harsh place, wracked by storms… that was about it. He shrugged, ending the whispers with a wave of his hand.

"Very well. Prepare my shuttle for departure to the Falling Star. I'll call Vaan from there and we'll decide what to do about this… request." He gave a brief, calming smile to his officers. "Keep the lights on while I'm gone, men, and keep heart. This is the first in a series of victories for Denon. Massa can't resist us forever."

Vonsol grabbed his jacket from his chair and strutted out of the room, the very picture of Imperial confidence. He called over his shoulder as the door closed behind him.

"The future's looking bright. I'm sure of it."

MINI: Come Forth from the Void New
Come Forth from the Void

It had been many years of tireless work, almost a torment if not a lingering shadow over him. An endless amount of data was gathered, leading to little progress. Billions of credits were spent in its name, most who knew thinking it a vanity project based on fantasy, perhaps even an elaborate scheme of immense corruption to bring wealth few had acquired onto one being.

But to him, it was real, it was everything. His life's work, his purpose in this existence was for this one thing he desired to see done. There was a brief period of abandonment, as more immediate matters took precedence which led to decay and an outright pause on work without his insight and resources. That time had passed, as he was now once again fully immersed into his desire. Fresh faces, minds and credits were poured into it, a relentless pursuit some would say was dangerously obsessive.

Failure after failure came, as the mechanisms were long decayed or destroyed. What few that survived were foreign and barely comprehensible, as many observers and experts drew blank on how it worked, or was even still functional. Very few were replaced with modern machinery, deciphered from intact texts detailing their specifications hoping to resurrect by chance the device. The ancient ones who guarded them, lost to how they truly were in their glory days, spoke of ruin and annihilation to any who made them whole again for the powers they held could not be contained if left unchecked.

These prophets and storytellers were heard by all who approached them, but not taken seriously by most, discarded as myths and local political machinations to deter competitors to their titles and ranks within their society. Nevertheless work continued, as hours turned into days and days into weeks with no apparent luck on the horizon. The one known intact location, unlike the others which were no longer of use, gathered more and more interest with hopes of somehow unlocking its powers, as even the one who oversees it was personally on site working tirelessly to decipher its secrets.

One day, it all changed. Without any input of their own, the device came to life. An almost blinding light emanated from it before fading into a mellow but white glow. Everyone present was shocked if not terrified of what had transpired, as all dared not approach it for fear of some unknown harm put against them attempting to interact in any way. But he, forever vigilant and determined to finally use the device, moved forward against the wishes of his subordinates who called for security and an immediate quarantine of the area in the event of any threats from within it.

As he stood mere feet from the device, still glowing yet beginning to fate slightly, something could for the first time be seen exiting it from the other side, seven humanoid figures seen appearing when only a moment before there were none. A blue-skinned human-like figure in full battle dress, flanked by very familiar yet different Imperial Stormtroopers came forth from the light, putting their attention immediately upon the one who now stood before them.

A soft, very proper and gentlemen-like voice began to speak with a slight smile towards the one who was across from him, his red eyes feeling like they were peering into his very soul.

"Grand Admiral Baobab. It is an honor..."

MINI: The Giant Wakes New

The Giant Wakes

The great Hutt Ruling Council had debated for hours on end, many bickering on how to proceed as their unrelenting greed for wealth, flesh and most important of all power was once again under threat of being taken from them. A great offense this was as no one dared violate their territory or business for centuries if not thousands of years. No more was this the case, the Imperial splinter state to their south could in their eyes not be reasoned with through bribery, intimidation or even long-tested acts of violence. The arguments and disagreements festered for days more, until the consensus was made, although with some hesitation as they knew it would alter all in their goals of not only accumulating wealth but even the possibility of their self-preservation, either from themselves or their enemy.

The demand to return the true glory of the clans was the decree, championed by some who yearned for combat like the Shell Clan, both in the name of supposed stability but also as a way to create a new status quo which they could both enforce and expand upon while the galaxy continued to burn with a white-hot intensity. The long-held policy of kajidic, or use of criminal enterprises and commerce instead of war to achieve the goals of the Hutts was to be cast aside for this occasion, knowing what they have tried has failed. Coordination and cooperation, although not particularly strong as is the nature of the Hutts to be highly narcissistic, would be tested to its very limits for the first time since the Tionese War and Hutt Cataclysm.

This decision would be seen by all who bordered Hutt Space, as what was once a mutual agreement to stand idle and bow to the tax and toll of the Hutts so they may experience "independence" was no longer the case. For the first time since the war with Xim the Despot tens of thousands of years ago fleets of ships and armies of those who serve the Hutts either as slaves, indebted species or paid mercenaries began to quickly flood outwards in almost all directions with the intent of conquest. Systems were seized in quick order as their roots were already to the very core allowing an almost seamless process of annexation. Many were once long ago a part of the Hutt Empire, now returning to their rightful owner within Hutt Space.

News spread quickly of this sudden and violent shift in the region, with the New Republic transferring what resources were available from Bothawui to ensure their systems would be secured in the west and north. The Hutts had, through their ancient ties to the native Weequay species, organized their contacts through the local Hutt Cartels and Weequay loyalists who conducted an insurrection on the system of Sriluur, ejecting the New Republic from the system which soon after declared their allegiance and servitude to the Hutt Ruling Council. Formal diplomatic channels were formulated not long after the Sriluur Insurrection as it became to be known in the New Republic, with an agreement of ceasefire and recognition of borders between the two states, knowing that attempting to wage war with the Empire, Imperial Warlords and Hutts would be an impossible task.

But the Hutts true aim, and reasoning for even breaking their ancient pact was to their south, based out of Rothana. Charging down the Triellus Trade Route, the Hutts planted their full authority, extending down to the Gamorr system, which was now the border between Hutt Space and the Tolonda Union. From there, revenge was being formulated as mercenary fighter and bomber wings alongside what small frigates were available prepared to jump from Gamorr, Syvris and Barab to the recently conquered Tolondan system of Shola where Rear Admiral Zelta Kul was currently stationed.

While the Tolondans had been on alert for piracy coming from Hutt Space, their readiness was heightened due to indicators from their long-range scanners picking up large spikes in traffic and communications. The fleet in orbit of Shola was not prepared for an attack by conventional forces, instead thinking some form of larger than normal raiding or harassing party was going to enter their space seeking vulnerable transports full of valuables which was a frequent occurrence. Taking a page from the New Republic, the Hutts entered the Shola system from as many hyperlane routes open to them as possible, comprising a mostly snubfighter and corvette composition to ensure agility and flexibility. Alerts rang across Rear Admiral Kul's command, as fighters scrambled to meet this new and sudden threat with both sides engaging one another soon after.

Hutt Z-95 Headhunters, old yet still deadly fighters

Fire raged through the void above Shola as TIE Fighters and TIE Interceptors clashed with a hodgepodge of craft such as the Z-95 Headhunter, Y-Wing, V-Wing and highly modified Cloakshape fighters the Hutts could muster for deployment showing a painfully clear fact standardization was absent. Although they had a very diversified and aging inventory, the Hutt Ruling Council gave very stern and straightforward orders which those sent on this mission could not fail to do or else not bother coming back leading to determined attackers. Rear Admiral Kul orchestrated a formidable defense led by her Praetor II-class Battlecruiser Maniple which clearly outclassed anything the Hutts could field, as the first wave of Hutt craft were wiped out but did sustain damage across her command. The second wave though had just enough of a window, with Kul's fighters being rotated out for fresh reserves as Y-Wing and V-Wings began to target any isolated capital ships with particular focus upon a Venator-class that not long soon after had its primary shields disabled and its bridge destroyed leading to a chain reaction culminating to a complete loss.
[-1 Venator to Tolonda Union]

Rear Admiral Kul wasted no time to enact her own form of revenge by annihilating the remaining Hutt forces present around Shola with no survivors, knowing they were going to perish either way. The smoldering ruins above the planet still raged, but a new reality was set upon the Tolonda Union, one of war which they feared could come as their ideology and vision collided with the ancient and feared one held by the Hutts. An official message only hours after this brazen and undeclared attack was relayed from Nal Hutta, sent to Rothana and High Moff Randell Kursk, cementing a new destructive era in the eastern galaxy.

HUTT RULING COUNCIL

HIGH MOFF RANDELL KURSK (@MajorKO)

From the Excellencies of the Hutt Ruling Council, all-powerful and encompassing throughout the galaxy as they and their ancestors have been for millennia. I speak on their exalted behalf to you, low-life human scum - disobedient servant of the Galactic Empire. Your transgressions upon our most serene of the kajidic have gone beyond any reasoning which you have repeatedly violated. The balance has been kept solely through the power and wealth of the Hutt Clans for thousands of years, many such as the dishonorable and reprehensible Xim the Despot kneeled to our superiority when challenged. You are even to him an embarrassment and one which will be cast into irrelevance if not purged from all memory.

Although our vengeance is absolute and will unbreakable, we are merciful to those who repent for their errors. We demand the arrest and transfer to Hutt custody of one Zelta Kul for an extensive list of irredeemable crimes as unconditional. Her arrogance and hubris must be punished severely for my masters do not take kindly to such filth. Our second condition is the revocation of all laws and regulations regarding the property of flesh or slavery as you call it, for it is a vital and well-respected trade that has been the lifeblood of all economies, including yours even if you fail to admit such realities. Finally, a relaxing of oppressive laws which hinder the overall commerce of Hutt trade. Your servants have been a constant annoyance in this regard, which has led to a loss of profits which my masters will no longer stand for.

If these conditions are met, perhaps a peace accord can be arranged, and prosperity for all can resume. If not, you will suffer, then be crushed under the might of the Hutts and become a footnote in our glorious and everlasting history.

Choose wisely.

Rothana, Tolonda Union
POV: High Moff Kursk
6 ABY

It had finally happened.

War has started between the Tolonda Union and the Hutts.

Granted, this did not surprise him at all. He knew they were constantly prodding the beast with their internal efforts and playing a good part in cutting off many sources of power and wealth from the Hutts. The steady and successful pruning of their influence from entire systems and the scout ships and probes they sent north only further cemented that. He knew that sooner or later, something would happen.

The calling of the Hutt Ruling Council was the indicator that it was coming.

And now, the truth was evident. The Hutts were marching to war. Something that was one of the lesser possibilities, but one that had nonetheless been taken into account.

He looked over the reports laid out on the datapads before him. The Hutts had swept away the pretenses of nominal independence, fully assuming control over numerous systems surrounding Hutt space. Sriluur especially was notable as the New Republic was forced to retreat in the face of the Hutt-sponsored uprisings there, and then having to sign a ceasefire.

He didn't blame them honestly. They were already fighting against the Galactic Empire who had begun to surge back and reclaim systems, alongside the smattering of warlords either actively fighting the New Republic or poised to be a dangerous threat. They were busy, and they didn't need an established threat like the Hutts to be added onto it.

And so that left the Hutts to focus southwards, on Tolonda itself. Their forces rushed to Shola, comprised not of capital ships but numerous fighters and lighter vessels. And while warned and ready, a larger raiding force had been expected, not the conventional war fleet that jumped into the system.

Rear Admiral Kul had a massive fight to handle there, a bloody one as the Hutts mimicked some of the fearsome tactics of the Rebels and now New Republic, sending swarms of Clone-Wars era fighters and bombers at them. And while certainly old and outdated, these craft were modified well and made for war. Standardization was low and a key helping factor here, but a dangerous threat nonetheless.

One that the Rear Admiral had successfully stomped. One of the Venators was lost, but the Hutt forces were shown no mercy and successfully crushed- firming up his belief in the Rear Admiral. She might've overstepped with her prison project and imprisoning potential suspects and their families, but this showed that she was still very much a commander capable of fighting the good fight when combined with her efforts clearing Hutt influence from Gaulus and Geonosis.

Now the High Moff paused, reaching to the side. He frowned then as he glanced at his hand, noticing the very slight shaking. After a mummer about old age creeping up, he gripped the cannister of cafe he had brought, the contents within still warm.

Taking a drink from it and letting the energizing caffiene seep in, he focused on the last topic of this chain of events, and the one that demanded his attention.

The Hutt demands.

Upon reading them he had laughed at the absurdity of it all, this amusement mixing with righteous anger at the slugs daring to try and impose these terms.

At that point he had taken a step back to cool off. He needed to think things through rationally, and all the recent propaganda efforts admittedly were showing their effect.

And so, after taking some time to regather his thoughts, cool down, and think, he now looked back at the demands from a more logical prespective. And like before, he found that they were unacceptable.

He was not handing over the Rear Admiral, plain and simple. While she had made a decent amount of enemies and made many others wary, both outside and within the Tolondan Union, she was still a valuable and loyal officer. And even if she were to give it up, what message would that give to the many other former-Imperials within his service? Then there was the request to repeal the acts and laws regarding slavery, which was another hard no. Ignoring his own distaste for the practice, by now many among both his administration and among the populace had taken up the rallying cry of anti-slavery, and even with some cases of hypocrisy of that still existing it was something substantial of the Tolondan ideology and goals. Something which giving up now would crack and shake the foundations of the Tolondan Union that he had spent the last couple of years building up.

Enacting either, let alone both, of the demands would lead to nothing good for him and his people. Corruption would seep back in, and possibly defections or even a coup may happen. He certainly knew that Kul wouldn't like either case, and another interesting officer that's come to the fore as of late would no doubt react very negatively to that too.

And so, he knew that the path before them was laid.

"People of the Tolonda Union!"

"For two years, we have striven to better our slice of the galaxy! To provide order and prosperity, while riding our territory of the influence of the criminal syndicates that have for so long abused and tormented these systems! It has been a long journey, and there is still much to do, but I have the utmost confidence that we can do it!"

"However, those who are behind this criminal corruption, those who wish to keep their hooks sunk into our worlds and twist us, have decided that now that actual progress has been made they cannot sit idly. They have thrown off the thin veil of allowing 'independence' to those systems utterly hooked under them, and have struck out! Well over a dozen systems have had the thin sovereignty they had be overruled as they're swept under these cruel rulers- with mercenary armies and indebt pirate fleets marching outwards to take these systems as long dug-in roots ensure that they could do nothing but submit! Even systems under the New Republic have not been left alone, with the system of Srilurr subverted by Hutt-supported criminals eager to gain the scraps that their Hutt Overlords will toss to them! And more may follow in the future, as the Hutt's reach extends deep into what is now New Republic space- their influence stabbed in as the New Republic is forced to maintain peace as they deal with other threats."

"And now they have turned to us, this bastion of progress in the Galactic Southeast. They seek to smother us in the crib, to push down the hopes for a better future in order. They seek to take our people, allow their supported gangs and puppets to run freely once more and exploit these planets as they have for millenia. They have even made demands as of such, demanding that we allow back the practice of slavery and the return of their operations such as Spice dealing! Calling the practice of slavery in particular a "vital and well-respected trade", they seek to continue trampling on you! On all of you as they cruelly enact their fantasies, corrupt you with greedy incentives and addictive drugs, and put down everyone to enrich themselves and keep everyone downtrodden! These Hutts who have stood for a long time, who are mustering armies of thugs, think that they stand superior to all of us. That their will cannot be denied."

"We have told them no."

"As for 48 hours ago, an attempt by a Hutt force to take the Planet Shola in the Magatesso System was destroyed! No survivors of the large force remain, and through the efforts of our stalwart defenders and the sacrifice of those lost, we held firm!"

"We have defied the Hutts, and bloodied them for their effort!"

"The Hutts wish for us to capitulate, to make the people of these planets victims and coerced accomplices of suppression and corruption once more. To lord over us as criminal lords."

"They will be met by the might and valor of the Tolonda Union! From the fields of Ukio to the mountains of Gaulus! We will not be denied our chance of prosperity and livelihood free of them! We shall show them that their time as wicked criminal exploiters and rulers will not continue!"

"WE ARE THE TOLONDA UNION! AND WE WILL STAND!"

This speech, launched by High Moff Kursk, broadcasts all throughout Tolondan space- stretching out into the nearby systems either under the New Republic or recently taken over by the Hutts... soon spreading out even further across the known Galaxy with varying effectiveness and reach. Today, the Galaxy would know that the Tolonda Union will not back down in the face of the Hutt menace.

HUTT RULING COUNCIL ( @Julius )

To the members of the Hutt Ruling Council.

We of the Tolonda Union refuse your demands. We will not allow you to crush our rising future. And while our own past efforts involving your direct space have all either been the result of initial misunderstandings or response to your own subversive efforts to use your proxy gangs and mercenaries to cause havoc, we see now that you will not let us be.

As such, with the Hutt Ruling Council decide to continue on this path, to try and take our systems and subvert our society, we have no choice but to fight back.

Let it be known that unless the Hutt Ruling Council decides to leave the Tolonda Union be, on this day a state of war shall exist between the Tolonda Union and the Hutt Clans that have decided to fight against us.

You have been warned.

Undefined deck of the Executor-class Star Dreadnought, Shadowsun
Approximately 1450 PM.

Another good day's work, the chains rattling, the screams of pain, the carefully laid out instruments - used one at a time, hour after hour, prolonging the suffering, his assistants dedicated to their craft. Blood on his apron, his gloves, his face. This record would make a delightful video, although the pleasure of doing the act was not translated well via holodrama. He removed his apron, meticulously washed his hands, his face. An important ritual for him - symbolizing his transformation from butcher to Grand Admiral. A ritual that this afternoon was interrupted.

"Grand Admiral… Sir." He recognized the voice, it was lieutenant Boras.

"What. Do. You. Want?" The Grand Admiral responded coldly.

The lieutenant gulped. The Grand Admiral was even more brusque than usual. "His Highness the Regent Manko Gaul has sent a transmission that I believe you will find quite intriguing."

Solaris looked at him with a blank expression before sighing. "Very well," he turned to his assistants, "You two, return the prisoner to his cell."
Boras mused if the bloody remains of the prisoner was actually alive. He had heard of Solaris' "tendencies" before he got transferred to his direct command, but he had yet to see it first-hand. He wondered if Admiral Vane had seen the horrors his mentor brought upon others.

Solaris' turned towards Boras, now resembling a Grand Admiral. "So, show me the transmission." As he saw it he scoffed. "Another title to add to the pile. I suppose I should be honoured. To think that the son of impoverished Ord Mantell factory workers would one day become a noble." He spat, "It's all crap anyway. Gaul may run his little nobility show, but truth is, he would rather die than be in the same room as me for a prolonged period. Such is the fate of us who are not of noble breed. He does do good work in the Empire however, and more importantly keeps the star destroyers coming."

"I would rather die too, but here I am." Boras thought to himself as Solaris continued. "Speaking of the regent, I need to send him a transmission. Have my bridge holoprojector ready the moment I arrive there."

"Yes sir." Boras said as they left the gloomy bowels of the Shadowsun, the stench from the enrichment chamber evoking feelings of dread, depravity and deep unpleasantness that was rooted within the Grand Admiral.

To: Imperial Regent Manko Gaul
@Noco

Greetings Regent Gaul.

I will first offer my condolences in regards to the late Regent Dellian, and my sincere wish that the Empire will see fewer of these unfortunate deaths in the coming years.

Secondly I wish to thank you for the esteemed honour of my ennobling at your hand, and the unwavering commitment to the defence of the Empire.

As for more important matters I will offer my direct critique of Grand Admiral Lanin's conduct during Operation Thunderstruck, even if you undoubtedly have seen the reports already. His inability to restrain himself when the Rebels lure him into a trap is beyond reasoning and this alone should be subject to the most severe of reprimands.

His lack of operational awareness also leave much to be desired as his aforementioned lack of restraint threw a wrench in the finely tuned machine that was the combined starfleet during the operaiton, and led, as we could see, to disaster as the Rebels destroyed a number of vessels of the Crimson Command. His failings during this campaign, while overall successful in liberating the Southern Core worlds, led to the deaths of many good men, and at numerous times threatened to jeopardize the overall operation.

While I will not levy judgement on what is to be done in regards to Grand Admiral Lanin, as that is for the Imperial High Command to decide in earnest, I will say this: His failings as a commander in charge of the Crimson Command should not be allowed to jeopardize military operations in a sector so prone to fighting as Oversector 20.

LONG LIVE THE NEW ORDER

Business as Usual

"-if you will turn to page 373 of the briefing, you will see that we have received confirmation that Operation Alpha Alpha Rho Phi is proceeding as scheduled. Agent Martyr has made their mandated check-in and confirmed that we are ready to move to Phase Three of the operation pending the Director's approval."

Flicking through the pages on the screen in front of them, Renik moved to the relevant page and scanned it over. As required, the information provided was brief and succinct, conveying only the most necessary details and excluding all the rest. Some agents liked to take the opportunity to make every report a novel, Agent Martyr blessedly was not cursed with such a deficiency.

"What assets are required for its completion?" Renik asked, flicking a glance over at one of their subordinates. "Can Agent Martyr carry out Phase Three on their own?"

"They have requested a supporting operation to provide cover for their actions. If you will move to page 472, you will see that they have specifically asked for a raid on a warehouse in the Medlan City's industrial district. We would be more than capable of directing local law enforcement to carry that out."

They flicked again, finding the relevant page in a mere few moments, before offering no indication whatsoever that they had either heard or acknowledged the words of the subordinate that had just spoken. Instead, they simply moved on and asked, "and what are the risk factors?"

"Analysts estimate a 79% likelihood that the cover story will be accepted by all parties."

"Rebel infighting?"

"Instigated by a dispute over a woman, yes. There is a further 19% likelihood that parties involved will dispute the presented account and blame the incident on another individual, identified here as a local crime lord by the name of "Big Ber." The remaining two percent reflects the potential for our involvement to be discovered however steps have already been taken to present the local Moff as the instigator in case of such an eventuality."

"And the potential for third party casualties?"

"Only the target's family."

It took less than a moment for Renik to apply their thumb to the screen and give their approval for the operation.

"Then the matter is settled. Make sure to monitor local news sources as well, I do not want a repeat of the Ord Trasi Incident."

"We'll make sure journalists not on the approved list are monitored during the event."

"Good. You're all dismissed. Long live the Empire."

MINI: A Senate Imperialized New

A Senate Imperialized

Though far flung from the excess of the Republic Era, the Imperial Senate was nonetheless an impressive gathering of galactic notables. Throughout the expansive Senate Hall, repulsorpods lined the walls, these less numerous, but larger than those enjoyed by the Senate prior to the New Order. Rather than a single delegate, these hovering daises more often housed a senator and his cadre of attendants and sycophants, rendering meetings surprisingly lively with the sounds of discussion.

From his seat on the Central Podium, once called the Chancellor's Podium in years past, Manko Gaul could watch them all. To his left he spied the Shawken delegation, headed by his cousin of the Aquin branch of the family. And nearabouts was Lord Pepeo Poggers, once the acting director of the Imperial Security Bureau before it was formally subsumed by the ever-expanding aegis of Imperial Intelligence. For his role, Lord Poggers was well-rewarded and maintained high honors within the Imperial Senate. Somewhere too was Lord Vandron, the master of COMPNOR and leading figure on the Control Commission for the New Order.

And then there were others, those not typically in attendance; these were special delegates, personally invited by the Imperial Regent. Their presence was not left unnoticed by the senators, and there was a certain energy that pervaded the chamber.

"Are you ready, Your Highness?"

Ars Dangor was undeniably the cockroach of the New Order. He had risen alongside Palpatine and maintained a ruthless fiefdom in the inner circle of Imperial power brokerage. With the Emperor gone, Dangor understood that he needed a new patron and came in alignment with Imperial Regents Gaul and Dellian. He served as a legitimizer of their seizure of power and was rewarded with continued relevance in the highest echelons of power. As Superior Secretary, he had taken a pre-eminent role in the Imperial Senate, more or less emulating the duties once held by Grand Vizier Sate Pestage. And today would simply be another step towards his political survival.

Manko Gaul merely nodded as Superior Secretary Dangor spoke, his voice amplified across the Senate Hall.

"Honored Senators - today we are joined by His Highness, the Imperial Regent. It is by his authority that we declare this Special Session of the Imperial Senate."

At that, Manko Gaul stood and ascended the highest step of the podium with Ars Dangor at his side. With a single outreached hand, Gaul invoked the chamber.

"Great Men of this Empire. In a Galaxy of trillions, you few stand bold and brave enough to wield the engines of central power. Look about this Senate Hall and see the finest minds, the sharpest wits, and the wisest counsel one can seek. It is for you, and the Empire you serve, that this Senate has been restored. But it is for an even grander purpose that I call you here on this day in particular - today we discuss the matter of Imperial succession."

The Imperial Senate was overtaken with speaking, gasps and murmurs, the undeniable chatter of learned dilettantes. Some of the surprise was feigned, but enough was genuine to spark a moment of uncontrolled liveliness, silenced only at Gaul's measured intervention.

"It is to you that I present this matter, for only through the ascent of this Senate can this matter be resolved. It is no secret that our late Emperor, Palpatine of the planet Naboo, was taken from us too early, that the Imperial House was not yet in order with a defined succession in place; the lineage of Palpatine is barren. So it is that we must look elsewhere."

The chatter, only just silenced, returned. Succession was a controversial issue of the modern Empire. Open discussion of it, by the Imperial Regent within the Senate chambers nonetheless, was a startling display. Gaul continued, undeterred.

"For your approval, I have generated a definitive shortlist of candidates, their suitability based on sterling service to this Empire, to their noble pedigree, and of course to their conviction in the New Order as established by Emperor Palpatine. As it seemed only right and just, I have purposefully excluded the names most associated with myself, for it would not be right to wield my office and crown myself. Furthermore-"

Juonii interrupts, politely of course, in the manner only an Alaskan Noble can. "Sir Regent, without a doubt you are what we need going forward. Without you, we would have fallen into far worse infighting as traitors and nepotistic warlords fought over the main body of the Empire left to the galaxy. You are the guiding light we need, to beat the rebels and bring down the traitors not unlike Emperor Palpatine before you." He pauses, assessing the room before continuing. "I wish to nominate you for the position of Emperor, for despite your misgivings and humility I see the man who can once again bring order, security, and more to the galaxy like the New Order reborn from the corpse of the Republic before it."

"Your words honor me, my friend. But I must decline your nomination. As Imperial Regent, I must be the steward of the Imperial office, not its claimant."

Standing to speak as Gaul finished, Grand Moff and Baroness Tandi Maxcetus straightened her uniform under the light of the hovercams as she began.

"Regent Gaul your humility does you credit but the galaxy waits for no one. As we speak, planets burn as they are beset by rebel hordes. It would be a betrayal of the Imperial soldiers and sailors fighting to protect the Empire today if the man chosen to lead them was unequal to the task. And of all the possible candidates, only one is truly ready to take the mantle of Emperor. And that man is Manko Gaul."

Turning her eyes from the camera droid to the elevated form of the Regent she continued.

"You have served the Empire ably as Regent and there is no doubt that as Emperor your reign would be one of bringing stability to a galaxy in chaos. You alone of all possible candidates are ready today to receive the responsibility of Emperor."

Manko Gaul allowed Grand Moff Maxcetus' words to linger. Then he spoke deliberately, a new firmness to his voice.

"Your words give me many thoughts, Baroness. In you and Grand Moff Juonii alike, I hear a warming conviction that dares to stir my heart. Fine then. I will accede to your twinned insistences and open the floor for further nominations - does anyone else seek to speak now on this matter? Truly, I leave the floor open if my list is not to be read."

Gaul extended his arms open as if to belabor the point, a feigned and practiced look of almost-exasperation on his face.

A voice sounds from the assembly, as High General Thraven stands. Stiff and official, he speaks with the cadence of military formality. "Let it be known that, if such a nomination is to be made, the Army will have its say. If it pleases the Senate, I would present a statement from Grand General Vonsol."

With the push of a button, the massively magnified image of Grand General Kravic Vonsol appears in the center of the Senate chamber. Dressed in full army fatigues, the image is silent for a moment before speaking.

"My second-in-command, General Thraven, has kept me informed of the ongoing debate. Such a momentous step for the Empire requires input from all corners. The Army and the Denon Military Zone have seen the chaos that resulted in the aftermath of the Maddoxite Coup, and the struggles that have taken place since. In a galaxy gone mad with rebellion, criminality, and cultish insanity, the Empire must remain a bastion of order and security."

"If these goals are to be accomplished, and the vision of Emperor Palpatine is to remain unblemished, then the Empire requires a firm, guiding hand. We cannot allow ourselves to fall into dissolution or disagreement. Only one man has shown the needed skill. The Denon Military Zone stands behind this motion, and supports the Regent taking the Throne. Long live the New Order."

With another press of the button, the image vanishes, and silence reigns once more. It lasted a beat before Gaul broke it at last.

"It is a supreme honor to be commended by the active hands of this Empire - the bureaucracy and military alike. Yet all the support from these bodies must too be joined by the Imperial Senate, for we must honor this reforged body."

At that, Gaul looked abroad, his eyes drifting over the countless faces spanning the Senate Hall. Most were fixed on him, but others darted here and there, perhaps seeking the correct expression, seeking the feeling of the assemblage.

A break in this moment was made by Grand Admiral Mattalo Musscros' repulsorpod lurking forward, full to the brim with Imperial officers who flanked him. The Grand Admiral was acting as representative of the Imperial Navy while his peers were out on active campaign, and as a result spoke for the Navy during this special session.

"Honorable Senators - the Imperial military, and in particular the Imperial Navy has been the backbone and image of strength and unity in this galaxy since the formation of the Galactic Empire. It is most apparent at this very moment, as our fighting men and women conduct operations of liberation from the Rebellion and traitors to the New Order. Our ability to carry out such grand showings of military might since the loss of the Emperor has been solely through the determination of the Imperial Regent to see us achieve victory over our enemies. Others before him, such as Sate Pestage, sought instead to hoard our most valuable assets for the purpose of self-preservation at the expense of us all."

What little noise could be heard from around the room, as the name of the former Grand Vizier had not been mentioned since his ousting a year and a half prior.

"But the Imperial Regent - Manko Gaul, has continued to support the Navy in its darkest moment, and we can prevail under his leadership. But not as our Regent any longer. I ask his body, which holds the authority to do so, to nominate Manko Gaul as Emperor of the Galactic Empire, for he has the total and unconditional support of the Imperial Navy."

Militarist-aligned Senators, especially those of the Navy stand and cheer, chanting Gaul's name in unison. To them, Gaul nodded, a quiet sign of respect, and perhaps approval. He remained silent as another moved to speak.

The repulsorpod of Lord Crueya Vandron, head of COMPNOR and Senator of the occupied Senex Sector lurched forward, those of COMPNOR allegiance or membership going silent as a result.

"As representative of COMPNOR to this noble and just body, I must concur with my peers, as it is a painful admission to know our beloved and benevolent Emperor, Sheev Palpatine, is no longer seated on the throne, murdered by the bastard rebels two years ago."

The silence now spread across the entire structure, as respect, and some would say fear of the late Emperor now took the forefront before Vandron continued.

"As much as we still mourn his passing, we can no longer stand idle regarding the question of Imperial succession. The supposed and able successor in Lord Vader also perished at the hands of the Rebellion. This has, as others have detailed, left a void as the Emperor bore no children and relatives were deceased years ago."

Vandron paused for a moment, appearing to wipe tears from his eyes as emotion had overtaken him in remembrance of Emperor Palpatine.

"It has been shown numerous times by the Imperial Regent of his competency to lead not only the New Order but that of the Galactic Empire through its most turbulent times. If I were to cast a vote to nominate a new Emperor, I would select our Imperial Regent, Manko Gaul."

Vandron returns to his seat, as applause from the COMPNOR section of Senators is loud and persistent, both towards their leader and to the Regent.

As the noise subsided, Ars Dangor, seated beside the Imperial Regent, stood at the Central Podium to give his own statement.

"Honorable Senators of this most serene and just body, many have spoken their minds and feelings on such a heavy yet critical subject for the continuation of the Empire. Our Emperor, Sheev Palpatine, as said by my peers, is no longer at the head of this state and the galaxy. In his absence we have endured much hardship and loss both to the heartless Rebellion that still festers and traitors to the New Order who hide within their own personal fiefdoms of oppression and insurrection against the rightful government seated here on Imperial Center."

Dangor reveals a datapad from beneath the Central Podium, used normally for tallying votes to be enacted as law within the Senate.

"Such hardship can begin to cease today, as we must crown a new Emperor to lead us into a new era of revival, of rebuilding and of glory in remembrance of those who came before us within the New Order. As is my authority within this Imperial Senate to bring forth votes for laws and decrees, I now call on my most honorable peers of this body to bring to a vote a nomination for the seat of the Emperor."

Dangor turns to the Imperial Regent with his hand directed towards him.

"If so, I will vote for Manko Gaul, a most appropriate candidate both of royalty in his blood, and competency during his term as our Imperial Regent to lead us as Emperor."

Even more cheers and applause comes forth, as more and more appear to accept the fact that voting for a new Emperor has a clear choice.

At the apex of the Senate's cheer, Manko Gaul again took command of the podium. He couldn't help but smile, his entire vision filled with the thunderous applause of a compliant Senate.

"You leave me nearly speechless, my compatriots and friends. To this august chamber, I came prepared with a list to forward candidates of my own choosing, men I believed most supreme in wisdom and leadership. But I see now that the Senate, the Army, the Navy, the Bureaucracy, the Galactic Empire - it calls for me to take the crown, to step into that role."

A beat passed before Gaul spoke again.

"Who am I to deny the will of the Empire? I will accept the judgment of this Senate and will stand as sole nominee for the Imperial Throne. Superior Secretary, I defer all authority to you, to call a vote to secure our Empire's future."

Again, Gaul stood aside, allowing Ars Dangor command of the podium. As he sat, his form covered in gray Shawkenese silk accented with an austere sash of dark violet, Manko Gaul composed himself. At long last, he would receive what he deserved. And when he'd stand again, he'd stand as Emperor of the Galactic Empire.

THE IMPERIAL SENATE

To conclude this special session of the Imperial Senate - A final vote tally has been collected and counted; sent to Superior Secretary Ars Dangor for authentication and enactment regarding Decree One-Seven-Seven-Six. With a collection of Eighty-Seven point four percent of all votes selected as "Yes", Decree One-Seven-Seven-Six has been passed.

Imperial Regent Manko Gaul, with the full authority of the Imperial Senate has been elected and appointed as Emperor of the Galactic Empire.

SIDESTORY: The Rise of a Wraith, a Rogue Strikes New

The Rise of a Wraith, a Rogue Strikes

Yag'Dhul.

A planet inhabited by the Given, a race known for their prowess with math and well-renowned for their shipbuilding capabilities, Yag'Dhul had become rather essential for the Imperial cause within Oversector Twenty. A link along the Rimma Trade Route with the Corellian Trade Spine, this vital intersection had hundreds if not thousands of ships coming through its space each day. While close to the front lines, the planet and system had been built up over the last few years, Imperial authorities realized its loss would prove devastating.

With the course of the Galactic Civil War still very much in doubt and the back-and-forth fighting waging in the South, a cocky Corellian approached Admiral Gial Ackbar with a scheme which was hoped would help with its direction. The New Republic also needed an uplifting victory, the vicious fighting lately having impacted morale, though stalwart the Republic held.

High Admiral Druno Vane "the Younger" had moved his squadron into the system a few months prior, on the lookout for movement of Ackbar's heavier forces which was anticipated to occur during Operation Thunderstruck which recently concluded. His forces were primed for anti-capital ship combat and prepared to move forces as soon as the telltale "sensor prints" were detected coming towards the system.

The first signs that the Imperial troops on Yag'Dhul had that something was amiss were several ear shattering explosions as reserve Tibanna Gas tanks exploded, quickly followed by several fuel refineries. Two Lambda-class shuttles would shoot up from the ground, quickly followed by several YT-class freighters as confusion and alarms sounded across Imperial bases.

Combat patrols quickly angled in to try and intercept the shuttles, manned by elite members of the newly formed Wraith Squadron, specialist commandos, and pilots handpicked by none other than recently promoted General Wedge Antilles and under the command of Lieutenant Judder Page. This was the first test of the unit and its greater parent, who made their presence known when three squadrons of newly deployed T-65AC4 X-wings and E-Wings along with several B-Wings jumped into the system.

While Rogue and Corsair Squadrons (the latter composed of Corellians) supported Wraith's retreat, Gauntlet and Talon squadron's mix of X-Wings and B-Wings made several runs on the shipyards, aiming for construction facilities and causing as much havoc as possible. General Antilles, leader of countless raids of this nature before the birth of the New Republic couldn't help but smile as his newly expanded Rogue Wing lashed out at Imperial forces, allowing Wraith Squadron to jump away with minimal losses.

This would certainly be the most effective raid by the New Republic within the coming days and weeks but soon their squadrons and light ships would pick up raiding all across the eastern and southern flanks of the Oversector Twenty. Was this a distraction? Or perhaps Wedge and Ackbar had more to come from this direction…

Actors on the stage of the Galaxy

Letting lose a steady sigh, Grand Moff and now Baroness Tandi Maxcetus swirled a glass of some local vintage as actors below on the stage continued their rendition of a local classic. The name had been forgotten nearly as soon as she had heard it, her mind already occupied by the heady rush of the success of Operation Thunderstruck.

Solaris and Shadow Squadron had delivered a staggering blow to the Rebellion forces in the west of Oversector 20, liberating 8 planets in a handful of months. In the privacy of her own viewing box, she let slip a tight smile at the thought before sipping at her drink. It was not the end of the efforts needed to liberate the Oversector, but it proved it could be done. The doubt that had haunted her from the start of her assignment to the sector was slowly being banished to the farthest reaches of her mind, subtly accompanied by a warmth across her body.

Glancing at the drink the newly titled Baroness let slip a chuckle. Her doctor had ordered a halt to stimulant prescription in the aftermath of the successful battles, and in a fit of pique, she had accepted his decision. No longer needing to concern herself with the interactions between medical treatment and the drink in her hand, it was simpler to indulge. And with the reports from II indicating a shift in Rebel's condition, she had pounced on the chance to take well-deserved time to herself.

So on the surface of Fondor enjoying the work of one of its oldest and most prestigious theatres, thoughts of budgets and troop movements were cast aside. In their place thoughts of wines and recreation had appeared. She was a Baroness of the Empire, this was her right. She had fought to the point of exhaustion over the last 2 years at the side of Solaris to earn that right. That Yag'Dhul still stood and Abregado-Rae fell was her achievement. The war of fleets and soldiers that Solaris conducted so ably was built on the back of her own work. Every TIE fighter, cubic meter of Tibanna, and order of spares needed to maintain the furious pace of combat arriving on time was her achievement.

Losing track of the story and its acts below, Tandi Maxcetus closed her eyes to bask in the honors that had already arrived and those that would come. Emperor Gaul knew of her value and she would be rightly rewarded, she had done her part. The Empire would prosper and she would prosper with it.

As the Grand Moff slowly drifted through her thoughts in her opulent theatre box, her aides outside debated who would be the one to provide news of Rebel Activity on Yag'Dhul that had just occurred.

SIDESTORY: A New Order Rising from the Ashes New

A New Order Rising from the Ashes

Luke Skywalker, Hero of the Rebellion, Jedi Knight, the "Last" Jedi, found himself back on the planet of Naboo, waiting for a meeting of the Senate to end as he moved several stones back and forth with the Force. He moved the rocks effortlessly, having grown in his abilities with telekinesis and various other tenets of the Force over the last couple of years. When not fighting in the northern part of the galaxy, he had been training and expanding his knowledge of the Force, traveling to various worlds and collecting what he could.

He moved the rocks again as he smiled. "You know I can feel you trying to sneak up on me."

Leia (Skywalker) Organa couldn't help but smirk at her brother's antics, shaking her head in mock disapproval as she settled down beside him. "Always the showman, aren't you?" she teased, a hint of fondness in her voice.

"Yes, that is exactly what I am doing. How was the meeting?"

"Not terrible. Wedge's gambit has quieted the rumblings a lot, especially Garm. That man can be insufferable, but at least he isn't Borsk."

Luke chuckled at that, and Leia immediately punched her brother in the arm. "Don't laugh! I swear, Luke, the only other person who gets me that mad is Han. At least he does it out of love!"

"You two are doing well, yes?"

"Would like to see him more when he isn't off playing General, but we are doing fine. Need to find you someone now…"

"Oh not this again Leia, there is too much to do and…" Luke gave a loud sigh as it was Leia's turn to be smiling. "Calm down Luke, just teasing you a little."

Since they had figured out they were brother and sister the pair's bond had grown considerably, each working to support each other. It was this bond and support that Luke now hoped to use… "Leia… I have news."

"If it is about you know, I am well informed on that subject, maybe more than you. We are preparing and building, Ackbar has a lot of plans along with Madine."

"No, no, it isn't about that. Well, in a way, it is, yes, but…" Luke took a breath and looked over at his sister, who was looking worriedly at him. "What is it, Luke?"

"Ashoka and I had a long talk, about things in the past, about the Jedi Order, about members of the Order, about our father."

Leia sucked in air as Luke mentioned their real father Anakin Skywalker… Darth Vader. She still could barely accept him as such, Bail Organa would always be her father no matter how much someone tried to convince her otherwise, and barely anyone knew the truth about her family connection. "Must you mention him? Even call him that…"

Luke knew it was a subject Leia wished to remain unspoken on, she looking away from Luke as he reached out to turn her back towards him. "It's important Leia, you don't have to explore that part of our life and exist if you don't want, nor will I force you, but it's the other half that I want to speak on, especially being here on Naboo."

A feeling of calm radiated through Leia as she slowly let her guard down, knowing Luke would do nothing to hurt her. "Are you talking about me training?"

"In part, I think you should, and that is a subject I want to bring up on a larger scale, but first… Leia, I finally know who our mother was. Ashoka told me."

Leia froze. She had always wondered who her real mother was, a secret kept from her as long as she had been alive. Every attempt to discover who she was had her blocked at every turn. She barely made a sound. "... who?"

"Padmé Naberrie Amidala. The former Queen and Senator of Naboo."

Leia's mind raced. Padmé was beloved across Naboo, even by the Gungans, while being a hero for democracy before and during the Clone Wars. A woman she had looked up to and admired. Her mother… She was speechless, her mind racing. "Are you sure Luke?" But even as she spoke the words she knew what he had said was true, smiling as he nodded.

"You feel it, don't you? You know. Ashoka couldn't completely confirm it, but she was genuinely confident of it. It's the connection we spoke of the last time I was here."

Leia smiled again, her mind still racing. She wished to find out all she could about her mother. She would find those who knew her and talk to them. Mothma had served in the Senate with her, so she would know. She started to tear up as joy overwhelmed her. "Luke, this is wondrous news, I... I can't tell you how much."

"I know, Leia. It is the answer you have looked for for years. Our past is finally found. The past. That is what I need your help with."

"Luke… I don't know if I can be a Jedi like you. I know you want me to be, but I have so much responsibility here to help run the Republic."

Luke chuckled again, the connection between them so strong that she could easily pick up on what he seemed to be talking about. "I know. I am not asking you to commit fully, but maybe some training here or there. I am talking about the Jedi, but not just you or me, but others."

Leia blinked. "Are you going to reform the Jedi Order?"

"On Yavin IV, it has already started. While Ashoka has declined to join, she said she will help where she can, help guide as she put it. But others have come. Kyle Katarn has joined up, along with a pilot from Rogue Squadron, though he has changed his name to cover himself. Also found a rather sleepy fellow that resided on Yavin asleep for many years now awoken with the threats on the horizon. Even have a woman that escaped Kessel and was roaming across Republic space, a woman named Vima, and another redhead woman known as Zara Sapphire. It's a small group, but it is a start and others might come. I just need permission from the New Republic to recruit and rebuild actively."

Leia snorted and shook her head. "I see why you lead with our mother. Getting on my good side!" She smiled. "Luke, you know I will always support you and with what we know might be coming I see all the more reason to support you here. I'll talk to Mon, you will get your support, it's the least we can do."

"Thanks, Leia. I'll need your help. Ashoka is heading out with Sabine to track down a lead that might also help us, but she will be there when she can. Of course, we will support the Republic as much as we can. But I feel this must happen sooner rather than later."

Leia leaned her head against her brother's shoulder and nodded. "The Force and the New Jedi Order are with us."

Each was taller than a man, sharply triangular, and made of a Transparisteel Alloy that offered an unaltered view of the vastness of space while also being strong enough to withstand the ravages of void travel. Only a few inches thick, a single blast from a turbolaser would melt the viewport in microseconds and leave the ruined remains of the bridge behind it open to the endless blackness beyond.

The Grand General did not understand why his naval counterparts always seemed to spend so much time gazing out these windows. There wasn't much to see in space. To Vonsol, it would have made more sense to cover the bridge in a foot or two of Durasteel and bury it in the center of the ship instead of placing it atop a tower. Why even have windows on the command bridge? Alas, in the end he wasn't a Naval Officer and he certainly wasn't a starship designer. The windows remained. And he was staring out of them. He didn't really know why. Perhaps Vaan was rubbing off on him.

Captain Reinhard Mesket, the Falling Star's Commander, stood next to him. They had shared only a few words since Vonsol had returned from the surface of Iktotch. Mesket had long been a loyal subordinate, almost a friend, to Kravic. But Vonsol had not - could not - share his thoughts in this moment. So instead he stared out the windows and tried to put his mind in order. He may as well have tried to divine the future.

The two men were silent for many more minutes before the Captain spoke.

"I've given the order for our return to Denon, sir. And Thraven just sent his report from Imperial Center. The deed is done. Your broadcast went over well, I'm told. The hologram was very imposing."

Kravic snorted, turning away from the blackness outside. "I'm sure. I don't have Gaul's flair for the dramatic, but politicians are easy to impress. I'm sure some of the Senators practically fainted at an immense hologram of a man in uniform." He shook his head, "That's behind us. The Empire has an Emperor again. Long live- What is he calling himself?"

"Manko the First, I believe."

"The First, eh?" Kravic grunted, "Bit presumptuous, but I won't deny Gaul's an ambitious bastard."

"Yes, sir."

The two stood in silence for another few moments. Vonsol kept his eyes away from the massive windows, letting his sight drift across the crew as they bustled throughout the bridge. His thoughts kept drifting back to the moon they were leaving behind. The Elder Iktotchi. The rumors and legends. Alien claptrap, he was sure, but even the most outlandish of myths had a kernel of truth beneath them. And with the way the Galaxy was changing...

"We're going to need to make some changes." He said softly, "Starting as soon as we get back to Denon."

Captain Mesket looked up from his datapad, eyebrows raised. "Sir? Is something wrong?"

"Not... yet. Vaan and I had some time to discuss after the meeting on the surface." He paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts. How much to tell Reinhard? How much could he say? "The Galaxy is shifting in ways we could never have predicted. These changes aren't going to stop, and if we don't prepare, we'll be left in the dust. Crushed. Lost." The Captain was staring at him now, "We've been focused on countering our enemies. Defeating Massa and regaining territory. All valid priorities. But we've been neglecting our own worlds. Our defenses. Our industry."

Kravic paused, taking a deep breath of recycled shipboard air. He could hardly stand it. How did Vaan do this? The man never left the Impetuous anymore. He practically lived in space. Vonsol was almost jealous. Shaking the thought from his mind, he continued. "Massa is just the start. Even if we kill him, the Rebellion will still come. And now the Hutts are making moves on the Rim. And the Triumvirate doing who knows what up north. We must adapt. Prepare."

"Sir?" There was a small note of concern, "What- if I might ask what brought this on?"

"Simple... precaution, Captian." Kravic replied, "Vaan and I- well, we must acknoledge that we are in this for the long term. When I... when we began this enterprise, the DMZ, it was with the surety that only Military Order could weather the storm of rebellion and madness that has encompassed the Galaxy. I am still sure of that. But it will not be an easy road, and I cannot see what twists and turns await us in the distance. We must- no, we will be ready for what comes. And we start our preparations today."

"I see, General." The Captain responded, with little confidence, "I am with you, of course. What would you have me do?"

Kravic forced a smile onto his face, the easy confidence of the war-loving general, back again. "Vaan has this concept that I believe will be of great value to us. Project Despot, he calls it. Review it, would you? Give me your thoughts at our next all-hands conference." He clapped the Captain on the shoulder, trying to ignore the phantom itching in his palms. The sense of anxious energy he hadn't felt since the days before Endor.

The Captain saluted smartly, a wave of relief washing over his face as he took the General's transformation for sincere confidence. "Yes, sir. And if I may, we have held our own against everything the Rebels have thrown at us so far. I have no doubt we'll be ready for whatever they think of next."

The Captain withdrew into the bustle of the Bridge, and Vonsol stood alone at the windows once more. He turned back to the endless darkness, separated from him by only a few inches of transparent metal. Alone and in the silence of deep thought, he looked again into space. He tried, once more, to see why so many others spent their hours staring out at the stars.

Nothing came to him.

With a disgruntled snarl, Grand General Vonsol turned away from the void and headed for his quarters. He'd spend his time on something less pointless. Something like, he thought to himself darkly, trying to see what's coming next.
