Once every 10,000 years, there is a contest. This contest is held among every sentient space faring race in the galaxy, and much more is at stake than merely honor or prize money. According to the legends, the victor of this test, this race, is granted an Ultimate Prize, powerful enough to grant a single desire.
But this tale is only a myth surely. A Prize that can grant any wish? Such a thing could not exist in this world. Your entire species had long regarded it as a little known story for children. That is until one day 25 year ago. A great burst of light and wind appeared in front of the leaders of your species, revealing a figure in pink robes and curled wings of light.
"Greetings. Despite your insignificance in the eyes of the universe I ,the Avatar, invite you to join the beings of the galaxy in the Great Race of Oban! Be ready: the hour of the Ultimate Prize draws near."
That day heralded the truce of Oban, a period where all species competing in the race ceased conflicts and prepared themselves. This truce has now passed, and the assembled teams and challengers are being brought together for the greatest race of all time. This, of course, includes you.
Race now, for Oban, and for the Ultimate Prize!
.....
The sound of crashing waves can be heard within the darkness of the massive upside down egg that had served as your transport to the site of the first stages of the race. You have finally arrived on the planet Sangar, one of the three planets upon which the preliminary rounds will take place, your first step towards the Ultimate Prize.
The landing hadn't exactly been comfortable, and your body still aches all over. Still, as you got up, you feel a thrill course through you. Rather than anxiety at the trials that lay ahead, you are...
[] Excited. This is it. Your chance for a wish is right in front of you. You're going to seize it with both hands.
[] Restless. Finally, a real challenge, with racers from across the entire galaxy as your rivals! You can't wait to get started.
[] Expectant. Hundreds of species you've never met before will be gathered here. It's an event that you'll probably never see the likes of again.
Still, you're not the only person on the ship. Your team mechanic is behind you, and it appears that he's only just noticed you. "Ah! T-there you are -"
[] Name
-[] Male
-[] Female
"W-we were just wondering where you'd vanished. Y-you okay down there?"
You tell him that you're fine. It's just a couple of bruises at worst, nothing major. He sighs with relief. Then again your mechanic has always been a bit of a wuss when it comes to being inside of pretty much any moving object. That's why you'd always been the one to race the machines he'd created.
Yes, you are the teams racer. Whilst your mechanic will be the one to look after and maintain your craft, and your manager the one to assist and give advice to you on the racetrack, you were chosen to be the person who would pilot the ship and race for your people. It was your wish that would be granted by the Ultimate Prize. That wish was, of course...
[] Freedom for your species. For decades you have been one of a number of species oppressed or 'allied' to the Crog Imperium, and your people have suffered under it. You were unbeaten in the underground races that took place on your homeworld, which had led to your being enlisted into the team.
[] A loved one returned. Once you were one of the best racers there were. You had won race after race, and for a while everything had seemed to be going well. It was when you lost your only son that everything lost meaning. You never even so much as touched another ship. At least, not until you heard of the Ultimate Prize.
[] What wish? You just want to get to the top, to race and beat the greatest racers in the galaxy. You want to experience the thrill of the contest and the rush of speed as you accelerate through the air. You may not have the same drive as other racers, but your desire to experience what shall undoubtedly be the most exhilarating moment of your life pushes you on all the same.
The door between you and the future ahead falls down, allowing bright light to flood into the gloom of the shuttle. Blinded by the sudden change in brightness, you raise a hand to your face, seeing
[] How the light catches the red crystal-like substance that makes up your body. You are a member of the Vidall, a silicon based species. Your species is known for it's willpower and resolve in difficult situations.
[] How the light pour through slight gaps and cracks in between the vines that you are formed from. You are a member of the Sidor, a plant based species known for their skill in remaining calm under pressure.
[] How the light makes the veins in the webbed skin between your fingers stand out. Your are a member of the Corael, an aquatic species renowned for having immense perception and fast reactions.
You join up with the rest of your teammates, and move towards the light, ready for the challenges that lie in wait.
.....
Well, since GonnaSneeze is leaving the shitposter cave, I suppose I'd better go join him. Anyway, for those of you who don't know, Oban Star-Racers was a pseudo-anime tv show that was released in 2006. Whilst it was only 26 episodes long, it was really well polished, which is a given seeing as how the guy who wanted to make this started up his own company and tirelessly involved himself in every level of the project for 10 years until the series was released. I chose this because I don't think anyone else on the sight has ever done a quest based on this series, and therefore not as many people will care if i screw it up compared to if i did a PMMM quest.
Note that i will probably be a bit slow to update this quest because of 2 main things. 1) I am a lazy bastard and this fact is sadly not going to change in the near future, and 2) It's been a while since I watched the series and I may need to play catchup for research purposes. Also nostalgia.
With that said, Vote now, for Oban, and for the Ultimate Prize!
