AN: This has been added to this post long after its initial writing, but its something I feel should be pointed out to new people arriving to this thread. You may have noticed the Mature tag at the front of this, and you may have concerns or hopes as to what this means. While I am aware much of the initial perception around this tag relates to the nature of legality of sexual content, I am of the mindset that there are plenty of other topics relevant to mature minds that may not be strictly suitable for youths.
This is a quest consisting of two environments with plenty of values and concerns very different than the societies I suspect most of my readers are a part of. Drugs and violence and cruelty to one another are in abundance, and frankly, I consider those topics of greater concern. As such, I voluntarily add the mature tag to my work, not because of any sort of lewd content, but because active drug use and descriptions of violence I feel are more of a problem for young impressionable minds.
You are Honeybee, as the other stalkers call you, and you are currently coming to a single ultimate truth of being yourself.
You hate running. Really, you do, running is something you do because of a sense of urgency, a thing indicating something is not going to plan. However, planning, can only go so far. Sure, your plan on your latest profit venture was solid. You spent quite some time on it, gathering the supplies, food, ammo, and all the necessities you'd need. You even spent the time hunting specifically for the types of bandits who prey on artifact hunters, just to get one of your own. However, you forgot one basic thing about the Zone.
Specifically that it doesn't give a fuck, so when you deviate from that little nest of mutants on your path to keep them from ruining your plan… the Zone is perfectly content to start flaring in an emission, while you are far from the Skadovsk or any reasonably safe location… leading to you sprinting for an uncharted bunker. You hate the burning in your legs and your lungs as you run so hard. You hate the ragged dragging on the mucus in your throat. You hate the thunder that is the Zone's laughter when it hears your pack's straps jingling as they slap against the buckles of your vest and suit. You hate the magazine pouch on the right side that is just slightly out of position since your latest repairs so it digs into your ribs when the slightly loose straps bounce out of position and over it.
With a few more strides and a desperate leap though, you realize what you, and many other stalkers, hate most.
Concrete, in the form of stairs, going down.
Nothing good ever came of those.
EVER!
However, with the roaring heat and hate of the Zone rushing behind you, you scramble down into them, hoping for safety against the meatblending, mindfucking, evil wave of bullshit coming behind you… and then, when you notice the failed locking mechanism of the door at the bottom you make the same mistake that leads to every sane stalker hating the Zone bunkers… you get curious and go inside.
It wasn't terribly hard to discern the cause of failure for the door's locking mechanism. The innards of the bunker were horrifically scorched. Some sort of explosion and spread of chemicals seemed to rip a hole in a wall ahead of you, the reinforcing rebar forming an impromptu shaping for the jet of flame to melt through the back of the door. You wonder what the hell they were studying here, but decide that's probably something you wouldn't want to know even if some evidence existed.
With the storm and emission still raging overhead though… you allow your curiosity to draw you slightly deeper. Your detector isn't picking up any signs of anomalies, so it's not as if it's swarming with pyro anomalies down here. As you search though, there isn't MUCH left down here at all. Most of the computers are torched, as is much of the paper you find, though you do find part of a form referencing an architectural anomaly.
You rack your head, thinking what that could possibly be referencing, but simply cannot bring anything to mind that would be considered architecture. There is another reference to another facility's work, involving some sort of teleportation findings, but even with the damage you can tell their studies were inconclusive. You drop the folder with a dissatisfied grunt as it slaps onto the melted filing cabinet. No one would pay you for this, neither the scientists or Owl would be able to pretend to care.
It is another twenty agonizing minutes of listening to your own fruitless footfalls in the halls before you find anything else of note. The item in question, however, is undeniably…. architectural. The cultural similarity to something quirks at your memory a bit, but you have never been a particularly good history student. The sheer blackness of the hallway inside though seems unnatural. Your detector however remains silent.
You throw a bolt inside, and though you hear it's impact you lose sight of it… tentatively, you step inside, and again, and then are striding further, noting nothing giving you a navigational aid other than the sound of your own footsteps in this darkness, until suddenly, you break back out into the light, with a warm breeze shifting by, brushing across what little of your face isn't obscured by your balaclava. Looking around, you notice how much more vivid the greens and browns of the surrounding wilderness seem. The sight of vines over some long discarded ruins of stone, and a verdant forest like nothing you would ever expect to find in the Zone.
Was this a dream? Or perhaps the fabled Oasis? Neither of these seemed likely to you. Regardless, as you looked about, the place seemed real, as did you. You take inventory in your kit, and check it over with what you know.
[] You are a more careful sort, with what you would consider a medium load.
-A Gsh-18, four loaded magazines not including the one in the weapon, additional twenty rounds. Minor customizations for a smoother feed. Maintenance kit of low quality with most of the tools needing to be replaced. The suppressor works well though.
-An AK-105, 12 loaded magazines including the one in the weapon, and an additional sixty rounds. Complete with a low magnification scope, this weapon is your loyal companion, and you have a good kit for it, as well as extensive modifications to the feed and high quality parts for accuracy and reliability. You also have a GP launcher with three rounds in your pack.
-Several days food, can probably stretch it out to a week and a half if desperate.
-A harmonica, a trusted companion.
-A high quality mil-grade switchblade.
-Three mil-grade grenades.
-Two shitty grenades, you aren't sure you can trust these to reliably kill zombies.
-Additional kevlar sheets to your armor.
-A gasmask.
-A lightweight kit of some gauze, minimal painkillers, and some antibiotics.
-A bottle of Nemiroff vodka, unopened.
-A windup flashlight
-Two canteens of clean mineral water. As well as some purification tablets.
-An "Eye" Artifact, in proper application container.
[] You are a more hands on sort, if action needs to be taken, it should be loud, personal, and fear inspiring. The less people willing to fuck with you the easier your life. Your load is heavy.
-A USP chambered in .45ACP. With five spare magazines, though no extra rounds. Your current magazine has spent two rounds, courtesy of a bloodsucker. It is fairly well loved on, though your kit has seen some use most of the tools still do their job.
-A S-12K, With fifteen 10 round magazines, twelve of which are shot, three of which are slugs. You had more extra slugs, but you spent them on an exo equipped bandit. This is your baby and you have the best kit you can get for it, with plenty of spare tools. You have a very powerful flashlight on the side.
-At most a week's worth of food, between some ukrainian rations, some canned beans, and some chimera jerky that you are saving for a special occasion.
-A half depleted bottle of vodka with a damaged brand lable, you think it's decent.
-Some bandages.
-A harmonica, well loved.
-A combat knife, Kabar in origin.
-Four mil-grade grenades.
-Additional carbon steel plates to your milgrade suit.
-A customized modern M40 helmet, with an NV rack. The device is in your pack.
-A camelback full of water.
-An "Eye" Artifact, in proper application container.
[] You are a very patient sort, with a planned approach to every problem and a steady aim.
-An "Alpine" Sig P220, with six spare magazines. This is one of your babies, as such, you have a good maintenance kit and its tuned perfectly for your aiming preferences.
-A Dragunov SVD, with six spare magazines. This is your real baby, tuned precisely for your aim. You are somewhat struggling to find kits for it though, and the kit for it isn't as complete as you'd like making maintenance a chore.
-Two weeks of food, by your standards at least.
-A canteen of vodka.
-A single high quality medical kit with antibiotics, antirad, and everything one needs for kinetic projectile trauma.
-A harmonica, you think you can play it.
-An "Eye" Artifact, in proper application container.
AN: Well, I was thinking I'd start another quest alongside my continuing Puru Quest, to help me balance out my writing a bit. I tossed this as well as a few other idea's at a friend, and this is the one that won. We both wanted something to be in Gateverse where the Japanese weren't the only competent people in either planet.
[X] You are a more hands on sort, if action needs to be taken, it should be loud, personal, and fear inspiring.
I love the STALKER franchise, but I was put off by the huge stomp of basically everything by the SDF in GATE. This looks to be interesting, though, and I admit watching more might have changed my mind. Have no idea how Honeybee will resupply.

With these words right here you make me very happy. Gate had and honestly still has so much damn potential, but dammit the SDF is not an elite force. The world they built though is too damn good to just ignore because of a Mary Sue defense force.
Welp, I feel like writing the next part already, so locking the votes. You guys probably went with one of the safer options equipment wise, with a practical armament and some capacity for carrying spoils.
You are a more careful sort, with what you would consider a medium load.

Satisfied that all your kit remains together, and that you are indeed sane despite the strange sights around you, you begin exploring. It is a bit of a troublesome task though, as your PDA seems reluctant to pull up mapping information. Perhaps a strange sort of interference from whatever teleportation the anomaly sent you through? You can't know.
Still, as you walk through this forest, you can't help but note how strange a healthy woodland seems to you now. Trees are supposed to look sickly to you, struggling to keep grip on their last remaining leaves. Animals are supposed to be half bald mangey things with cysts across the surface of their bodies, and a hatred for humans. Yet these birds and squirrels seem just as skittish of you as a newbie with their first makarov.
It is also a bit warmer than you have grown used to in the swamp around Skadovsk. You tuck down the hood of your suit, though despite the temptation, you don't roll up your sleeves. The thick material there wont stop a bullet, but it will be nice to have is a dog bounds out of the bushes looking for a snack. At one point, your gear might have been more or less similar to the sunrise suit that seems so popular with stalkers, but with your black tactical vest over the top, as well as significant added padding the similarities are superficial. About the only thing it retains is a largely green coloration.
You never liked the military suits and helmets that were available from Owl from time to time. They simply restricted your movement and vision too much. That said… it should be only about noon according to your watch… but it looks like late afternoon right now. You increase your pace a bit, hoping to get some sign of a decent shelter for the night. Sure, you can skip the night of sleep, but camping outside at night is not an entirely safe practice in the Zone even if you don't intend to sleep while doing so.
Eventually, you do see what appears to be a worn down dirt path in the forest, and in the interests of finding any sort of stalker camp you follow it, though at a distance. Staying on the open road is a good way to take a bullet to the face. You didn't get assigned a nickname by taking up suicidal practices.
Still, as you continue moving, the sun is actually getting quite low before you actually hear any signs of life bigger than a rabbit. It sounds like arguing, in various tones. You slow your pace a bit to try and spot them before they spot you, but the light through the canopy is poor, and it is quite some time before you get close enough for a look. Oddly, you still can't understand a single word they are saying, or even get a good idea of what language it could be. You aren't a great linguist, speaking only Russian and decent English. Whateverthefuckese is not one of your proficient tongues.
Still, though, you are confused beyond that. They appear to be wearing rough cloth and rougher leather for most of their attire, and you don't see a Kalash or Toz in the lot of them. In fact, one seems to be boredly resting by some cage bars with a spear of all things. One towards the back is wearing what has to be the most realistic dog mask you've ever seen.
The arguing seems to be between a group of four, men of varying statures as they take turns trying to start a campfire. From the looks of it, they have some moist tinder. Rock banging isn't going to light that no matter how well they strike it.
Overall, none of them seem terribly bright, besides not keeping their proper weapons on them you swear one actually has a scabbard and a honest to god metal breastplate. Spotting some shadowed movement, you draw your eyes back towards the cage, and see a shivering form from within, with either the most threadbare shawl of all time or the longest hair you've seen in the zone.
Still, it appears they are trying to make a camp here, making the prospects bleak that there is proper shelter elsewhere, or at least within manageable walking distance.
You….
[] Stand up and call out to them, maybe you can use the numbers as a deterrent against mutants. Also, you actually have a chance of starting that fire.
[] Take up position nearby, continue to watch, trying not to alert them.
----[] Focus on the group.
----[] Focus on the prisoner.
[] Kill them, their bearing and condition screams 'Bandit' to you anyway, they'd probably stab you in the back. Besides, they are keeping a prisoner like a display piece.
----[] Take care not to harm the prisoner.
----[] Use a grenade, what happens, happens.

--[X] Not to be a dick, but these guys seem like idiots, and idiots don't last long in the Zone. Step out in the open and carefully pop them all in the head one by one. No reason to waste ammo. You're really doing them a favor if you think about it.

As a player of the MISERY mod for STALKER, I take great pride in attempting to bushwhack any bandits I find. What will watching them do for us, considering we can't understand the language in the first place? Might as well shoot them and find out who they've imprisoned. The way they're dressed suggests that they're not part of any army, at the very least.

Well, if I don't account for the subvote difference votes are tied, if I do account for it then you are observing. In the interests of not flipping a coin, I will give another hour for the thread to reach consensus.
