No, you can't have a magecraft beam war on the rooftops of buildings downtown. No, we don't care who started it, or both parties sticking to non-lethal attacks.

If only Gaian mages were as restrained.

Quit flying around with your devices, you're giving a few determined Yggdmillenia headaches trying to copy the effects and giving perverts down below a show. At least get those barrier jackets to have pants.
Air traffic laws!

Other Notes (In the Quest, 2001-2002):

Mainly because I spent three days writing up Illya's view, and I don't want to make it any longer...
  • The sea level is rapidly rising as the ice caps are melting at an increasing rate due to the nuclear weapons that were used to try to kill Primate Murder. Illya thought that it would be a mere decade before a large chunk of Uminari would become underwater, until Hayate double-checked her calculations. Illya still thinks that her original estimate isn't too far off, maybe in two or three decades instead of the original one, if one takes into consideration her prediction that it is only a matter of time before a group of magi go nuts with fire magecraft or a world leader's temper gets the better of him and fires another missile. Hayate isn't interested in taking her bet.
  • There is a divide between mages of both Gaian and Mid-Childan decent and non-mages, with a non-mages typically going out of their way to avoid interacting with the magecraft users. The primary cause of this is fear of what a mage can do to a non-mage. While some basic magecraft classes being taught in school (despite the ever-growing decrease of magecraft as a result) helps bridge the divide, the the two sides typically stick to their own, with children mostly following the lead of their parents. The Itou boy is one of a handful who has reached out to try to cross the gap, which gives Illya a smile.
  • The Emiya family is well known throughout the world... though in Uminari, it can be said that they have no honor. Mundanely, the head has a criminal past, and takes time off of his jobs in order to play hero (so it could be said that he is a hero without honor), leaving his wife and mistress at home to try to cover the bills. In regards to the Moonlit world, going against traditions and exposing the Moonlit world has devastated their honor there as well. Shirou is taking after his adoptive father's recent activities, abandoning school to run off and be a hero himself, but the weight of his father's past doesn't hold him back, so it could be said that he has more honor than his father (at the moment). Maiya, with a known criminal record, little honor herself. It could be said that the only reason they aren't looked at dis-favorably is because they've done a lot of good for a lot of people by ignoring honor. Hayate is isolated a lot of the time, so her... inclinations don't impact how the world looks at her on either side. As it is, Illya and her mother are the most 'honorable' individuals of the household, with Illya being the more honorable of the two. Following most of the guidelines of magecraft users and working for the mundane society, the only real complaints about them is that they're attached to a household of 'honorless heroes'.

Oh yeah, is Midchildian still being negatively influenced by being spread around? Does anyone have a link to the why posts? Cause it's not Thaumatology. And they aren't TYPEs I think? Which means they were in the Gaiain Grand Reality Marble before they made it to Earth so that shouldn't be changing anything on how their magic works either.

  • The sea level is rapidly rising as the ice caps are melting at an increasing rate due to the nuclear weapons that were used to try to kill Primate Murder. Illya thinks that it will take about five years before Uminari starts to feel the effects, and another five years afterwards before a good chunk of the city is underwater. She plans on moving to an apartment in a downtown building to avoid getting stuck underwater once she gets old enough to leave the household.

I'd complain that's not how any of that works, but we've already established Magic doesn't need to obey the rules, so why should science?

Absolutely no.
The nuclear detonations in real life didn't have that effect.
Also Even if ALL those nuclear detonations were Tsar Bomb Level, they'd still be the equivalent of less energy then the amount the earth receives from the sun every TEN SECONDS. Even a thousand times more energy would have negligible effect on the ice caps.
Even if You were to detonate 6 tsar Bombs at the antarctic you'd melt one part per ten million of the ice.
Please, ad least let the SCIENCE work properly.

Hey, at least the world doesn't (yet) need to deal with nukes that have been enhanced by magecraft for maximum death and destruction.

AKA, 'Brahmastra Everywhere'

I've gone and altered Illya's predictions. Her original estimate was that a chunk of Uminari would be underwater in ten years, before Hayate got a hold of her calculations and corrected her, saying that while the ice caps were melting, it wasn't anywhere that bad yet. Illya relented, adjusting her predictions to two or three decades, four tops. Hayate complained that it still wasn't that bad, before Illya replied that she wasn't taking into consideration the fact that it was only a matter of time before someone did something else stupid to increase the melting rate.

There was a discussion between the two about making a bet about how long it would take for that 'something else stupid' to take place, but Hayate declined to make it. You aren't aware of the details, since both girls took pains to hide them from the adults, but apparently the 'lose' cost for Hayate was something that she'd be tempted to purposely lose the bet for if it wasn't for the fact the consequences on the world would be too great.

I'm going to try to get up the actions for the adults in the coming days. Remember, since Shirou is in the hospital, all therapy actions relating to him are going to be off-limits this year.

Year 9: Kiritsugu
Year 9: Kiritsugu

The world continues to deteriorate around you, even as you try to keep your family relatively stable. Iskander has essentially taken over Uminari and Mitakihara through the simple fact that no one else has spaceships capable of war anymore, the TSAB is effectively finished, Mid-Childa is being completely abandoned to the Cross, Gilgamesh has begun to rebuild his kingdom in the modern age, and the United States have effectively declared war on magecraft.

And yet, life goes on. Because of Shirou putting himself in the hospital, the household remains relatively quiet. Illya grumpily trudges through all the paperwork the mages of Uminari create, and your youngest daughters are starting to go out and make connections among their classmates. Perhaps this year will finally be a peaceful year that you so desperately need.

In the United States, during the Cold War between itself and the Soviet Union, a number of people had shelters constructed that could, in theory, withstand a nuclear attack. It would probably be a good idea to have a bunker constructed so that in the case that a nuclear weapon is launched everyone of your family has a decent chance of surviving.
(Cost: 15 Resources) (Benefit: Safe from Nuclear attacks)

[X] Alien Teacher
- [X] Alien Teacher: Kiritsugu

Hiroto Minaka, the head of MBI, has sent an unusual job offer across your desk for any of the adults of the household. He wants a discreet teacher of the world for nearly a hundred aliens he's been keeping secret from the world. Despite none of the three of you having any teaching degrees, he wants one of you to teach the ninety-plus school-ready aliens enough so that they'll be able to go into the world without drawing attention in a few years.

Kiritsugu Emiya's Plans for the Year: (Choose 2)
[X] Kiritsugu: Never Again
The Sixth Holy Grail War is coming soon, in the next few years at the latest. However, perhaps by blowing up the ley lines around Fuyuki, you can delay it, or perhaps even stop it all together.
(Cost: 3 Resources, 1 Time) (Benefit: ???)

[X] Kiritsugu: Nuking the Grail
The Fuyuki Greater Grail is the cause of the Grail Wars. By throwing all your fire-power and the firepower of those that you are on speaking terms with at the Grail, you could prevent all future Grail Wars in Fuyuki.
(Cost: 3 Resources, ???) (Benefit: Fuyuki Greater Grail Destroyed)

[X] Kiritsugu: Catalyst Hunt
As long as there is a Greater Grail, there will eventually be a Grail War. You're not sure who will provide the Lesser Grail, but that doesn't matter. What does matter is that by getting a catalyst for a specific Servant now, your family doesn't have to go out to get it later, and grants options for them.
(Cost: ???) (Benefit: Catalyst obtained)
-[X] Catalyst: (Write-In; Note that certain catalysts may require resources to acquire)

[X] Kiritsugu: Dreams? Or Something More?
There's these odd dreams… perhaps delving into them and understanding them could be useful.
(Benefit: Learn of these odd dreams, Stay at home more, choose one option)
-[X] Dream: A small town in the sky, where a hero in green goes to the surface beneath the clouds and fights against… Saber.
-[X] Dream: This seems familiar… is it Fuyuki before it was destroyed? Wait, is that a teenage Shirou? And why did the spearman kill him?!?
-[X] Dream: A land of steel waits in your dreams… a land where the world is dead, but its children live on in defiance of its last wish.
-[X] Dream: The Tohno head is dead, and a pair of vampires have made their way to Misaki City… There will be a bloodbath by the end of it…
-[X] Dream: Transylvania. Fifteen Servants. Two teams. A bloodbath never before seen.

[X] Kiritsugu: Target: Tohno
You are confused as to how this particular request got into your files, addressed to you directly, but it seems that someone really wants the Tohno head dead for some reason. The base reward is questionable, a small amount compared to normal assassinations… but the final reward is whatever treasures you can loot from the mansion, and… a marriage contract for Shirou?!? The only people off-limits to kill are the maids and the heiress. Finally, there's even a detailed map of the Tohno mansion…
(Cost: 2 Resources, 1 Time) (Benefit: 25% Death; If survive, 52% Tohno head dead, 1+2d6 Resources, Marriage Contract to Shirou if Tohno dead)
-[X] Target: Convenient Cover
There is the curse expert in Misaki you can visit while in the area, giving a reasonable excuse to be in Misaki and get updated on the remaining curses on you.
(Benefit: Information)

[X] Kiritsugu: Target: Tohno Family
Someone else wants the Tohno line ended. Completely. The current head, the heiress, the hidden heir in the basement, most of the servants, and all of the Tohno relatives with a direct bloodline to the Tohno. All of them dead. The base reward is questionable, a small amount compared to normal assassinations, but the final reward is what catches your eyes: whatever that can be looted from the mansion, and a marriage contract for Shirou. However, how the contract is to be enforced when the person to be married to Shirou is on the kill list is a question that needs to be answered.
(Cost: 4 Resources, 2 Time) (Benefit: 45% Death; If survive, % of Tohno family dead, 1+2d6 Resources)
-[X] Target: Convenient Cover
There is the curse expert in Misaki you can visit while in the area, giving a reasonable excuse to be in Misaki and get updated on the remaining curses on you.
(Benefit: Information)

[X] Kiritsugu: Target: The Puppetmaster
Aoko Aozaki has put a hit on her sister, the Puppetmaster Touko Aozaki. While she believes that you won't succeed completely, she does believe that you can lock her older sister down enough so that she can move in and finish her once and for all. The reasoning behind the sudden appearance of the contract... and confirmed by a counter-contract... is that Aoko has received Command Seals, and (correctly) believed that Touko also received Command Seals. Aoko wants to take Touko out of the picture before the Grail War gets underway.
(Cost: 2 Time, 4 Resources) (Success: 10%) (Failure: Puppetmaster becomes enemy) (Rewards: 10 Resources, Aoko Aozaki moves to Uminari, gain access to puppet magecraft for family, optional extra Command Seals)

[X] Kiritsugu: Target: The Blue
Touko Aozaki has put a hit on her sister, the True Magician Aoko Aozaki. While she believes that you won't succeed completely, she does believe that, with your help, she can finish her little sister off once and for all. The reasoning behind the sudden appearance of the contract... and confirmed by a counter-contract... is that Touko has received Command Seals, and (correctly) believed that Aoko also received Command Seals. Touko wants to take Aoko out of the picture before the Grail War gets underway.
(Cost: 2 Time, 4 Resources) (Success: 10%) (Failure: Game Over) (Rewards: 10 Resources, Optional Puppet Body for Hayate, Touko Aozaki moves to Uminari, optional extra Command Seals)

[X] Kiritsugu: MBI Employment
Hiroto Minaka, the head of MBI, has a special position as a bodyguard for Kiritsugu. While nothing happened to him last year, with the Thaumaturgy War starting to swing in favor of the Magi, Minaka wants your expertise to keep him safe from Underworld threats, Moonlit threats, and, in particular, safe from the threat of his ex-wife, Takami Sahashi, the Second Owner of Shin-Tokyo.
(Benefit: +6 Resources)

[X] Kiritsugu: Kiritsugu's Mundane Job (Write-In)
Surely you can find a mundane job in the world you can do. Right? Right? (Write-In Job)
(Benefit: Possible Mundane Work, +3 Resources or +1 Resource, Stay at home more)

[X] Kiritsugu: Hobbyist (Write-In Hobby)
You could take up a mundane hobby. People get paid for doing their hobbies all the time. How hard could it be? (Write-In Hobby)
(Cost: 1 Resource) (Benefit: Opens opportunities, stay at home more)

[X] Kiritsugu: Magecraft Training
Illya may be busy with her schooling and her paperwork, but she probably has enough time for learning new magecraft. Kuro's and Miyu's magecraft is beginning, but unfocused. You can teach all three of them a few tricks of your old trade, and possibly get them to adapt a few things of your added magecraft to work normally for normal magi.
(Cost: 1 Time) (Benefit: Kiritsugu's Magecraft +1, children's magecraft have assassin leanings and adapt Puella Magi magic for magecraft)

[X] Kiritsugu: Clearing the Pillar
A number of 'Tree Demons' have taken to appearing around the 'Grief Pillar' in Mitakihara, knowing when and where to strike and to flee. You can deal with them and access the Pillar safely in the future... if you use enough firepower in order to make sure that they can't dodge it.
(Cost: 3 Resources) (Benefit: +4 Time, No Time cost or Upkeep this year)

[o] Kiritsugu: Deal with the Kaleido Knights
The Tohsaka heiress may have a few more Grief Seeds, but she is focusing her attention squarely on her own city to try to deal with all the growing problems there. She has little time to deal with an outsider at the moment.

[X] Kiritsugu: The Last Curses
There are still a few curses left on you. Perhaps it might be nice to get them looked at before you die, and it would give Shirou a chance to connect with a few old friends before you can no longer take him there.
(Cost: Cannot be taken with any 'Target') (Benefit: Information)

[X] Kiritsugu: The Family Man
You are on a timer until your death. Perhaps it would be nice to simply relax with your family.
(Benefit: Home Knowledge, connect with neighbors more easily, -1 Resource upkeep this year)

[X] Kiritsugu: Subtle Healing
While you may not be able to do anything for Shirou at the moment, you can use your power from the Contract in order to slowly heal Hayate enough so that she'll be able to move her limbs more easily without drawing too much attention to the matter (you'll need to wait until next year to allow her to go about on her own two legs).
(Cost: 2 Time) (Benefit: Damage to Hayate's body greatly undone)

[X] Kiritsugu: Other Plans (Write-In)
Perhaps there is something else that can be done?

Free Actions: (Choose any you'd like)
Illya's College Fund:
Illya is going to be old enough to go to college in a couple of years, and putting aside some money now would enable her to do so without having to go perform jobs in a community that doesn't seem to approve of her very much. Still, a scholarship from Japan for Shirou's efforts in Mitakihara have reduced the cost...
(Cost: 4 Resources)
[X] Illya's Fund: Yes
[X] Illya's Fund: No

Hayate's College Fund:
Despite being two years younger than Illya, Hayate is only one year behind her academically, so she'll be graduating from school the year after Illya leaves the household. She currently doesn't have as much capability for jobs as Illya does, but she does have options. At any rate, college is an option, abet not one that Hayate was originally interested in... and there is that scholarship from Japan for Shirou's actions in Mitakihara...
(Cost: 4 Resources)
[X] Hayate's Fund: Yes
[X] Hayate's Fund: No

Yuuno's Servant:
Yuuno's been marked as a Master for the next Grail War, if it even occurs. He is currently aiming for Merlin, the head mage of King Arthur's Court, who is said to have been a True Magician in his time, as his Servant. While it is possible, considering two members of the opposition, perhaps another suggestion may be a good idea.
[X] Servant: (Write-In)
[X] Servant: (None)

Shirou's Jewel Seed:
The TSAB has finally gotten enough skilled surgeons away from Mid-Childa to remove the Jewel Seed from Shirou's body. It may provide great power, but considering what it did to your son... still, it is your final call.
[X] Seed: Remove
[X] Seed: Leave

This has been a long time coming. Votes will close when I can get around to it, and we'll be moving on to Irisviel next.

So right now we 4 Resources and 5 Time, with expected upkeep of 8 Resources and 1 Time.

Healing Hayate a bit will be best if we also do the pillar option, because that nullifies the cost of 2 Time. Irisviel should probably do her manga (at least 4 Resources) and one of the teaching jobs (because her teaching little kids can only end in hilarity).

Thoughts on this general outline, everyone?
All three adults will have actions... though if you want to put them into Shared actions now, Irisviel and Maiya will have correspondingly less actions to take.
Can we hold off on the College Fund votes until after we see the other adults' options?

Lets not do any actual voting on the other adults quite yet. After all, we haven't seen what new options they have.

We might want to swap the second teaching job so that Iri gets the blank option.

...One vote?

*sigh* I suppose that if no other votes come up, I'll start to move to end the quest...

In a little more than a week, I'll get moving on this, whether to put up the next set of options (Irisivel's actions) or put down something to go towards a conclusion...

Yeah,I just wait for the update .

Year 9: Irisivel and Maiya
Year 9: Irisivel and Maiya

It was decided that you would have a low-key year yourself this year. You would go demon-hunting in Mitakihara, using so many explosives that the demons wouldn't be able to dodge them even if they saw you coming, and you would work on healing Hayate's body between visits home. Meanwhile, Irisivel would run general classes on the Moonlit World, so that fewer people would run into what goes bump in the night as easily, and Maiya would work for MBI in the position of teacher... though the question remained of the class selection (Common Sense? Why was that even a class?).

Meanwhile, you finally got word that the surgeons from Mid-Childa had moved to Earth (with no one staying behind on the distant world), and they were willing to remove the Jewel Seed from Shirou. You took them up on the offer; that artifact was a potential danger, and it would be safer if it was gotten rid of once and for all. With the scholarships that your family received for Shirou's heroic efforts in Mitakihara, you could afford to put Illya through college, a decision that Illya was pleased by.

Still, there were other things that Irisviel and Maiya were able to do in the year...

Irisviel von Einzbern's Plans for the Year: (Choose 1)

[X] Irisviel: Research on Destroying the Grail
Outright destroying the Grail would likely be very costly, even if it would stop all future Grail Wars in Fuyuki. By doing research on what the destroyers are going to be doing, it might be possible to reduce the cost of taking the Grail apart.
(Benefit: Reduces cost of 'Nuking the Grail')

[X] Irisviel: Driving Lessons
She drives well… but if she's going to drive long-term in Japan, she's going have to spend a lot of time practicing to drive properly. You don't need to spend millions of Yen on parking fines and driving violations!
(Cost: 1 Resource) (Benefit: Opens opportunities for her, stays at home more)

[X] Irisviel: Reality Marble?
Yuuno, working with demons, has started to research the basics of Reality Marbles, in an effort to understand what they actually are. Having Irisivel help him out in his research may broaden everyone's perspectives, and, if the need arises, stop him from actually working to create his own Reality Marble.
(Benefit: Information, Irisviel stays at home more)

[X] Irisviel: Mundane Job (Write-in job)
Working on a manga series might be nice, but variety is the spice of life. Another job might be more useful, right? (Write-in job choice)
(Benefit: Possible Mundane Work, +3 Resources or +1 Resource, Stay at home more)

[X] Irisviel: Mangaka
The genderswaps of ancient mythical heroes seemed surprisingly well received. Perhaps continuing the series would bring in a good amount of money for use for the family.
(Benefit: Mundane Work, +4 Resources, Stay at home more, +1 Drawing)

[X] Irisviel: JSFD Propaganda Manga
A few of the higher-ups of the JSDF want to commission Irisviel to continue Moonlit World: Thus the JSDF Fought There. They hope that such a manga would inspire readers to become recruits for the JSDF, and not for Iskander's army. After the effective takeover of two key cities by Iskander's army, the JSDF is getting rather desperate.
(Benefit: Mundane Work, +4 Resources, Stay at home more, Increase recruitment of JSDF, +1 Drawing)

[X] Irisviel: Iskander Propaganda Manga
After the turnout of enough people to radically change the balance of power in Japan, Iskander would like Irisviel to continue his story in print form. He hopes that he would be able to further increase recruitment into his growing army with the continuing manga.
(Benefit: Mundane Work, +4 Resources, Stay at home more, Massively increase recruitment of Iskander's army, +1 Drawing)

[X] Irisviel: Card Artist
The Moto family head has requested Irisviel's artwork for a large number of cards for his 'Duel Monsters' card game this year. The pay isn't especially good, compared to the manga she tends to sell, but there is the probability that a Yggdmillenia magus may make an illusion of it in the future...
(Benefit: Mundane Work, +3 Resources, +1 Drawing, Irisviel's artwork gets on trading cards)

[X] Irisviel: Hobby of the Einzbern (Write-In Hobby)
Now that Irisviel is away from the castle, she has some freedom in what activities to pursue. Perhaps there is one she is interested in? (Write-In Hobby choice)
(Cost: 1 Resource) (Benefit: Opens opportunities, stay at home more)

[o] Irisviel: Magecraft Training
...Illya is too busy, Shirou's stuck in the hospital, Hayate can't use it, and Miyu has devoted herself to finding a bounded field that the Suzimiya girl can't break through. Only Kuro would be able to really pay attention, and she isn't particularly interested.

[X] Irisviel: The Dotting Mother
There is something to be said in just spending time with the family Irisviel is in. Of course, this gives the perfect opportunity to take care of the children and connect with the neighbors.
(Benefit: Home Knowledge, connect with neighbors more easily, -1 Upkeep this year)

[X] Irisviel: Other Plans (Write-In)
Perhaps there is something else that can be done?

Maiya Hisau's Plans for the Year: (Choose 1)
[X] Maiya: English Translator (Legal)
If Irisviel makes another manga, Maiya could translate it again to increase profits overseas. If she doesn't, Maiya could instead serve as a translator for other mangas and be on hand if someone needs something translated.
(Benefit: Home Knowledge (IF Irisviel makes another Manga), +2-3 Resources)

[X] Maiya: A New Job (Write-In)
There are plenty of jobs out there, and while Maiya has little experience with a normal job, it might be a good idea for her to get one. There is the possibility that she'll be refused, though, since she is now a marked criminal… (Write-in job choice)
(Benefit: Possible Mundane Work, +3 Resources or +1 Resource, Home Knowledge if No Work)

[X] Maiya: Bodyguard
Hiroto Minaka, lacking the ability to get the Magus Killer to his side for the time being, has decided to offer a job to the Magus Killer's assistant. While he doesn't expect her to do as good of a job as you, hopefully, her mere presence and the knowledge that you trained her will deter most attackers, and have the few that are still determined enough to get at him will be able to be defeated by her. In particular, he wants Maiya to keep his ex-wife far enough away that he can sleep at night.
(Benefit: Work as a Bodyguard, +4 Resources)

[X] Maiya: Ruined Rep, Good Tool
Hiroto Minaka, growing increasingly concerned about the state of the world, has reluctantly put a hit on his ex-wife onto your family's desks. If she was just a normal woman, it wouldn't be worth notice, but as the Second Owner of Shin Tokyo, as well as having many secrets of MBI due to being a high-ranking ex-employee, and Minaka publicly throwing his support on the revealed Moonlit World side, he may have reason to be concerned. Kiritsugu has gained a reputation of being in the right place at the right time to do the right, honor-less thing, but Maiya has been marked as a criminal with few redeeming activities; fewer would bat an eye if it was discovered she killed someone.
(Cost: 1 Resources) (Success Rate: 48%) (Failure: Maiya Dead) (Rewards: Work as an Assassin, +6 Resources, Takami Sahashi dead)

[X] Maiya: A New Hobby (Write-In)
There might be a hobby that catches Maiya's eyes. Now that she's in a family that is trying to be normal, it might be a good idea to try it. (Write-In Hobby choice)
(Cost: 1 Resource) (Benefit: Opens opportunities, stay at home more)

[o] Maiya: Practical Magecraft
...Illya is too busy, Shirou's stuck in the hospital, Hayate can't use it, and Miyu has devoted herself to finding a bounded field that the Suzimiya girl can't break through. Only Kuro would be able to really pay attention, and she isn't particularly interested.

[X] Maiya: Home Life
Maiya has gone from one conflict to another. Perhaps it is time for her to take a long break and interact with the kids, and see if you can get some food from one of the other families.
(Benefit: Home Knowledge, connect with neighbors more easily, -1 Upkeep this year)

I like discussion as well, but if no one appears to be going to say anything, you might as well go ahead and vote. At least you'll keep the quest going. Though no one has really commented on a few potential eye-openers of the past couple of updates...

At any rate, posting will become even more uncertain in the coming month or two, so don't expect me to update at the rate I did in the first few days of the quest.

[X] Irisviel: JSFD Propaganda Manga
[X] Maiya: English Translator (Legal)

We need resources pretty badly, and the JSDF needs to not get completely taken over...
